I'm giving it 2 stars only because the place is clean and the service is excellent. Other than that, the experience was very disappointing. We ordered the seafood trio and the rice was reheated, dry, and gummy. We also ordered a chicken chaufa, and the rice was overcooked and completely flavorless. In addition, we ordered a chicken milanese; the salad was not fresh and the chicken wasn't either. The food was extremely bad and overpriced. We literally wasted $91 on flavorless food. For my first time going to this restaurant I was overwhelmed with how many options were available for Peruvian food! It was so good, everything from the rice to the chicken to the seafood was great! The service was amazing too-- they were constantly answering our questions and letting us know what their favorites were. I went here randomly with my wife. We were pleasantly surprised! This place has great food we have been back a second time and all the dishes we have tried have been really good flavorful but not spicy as in hot spice. I love hot spicy food but Peruvian food isn't spicy like that. I loved the flavors and everything was really good. My only complaint is the wait staff is very slow I think there are 2 people working one cooking and one serving if you have a large group that orders different dishes just know you will be waiting a long time. It's worth the wait though. At $20ish a plate I think it is worth it because you get enough for 2 meals and the leftovers are fantastic too! read more

I am in a trance. This restaurant is like a relaxing day dream. There was Salsa music on the speakers with a rhythm that promoted the chill ambiance. I wanted my birthday to be a dream come true. The appetizers I chose were Plananos Frites and Yuca Frites. The plantains were extremely ripe and deep fried. For me the taste was starchy, sweet potato, with mild essence that remind you that plantains are the cousin of the Banana. The Yuca frites were like steak fries on steroids. What a delightful alternative to the usual fried root vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes) as a newcomer I christen Yuca frites the favorite and embodiment of Peruvian appetizer. We tried to order a large Chica Morena which is a delicious dark colored drink that invokes a non alcoholic sangria. But it was unavailable to our table. I found this odd because the other tables clearly had large orders. There is preferential treatment for certain customers in some cultures. And although that may see unfair in the United States if you just roll with a foreign culture you will have fun. Instead of thinking why won't you serve us a large when you served others take the opportunity to order all the small drinks. What results is a sample of the plethora of drinks. We tried the Aztec Cola which was a cream style cola, A passion fruit drink (don't remember the name), and the show stopper The Chica Morena. Hands down Chica Morena is the most delicious drink on the menu. For dinner my Boyfriend had Tallarin Verde which was amazing that green sauce on the noodle is sorcery! I had Chaufa Vegetariana which I was shocked turned out to be Fried Rice. Most people from Peru have Asian ancestry and there is Chinese influence. I am ok with having Chinese food at a Peruvian restaurant. Next time I will try other options. Many Vegetarian options but few Vegan options I am glad I spent my birthday here. The service is extremely slow. However if you just want to eat, relax, and enjoy this place is amazing. I am so grateful to live a life where I can experience different cultures. Lucho Arroyo is cooking now at Contigo's Perú. We find it out recently, well we went yesterday, Saturday, a hot day when you crave a Ceviche. We had Cevuche de Pescado, Tamal Peruano, Papa a la Huancaína and Arroz con Pollo. Food for sure was great, Lucho Arroyo is the best Peruvian chef in town. Prices are high honestly. Paulino's is a a great hidden gem introduced to me by my coworker. I've had Peruvian food before and Paulino's isn't an exception for great comfort food. They do have a Brazilian flag out, and Paulino does speak Portuguese, but I don't see any noticeable Brazilian fusion or even Brazilian food. If you come during lunch time, there is a buffet available. It practically has everything on the menu. If you're new to Peruvian food, I recommend the buffet. This is so you can try everything before you decide if you like it or not. My coworkers and I just ordered off the menu. I got to try so many things and here is what I recommend. (I don't remember the actual names, but I'll give a detail enough description). Their green pasta with steak is very good - I do wish they would give us steak knife instead of butter knife. Their is a potato appetizer dish, with avocado and seafood in it. It's really good. Another thing that I liked is the cerviche. I had a coworker that is vegan, and when he ordered his dish it had eggs in it. We asked and told Paulino that he's vegan and don't eat any animal product...guessed he didn't listen. I had takeaway and were disappointed by the size of the papas a la huancaina dish. At $13, we got one potato sliced into three inside a smooth and cold creamy saucy that had some spicy elements to it. It was tasty but at least 50% overpriced. The cerviche de mariscos was good, nice fresh and roasted corn, at $23 also on the high side. We ordered a sauce, it was on the sides menu, we should have dug into it a little more but it smelled and tasted pretty ordinary and it wasn't clear what it would go with on the menu. Finally, Ford bananas, tasty and sweet, It was a $60 lunch overall, for one person, on what grounds can I justify returning to order from here? Since moving away I really miss this place. Everything on their menu is so tasty and authentic. Some of my favorites here are their succulent rotisserie chicken the Pollo a la Braza, beef heart Anticuchos, and their ceviches are excellent. Always get an order of yuca fries on the side..authentic, big slabs of yuca, mmm. Prices are fair but average, since Peruvian food is usually higher priced than other cuisines. Service is disorganized at times, but it's gotten better over the years. They are very nice people and their heart is always in the right place. They have a DJ and dancing on the weekends. Dining room is very casual, a hole-in-wall some might say, set up to accommodate mainly the families that frequent here. Good Peruvian food, different from Mexican food, at good prices. Try them for a new cultural experience. "Papa a la Huancaina" is a potato side which is unique to Peruvian cuisine and it is good. If you can drink sugary drinks try the "chicha morada" a Peruvian drink made from purple corn. Avoid Inca Cola it is a bubble gum flavored soda. This is a good place for seafood. I actually went here for my Birthday to force my family to get a little culture. The flavors are really mild, but I definitely enjoyed all of the food I tried. The menu focuses a lot around steak with veggies over rice with different sauces. I know this is going to sound funny, but i recommend anything that is yellow. Everything I tried that was yellow was really good, but unfortunately I dont know the name of it. Let me give you a few keys to success: 1) Service is, uh, not their strong suit. I mean, they are as nice as can be, but it's usually just one person running the whole place, and I can't imagine what it would be like if the joint is full. When I've been, it's been quite empty and the young girl was kinda struggling to get things right. Also, we finally just stopped asking what certain dishes were or what they contained, as the (once again, very kind) young gal who served us didn't really have much input on what things were and what ingredients they held. I suppose you could call the chef to come out and ask him, but its probably just a better idea to go in there with your homework done, or just order and see what comes out. 2) Stick with the fresh seafood, not the fried stuff. Yes, a big fat yes to the ceviche. So, so good. And of all the things I tried here, the fried seafood was probably the not-so-favorite. Everything else was great. Tacu tacu for the win; I think the seafood version was top notch. Get that. 3) It ain't about the decor. Tables don't match, and there's even a '70s-esque depiction of the Ogden LDS Temple on the wall. I kinda dig the eclectic look, if perhaps I don't fully understand it. 4) Chicken. Chicken. Chicken! Get the full or half bird that's roasted (a standard Peruvian dish) and you may be thinking about it for weeks afterward. I could see how it might be a touch salty for some (perhaps it was just that way on my night) but I dug it. So so tender, and juicy, and bursting with flavor. Not covered up flavor, but just amazing chicken flavor. That's the quick down low. Know before you go, and I think you'll have some flavors that will stick with you for a while. read more

I visited this restaurant with a group of friends and overall, we had a great time. The food is tasty but not out of this world. It is everyday food eaten by people in Peru. I had the grilled chicken, I shared a whole chicken with a friend for $32. I thought it was slightly dry although the flavor was good. Another friend tried the cebiche and it was tasty, but the side dish of corn was not very good. One corn grain was very crunchy and gritty and the other one was very bland. The fish portion was rather small for $22. The decor was nothing special, just murals of Peru with simple tables and chairs. The server and the owner sat by the buffet table (which I guess is used during lunch) and watched us eat. It was kind of odd, but I guess it could be cultural. Would I go back? Only if I had a friend gathering, but not otherwise. I'm not from Peru nor do I have any connection to the food, so this was a one-off visit for me. This place is by the liquor store that's on my way home from work. I actually stared at it too long once and crashed on my bike. Knew I had to try it soon. Wasn't really hungry but needed a morale boost. Walked in and the waitress was really friendly to me. I ordered a heineken and the beef heart. First time trying beef heart and I think I'll be dropping in for the exact same thing again. Texture\flavor was pleasing. Whatever sauce they served it with, well they went well together. This place is TARDIS-like--I was very surprised at how spacious it was inside. I've been wanting to come try Peruvian food, and today I needed an afternoon snack so I stopped in. The Tamal was really good. I was glad I had been educated by a Yelp Talk thread that it isn't a bad thing to have very little filling, because there were just 2 small pieces of chicken, a shred or 2 of carrot, and an olive. The masa was spectacular, and the side of onions, tomato, and cilantro complemented it well. I wish I'd have taken a picture, but I was so hungry, it was gone before I thought to take one. I look forward to having a meal here--the server was great to explain what unknown items were. There are several fish dishes, but I will be passing on those as I prefer mine broiled or grilled, and they offer fried and ceviche. Maybe I'll get adventurous enough to try ceviche... Overall I enjoyed my visit here - I'm always excited to try new Peruvian restaurants in the valley. Service was good and well-meant, but could use some improvement. I don't know why appetizers don't come before the entrees. This happens on most Peruvian restaurants and always amazes me! Server was welcoming and accommodating, even though we came in an hour before it was closing. She quickly pointed out that not the whole menu was available for ordering, and basically our options were reduced to half. Food took about 15-20 minutes to arrive. I was surprised how good it was, considering I've had that particular dish (Chupe de Camarones) in other restaurants and they weren't that good, so in hindsight, I didn't mind the wait. I know people can get annoyed when food takes a while to come, but for me, it's all about the attitude of the server and the quality of the food. Service can ruin even the greatest of meals, and this was not the case. I could tell this girl didn't have a whole lot of experience, but she seemed motivated to be helpful and friendly, so I give this place 3.5 stars, leaning more towards 4 when I close my eyes and think of the food alone.... everything we had was pretty tasty! We're hoping to come back soon at a busier time to give an updated review. They have specials of the day, which we ordered and were really good. The owner also came over to say hi and we enjoy meeting him as I think it shows that they care for their business, especially if they're there to help with closing (aka clean up). One thing I want to mention is the type of ventilation they have in their kitchen - none! All the smoke was in the front of the house! The server ended up opening the front door to allow the main room to clear up... and it got a bit chilly pretty quickly. Our eyes were getting irritated and burn. On top of that, you can guess what happened to our clothes... they all smelled as if we had been right in the kitchen with the chef. We did not like this one bit as we had to do a full laundry load when we got home... jeans, shirts, jackets, purses.... even our hair. But on a happier note, I warmed up and ate my delicious leftover Chupe de Camarones while waiting to rotate the laundry! :) What can I say, I am easy to please. Just give me good food and friendly service with an honest smile and I am good to go. Parking was small and I can tell that it would be a bit challenging if you come here at lunch time. Actually, a 3.5 stars if there's a half star option. I want to say this place is authentic, because the waitress can't really speak English, the TV was playing a very exciting soap that I have no idea what was going on. We had "Ceviche Mixto", the seafood is very fresh, the portion is fair. (I might give up Poki don for this!) We also had "Pollo Ceviche Mixto", the chicken was a little too salty and dried for my taste, but the fries was good and the rice reminds me of Thai sticky rice, I will like it more if it's not so greasy. A little disappointed with their "Platano frito", because it's literally a banana sliced in half and quick fried in the oil, that was it. Good Peruvian food in SLC ? The answer is a rotund yes. We ordered the Jalea Mixta and the Arroz con Marisco and both were on point. The Jalea came with a Ceviche cup that was delightful. Recommendation: Dunk the Jalea pieces on the Ceviche broth. If you want to try a completely different Latin food and take a break from Mexican cooking, here is a great option. In certain times and days they have a great buffet that allows you to try all kinds of flavors from the different parts of Peru. From Ceviche to Olluquito and Mazamorra for dessert. First time eating there today. My wife and I tried two appetizers and two entree's. My appetizer was a the papa rellena (thelittle football looking item with the yellow sauce on it). It was okay. The proportion of potato to the egg/meat/olives was off. My wife got the causa con pollo. I had a little forkful of it. It was pretty good...she loved it. I got the bistec a lo pobre. It had a underdressed side salad that was mostly under-pickled onion. The steak was okay, the potatoes and plantains were fried up right, and there was some rice on there also. This dish is screaming for a sauce of some sort. or at least some seasoning on the potatoes. What little sauce I got from the steak and salad was used up early. Some more of that yellow sauce from my appetizer would have made it much better. My wife got the lomitos saltado and loved it. I got to admit it looked really appetizing. All the food arrived quickly and completely. We both had the chicha morada to drink. I love this drink. So why just two stars? Well...after we finished our drinks (which is fairly early with a large meal) we would have liked to have ordered more. Once the food was served our waitress disappeared. Eventually I walked into the bathroom with my empty glass and got some water to drink. The guy at the next table had to walk back to the kitchen and ask for a refill. The people at the third table were apparently able to make it on one glass each. I fill like a real heel when I tip less that 20%, but when I have to get something to drink from the bathroom, that is a real bummer. read more

I had high hopes for this place & invited a group of friends I dine with monthly at international restaurants. One of my friends ordered a cup of coffee & was served an empty cup, steaming water & a bowl of instant coffee grounds...gross! I asked the waitress if the inti raimy combo was vegetarian & she said yes so that's what I ordered. It turns out 1 of the dishes had fish, 1 had beef, & the last had chicken. I think knowing weather a dish has meat or not is pretty basic menu knowledge. Another of my friends ordered a rice dish with shrimp & instead was brought rice with chicken. When we tried to send it back, we were asked if we wanted it to go & had to insist on the correct dish. The final straw was that one of my friends received his dish a good 30 minutes after the rest of us. read more

The owner was so kind and the music and feel of the place really stayed true to those two countries.
