Do not be put off by the outward appearance of this restaurant. Sure, it is run down and divey, but the inside is a wee improvement (they are really trying with their cloth tablecloths, ha!). It's a little dark, but we'll call it moody, and their booths are the circular style I adore. As soon as we were seated, our waitress brought out this cooked corn that looks like giant un-popped popcorn kernels along with two sauces. It was mildly crunchy, but mostly just salty and a vehicle for the two delish dips. One was a spicy cilantro base; the other was kind of like tangy mayonnaise? It's difficult to describe either, but this was a superb starter. I could have just had a meal of it alone! The menu is huge, and having only a little experience with Peruvian food, it was difficult to make a decision as it all sounded scrumptious. Expect to find many options of meat and seafood, plus all the carbs. I ordered the bistec a lo pobre, which features steak topped by an egg fried over easy, fries, salad, and rice (I subbed beans for the rice). The steak was cooked as requested, very juicy, and nicely spiced (borderline too salty). It was fantastic with the leftover spicy green sauce. The salad was simply iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber with a little drizzle of dressing, but it was a much-needed foil to the richness of the other components of the dish. The fries were horrid. Like, the absolute worst fries of my entire life: super soft, not at all seasoned, and even if they had been good they were plated next to the salad, so just soaked up all the water. The beans were bland, but excellent texture-wise. I also tried a bite of the fried chicken that is part of their alfredo dish. It was simple, but tasty. We ordered chichi morada, a pretty purple drink made with spices and corn. Sounds odd, but tastes delicious! They had some cookies and other desserts available, but I was too stuffed to have any. I'll definitely return, though, and make sure to partake. I found the Festival Criollo intriguing, which is listed on the menu as a meal to share, and would be a great way to try many different dishes. Prices are a bit high for the atmosphere, however the food is mostly so excellent that they can get away with it. Also, they serve cuy (guinea pig)!!! I have been driving pass this place so many times but haven't tried it until my friend told me to go there. Let me tell you the food here doesn't disappoint at all. But there are some kinks to this place that will make me think about coming back. They brought roasted corn with sauce for the table to start. Let's start with the food here. I ordered arroz con pollo and it was very delicious. You get to chose the part of the chicken, leg or breast. I got the leg and the meat was super tender. The flavor was deep in the chicken. The rice had a lot of flavor in it. My friend ordered poor mans steak and the portion is more for a starving man. The steak was flavorful and the meat always tender. It came with side of fries, rice and a salad. It was really delicious. My other friend ordered the seafood platter. It was very huge. It isn't a one person portion. But the seafood is super delicious and flavorful. The service here was very hard on both the waitress and us. That's because the waitress had limited English to use. The food deserves 4.5 stars but the less than pleasant attitude with from employees and late orders is my reason behind my 3 star review. The food is wonderful but Puro Peru has a reputation when it comes to long wait times for your order. My table decided to call ahead 1 hour before our arrival and placed our orders and when we arrived, our food was not ready. We asked for a status update regarding our order and we're informed they had not started on anything. We sat and waited for our food for half an hour which makes me question why they didn't start on our order an hour and a half ago when we called. By the time our food was ready we only took a few bites before having to leave. The food is really good and the ingredients are fresh which is why they will have continue to have my business but I won't be dining in anytime soon. Any future Togo orders will be placed well in advance to avoid any mishap but some would agree an hour and a half notice for food is a sufficient amount of time. read more

I am Peruvian and it is really hard to find food in the states that even resembles the true taste and I am happy to say that I have found the closest thing. When we arrived they seated us immediately with a smile. They gave us water and canchita (which is a Peruvian toasted corn) which was delicious! We ordered an Inca cola (typical soda), anticichos , papa a la huancaina, and lomo soltado. It all was delicious and all came in a timely manner. The service was great, very friendly. My calamri plate was good. Fried squid with some fires and red onions on the side. No complaints from my end. My friend tho... he got a COLD CHICKEN. The funny thing about this is, he calls the waiter and the waiter puts her finger in the chicken to make sure if it was cold. She assured us that it was cold and took it to the cook. My only complaints are that they are way over priced and the prices appear to be going up and they don't serve alcohol. We of course had to order the Inca Cola because as a child my best friend and her family was from Peru so I had already grown fond of Inca Cola (think kinda pink bubblegum-ish flavored). We ordered the ceviche and the lomo saltado. The ceviche was fresh with a lovely lime taste that finished with some heat. It was so filling and very refreshing. The calamari was not tough or chewy at all and the fish and mussels were fresh. The lomo saltado I had with beef and chicken served in the most delicious savory sauce. I was very disappointed in the Ceviche Classico... This is actually my favorite dish but it was the first time I went to this restaurant.... I was surprised when this dish came with milk in it and I ordered medium spicy that tasted like there was no spice at all.... This is the worst restaurant I have been to. They are the perfect example of no customer service skills. I ordered Pollada plate and the chicken was salty and there was a hair on it. One of the waiters came over and told him about it and he came back with and empty plate for me to put the chicken but told him about the hair and took the whole plate. Then another waitress came over and with attitude said they were not going to bring me another plate of what I ordered. She asked if I wanted to order again. I did not ordered. Best Peruvian in the valley! I used to love Del Mar Alago downtown but their quality and service has slipped pretty far. We always get Papa Huancaina a steamed potato in a sometimes spicy yellow sauce and Lomo Saltado, steak, tomatoes, onions, rice and fries with a yummy rich dark sauce. The food was delicious as usual and even better than I remember to some degree. Service was pretty good, around average or a little above. But I highly recommend Puro Peru, and if you like a little live music they usually have some live music on Fridays or Saturday's. read more

Felt ambitious one day and decided to try Peruvian food for the first time. One of the guys in our group spent 2 years there, and we pretty much let him take the lead. The atmosphere was great, with TV and music. Got two main dishes. 1. Arroz chaufa with beef. (5/5) Fried rice with egg and steak. Add in garlic cilantro and spicy sauce. It's just a big portion, tastes delicious, and fills you up. 2. Ceviche (5/5) Raw fish soaked in lime juice with onions. A quintessential Peruvian dish and truly unique. Every bite of fish is a flavor explosion and absolutely no fishy aroma at all. Combination of both of these dishes really complemented each other well and made me crave and do more research on Peruvian food. I like to come to this place with my family, because their food is good, but the costumer service at this restaurant is terrible. I haven't had experience like this before. I had to wait for ten minutes and they had plenty of staff and several tables available. The table that was seated after us, right next to us got to order at least 10 minutes before us. Let's start with the chicken cutlet on top of green spaghetti ... It costs around $14, but the plate is larger and good for two persons. The spaghetti is tasty and delicious. The chicken is thinly sliced and breaded, I like it ... Remind me of similar dish in Singapore. The deep fried seafood is huge. This is as good a dish as reviewed in yelp. My son truly loved the fish, it's a fresh fish and no fishy smell at all. My son kept asking for the fish... The calamari is good as well... I like the lime deep onion, they're truly refreshing. The prawn is good and the mussel is ok. At the end we box the remaining back home as we're so stuffed. The reasons I do not give 5 stars are as follows: 1. The restroom isn't as clean 2. The service is average, whereby they don't serve your drink; instead, they give you empty glasses with separate water in a jug. 3. So, it was a Saturday night and I felt like eating in and we rented Frozen. I used the Yelp App to see what was nearby and opened around 9pm. Puro Peru was one of those places. So they get a +1 for being opened late. I called and placed an order for the Tacu Lomo and not knowing if they have the next dish or not I just asked for it, which was the Aji de gallina. I was surprised that they had this here since most Peruvian places I go to in Utah do not serve this dish, so I was excited, and another +1 just for having this dish. The lady told me that it would take about 10-15 mins. 15 min passed and we were there and they said two more minutes. Servers came in and out and kept saying two more minutes. Another server saw that the food still has not arrived and still waiting, instead of checking on the food and seeing how it was going, she went to go dance with a customer and she saw my bf giving her the eye like WTF, so she kept on dancing and tried to deflect his eyes. So, negative many stars for this. After 30 + minutes from the time I called, the food was finally ready. Now for the food, I dug into the aji de gallina first since I've been waiting for this for the long time. It had the usual components of the creamy yellow sauce, chicken, potatoes, and boiled eggs. Is it the best that I had no, but it had the basics. The spices and flavors weren't all there, but it was good enough. Next, the tacu lomo, which is usually fried rice with beans and sauteed beef with onions and tomatoes. As far as the rice goes, I wish it had some crispiness to it. It might be different if I had it right away there since it was sitting in the sauce for awhile. Now for the beef, it was inconsistent, some pieces were tougher than others and some were a good consistency. As for now, I don't recommend getting take out from this place. I will come back and try out this place to see if the food was better and hopefully the service as well. read more

Still with a little bit of a slow service... But my server was really nice and friendly and I wasn't in a huge rush so it wasn't a problem for me. First time here was a great experience! Enjoyed EVERYTHING we ordered. Started with the Yucca frita appetizer which was the best I have ever had before. The Traditional Anticuchos were the next tasty thing to arrive to the table. Thick cuts of marinated beef heart was incredible and so tender. Also we had the Lomo Saltado which was very good but presented differently than I was used to. Coming to the table last was a Causa de Pollo which was very tasty too. Service was very well from a friendly gentle man there. After we finished the meal I noticed that the place was getting busy and over half of the tables had patrons dining there for the late dinner hour.
