Hole in the wall location is not in the nicest area, recommend driving not walking from the boardwalk. Would recommend trying the cinnamon sugar, 5/5. I hadn't visited Purple Glaze Donuts since before Covid and boy was I overdue. Rich, one of the new owners was so warm and inviting a and gave me an update of the new ownership. It looks like he did a great job with the transition. The donuts are still very good quality and taste amazing and they have a huge selection. Rich is the best! These donuts are my husbands favorite and we actually travel about 30 minutes to pick them up for our family dinners and events. PB & J - (see previous review for similar thoughts) Ring of Fire - I was unsure of this the last time I had it, but after eating it again, I was a fan. The slight spiciness of the jelly really made for an appetizing donut. Banana Cream Pie - This was somehow better than the last time, seemed like the banana topping was more flavorful. What's Poppin Lemon Special - This consisted of a lemon glaze, poppy seeds, and whipped cream. This was put together and the fluffy whipped cream enhanced the lemon flavoring here. I personally love gummies and I thought the shark attack donut was a combination of two things that I really enjoy. I'm excited to try new flavors as well! Plus the staff here is very friendly. This place has been on my list of places to check out. Of all the times going to Asbury Park I don't know why it took me so long. Went the Saturday before Christmas. I was able to park right in front (free parking right in front for patrons). I walked in and got warm greetings from everyone. They had a few donuts in the window on display (it seemed like their seasonal/limited time donuts). The rest of their menu is listed on the board on the wall. Thankfully they were very patient with me as I was determining what to order. I decided on getting a few classics and some of the seasonal donuts. As the employee was preparing my donuts, the owner started chatting with me. I told him this was my first time visiting the shop. The owner and the staff were super nice. All the donuts are made to order. They do take credit cards, but do charge a credit card service fee, FYI. I brought the donuts to my friends, who absolutely loved them. They get an A+ on creativity and design. Their donuts are cake based, which for me I prefer yeast based donuts. They did have one yeast based donut, but didn't realize that until after my order was complete. Great shop if you love artisan cake based donuts. read more

I was walking around downtown Asbury Park soaking up the atmosphere when I noticed a flag waving with what looked like a purple doughnut down the block. As I approached I was delighted to find that the flag was waving on the outside of Purple Glaze. Since I love doughnuts, and calories don't count on weekends, I immediately decided to check it out. Before even looking at the menu, I was (and still am) really impressed with the way Purple Glaze is handling the pandemic. It's a small shop so they're only allowing two people in at a time, but they have markers outside for social distancing and crowd control. Additionally, they are using disposable paper menus for you to use then toss. Onto the doughnuts - the menu has a large variety; it's almost overwhelming but they do a great job with descriptions. They had a special where you get $2 off a dozen so I went with that so I can bring home and share. I decided not to repeat flavors to get maximum coverage - some of my favorites were the raspberry jam, coconut, and the key lime. The doughnuts were good - they were fresh and the flavors were prominent. I'm normally more of a yeast doughnut person, but when it comes to cake these were some of the best I've had. If I had one criticism it's that they use the same cake doughnut base for all their flavors, so there's a risk of a somewhat monotonous flavor in all their varieties. Also, it's worth noting that because they are cake doughnuts the flavors lie on top of the doughnuts rather than acting as a filling. Overall though, I was really impressed with Purple Glaze. The doughnuts were great, and the fast and friendly service makes them a standout. If I find myself in Asbury Park again I'll be sure to return to try more of their flavors. read more

Check out their extensive menu! I'm not sure that you could go wrong with any of the donut options they offer. Aside from their lengthy menu, they also offer vegan and gluten free options; and even treats for the pups! I opted for the coconut concussion (vanilla icing, shredded coconut, coconut cream filling, and I substitute for vanilla drizzle (typically comes with chocolate drizzle). One thing to be mindful of is parking, being that Purple Glaze Donuts is in such close proximity to downtown Asbury, you have to parallel park on the street. The positive aspect-there's an ample amount of paid parking that's available. The shop is smaller but there is outside seating that's available! We were in town so we stopped in to see what this place was about and we weren't disappointed. We had our dog with us so I was going to stay outside while my girlfriend checked it out and one of the staff was like bring him in! So we did and he gave him a treat and was down on the floor petting him and he was awesome with the dog. This place is extremely warm and inviting and the 2 staff members we met (one seemed like the owner, the other her son?) were amazing. We went with the Boston Cream and Banana Cream Pie and sure enough he threw in a free Apple Cider donut. The Banana Cream Pie was amazing, no other way to describe it, banana cream isn't easy to do, I've had plenty of bad ones but this one was awesome with graham cracker crumbs too, delicious! Boston Cream was good and different, with a fresh warm donut with the cream on top instead of inside and the icing was tasty as well. Apple Cider donut - very good! Overall a great experience. Cute little mom and pop shop in Asbury. Donuts here are made fresh so each batch comes out a bit warm which is the best thing about Purple Glaze. They have a variety of flavors but the french toast and maple bacon is by far my favorite. I like how it's not a yeast type of only but it's not as heavy as a cake if you know what i mean. So I had a chance to check out this place before going to the beach. This place closed at 2pm so be aware before making a trip. This place is in town. Parking is metered and can be tricky especially in the summer . There is a parking deck but who wants to do that if all you want is to grab a donut lol. There is a small display of a few specialty donuts set up to show you what they look like All their donuts are made to order. The donut is more of a CAKE donut than a doughy inside ( like the glazed Dunkin' Donuts or Crispy Creme type donuts). Although I prefer doughy donut - but getting these donuts warm , fresh and made to order makes it worth it. I checked out the purple glaze and the Holy Canoli. Delicious and fun flavored donuts! My boyfriend and I ordered 4 donuts - cinnamon sugar, boston crème, salty dog, and coconut concussion. The donut base is all the same- perfect texture and the right amount of sweetness, even after sitting in my car for a couple of hours before we sat down to eat them. What can be said about a place that has 5 stars and 100+ reviews?!? Yes, it lives up to the hype. I've had friends obsessed with this place for awhile, and who were kind enough to bring me donuts to try, but I never ventured into the shop myself. We opted for a cookie dough chocolate one, and then couldn't agree on a fourth so we were just going to order 3.
