A decent choice for smoothies and acai bowls that's open later than most smoothie shops near Cowles Mtn. I wanted a refreshing treat after the hike, and Pure Press is right down the street. You can definitely just cross and walk over to the shack, but the parking lot holds plenty of spots as well. Now the acai bowl... Not really a fan of, I don't know why, but the actual acai tasted warm? The fruits were all sweet which helped, but the acai base does need some work. I got the Green Glow smoothie. It was just alright, very watery, and not my favorite combination of greens I've had in a smoothie. I think the coconut water had largely to do with it as my friend's Paradise Smoothie is also made with coconut water. It is a pretty convenient spot for something healthy in the area that's why I chose it, but I'll consider another place for smoothies in the future.
The acai bowl is okayish. The portion is great, the fruit is pretty good, but the acai is completely frozen and a bit flavorless. It was actually tough to eat being frozen. Honestly food is somewhat forgettable but the location is extremely convenient for those hiking cowles mountain. It is definitely not a destination food stop, but if you need a smoothie or something after hiking it's probably the best in the immediate area.
Stopped by for a smoothie after hiking nearby at Cowles Mountain. I ordered the PB Acai smoothie and it was delicious. It was a perfect balance of acai and peanut butter. The smoothie was a generous size, and I was definitely full by the time I finished it. Service was friendly and quick, with little wait time. There's no seating, so plan to take it to go or stand under one of the umbrellas outside.
I been going here for awhile whenever I'm in the la mesa area. It's across from cowles mountain. It's a small stand, parking lot is chaotic. You will miss it if you don't pay attention. Sign up for the birthday reward. You get $2 off for birthday and half birthday. My favorite is the chunky monkey and heart beet juice. Was little bummed out totally understand they are a small business and slightly raised the price, but juice had more foam than usual. Not sure if they weren't paying attention or extra busy with orders and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt it was an off day. I'll continue supporting this place but just wanted to call that out. Staff is quick, there is one person on register and maybe 2 other people preparing everything else.

Stopped by Pure Press after hiking through Mission Trails, the location is even more convenient to those hiking Cowles, and it was very easy to find and grab a parking spot. It's a walk up, small building. Decorated well and menus were easy to read. We got the Coco Colada and the Paradise. Both smoothies were DELICIOUS. I rated 4 stars because for the price, I think the smoothies should be larger. They are about the size of a medium at Jamba Juice and much more expensive. Flavors were amazing but I think the size should reflect the price tag a little more. With that said we will probably be back the next time we're hiking in the area.
My family and I love Pure Press. They had a location in North Park that we used to frequent often but, it was unfortunately closed and replaced with something that did not hit the mark. We travel 20 minutes east just to get their smoothies and juices at this location and it is truly worth it every single time! This is only a pick up stand so there's nowhere to sit but, cowles is right across incase you want to enjoy it on a nice walk with a view. They are always extremely quick no matter how long the line gets and it never affects the quality. They have two standard sizes a small is 16oz and their large is 24oz. It doesn't note the different sizes on the menu but it's good to know incase you're like me and can't finish a 24oz smoothie with protein. The difference in price is $1 less for the small. I always recommend the chunky monkey smoothie since it is my go to but, this time I got a recovery smoothie with vegan protein and as always it hit the mark for best smoothie in SD. If I could compare it to anything, I would say it's similar to a horchata flavor. SO GOOD! Highly recommend trying it out if you haven't already.

Depth of menu, location and quality. This place is nestled in a small square with a taco shop. What I loved is the depth in the juice and smoothie options. The drinks are made from scratch. I ordered the chunky monkey protein shake that contained-peanut butter, cacao nibs, dates, chocolate peanut butter, whey protein blended with almond milk. I was impressed with the quality, taste and size definitely filled me up. The price points are reasonable for the quality and quantity in the drinks made here. I will return to this small but mighty little shop
Decided to visit Pure Press for a healthy pick me up. They have juice and smoothie options along with food choices like the açai bowls. I ended up going with the sweet beet smoothie. Super easy to order and it did not take long for me to get my smoothie. If you like beets/dates you will throughly enjoy this drink. Majority of the drinks at priced at $12. Will definitely come back again.
I want to give this one star, but my husband liked the smoothie (second time he got this) and the guys working there were really nice. My one star is strictly for the açaí bowl. Ive gotten it before and loved it but I wouldn't get it ever again. It definitely wasn't freshly blended this time. There were no customers around so I don't see why it wasn't made on the spot. There was a ring of frozen açaí stuck inside the bowl like it was premade... there was hardly any açaí in it. A TON of toppings I couldn't even find the açaí. Unfortunately the toppings were terrible. The strawberries tasted chemical-like..I didn't get mangoes even though the menu lists it, but got blackberries instead. The granola tasted off. Only good thing about this was the tons of peanut butter and banana. Disappointed because it's not cheap.
Ordered the PB Açaí Smoothie with extra peanut butter. Their smoothies are definitely thick and adding peanut butter didn't help that but the smoothie was still delicious. They have 1 size but well worth it for $13 There is a railing that people can lean against but you're definitely not going to sit and hang out here. It's an order and takeaway type of stand. Very quick service. They had 3-4 people working so even if they were busy, they would have been fine. read more
Across the street from Cowles mountain, on the corner. Friendly service and menu with variety of drink and smoothie options. Went in for the Acai smoothie. Most drinks are made with coconut water as liquid , opted to switch for orange (allergies and what not). Smoothie a bit on the thicker side, but good flavor. Price range similar to most smoothie shops. Fast turnaround. More of a pay and go, not much spade to sit and lounge around. But if you're in the mood to pick up a smoothie and around the area worth trying out. read more

Great local spot! If you know you know!! Pop in at this cute drive up location to refresh after your hike at Cowles! I love the juice combinations, my favorite is the re-pear! Also can't live without the wellness shots as a combo to boost immunity!! read more

Just the pick me up I was looking for after hiking cowles mountain. The açaí bowl is HUGE and they put plenty of granola and fruit on top! I will say the add ons are pretty pricey, each being two dollars. So if you were to add peanut butter & protein powder, your bowl would come out close to $20 bucks. I added the protein powder into my bowl and it made the açaí too thick. Next time I'll order the açaí bowl as it comes because it's great as is! read more

Great spot for smoothies after a hike! Nowhere to sit but the service is pretty quick so it's a good grab and go kind of place. I do not recommend the abc bowl for 1 person though unless you're a bodybuilder, they should call it death by peanut butter because they put half a jar in it and like 2 bananas lol read more

This is such a disappointing review to leave. We used to love PP and their fresh made to order smoothies and açaí bowls. We have been going since they opened and have always gotten our smoothies and bowls without banana and didn't mind the wait, however today we ordered an açaí bowl and were told all their bowls are now premixed with all ingredients and there was no choice to make anything without allergens or preferences anymore. My husband still ordered a bowl for $13, we opened it at home to find one solid chunk of premade frozen açaí with some berries and granola thrown on top. We couldn't even eat the bowl for a solid 15 minutes because it was just a block of ice. No more soft made fresh smoothies or acai bowls here, just pure laziness and an unsuccessful attempt at efficiency. We are disappointed in the quality and accessibility of the bowls and smoothies here now. Such a shame! read more

Cute place close to home and always busy with a line of people who either live close by or are in the area hiking Cowles or Mission Trails. Their portions are gigantic and can be shared with two people unless you've worked up a large appetite post hike. The hubby and I each got an açaí bowl and I ended up sticking mine in the freezer and eating on it a few days later. The açaí bowl is big, topped with fresh strawberries, bananas, mangoes, coconut, honey and granola. I'd go easier on the granola next time but the mango was money and freshly ripened and so sweet and soft. My husband also ordered a carrot apple juice which was 20oz and way too much when paired with an açaí bowl. The flavors were there though and it was fresh, cold and flavorful. Stop in by before or after a hike or bring it home to munch on while working remotely like I did. read more
