Finally there's a great Chinese immersion daycare/ preschool on the west side. My son started when he was 20months, at first he cried when I dropped him off and now he will hold teacher's hand and wave bye bye to me, it's obvious he likes going there. -Teachers are responsive, patient and kind, they always have time and very willing to talk to you if you have questions/ concerns which I'm very happy with. -They have so many fun projects throughout the day, I just like it how they don't only play but it's also educational. Sensory, music, art, cook etc -big backyard for kids to run around and play -Mixed age group -healthy hot lunch included

Teacher Rosie is the best! Our daughter has grown so much at purple magpie. Teacher Rosie has so much enrichment and curriculum for the children everyday. She teaches the children in a way that is developmental, fun, theme based and creative. Thanks to purple magpie my child has been introduced to art, dance, yoga, Chinese language and culture, delicious and healthy food, and so much more! She loves going to school with her friends and learning something new everyday. It is a safe and nurturing space. You can tell how much teacher Rosie and her staff pours into the children with so much thought and care. We also love how many pictures and updates we get throughout the week. Purple magpie is truly a gem! We highly recommend!

My soon to be 3 year old daughter has attended Purple Magpie for just over a month now, and so far we are very pleased with the school. Teacher and founder of the school, Xiqian (also goes by teacher Rosie), is so pleasant to deal with. She radiates kindness, and it's also clear that she has a lot of knowledge in how to work with kids in a respectful and productive way. She is very good with the children, and give them a lot of love and patience. I've seen her comforting a crying child, and it was as though it was her own. It was very sweet, and made me feel so much more comfortable leaving my daughter in her care. From the second week there, my daughter was completely fine with drop offs. This is because she was already comfortable at the school and knew she would be taken good care of and have a fun time. The school provides a good balance of fun and learning. Several times a week I've seen them have dance classes or yoga sessions, and they also do arts and crafts, cooking, as well as other learning activities. There's also that much needed room for play, which is so powerful for learning in the toddler years. There's a bug back yard where the kids are able to go crazy and fulfill their needs for physical activity. I think my daughter is learning so much both socially, emotionally, and cognitively at this school. I love that it's not only a language immersion school, there's also cultural immersion. This is key for kids growing up in a global world and in a city with such diversity that being able to understand different cultures is crucial. I feel we've been welcomed with open arms to the school as a family with no Chinese background (I'm European). We do not speak any Mandarin at home and our daughter did not have much prior exposure to the language, but this has not been an issue at all. I was very surprised when our daughter started singing songs in Chinese on our drive home from school after just a couple of weeks. It's amazing how quickly babies and toddlers pick up languages. I also appreciate that this school offers a lot of additional learning opportunities, such as weekend classes and after-school program for elementary school children. It means we can continue to send our children here for many years, even beyond their preschool years. They also offer part time, which many other local preschools do not. Purple magpie offers a very nurturing, fun, and educational environment for our daughter. We love that it's a small school with kids of various ages. It's healthy for kids to learn to interact with kids of different ages than themselves. We can't wait to our youngest is old enough to attend as well. Most preschools or daycares would separate them because they are 2 years apart. At purple magpie they will be able to spend their day together, which in an of itself is so valuable to us. The hot lunches provided at the school also saves so much time in the morning from having to prepare a lunchbox. I'll continue to edit my review as we gain more experience at this school, but so far it's absolutely perfect. We searched for other mandarin immersion opportunities in the area, and this school was definitely the best for what we were looking for.

My son has attended purple magpie for almost 1 month. Every day when we are in the car on the way back, I always ask "do you want to come and see teacher Rosie tomorrow", the answer is also "yes!" They have tons of different fun, creative and educational activities. And every week they have a theme to relate those activities, it can be an animal, some kind of flower etc. My son not only has a lot of fun there but also learns a lot! Teachers are also super patient, kind and encouraging. It's a really good daycare! Recommend it!

Our family has had such a wonderful experience at Montessori Academy of West Adams over the past…read moretwo years. From the very beginning, we were drawn to their individualized academic approach, which truly allows each child to grow at their own pace while building confidence and a genuine love of learning. It has been incredible to watch our daughter thrive in an environment that recognizes her unique strengths and encourages her curiosity every single day. The teachers are absolutely amazing--warm, attentive, and deeply committed to making every child feel supported and valued. We especially appreciate all the extra thought and creativity that goes into making her early school years so memorable, from engaging activities to special events that bring so much joy to my daughter. Thanks to this wonderful community, our daughter's first experiences with school has been nothing short of extraordinary, and we are so grateful to be part of it.

We cannot say enough about how special MAWA is. Choosing a preschool is such an important decision,…read moreand we feel endlessly grateful that MAWA became the foundation of our daughter's early childhood. The directors, administrative team, and teachers are truly exceptional. They bring so much intention, warmth, and care to everything they do. It is clear that they see and value each child as an individual, and they create an environment where children feel safe, confident, and inspired to explore the world around them. Our daughter has grown into such a thoughtful, curious, creative, and kind little person, and MAWA played an enormous role in that. She learned not just academic fundamentals, but how to be a good friend, how to express herself, how to ask questions, and how to move through the world with confidence and empathy. There is something truly magical about this school. It is a community in the fullest sense of the word, and the impact extends far beyond the classroom. We will always be grateful to MAWA for helping shape who our daughter is becoming. It is an extraordinary place, and any family would be lucky to be part of it.

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you end up using Michelle, it will ruin all other agencies for you…read more I am a professional career nanny. I have over seven years of nannying experience, five years of teaching experience, and more. I have a B/S in childhood development as well as my MAT. When I began my search for a nanny-family in LA, I did my due diligence by shopping around looking at multiple agencies. I found that Michelle had the TOP RATED AGENCY ON MULTIPLE SITES and wanted to take a closer look. I read through every. single. review. I thought to myself, "Really? Every single person had a positive experience with this agency? That's just not statistically possible if she's really working with this many people..." I decided to set up a meeting. I drove to her office where we met to discuss particulars (what I'm looking for, what families are in the market for a nanny right now, what ages/salary/commute/hours I'm looking for) and the moment she opened the door and greeted me with a giant smile and her upbeat, positive attitude, I felt like just working with HER was my perfect placement! Once we started the process, Michelle was completely professional while also refreshingly honest and realistic in her suggestions. She really took the time to get to know me and what I was looking for and she only suggested me to families that she knew had the potential to be a "love match!" After looking at a few potential matches, Michelle called me to tell me that she had "found my family!" She said, "This is the one. Please go for an interview and see for yourself." So I did. This is the part of the review where I'm going to get annoyingly emotional. Not only did the family and I immediately "click," but Michelle had made sure that all of our stats were in alignment. The age range, schedule, amount of hours, commuting time, pay rate, expectations and needs happened to all align with what I was looking for. It was LITERALLY the PERFECT PLACEMENT!!!! Coincidence? I think not. Michelle is highly intelligent, professional, personable, understanding, diligent, experienced, communicative, and pleasantly charismatic and I owe my job satisfaction directly to her. Now that I think about it, maybe I should send over a bottle of wine. Thank you, Michelle, for just being so incredibly good at what you do. As I mentioned earlier, when I started this process, I read through every one of your (5 star) reviews and thought, "There's just no way every single review can be five stars..." and now here I am adding one more.

It seemed like I had landed a few dream jobs only for it to slip away from me. Really trying times. Then I met Michelle! This brings a smile to my face. Meeting with her felt like chatting with a friend. I realized after that this is her skill. She loves people and wants to represent both the families and the nannies. It was a slow period and she didn't have any job opportunities at the time when I signed up with her agency, the perfect placement. After being on the hunt for my top nanny job with a kind family for many months and it wasn't happening I was getting ready to move out of state. I mentioned to Michelle that I'm no longer looking for a position as it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Michelle didn't give up on me. She called me with 2 opportunities. I went on both interviews and was called back to do a trial for the one that I wanted !! Yay !! Then Michelle negotiated some time off that I needed to take care of a health issue. The family was so wonderful they waited for me ! All I can say everything lined up perfectly. Michelle will always return your call in a timely manner and she always checks in to see how you're doing. I thank God I met Michelle !

Got him interested to use scissors (found out he's a lefty here and provided him lefty scissors) and through his art class made some classy stuff. Pieces that are still on the walls of our house. Stuff he made for Father's Day that is still sentimental to the hubby. They go on monthly field trips (like Kidspace) but what's cool is that they utilize Metro or Dash to the city library for magic shows, story time, puppet shows, or to parks like Grand Park (splashing around). It is affiliated with a Japanese Buddhist church so they do go to the Hondo for some gassho and singing with the minister in the morning (15 mins). From observation the families that utilize this resource are very diverse--I would even say that Japanese families are in the minority here. I am of the group that chose this place due to its proximity to my workplace, and I think others have too. Ms. Susan has been director for quite some time and I've personally seen old students now adults say hi to her at Nishi obon. Staff are very kind and nurturing. The daycare is nicely situated in a space that is shaded so they aren't going to roast when playing outside. Even now as my kid is enrolled at public school TK I still take him here during LAUSD winter breaks, or the myriad of "no instruction days" on their calendar. They take kids up to age 6 so this has been a godsend to me. Kids as young as 2 must come potty trained. Currently monthly tuition is $1170 might be $50 lower per month if you pay to become a temple member.

The teachers really get to know the kids, their strengths and needs, and develop an individual plan for each one to help them grow intellectually and personally. Each year, they complete an academic and social-emotional evaluation for each child, and it's amazing to see how much personal detail goes into the daily activities. The Nishi Center isn't just a school, it's a real community, both for the kids and the parents. Some of my son's classmates have parents who went to Nishi when they were kids thirty years ago, and they drive across town to give their kids the same great experience. My younger child just started at Nishi, and I'm so glad that we get to continue our relationship with this beautiful group of people in this very special community.
