A decent choice for smoothies and acai bowls that's open later than most smoothie shops near Cowles Mtn. I wanted a refreshing treat after the hike, and Pure Press is right down the street. You can definitely just cross and walk over to the shack, but the parking lot holds plenty of spots as well. Now the acai bowl... Not really a fan of, I don't know why, but the actual acai tasted warm? The fruits were all sweet which helped, but the acai base does need some work. I got the Green Glow smoothie. It was just alright, very watery, and not my favorite combination of greens I've had in a smoothie. I think the coconut water had largely to do with it as my friend's Paradise Smoothie is also made with coconut water. The acai bowl is okayish. The portion is great, the fruit is pretty good, but the acai is completely frozen and a bit flavorless. It was actually tough to eat being frozen. Honestly food is somewhat forgettable but the location is extremely convenient for those hiking cowles mountain. I been going here for awhile whenever I'm in the la mesa area. It's across from cowles mountain. It's a small stand, parking lot is chaotic. You will miss it if you don't pay attention. Sign up for the birthday reward. You get $2 off for birthday and half birthday. My favorite is the chunky monkey and heart beet juice. Was little bummed out totally understand they are a small business and slightly raised the price, but juice had more foam than usual. Not sure if they weren't paying attention or extra busy with orders and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt it was an off day. Stopped by Pure Press after hiking through Mission Trails, the location is even more convenient to those hiking Cowles, and it was very easy to find and grab a parking spot. It's a walk up, small building. Decorated well and menus were easy to read. We got the Coco Colada and the Paradise. Both smoothies were DELICIOUS. I rated 4 stars because for the price, I think the smoothies should be larger. They are about the size of a medium at Jamba Juice and much more expensive. Flavors were amazing but I think the size should reflect the price tag a little more. With that said we will probably be back the next time we're hiking in the area. read more

My family and I love Pure Press. They had a location in North Park that we used to frequent often but, it was unfortunately closed and replaced with something that did not hit the mark. We travel 20 minutes east just to get their smoothies and juices at this location and it is truly worth it every single time! This is only a pick up stand so there's nowhere to sit but, cowles is right across incase you want to enjoy it on a nice walk with a view. They are always extremely quick no matter how long the line gets and it never affects the quality. They have two standard sizes a small is 16oz and their large is 24oz. It doesn't note the different sizes on the menu but it's good to know incase you're like me and can't finish a 24oz smoothie with protein. The difference in price is $1 less for the small. I always recommend the chunky monkey smoothie since it is my go to but, this time I got a recovery smoothie with vegan protein and as always it hit the mark for best smoothie in SD. If I could compare it to anything, I would say it's similar to a horchata flavor. SO GOOD! Highly recommend trying it out if you haven't already. read more

It sucks to have to write this review. I've been coming to Pure Press since 2020, but I don't think I'll be back. Over the years, I've watched their açaí bowls go from $8 to $13, and while the price keeps going up, the portions keep getting smaller. The bowl I ordered was really disappointing. Barely any açaí (and what was there was watery) sitting in a giant bowl. They try to make it look full with GIANT fruit pieces and granola. I don't know where they find blackberries on steroids, but it feels like a trick. On top of that, it took 10 minutes to get our bowl even though there was no line. While making it, the guy pulled out his phone with his gloves on, used it, and then went right back to handling the fruit. That was honestly the last straw. I want to give this one star, but my husband liked the smoothie (second time he got this) and the guys working there were really nice. My one star is strictly for the açaí bowl. Ive gotten it before and loved it but I wouldn't get it ever again. It definitely wasn't freshly blended this time. There were no customers around so I don't see why it wasn't made on the spot. There was a ring of frozen açaí stuck inside the bowl like it was premade... there was hardly any açaí in it. A TON of toppings I couldn't even find the açaí. Unfortunately the toppings were terrible. The strawberries tasted chemical-like..I didn't get mangoes even though the menu lists it, but got blackberries instead. The granola tasted off. This is such a disappointing review to leave. We used to love PP and their fresh made to order smoothies and açaí bowls. We have been going since they opened and have always gotten our smoothies and bowls without banana and didn't mind the wait, however today we ordered an açaí bowl and were told all their bowls are now premixed with all ingredients and there was no choice to make anything without allergens or preferences anymore. My husband still ordered a bowl for $13, we opened it at home to find one solid chunk of premade frozen açaí with some berries and granola thrown on top. We couldn't even eat the bowl for a solid 15 minutes because it was just a block of ice. No more soft made fresh smoothies or acai bowls here, just pure laziness and an unsuccessful attempt at efficiency.
