Pros: you do save me money, your customer reps are sincere in their mission to help. Cons: (Old news) when tried to move 2 phones from AT&T last year it took two days to get a Sim Card debacle squared away with the end result being I still have a Phone on AT&T due to how Pure Talk sent the SIM Card lose form my wife's, I ate the cost of the sim card and it took many hours of phone time, over 2 days to correct. Fast forward to today, I wanted to add a New Line and buy a Flip Phone for an elderly family member. Spent 45 min on line trying to add a $20 per month line and buy the $50 advertised Flip Phone. After contacting the Customer Rep, via phone, she also failed after the 1st 12 minutes to get the Pure Talk systems to take the order. I contacted Puretalk due to an inability to use my cell phone to make calls. I contacted tech support two times, and they were unable to solve my problem. Finally told me to contact Samsung. They said the phone that I had purchased from Puretalk was still under warranty with Samsung. Samsung told me I had no warranty. I spent most of my afternoon on this problem, and as a last resort, I contacted At&t, who informed me there was an outage in my area. I switched from Verizon to Puretalk in an attempt to save money. And it's been a terrible experience. I switched in Nov and I switched back to Verizon in April. Today was the final straw for me with this company as I am moving my business and wife's line from this company. First, I suspect that Puretalk is conning me on data use. I have the same data plan I have before, yet on their network, I blow through my data before the month is up, every month. When I moved my personal phone back to Verizon on the same 4gb plan, suddenly that didn't happen.... So what gives? Their customer service is some of the worst in the industry and I believe they purposefully make it difficult to port out and away from their service. Their customer support is fully remote. So you are always getting some random person anywhere at any time. And most seem unconcerned. Puretalk is currently refusing to release my wifes number to Verizon, which I've been back and forth with multiple times. About 9 phone calls. When I ported my number out, it took 3 weeks, and I had to call Puretalk and the rep told me they only release numbers every 90 days unless you call to expedite the port request. This company was beyond horrible! My phone service would routinely go down for days at a time. To reach customer service was almost impossible. The wait time was over 3 hours during peak AND off-peak times. For the most part, when they could be reached, I would receive conflicting information from their customer service people. I finally had to go to MetroPCS to get a new phone number after 3 days with no phone service and no way to reach PureTalk. The email sent me showed everything going to TX and the FedEx tracking number did not work. After several days on the phone with them about my order, and being told repeatedly that the tracking info in the email was wrong, everything was sent to TX. No clear indication of what sim card went to which line. After spending hours to get a supervisor to call me back, they were to re-send three sim cards to CA. I was going to switch my family over to this provider. I ordered new phones and was charged almost $1200 on my credit card. I called back the next day and explained that we were not leaving our current provider. They cancelled everything. The phones were never shipped out. How I wish I could rate this in a sub number of stars. 9+ months ago I started having issues with the service. Nothing has been done about the dropped calls and sudden loss of signal. On Monday 21FEB22 we have lost our ability to receive or make phone calls. They said that it's a problem on their end (they switched something). It has been four days thus far and all I get is the "We're sorry for the inconvenience" line. They have made promises and lied to me. They say that they'll make it right. I switched to Pure Talk a week ago and for the first several days everything was good. I called in to customer service to get my 22-year number ported over and was told I could not do that until the end of the month and basically the end of the contract. Then I would restart a new contract with my old number. So I had to pay my current provider 3 months of service just to keep my old 22-year number. I left a review about this subject because I've always been able to port a number at any time. Ever since that negative review my service has gone down the toilet. It is so slow it takes a couple of minutes to load pages. This all happened after my negative review. Now I think I'll just stay with my old company because I never had issues with speed. About 6 months ago, I received a new credit card as my previous card was lost. I updated it and my Puretalk auto-payment has been successful every month, until now. On Dec 1, I received a text from Puretalk which I thought was SMISH. I also received an email, which I didn't find until that evening. The message was that my auto-payment had not processed and to call customer service, and that if my account was not paid by EOD on Dec 2 the phones on my account would be turned off. I attempted to call customer service, but as is usual with Puretalk I was dumped into a wait queue. While doing that I logged into my account and discovered my old credit card number was there. I updated the number and saved it. I went back out to see if my bill had posted, but it did not. Assuming I had missed the auto-pay window and not wanting to go back and keep checking to see if it would pick up or wait for the phones to be shut off, I used the Pay Online option. While verifying that the payment had gone through, I noticed that I was charged an additional $5. I pulled up the online invoice and there was no accounting for why I was charged $5 more than the invoice amount. I called customer service back. I was on the phone for 47 minutes to have a 5 minute conversation with a "customer service" rep who informed me that when you pay online there is an additional $5 charge, because it's not an auto-payment. I told her my account is auto-pay and I was simply addressing an issue with this month's auto-pay. She told me this did not matter. I asked the rep why they don't tell you this on the website before charging an additional $5. She then informed me that I had been verbally told this when I signed up for Puretalk. I asked her how anyone would remember something like this? She told me this is how it is. I asked to speak to a supervisor. She told me it would be 24-48 hours for one to call me back. As she didn't confirm my name, best number to call back on, or a good time to call, this seemed fishy. It is now Dec 7 and no supervisor ever called back! I am livid over the absurdity of this charge. I told the rep this is BS and she threatened to disconnect me. My account is set up to be an auto-pay account. Addressing an issue with the credit card information to make sure the bill is paid on time and then charging me $5 for paying the bill with an online payment option is absurd, especially when there is no indication before you post the payment that you will be billed extra. My preference is a NEGATIVE FIVE STAR rating, but I have to provide one star at least to write this review. About a year or more ago I got tired of the corporate "cram in down your throat" of the cell phone company I was dealing with and sent them my phone and closed my account. Recently it became necessary to have a cell phone for one purpose only. I once had a Motorola Startac flip phone and I liked that phone. It was just a telephone, albeit a telephone you "wore" on your person. I looked for the simplest, military grade, water proof, flip phone, paired with an economy service provider to suit my simple needs. I am not kind to phones one carries on their person, so I needed the most robust phone I could find. In a magazine I found there were three or four advertisements for cell phone companies I had never heard of and one of them seemed, based on the advertisement, to fit my needs. Puretalk. I purchased three phones trying to find one that would fit my personal requirements and function with the service provider. Not being a cell phone tech minded person, I did not know what to look for and I had to rely on the "representatives" of pure talk. By phone number three and pure talk "representative" number four or five who finally provided me with the four criteria I needed to have in a phone to function with the pure talk system. I finally found a compatible, military grade, robust flip phone, Kyocera E4830, suitable for me and the least costly pure talk subscription of $10.00 a month. Phones do not come with an operators manual so I was calling pure talk nearly every day trying to get my phone activated and set up the phone answering or messaging programs so I could use the phone, and that was a nightmare. Then there was the fifty dollar charge that a SCAM or FRAUDULENT company tried to charge to my bank account. Fortunately my banks FRAUD division refused the charge and alerted me. When I tried to call the unidentified company that had included a phone number in the charge data, I spoke to someone from the unidentified company and canceled the charge. Although the person I talked with denied any association with pure talk, she was either lying or was not told anything about the details of the charges on purpose. In a process of elimination, it was determined that fifty dollar charge was initiated by the pure talk company. I requested to have a pure talk supervisor call me in an effort to come to a solution to this apparent FRAUDULENT situation. I received a call identified by my phone as the Telrite Corp on 25 APR 2022 originating from 1-770-818-3738. The woman who called said she was representing the pure talk company. She spoke so fast she was slurring her words together and was often unintelligible. I asked her to slow down so I could understand what she was saying. She spoke as if English was her primary language with a very slight southern accent. As if that was not difficult enough to be able to communicate with her, her phone line had variable degrees of static which varied in intensity rendering her slurred uttering to nothing but static. I was constantly asking her to repeat what she was saying, which fell on deaf ears. When I tried to explain what the issue was, she was talking over me with an answer which was usually the wrong answer because she was guessing what she thought I was going to say. I have never dealt with any service representative with as much anger, and discourtesy as this woman. I never was able to complete any sentence because she talked over me. The answers she gave me were at best, incorrect and at worst, prevarications. When I called her on these statements she tried diversion tactics. All the while speaking so fast in an effort to confuse me. The "solution" she suggested, only one, none other were offered, was that I was to conform to the needs of the corporation! There is only one way to do this, OUR WAY! A true hive mind at work. When I finally suggested a solution that was a huge compromise for me, nonetheless a workable solution for me, I had to convince her to allow my compromise as a solution SHE could agree to. Throughout this process, she was constantly jumping to conclusions as I began my sentences, and talking over me ignoring me all together which took a much longer time to finally explain to her what I suggested. She was clearly very angry, and wanted nothing more than to get rid of me. I needed the corporate address to send my check to but the address she gave me was wrong. As she did take the time to look up the address with her venomous anger about my unwillingness to allow what my bank considers a FRAUD risk as they attempted to remove fifty dollars from my account instead of the agreed upon $10.00, She gave me the wrong address on purpose so I would be charged additional late fees due to my check "getting lost in the mail," which is a phrase she used a lot. Got my new sim card on July 19,2024 my old phone number wouldn't port because safelink didn't process the transfer correctly but I spent 2 days trying to find out from PureTalk what the issue was. When i finally found out what the issue was and all the hoops to get it transferred I told them to give me a new number. Once I got the new number I could make texts but could not make or receive calls. A couple more days of unproductive emails then I finally got to tech support on July 23,2024 by using my roommate's phone. Waited 40 minutes on hold for tech support than 90 minutes with the tech support guy as he led me through troubleshooting which he was obviously reading from a manual. After all that he finally said that he would create a ticket for me and the back end office would contact me between 24-48 hours. I said my roommate would be gone and there would be no way to contact me as my phone was not in service. So I asked for a supervisor. I got a Courtney x2697 who gave me the run around and misinformation. One piece of that was when I asked who was above her she said she couldn't share that information. After some persistence I managed to get a name of Maya but Courtney would not give me any more contact information. I had to deal with another rep who said she saw notation on my account but there were no names or employee numbers associated with those nots. I said so someone can hack you and write a whole bunch of things and there is no way to verify if it was a true person or not. Turns out later I got someone who admitted they just don't tell you who made the notation not that there is no way to identify that person. Over the course of 5 hours I spoke to 6 different people and was on hold for more than half that time. The last person I spoke to was definitely trying to "manage me." He said with the abrupt FCC filings and the computer outages from last week the hundreds of thousands of customers are calling in. I said I highly doubted that had that many customers and he back peddled and said I can't put a number on it. Bottom line save yourself aggravation and stick to the main carriers. They said we were not eligible for the promo price on the new phones, since we were not new customers ( less than 24 hrs) I told them we were going back to our original carrier unless they could give us the promo on the phone cost. They said they could not, and immediately turned my phone off. They told me my phone would be active until the next business day, but immediately killed it. Generally, though, the service is just as good (remember, you're piggybacking on AT&T without paying for AT&T) or better than AT&T. If you were to pay the AT&T price, then complaints about customer service are valid, but paying 1/3 the price, the tech support service is going to be compromised. My family of 3 moved from Verizon because we are sick of it's politics. But moving to Pure Talk (PT) has its own sets of problems. We activated our phones, only to find mine couldn't make or receive voice calls (it is an Apple 6 plus: yes, I know, it's a dinosaur). Only after activating was I told my phone was not compatible and that I needed a new phone. So I go to the main website (I didn't log on) and found an Apple SE basic phone for a discounted price of $149. I then went to PT and said I would purchase this particular phone. They said the price was $399 because I already had an account. WHAT? Wait, I'm a new customer! PT made it impossible, without great hassle and much time, to get the discounted price on the new phone. I would have to "port out" back to Verizon for 30 days and come back to PT with a new and separate account, not to be included with my husband and daughter's account, and wind up paying more in the long run with one more bill to pay. I knew I didn't want to continue with Verizon, so I looked at Patriot Mobile. Their plans didn't work for me, and even if I switched our entire family to Patriot, the plans wouldn't have worked for my husband either (he needs unlimited data for his work). So I was stuck. I didn't want to put my family through the hassle of switching over to another carrier, either. I was on the phone, on hold intermittently, over 3 hours last night grappling with this company about how this was not right. I am a new customer (less than 24 hours last night) and I should have received the discounted price on that phone. They should have been up front with me from the start and told me my phone wasn't compatible with their service, and look at these phones we can sell you for a discount because you are a new customer. When I originally switched over their hotspot was included in my plan. a year later I went to use it and found out I had to pay an additional $10 for 2 additional gb of data. Not happy but I did it. This weekend I was doing an open house, Im a realtor. I ordered the additional hotspot and 2 hours into my open house my internet lost connection. I was so busy with the open house I didn't think twice about it. Today Im back at the open house and no internet again so I called Puretalk. The customer service rep said I used the 2gb up and would have to order again. She said she would try to credit me the 10 bucks I paid and I could order again but would have to get manager approval. Pure Talk is thee WORST most incompetent mobile provider I've experienced. I never got connected through Pure Talk because they had ZERO idea of what they were doing. They said, "Switching service would be easy". I have no cell phone service right now because of them. I've spent 6 hours today trying to get my damn iPhone connected to Pure Talk. Once your phone is shut down, it's impossible to get ahold of them. They don't have any online chat. You have to email them and they don't respond. And they close early. So, too bad so sad. You have no emergency phone and they don't care. They have no idea whether your phone will work with their SIM cards. They don't know the information that your current carrier needs to transfer your phone number and they assign you as the intermediary to figure it out. You get to work for Pure Talk for free. They don't tell you anything about devices being locked and whether they might need to be unlocked and how many days that might take to do. They just have you pay in advance and then have you jump through hoops of fire for hours only to be without a phone in a rural area and your customers can't get ahold of you. Tried to add a line and the Rep shut off BOTH phones, couldn't call 611 like most phone services, we went online to see if there was a chat service. NOPE! had to go get a new phone and service with U.S. Cellular to be able to call them! The hold time was hours. I hung up after 1.5 hours. When I finally did make contact, they would not refund me because they said it was over the 30 days. So they ripped us off about $60! I try to look at the big picture before I write a review on a company... I also happen to have a background in customer service, so I know the difference between good and bad service. As of late I've been telling you about some companies with poor customer service, product or both. Unfortunately I have to put out a negative word out about Pure TalkUSA. I ended services with this company 6 days after activation, and I feel like the guy on 'The heartbreak Kid' movie that quickly found out about a lot of negatives and shortcomings once in this new relationship. My phone arrived quickly, but that was about the only good thing I can write about, our honeymoon thereafter was a complete train wreck... even though I tried to do my homework on this company beforehand, and spent a fair amount of time with a representative setting up the plan and account. Sadly, almost nothing was done correctly. This came on the heels of the 3G Network discontinuance which seems to have been a coronary heart attack tor this service provider, but the problems I experienced only became worse with the almost nonexistent or useless customer service I received - not to mention the 10+ hours cumulatively spent on hold trying to fix the problems. What were the problems?1) I was sold a phone that was not compatible with their network. 2) our phone line programming was not properly updated... I had to use their website to troubleshoot and manually update them... that took 2 days. 3) our numbers were not ported-out at all... that was a non-starter from the get go... that took another 2 days. 4) our plan did not have the calling options we requested, so we couldn't call international when we needed to. I was left hanging after each dropped call or worthless email exchange with customer service. PureTalk never called when I asked them to... I always had to call or email them again, and again, and again (not exaggerating here!). Imagine how frustrated you'd be after several days of this. I also didn't like the fact that once I was able to finally reach their customer service (4 days after I discontinued service), I was initially being held to their strict return policy, even though my account had already been noted 8 days earlier for the issues I just mentioned by a Representative that was far more understanding and accommodating than the remote supervisor I was dealing with, but guess what... I was still able to meet their original return policy requirements. I called 5 days later to verify that PureTalk had received my phone and was told that 5 days later I would receive my refund (if everything was in order). I told them ok, because the phone was returned in perfect condition. 5 more days had lapsed, I reviewed my bank account and there is no refund posted. I called PureTalk again, and this time the rep who I spoke with verified that they had indeed received my phone, but that it was still pending inspection... she told me that I had been misinformed by the previous rep about the refund time line - it is up to 14 days... so they technically had another week to make this somewhat right. Wow PureTalk... way to heap disappointment upon disappointment... if those customer services calls are really recorded, they have some misinformation doozies. Ok, now fast forward 7 days... on the 14th day a refund was finally issued - PureTalk dragged this out all the way! After having to claw my money back from PureTalk, this ordeal is now over, and I am happy that I will never be held hostage by PureTalk's 'hold' jingle music ever again! Avoid, avoid, avoid! read more
