Unfortunately, over the past couple of years my experience has changed significantly, and after my most recent visit I have decided to seek care elsewhere. About a year and a half ago, I was told I needed a dental implant and received a quote from Dr. Castro's office that was extremely high. After getting a second opinion, I had the same implant completed by another dentist for $3,000 less. During that visit, the dentist also identified an infection in my upper right tooth. Six months later, during a routine cleaning with Dr. Castro, I asked him to check that area and was told everything looked fine. However, at my most recent visit two weeks ago, I was advised to get veneers on my four front teeth and whiten the rest of my teeth. I was also told the office would bill my insurance for crowns instead of veneers so that part of the cost would be covered, which raised serious concerns. Because of these red flags, I returned to the other dentist for another evaluation. I was told I do not need veneers and that whitening would be a more appropriate option. Additionally, the infection in my upper right tooth is still present and will likely require a root canal. Since it may have gone untreated for over a year, there is now a risk the tooth could need to be removed. In addition, the atmosphere in the office has changed noticeably. While the staff is friendly, the frequent loud chatter and laughter create an unprofessional environment that was not present years ago. It is disappointing to see such a decline after so many years as a loyal patient. Between the pricing differences, questionable treatment recommendations, and concerns about quality of care, I no longer feel comfortable continuing treatment at this practice.

One thing that has always bothered me was there seemed to be a lack of professionalism when you call to schedule an appointment or take your child in to be seen at most doctor's offices. I can honestly say that I have been extremely impressed by the Professionalism of both Dr K and his staff. Everyone is always friendly and they go above and beyond what's expected of them. Karina is always willing to go the extra mile and Cathy is just as sweet as can be. All of the staff is courteous and wait times are always minimal. The office and patient rooms are always clean and well maintained and most visits are quick as the staff is very efficient and always on task. My boys love Dr K. We arrived with a referral and updated X-rays that had been completed shortly before our visit, yet there was confusion regarding the treatment plan and my son was taken for additional X-rays. This immediately raised concerns about communication and coordination. From the moment we walked in, the environment felt unwelcoming. One staff member repeatedly stared at us in a way that felt judgmental, and at multiple points, staff were whispering to each other while looking in our direction. My son, who was already in pain, became uncomfortable enough to ask if we should leave. Also, we witnessed inappropriate interactions between employees, while we were filling out paperwork. A male employee came out and began rubbing the shoulders of his female colleagues and patting their backs, as he walked by expressing going to grab pizza for the office. As for the $412 fee, it was not clearly explained, despite us having insurance and providing all necessary information. For context, we are a military family used to dealing with DOD and VA facilities, where payment processing is different. I explained that this was an emergency and that I needed a moment to figure out the financial portion. Instead of working with us, I was told, "you should always prepare to have to pay for things when you go places," which was both unprofessional and lacking empathy. While I stepped away briefly to figure out next steps, my son was brought back into the lobby and told that I needed to speak with him, which was not accurate. When we attempted to clarify the situation, the staff member closed the door without explanation. When I asked what was going on, I was again asked how I would be paying. We ultimately left without treatment, with my son still in pain and feeling embarrassed and confused. To make matters worse, we were not given any documentation or visit summary, and I had to request our referral back before leaving. No patient--especially one in pain--should leave a healthcare office feeling judged, confused, and untreated during an emergency. I went for a referral appt and evaluation and the office staff along with the medical team was very kind and patient. When I told Dr. C that I have major anxiety when it comes to dental work, he assured me that I felt nothing and would be relaxed. He did xrays and a ct scan to ensure what my dentist referred me for was what I needed. After the schedule procedure he called me from his personal cell that night to check on me, even medical doctors don't do that. If I or anyone in my family are ever in need of an Endodontist I would definetly return and recommend him.

While I was in the chair, I even brought up my previous dentist by name, and all I was told was, "He's not here." There was still no explanation that he was no longer part of the practice. I didn't find out the truth until after my appointment, when I was checking out and asked if he would be available for my next visit. The front desk finally told me, "He is no longer at the practice." At that point, I was extremely frustrated and disappointed that this wasn't communicated upfront. The bedside manner was also very poor from both the doctor and the hygienist. They were rough, cold, and showed no warmth or compassion. When I expressed pain during an injection, instead of showing concern, I felt criticized for reacting. No patient should be made to feel that way. Overall, the experience felt unprofessional and misleading, and the lack of communication was unacceptable. Patients deserve to be informed when ownership and providers change--especially before treatment. I left feeling upset, frustrated, and completely let down. Despite what the name might imply, the office here is in the UCF/Waterford area, not Altamonte Springs. So far, each of my experiences with Dr. Sturn and now his staff in the office has been easy and frustration free. In and out without feeling rushed or not heard. No crazy waits. It's amazing how hard that can be to find these days, so I am hopeful it will continue this way.
