Went back for the 1st time in many years and it is still tasty for sure but expensive. However the portions are huge. We tried a seafood dish with breaded fish fillet & other seafood like calamari, mussels, shrimp & even baby octopus in a rich creamy sauce served w/ rice. This was definitely my favorite dish. I got the Huancaina saltado which was a lomo saltado w/ a heaping portion of fettuccine noodles in a creamy sauce. The steak and stir fried veggies were good but the sauce & noodles were kind of bland. We also tried Rubi's Famous Causa Rellena, essentially like a potato salad type of cake. Alright but wouldn't order again. We also tried one of their soecials which was a mix of 3 different seafoods: a ceviche, shrimp chaufa and fried calamari. This is the best Peruvian restaurant you'll find in Utah. Rubi's has a casual vibe that's great for dates or bigger get-togethers. I came with my friend and we were excited about the food. The ceviche was so fresh and tasted like the ceviche I had in DC and Miami. The pasta en salsa de mariscos was fantastic as well. The noodles were cooked al dente and the sauce was creamy and flavorful. I do wish there were more mussels, but the portion was huge. I also ordered the passionfruit juice and that tasted heavenly. The food was so good! We got the pescado en salsa de mariscos & mixto ceviche and they were absolutely delicious. We went on a Friday night and got sat and received waters quickly. Rubi's Peruvian Taste was such a pleasant and tasty surprise! We were starving and saw this non descipt restaurant in a small strip mall. The restaurant was bustling at 5 pm on a Saturday. The restaurant is family run, another great sign, with some of the friendliest employees. Of course the highlight was the food. We started with the ceviche de pescado which was so good! I could've drank the broth it came in it was that good. It was filled with big chunks of fish, corn, onions, a chunk of sweet potato and a side of dried corn to add a nice crunch. We also got Rubi's famous causa relleno which when it first came out didn't look like anything special but it had such a great flavor with shredded chicken inside, layers of what tasted like mashed potatoes topped with a boiled egg wedge. For our entree we split the frejoles con seco which consisted of slow cooked beef, with Canarian beans and white rice. Ask for a side of the house made green hot sauce for an extra kick. I love Peruvian so it was nice to find one here in SLC and has now become one of my top ten favorite restaurants in the city. read more

Looking for a great Peruvian restaurant? This is easily one of the best in the valley. Great flavors, Fredy taste and friendly staff. I've known about this restaurant for a long time, but never made it over here. That was definitely a mistake. The ratings definitely speak for themselves, and you can see that everyone enjoys the flavors. I tried the classic dishes of lomo saltado and ají de gallina, they did not disappoint. If you're not sure what to order, both of them are fantastic choices. I would describe the Aji de gallina as a universal comfort food, a cream based sauce with chicken and rice. They did a great job packing in all the flavor. The interior of the restaurant is simple, with some artwork on the walls. I've been driving pass this place so many time, i was bound to come and try it. It's a smell place, with an amazing decoration. It made me feel like I was thrusted into amazing Peruvian culture. I dined in and I chose to order the Causa Rellena and Lomo Saltado, even though it's so much food for one person. I wanted to try both after reading good things. The causa came out and the first thing I noticed and loved was that they made it heart-shaped (so cute). I wasn't expecting this dish to be cold, so that surprised me, but it was very good. It's like two layers of lemony mashed potatoes sandwiching a center of a chicken salad. The lomo saltado was flavorful, meat cooked perfectly, and hot & fresh.
