While photographing wildlife at Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge, I had ask one of the local where he would suggest eating around here. To my surprise, he highly recommended a vegetarian restaurant called PURE CITY-淨都之鄉 ; which is located in the heart of Pine Bush, NY of all places. What a treat! We had asked another couple who were dining in at the restaurant what they would recommend - so we ordered what they suggested. Yum Yum Yum! Ítems that we ordered: - Wonton soup (v) - Miso Bean Curd Soup (v) - Barbeque Veggie Ribs (v) - Spicy Eggplant Casserole (v) - Mixed Diced Vegetable in Taro (v) - Mango Pudding (v) Everything was simply delicious. Yum! PURE CITY-淨都之鄉 100 Main St. Pine Bush, NY 12566

Great Chinese vegan food in Orange County. Super excited to check this out. Had the spicy and sour soup, pure city platter, and the chocolate "cheese"cake. All were great. High recommend.

    Charming vegan-Asian restaurant!

Just an outstanding meal !! Pure City came highly recommend, and it doesn't disappoint... Spinach rolls, General Tso soy, the hot and sour soup is the most original and amazing I've ever had anywhere in the world. Solid recommendation on vegan selections !! Charming atmosphere to boot.

Best vegan Asian food I've ever had! The staff was friendly and did a great job at explaining the different menu options. They have some unique tea options and the vegan cheesecake was amazing. I had the orange veggie nuggets and hmtheu were pretty darn close to tasting like chicken. Would definitely recommend coming here.

I found Karma Road on Yelp--a vegan cafe? Yes, please. It's a small cafe with a few tables inside as well as a few outside. When I arrived, the outdoor seating was full but there was a few tables available inside that were perfect for my needs (dining and working). It's an order at the counter set up. I knew I wanted a sandwich and was leaning toward an avocado sandwich they had on menu. The worker was excessively kind and welcoming. Upon hearing it was my first time there, they asked if I might like a recommendation. I mentioned I was thinking of getting a sandwich. They shared that they're favorite sandwich was the baked tofu. I asked if I could get it with avocado added, they enthusiastically recommended I do so! I did, and my goodness--that sandwich was outta this world. It was absolutely divine. It came with some cucumbers that were seasoned and seemed to have maybe a squeeze of citrus as well? I truly don't know what they had on them but what a simple yet absolutely astoundingly fresh and fabulous side. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or simply like good food--seriously, give this gem a shot. It is well worth the stop. Get to it!

But the more we looked into the menu, the more excited we became. I would say their specialty is burgers and sandwiches. Virtually every ingredient is made from scratch daily (except the sourdough bread, from a local farm), including impressive items like multiple types of burger patty and cheesy cashew sauce. We were so excited about their food that we went three days in a row! Day 1: The Fogwood smoky burger was outstanding. The BLT was also delicious; we loved the smoke salted tofu. For a lighter option, we got the sunshine curry quinoa chickpea bowl. It was healthy and nutritious, although I felt the flavor profile was a bit off; it was heavy on the curry powder and weirdly sweet. The side of mac and cheese was GREAT. We loved the sauce made from sweet potatoes, carrots, and cashews (I think it was oil-free). Not heavy or creamy, just flavorful and good! For dessert, we got the lavender almond cupcake which we LOVED. It was gluten-free, although you wouldn't guess it. It had a perfect fluffy texture and great nuanced flavor. We loved that it wasn't made with coconut oil (just olive oil). Truly special. The vast majority of their desserts (as well as their homemade cheeses) do contain coconut oil. Day 2: The patty melt sandwich was a big hit. Incredible flavor. The Levi Reuben served over greens (instead of on bread) was also delicious. We loved the fennel sage patty and the homemade sauerkraut. We got the kids' PB&J as a snack which was SO good with homemade peanut butter and homemade raspberry jam. Very impressive. Lastly, we couldn't resist getting the signature Snickers-inspired bar, which was so good it should be illegal. Day 3: We were excited to try their daily special, the teriyaki chili rice bowl, made with homemade ginger tofu patties. It was delicious, although it could have used some greens. We tried two more of their burgers to explore the menu further, the flirty burger and the teriyaki burger, and both were great. A devastating disappointment came when, even though we walked in within 10 minutes of their opening, they had already sold out of the special dessert advertised on their Instagram, the carrot spice cupcake with pecan glaze, the only dessert they had that was coconut-free. It seems like they inexplicably only make 4-6 cupcakes per day and then don't make more even if they sell out?! (Who does that??) Overall, we loved the food and are so glad they exist. Major props for making so many things from scratch. We really appreciated how nothing was fried or greasy, really hard to find these days. They also deserve special mention for having top-notch service. All the employees were so kind and accommodating, and every dish came out quickly and made to perfection. The vibe of the restaurant is really peaceful and would be an equally good spot to have a quick meal or to linger all day.

Their menu is extensive and impressive; they have some all-star dishes on their permanent menu as well as a rotating daily menu with a legendary lineup of seasonal items. I really appreciate that they have dishes that are hard to come by such as lentil loaf and lasagna, and these never disappoint. The lentil loaf is unique; it is a little brick of lentils (not your traditional sliceable mush of breadcrumbs and minced veggies). It's very well seasoned and the tomato sauce on top is not overly sweet. The mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and (very) garlicky greens make it a great meal. The lasagna is one of my favorite dishes. It's pasta-free and just made from layers of sliced zucchini and other veggies sandwiched with their delicious crumbly housemade cashew cheese. The herby tomato sauce is super flavorful. The side salad and garlic bread that accompany it are great also; an ultra comforting meal. We enjoyed the macro meal, although honestly not as much as the other dishes. The pan-seared tofu was delicious, but the arame seaweed salad was super seaweedy and salty - a bit much for me. I'm also not sure why they didn't serve it in a bowl, which would have made the rice etc. easier to eat. It seemed to be missing something - perhaps avocado, or a hunk of sweet potato. A few items at the Garden Cafe are a little perplexing, compared to how perfect most of their food is. The tempeh is just ok. It's heavily marinated in a sweet and salty sauce and kind of strange. Also disappointing that it's just a big brand tempeh rather than one of the local tempeh brands available in the area. The housemade focaccia is also bizarre. The texture made me think it was gluten-free (but it's not). Is it whole wheat?? If that's the case, awesome, but they should mention that on the menu, so you aren't taken aback when you don't get pillowy airy bread and instead get something flat and gray that could be mistaken for a biscotti. We LOVE the Garden Cafe and wish more places like this existed serving organic classic meals. We wish they would open a location in New York City, but until then, we will be making the drive!

We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection. A friend said it looked like somewhere in Williamsburg and I couldn't agree more. Came here with friends to enjoy a night of catching up and enjoying delicious drinks and food. We started with some drinks - I got the snap dragon with tequila, mezcal, snap pea juice, vermouth and lime. The presentation was everything! From the local cheese to the crudite (edamame dip + seasonal vegetables). Their seasonal farm to table menu is everything. We were absolutely mind blown by the zucchini with pistachio pesto. From the way it was scored to the way it was cooked to the delicious sauce. A perfect 10! For my entree, I ordered the wild mushroom risotto (great vegetarian options here by the way). My ooooooooonly "complaint" is that it was for sure on the saltier side and waaaaaaaaaay too much garlic for my personal taste.
