I want to preface this with saying that the co-owner, Michael, is a lovely man...Too bad I cannot say the same about his partner (owner) and stylist, Allen. Allen's immaturity and unprofessional behavior left me feeling like I had an obligation to leave a review. I told Allen that I would be his challenge for the day, since my hair has been noticeably hacked by an awful haircut I had gotten at Blush Hair Studio in Wesley Chapel. Knowing this, you'd think that Allen, co-owner of Pure Hair, would do everything he could to instill confidence in me. NOT SO... He colored and highlighted my hair today. Once I had paid and after looking into my rearview car mirror, I noticed an abundance of gray hair that was not covered. I was on the phone with my friend and she told me to go back in, so I reluctantly did. I knew that if I didn't get this "fixed", I'd be paying another $105 very shortly to have it redone at another shop, or I'd be bald from plucking the grays out. Never did I imagine that Allen would exhibit such amateurish behavior! I showed him the grays all throughout my part and he said "I just don't see them!" Completely dumbfounded I asked him to step outside into the sunlight. He still refused to acknowledge this!! We went back in and 3 other hairdressers, as well as Michael, started pointing the grays out to Allen. Allen said, "I don't know what to do because her roots will be darker than the highlights if I go over them". I told him I'd rather have that scenario than wind up bald from plucking the uncovered grays out! So we went back to the color station and from this point on, I don't think we said 2 words. How uncomfortable would that make anyone feel?? He slapped color on my roots and took me over to the dryer. Did not say BOO to me from this point on!! I re-processed for 30 minutes and Stephanie (very pleasant girl) came to rinse me. She also was charged with blow drying me out. Not once did Allen come to check the results, but he rather went in the back room (probably sulking because his entire staff saw my concern) and he never even checked to see if I was satisfied with the end result!! WHO DOES THAT IN A CUSTOMER-SERVICE BASED INDUSTRY, NOT TO MENTION TO A NEW CLIENT????? I mentioned to Stephanie that it was unbelievable to me that Allen had not even come back to see my finished hair and she asked if she should get him! WTH?? As the owner and stylist, he had a responsibility to see that his client was satisfied, whether an existing or a new client!! BUYER BEWARE - If you aren't happy with Allen's work, he could care less...AWFUL... UPDATE - the owner, Allen, pathetically attacked my review on FB! Good business etiquette would have been to place an apologetic phone call after his ignorant behavior towards me yesterday! read more

Allen is professional,friendly, and a truly gifted stylist. Allen's staff reflects the same level of excellence that I have appreciated from him over the years. I moved to Seminole Heights and still make the trip out to Lutz because he is just that good! He has always done an impeccable job and gets it right every time! He is really quick,full highlights,cut, and style in under two hours without sacrificing quality work. Normally I do not write a review. But I feel this must be addressed. I came to pure hair to have my roots lightened with shadowing and the blonde redone on the ends. It has been a while since I've had it done and it was looking very brassy. I wanted to add purple peek a boos. When I left there the first time the purple was barely noticeable and the roots were not lightened only "richer." I made an appointment to come back and have the purple peek a boos done brighter and I wanted to have the roots lightened as I asked the first time. It is my natural color which I do not like. I also ended up with one small patch of blonde in the front. It looked similar to a white skunk strip on top of my dark hair so I wanted to have it match the roots and shadowing since it was the only blonde piece. When I went back for my second appointment I went to a young girl. I chose a different stylist bc the owner made me feel rushed the whole time I was there the first time and had a lot going on with other clients. When I came back the second time I explained to her what I wanted with the roots and to brighten the purple. She told me the colors I wanted for my roots she could not make happen. I had to chose a color number between xyz. I was disappointed but I chose one that was a light brownish with a hint of violet. She said it would not be be very purple just when the sun hits it you would notice. I mentioned **several** times I could not have the purple showing bc I am a nursing student in the hospital for clinicals and it is not appropriate for my school. I was really excited to see it bc she took her time and she consulted with the owner. When she sat me down after washing my hair we were both speechless. I said oh my gosh it's purple. There was so much purple I could not hide it in a pony tail, bun, nothing. Purple was everywhere. I couldn't even wear it down to cover the peek a boos bc everything that was showing, was purple. I was so mad I couldn't even say anything except " I told you that I couldn't have the purple showing and all you see is purple." She said and I quote in her exact words "yes it is a little more purple than I expected I should of added more brown" mind you, this was suppose to be a quick hair appointment bc I had to be at school that evening in St Pete. The gentleman at the front desk said it's okay we will fix it for you for free. Do you have time? Well no I did not have time but I also can't go to school looking like I belong with Jem and the holograms from Barbie. So again I sit back down to have my hair colored for the third time in less than 24 hours. I sat down with the owner and he said it's not a problem he will fix it. He added black to my hair **with out asking**, blond pieces and some how I still have the blonde strip in the front. I was so mad when I saw what he did. I wanted to shave my head. I ended up missing my class for school which was an exam review and going to J Joesph salon. She asked me why would someone do this to someone's hair. She asked me why would they do this when they didn't know what they were doing. She even found red underneath. I'm not sure if that's a mix from all the colors or bc some of the faded into the strands while washing. I ended up having to have pre-art put in my hair to lift the black out so it could be bleached without frying off since this is the fourth color in 24 hours. I had to have a special conditioner treatment put in afterwards since I had horse mane now. I ended up spending $300 for a color correction on top of what I paid the first time at pure hair on top of tipping them even when they screwed up. I am very disappointed in the service that I received from pure hair and very upset that the integrity of my hair is now compromised. I refrained from blow drying my hair, flat ironing and coloring off the crown of my head so my hair could come back to life from bleaching it. That was all taken bc of pure hair along with a lot of money. read more

This place was not good. My appointment started almost 30 mins behind schedule. When going to the shampoo bowel, stains everywhere, dried dye on the seats. The person doing my hair was talking to another stylist. They were discussing their divorces and the one doing my hair was so rough, my blowout was miserable. Better options in this area. read more

I wish I could say I had a great experience here but unfortunately my experience was the complete opposite. I hate to even have to write this review but I'm really upset at the entire situation and how it's been handled & feel the need to share what happened. I went in to have my hair lightened (wanting to get back to blonde with an ombré ) and got pink and purple hair with a terrible ombré! I just wish I would have looked at the back more before heading home. I went back to the salon later on and the owner told me he could fix it. He put more bleach in my hair & Now my hair is damaged and looks terrible (between the color and the horrible ombré). I asked for my money back and was told they don't give refunds, that they would like to fix it. I already gave them a chance to fix it once and it was horrible, at this point I don't want them anywhere near my hair. Horrible customer service, I'll never be back. read more

My appointment time was shared by 2 other people getting their hair done,too. I needed a double process, and said over and over again that I was very afraid that my hair would be over-processed. I was assured this would not happen, and that only new growth needed bleach. He bleached everything (the owner!), and fried it so bad that it broke off in clumps. HE THEN CHARGED ME TO CUT OFF SOME OF THE DEAD. Another salon had to cut all the rest off, since i couldnt run a comb through it without clumps of breakage. I came here for a simple cut, one that I have received several times over the last few years from other Salons across the country. Because I have curly hair,I always make sure I ask the stylist if they are familiar with cutting curly hair... She looked at me somewhat confused and said, "Of course!" I guess that the puzzled look should have been my first clue to turn around and walk away. I gave the stylist the benefit of the doubt... Bad mistake. As she was cutting the back of my hair I noticed she was using a razor. I have NEVER experienced someone using a razor on my hair in my 30+ years of getting my hair cut. I quickly asked the stylist why she was using the razor instead of scissors, in which she promptly reassured me that it was one of Paul Mitchel's hacks and it would give me a better look to my cut. I had no idea that I should have stopped her, she seemed to really know what she was taking about. Oh boy! I almost cried after I washed my hair the next day. It was coarse, the texture was terrible,choppy, my curls didn't lay correctly and my whole head was super frizzy. I hate my hair cut this way( this is the 3rd time I have asked for/had this cu and never had a problem before now). I have never received such a terrible cut. It has been a couple months and I am still waiting for the damage to my hair and curls to grow out. Unfortunately, after looking into this with several sources (both Internet and salon professionals) razor cutting is contraindicated for curly hair and the only way to fix it is to let it grow out. This is partly my fault for not knowing but I thought I could trust someone who is 1) supposed to be professional and 2) said they knew what they were doing. read more

I went to this salon for the first time a few weeks ago. It was ok, and for the $75 bill it could have been a better experience. I had never been there before and was not greeted by any of the three workers standing behind the counter when I came in (and one of them was the owner!) Actually other then the guy who did my highlights I wasn't spoken to by any of the other staff there, and it wasn't because they were too busy, I was the only customer in the salon at the time. The highlights were pretty good, however I seemed to still have roots, they didn't get very close to the scalp. It was ok but probably will not go back. read more

My co-worker highly recommended this place and I must say her hair cut and crazy colors look fabulous. My experience was not the same. I got a appointment same day. The girl that did my hair was very nice. She asked how I wanted my hair and did I have a picture. She washed my hair and towel dried it. She did not leave a towel around my neck and I could feel some water dripping down my back. She started cutting my hair and just seemed not to have confidence in what she did. She kept asking me do you like it this way or??? I'm usually not very picky however I had to guide her thru doing my hair. I asked her to cut so my ears showed. I had her take more off the top of the back. Then I didn't know she was done. She put no product in my hair. aka hair spray, gel etc. She asked if I wanted my bangs flat ironed..I said yes. Then she asked did I want it spiked...I said yes and she got some paste to put thru my hair...then she was done again..I asked how about some hairspray. Each time she had to go to another station to get the item. In the end my short haircut does look nice but I have never ever had to walk a stylist thru a haircut like that. I will go back due to the color bar they have there but I will try a different stylist. PS all salons try to sell you their products...this girl never mentioned anything.
