I have done the 90 minute massage and facial combo with Candace twice now and WOW, it is amazing!!! I feel like it is the best thing I can do for myself. The atmosphere is so relaxing and Candace is fantastic!! The massage is incredible!! I have had many massages and this is hands down the best I have received! And I love the facial. I always leave with a glow and I love the skin products she uses. They are all natural and smell incredible. You can park in the pavilions parking garage and she will validate your parking. She's super friendly and professional, she took her time and focused on the areas that I told her needed extra care while also giving my entire body attention. Part of my "reason for visiting" was for general stress relief and Candace started off with some calming words and deep breathing. Awful experience. I get regular waxes every 4 weeks so I booked the "wax maintenance" option for $50 on the online booking system. The wax itself took less than 10 minutes and she even commented on how I barely had hair. In the end, she charged me $65 and when I questioned this she said "this is the new client fee". I told her it would've been nice to know this in advance and that the $50 option shouldn't be available if you're a "new client". She told me that's just the way it is. I felt this was misleading and unprofessional and left a very bad taste in my mouth. Plus, most other places I've been to offer a discount for new clients. $65 for less than 10 minutes feels like a ripoff, especially when she commented on my lack of hair. In addition to her unprofessionalism, the room is dirty and she has you lay on a plastic yoga mat which is smelly and sticky. She didn't even lay paper down. The whole experience felt dirty and gross and I will definitely not be going back. Do not recommend! read more

Horrible experience! Worst waxing experience ever! Claimed to not own a pair of scissors to trim hair, prior to waxing. Ripped hair off with no concern for my pain. Didn't make any effort to make this a pleasant experience at all! When I pressed down the area to try to lessen the pain, she blamed me for messing up the waxing. Claimed she didn't have any change and took more money then I had agreed to give her for a tip. Shouldn't have let her touch me and definitely didn't deserve a tip!! read more

I had a Groupon for an essential facial, 60 min Swedish massage and eyebrow wax. According to the menu, the essential facial is supposed to be 60 minutes as well. My entire experience lasted 90 minutes total when it should have been just over 2 hours. Candace was very sweet and the massage was good. I recommend forgoing the Groupon if you want your money's worth. read more

Candace was extremely warm and friendly from the moment I walked in the door. I was nervous about getting a brazilian wax for the first time in about six months -- I know from experience (on multiple occasions) that going so long without a wax makes it hurt so much more. Unfortunately, the rest of my experience was pretty unpleasant. Firstly, every time the wax was applied, it tugged very painfully instead of gliding smoothly. It was just barely warm. I saw in Candace's response to a previous poor review that she uses a special low-heat wax for sensitive skin; maybe that works for some people, but obviously not for all. Secondly, when she tore the strips off, it was FAR more painful than any wax I have ever endured. I am not a crier, but it made me cry. She said it hurt because my hair was so long and thick. Like I said, I have gone a long time (six months to a year) without bikini waxes before, and it's never hurt half as much. No aesthetician has ever had any difficulty with this. I would like to note also that I was 5-7 days before my time of the month, and I'm aware that it can be more painful around then, but (also from experience) not like this AT ALL. I have BRUISING in that area, which has never happened before. I told her I wanted to stop. She was very understanding about it and indicated that she was fine with discontinuing the session, but we were halfway done, so we could continue if I felt up to it. I asked her if I could trim the area and then come back, but she said that it would then be too short. I decided to go ahead because I didn't want to leave half-waxed. We reached another area where the hair was thick and it again hurt unbelievably. For the record, that area is rarely painful for me, even when it's been a long time since my last wax. I told her I for sure wanted to stop at that point and that I would shave the rest. She tried to remove a bunch of wax that was still there, but she was unable to. She said that it needs to be massaged with oil in a hot shower and it will come out, and the massaging aspect was why she wasn't getting it out right then and there. So adding insult to literal injury, I had to leave with wax caked on my junk. I didn't mention any of my complaints at the time because I was overwhelmed and needed time to process, so I was just pleasant on my way out the door. I tried calling at 7pm to let her know, but I guess the business was closed. I can't seem to find hours anywhere. My final point is that all of the reasons she gave me for why the wax was so hellacious do NOT line up with my years and years of waxing experience. I'm not some newbie who didn't know what to expect. I have been like a JUNGLE down there and had it all ripped off without bruising or intolerable levels of pain, even on my period. I've never, ever cried. I don't know if it's technique, or the wax type, or the low heat, but it was truly horrendous. Regardless, one would expect a professional to identify that if their technique/materials aren't working, they should do something different. I wasn't some kind of abnormally hairy beast -- this should have been well within the range of her abilities, as it has been for every other aesthetician I have seen. Thanks to Yelp, I found Candace and Pure Elegance Spa. I travel a lot for a living, so finding time for myself is a golden opportunity. The reviews here were extremely positive and rightly so! Candace is a sweetheart! She is very knowledgeable about skin care and the recommendations for my aging, dry, airplane abused skin were perfect. Price was comparable to other spas I've been to. The business is located on a 3rd floor building, with the various salons in individual "stores". The concept is fantastic. A warm and comfortable lobby area with a very nice receptionist greet you with beverages. I highly recommend Candace and Pure Elegance Spa next time you are in downtown Denver. read more

I am 46 years old and at the time of life when somedays I wake up and I avoid mirrors, I know I look good for my age and I have plans to grow old gracefully but definitely fighting aging every step of the way. I met Candace two years or more a go but it wasn't until recently I had the chance to receive a facial from her. During the course of my treatment I was blown away by her add-ons treatment that she doesn't charge for and her knowledge of every fabulous anti-aging serum she put on my face. I really don't like it when I get a facial and they don't tell me what they are putting on my face! Candace detailed every bit of the experience for me. Then to top it all off she carries the Sanitas line of skincare products which, I say is the best you can get and use in a Colorado climate, it happens to be manufactured here too. I just moved to Denver and came to Asteria Salon for a Haircut/Blowdry and a Brazilian with Candace. The first issue is that the salon and spa are treated as two separate businesses, even though they are in the same building and work together. It's very confusing and uncoordinated. They had to run my card on two different systems, and left me waiting to go fetch someone from the back to do one transaction while Candace did the other...really ridiculous. They also ended up not charging me for one of my services in all of the confusion....if I had a better experience I'd go back and fix this next time, but I won't be going back. Candace is very nice, but after being waxed all over the country, that isn't really enough. Her massages and other services may be great, but I would not recommended for waxing. I have sensitive skin and prefer to use hard wax. It's really hard to find waxers who know how to work with hard wax correctly, but when they do I've found waxes last longer and it's so much better for your skin. Unfortunately this was not the case. Candace was slow and kind of awkward, and got a lot of excess wax on my legs/places it didn't need to be. She kept making excuses that the hard wax doesn't always get everything. I've never had a problem with that before (a lot of salons in Boston use nothing BUT hard wax and maybe a tweezer), but fine whatever, most people would go in afterwards and get the areas they missed. After getting home I realized she missed a ton of obvious areas, which I'll now have to wait a month to fix. Parking situation is great, but I'll need to find a new salon. read more
