I chose this painting activity as a first date :) They do offer painting parties and whatever occasion you are seeking. Just ask the owner. I didn't get his name, but he's very kind and patient. First you choose the piece, and the price varies depending on the piece. Then the owner gives you a brief explanation of each area; paintbrushes, paint colors, sponges, etc. Next, you'll paint your masterpiece. Once completed, you'll leave your piece to get finished off in the kiln and it'll be ready for pickup in a few days. Parking can be tight, and is specifically marked per retailer since it's in a busy, posh area. This is a relaxing experience. Love this place! This is by far my favorite "paint your pottery" store. With lots of variety of pottery and hundreds of paints to choose from, you never get bored. I like how you can choose all the paints you want and bring them to your table unlike other places. Another plus is the lack of clutter. Everything is out in the open and easy to see. The quality is also really nice. They actually have real wood tables and chairs. Not some plastic crappy furnishings. Like I said before, they have hundreds of paint colors and everything you could possibly imagine to make that image in your mind a reality. They have all kinds of stamps, stencils, pencils, and other kind of paraphernalia. The quality of the glaze is also great too. It covers the whole piece and is not drippy. You also get the piece back in a relatively quick amount of time; about 5 days. Just don't forget about it! As you can tell this is place to go if your bored, with friends, on a date, have your baby's hand print painted on a plate, to make a gift, and so much more. Have fun!! read more

Came here for a group painting event. Picked up a bowl and about half a dozen colors and brushes. I wanted to do a floral pattern and asked the owner for tips. He was extremely helpful and brought over small brushes for me to use. He checked on me several times during the 2 hours I was there and gave me tips and hints. It was a relaxed environment, and you are allowed to bring your own drinks. Pieces are ready for pick up in 5 days. Overall an excellent experience! Highly recommend. read more

What an amazing spot. I took both my kids and we had a blast painting for over 2 hours. The two owners are so delightful and helpful and its the cutest activity. Everything felt super covid safe. The staff was so attentive and helped my kids out. We went next door for dinner and the evening was pretty perfect. I hear they also do group discounts - bring 8 kids together and you get 1.5hr of painting and a small piece to paint for $20. Great place to escape, unwind, and get caught up in a creative moment. I have been coming to Purple Glaze for years and have never had a bad experience. Coming here is a great way to spend an afternoon with friends! They have a wide variety of items to paint, paint colors, and other supplies. The staff are very helpful and friendly and seem to take the covid situation seriously. I love the paintable dishes because they are microwave and dishwasher safe (after the staff has glazed/fired the item). I painted a mug for my mom a couple years ago, and though she uses it regularly, it has held up perfectly! read more

Painting pottery has always been on my date option list, and my boyfriend and I finally got around to it on our week off. We came on a Thursday afternoon so we were the only ones which was really nice. The lady at the store was really helpful and super nice in explaining which pieces she would recommend painting, how to best go about painting our design, and just providing tips along the way. Prices were also super reasonable - we painted a picture frame and a jar for about 2.5 hours, and it only turned out to be around $65. I would highly recommend this as a fun activity! read more

What a neat idea! I came here back in December with a newborn care client and my little charge to have some "baby's 1st Christmas" ornaments made for their family. The owner was with us every step of the way, and we had a lot of fun getting little man's hand and feet printed in order to make the ornaments. You can pick your paint colors and have fun. For the ornaments, she made suggestions on paint color so that it would show up. Usually, the owner suggests that children ages 2 and up do handprints and footprints to make pottery decorations, but she let us come in anyway. The store is cozy, and there are lots of items to choose from--plates, mugs, statues, et cetera. Prices are VERY reasonable, especially given the inflated price tags of many of the other Rice Village stores/boutiques. You just leave it, and the owner will give you a time frame for later pickup. I noticed another group that came in after us that brought food in with them to set up for their activity. I can ABSOLUTELY see myself returning with a couple of friends to have a little party--bring some bites, paint some stuff, wait to have it glazed, and pick it up later. I always saw these cute little shops and thought, wouldn't it be fun to be that creative? They took that idea and ran with it and have a bunch of unpainted items for your decorating pleasure. You go, pick out what you want (I went with the jewelery box with a unicorn on the lid) and get to work. You get to paint to your heart's content and leave it with the kiln artist who fired it up for you. One week later, you go and pick it up and see the masterpiece you created. Or the massacred clay in my case. Note to others: This is a great place for a double date (that's what we did), but if you're either really anal retentive about being artist or embarrassed about sucking at coloring, this is a place to avoid. My purple and gray unicorn is absolutely hideous and made even uglier by the architect/artist's train. :( When my mother saw my unicorn, she just started laughing and told me that she's glad I'm not a child anymore so she doesn't have to lie and tell me that my artwork is beautiful. Let those creative juices flow through the art of pottery!!!! nah you won't be remaking that scene in Ghosts, but you can have a dandy time dabbling in painting pieces of pottery suitable for a extra bowl for your fruit loops or a nice serving platter for your nachos on SuperBowl Sunday... they got lots of other stuf too for your road to artistic therapy. The setup is like this: you go in, select a piece you'd like to paint, choose your colors and paint it. they gotta selection of pattern books and ideas from past artists that have took the plunge into the Haze... oops glaze... My only gripe about it is that they charge an hourly sitting fee (about 6 bux an hour per person) that can add up quickly, but usually it takes about an hour to do an okay job on a piece. They take your piece after it's finished and they have a turn around of about 3 days. Pretty quick, just in time for you to have that favorite coffee mug completed to sit on your desk waiting for your morning cup of joe. I wanna give it 5 stars because the staff is super friendly (plus they refired my piece when they found a flaw in it, but after being at a few others, this one is cool but not great. but it's most def a cool date place for those who wanna express their admiration of art without losing an ear for love... enjoy! read more

I took a group of girls from my church for the first time here, we had a great time painting pottery. The owner was very nice and attentive. The studio was warm and cozy. There was a range of ceramics to choose from, I choose an adorable heart plaque. I loved that they had a variety of stencils, stamps, colors and brushes to choose from. This is a good place to go if you're feeling creative or just want to relax and paint. After explaining the basics of painting you can find the ceramic object you want and it's all you for the design. After you're done painting, they will do the finishing and you can pick up your work of art after a few days. This place would be good as a first date or for children. A friend of mine had her birthday here and they were very accommodating to our party. They set up the back half of the room with tables for us to paint as well as a table to place our food and drinks. This is a very charming place. I have had two very good experiences here. We celebrated my wife's 40th and Theresa, the owner, was very nice and helpful. We were a group of 20 with lots of pre-teen kids and she managed to help all of us. We even brought in a cake, snacks and juice and Theresa had no issues with that. The place itself is in a great location, is cozy to give you a homely feel and yet has enough space to accommodate a decent sized crowd. When our pieces were ready Theresa packed them and boxed them up for me to pick up. All in all, a fantastic experience and hope to return there soon. read more
