Please, please, please DO NOT use this company! Steve came out to our Royal Oak rental home on November 20th to address a backed up drain in the basement. He snaked the laundry tub and two floor drains for $375. He also claimed there was no venting so he added an air admittance valve on the laundry drain for $375. I asked why Nelson or Roto Rooter never mentioned the venting before (and we have used them several times over the course of 25 years) he said "because they are not plumbers and don't know what they're doing". RED FLAG. Total was $750. Two weeks later, the drain backed-up again. This time I called Nelson Brothers. They came out immediately and removed two very large tree roots in under 15 minutes from the stack with a 3" cutter. When I asked Steve what he found when he snaked, he said 'paper wipes' (paper wipes are never used in the house). When I told him what Nelson found, he countered and said he pulled out 'a ton of stuff roots wipes paper'. I then asked if he showed what he removed to the renter, and he said 'I bagged it up and thru it out like I always do. I probably snake 10 - 15 houses a week so it's hard to remember each one and details.' I then told him it would be right, fair and honest to refund us the $375 for ineffective snaking and he said 'I don't know how you could know that'. He also said could come back out and jack hammer the basement floor to re-pipe and that comes with a 5-year warranty!!! When hiring him, I only looked at the Google reviews, not Yelp. Please take all these 1-star Yelp reviews seriously and save yourself a lot of time, frustration and money. read more

expensive and tries to fix something that ain't broken. in my opinion. Asked for $350 for using snake to clear the clogged sink. then reduced to $250 saying I need to call him later to fix the pipe. He mentioned that it will happen again and again when I used it for over 10 years without issues. new garbage disposal motor installed only one year ago. Let's do the timeline. Thursday, 9pm - Hot Water Heater dies. 10:30pm Searching online for quotes to see how much it would cost to have it done rather than to do it ourselves. (Pay for immediate, or pay in our own time?) Submitted project request on HomeAdvisor. Within a few minutes I got a phone call from Steve. I explained the situation, asked about options, and he gave me explanations, costs, and time frames. My husband and I discussed, and we called back 30 minutes later (Steve said it was okay to call him!). 11pm We have an appointment scheduled for him to install the new heater around 1pm Friday. Friday, 11am Steve texts me to let me know he's running late. I appreciate that. It's not two minutes before he shows up and then he's letting me know. 2:15pm and he's here, dealing with our tiny utility basement, getting the new heater down, replacing, and making sure everything is correct. 3:45pm he was done and gone. In less that 24 hours we had a brand new hot water heater installed, the old, broken heater was gone (all part of the service), and all was well. Service was nice, polite, efficient. And honestly, you couldn't ask for a better response time from anyone. Since buying our house four years ago we have had three plumbers (Steve/Purity being the third). Started a job 2 weeks ago and finished 95% of the work. Called at least 10 times and also texted about 15 times to finish the job which I found on HomeAdvisor. The only way I got the job done is HomeAdvisor called him "I think they my have threatened to take him off there site if he didn't finish the job" that's my thought and wouldn't you know after complaining to HomeAdvisor all the sudden he called and wanted to come right over. The funny thing is he just emailed me and told me how bad of a person I was, but all I wanted was the job finished which I already paid in full. He left such a mess two weeks later I'm still cleaning up his mess. If I could give a zero I would, but just wanted to let everyone know buyer beware because you never know what you're going to get. If you're a gambler this is your guy! We hired Steve to come fix a pipe in the basement for 1/1/16 at 2pm. I received a text at 1:20pm asking if he could "come by tomorrow?" I didn't see that until the appointment time. Mind you we had also stayed home and skipped a New Years Day lunch that we had been invited to because of our appointment with Steve. Anyways, we said yes and he said he could be here at 10am on 1/2/16. It's now 11:45am and he never called and never showed. DO NOT HIRE!!! stay away from this company. We hired Steve Olson to repair our sump plump. After little inspection he told us that it needs to be replaced and he already got one to replace. This makes me wonder if he already had plan to replace without even seeing the current condition of our sump pump. It took him about 5-10 mins to do the job but the amount charged was ridiculously high ( more than $400). When asked about the charges, he was extremely disrespectful to the extent that we just wanted to pay him and shut our doors. No professionalism, worst customer service and ridiculous pricing!! Steve from Purity Environmental Plumbing came out in March 2013 to replace my sump pump for $400. He wrote on the invoice that the sump pump was under warranty for 5 years. September 2014, My sump was out again and water was accumulating in my basement. I called Steve left messages, no return phone call. I finally had to call another plumbing company and paid $475 to have a new one installed. What a crook. read more

I own several rental properties in the area, I called Purity because I like to use local companies opposed to larger franchised companies. I received a call back from Steve and initially he sounded interested, so much so he called me at 1:19 a.m. (Sunday) to let me know he would be available at 9:00 a.m. (Sunday) that morning. I'll admit, calling a potential customer at 1:19 a.m. is a little odd, but I figured the guy was very excited to take the job. However, Steve failed to be reached Sunday morning but did call me back around 6 P.M. (Sunday) confirming he can make an appointment on Monday at 9:00 a.m. Monday rolled around and he was a no show, no call. I called and texted him between 9:15 and 10:30, never heard anything back. However, Steve did call me back on Monday around 4 PM letting me know his phone was broke. I guess things happen, but after reading several reviews online it sort of sounds like these things happen more often than not. I'm all for hiring independent local contractors, but Purity will not me on my list of plumbers to call on. read more

I used Purity Environmental one time several years ago.....and STILL haven't forgotten how HORRIBLE he was and what a total RIPOFF he was. I'll NEVER forget. I paid a BOATLOAD of money to have him install a backflow preventer valve in my basement, as I had been flooded multiple times from the city's sewer system backing up through my pipes. He jackhammered my basement floor - made a complete mess of it - to install this. Then, he asked ME to keep and somehow discard of the concrete. I STILL have it to this day in my garage in a bin on wheels because I have no way of discarding of it. The garbage collection won't take it. I'm an older female living alone and I have not enough strength to lift it, nor a vehicle in which to transport it, even IF I knew where to take it. Furthermore, about a week or so after he installed the valve, my basement flooded again. I called him back and he told me he would come back out, which he did. But he didn't do anything other than look at it and say it was done correctly. Obviously, it wasn't, as my basement continues to flood multiple times per year still today. THEN, he had the NERVE to ask me for gas money for having to come back out. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up. I would absolutely not recommend him to anyone, ever, not even to my worst enemy. Save your money and find a REAL plumber. This guy is a joke and a con/scam artist! read more

Had Steve come out to replace a pressure tank. He was quick in coming out. He installed the tank and I thought all was well. After a week or so I noticed water on the floor and thought it was just sweating. After some time I realized it was more than that. If I could give purity environmental plumbing no stars I would. In August 2017 I was faced with a huge project home that my father left me after his passing. On that day that I hired Steve to replace a sub pump and put in a new liberty back up system because of 10 inches of water in the basement he totally took advantage of me. He knew I could not access the house because the mold smell he decided apparently that he didn't have to replace the sub pump. Because of his misrepresentation of completing the job the basement drain field was impaired and overworked by him not completing the sub pump work. I hired someone else to put in a new sub pump and fix his messy work and had to Fix the water coming into the basement from the drainfield. I have since filled court action and Steve did not show up. Now as the pictures show I am faced with the other project that was below any professional standard by Steve with Purity Envionmental Plumbing. The second job I hired him to do was to remove a bath tub enclosure and put in a shower pan for a standup shower I just learned he did not tie in the plumbing on the second floor TO ANY drain.. When I was cleaning the New shower stall I was running water and water came from the upstairs down to the main floor through The light fixtures. Steve is a crook and Comes across as much different. Steve Olson installed a hot water heater. The connections were loose and leaked gas for 8 months until I noticed. He warranties the installation for 12 months, I called him after 8 months. He committed to coming out and fixing it 3 times. I took off time from work twice waiting for him. He never called to cancel. He just never showed. I called him many times. I think the only times I could actually reach him were when he did not recognize my number. I eventually realized he was never coming. He was very personable. But shoddy work and unreliable. On Tuesday December 23 my hot water heater went out. I was out of town on the 24th but called a service that must have then forwarded my call to Purity. I received a call on Friday the 26th @ 4pm +/-, from Steve. He wanted to come out that night to fix my water heater, but I was out of town and would not be home until late 12am. Steve said that " I will be at your house at noon" Saturday December 27th. I waited until 1pm and called Steve, he did not return my call until 1:30, it was a text, that said " I got held up" will be at your house @ 4pm. I said that will be fine but earlier was better since I had company from out of town that I was planning on visiting with. 4pm came an went with NO STEVE. After 3 calls and 2 texts @ 6pm +/- I got a text from Steve saying that he had a family emergency and will not be able to make it. I usually never write review online but this is my worse experience with a company ever. I found them on craigslist, and the guy Steve who I contacted seemed decent over the phone. I am not a hot water heater expert, but it looked like he installed it correctly, and did the proper protocol. However, a year later I find out he did not pull a permit with the city after I had it inspected. Then I contacted him and he said he went to the city and pulled a permit. He lied to me and said he sent a check and paid for it. That was never the case, as I had to send the city $75 for a recert fee. However, I called him and told him about it, and he said he just mailed it after he told me he paid it a week or two ago, a real class act. The final straw was when he said he would come on black friday and fix it, this was about 3 times from him rescheduling with me and canceling on me. I knew he was not going to show and he never did. I don't know how this guy is still in business, but avoid this company at all costs. He did not even place a pan with the installation of hot water heater.
