If you work with this company, I strongly recommend retaining copies of every payment, cashier's…read morecheck, invoice, email, and text, and independently verifying that every payment has been properly credited. I want to start by saying that the actual work I had done was completed very quickly and, as far as I can tell, was done well. My complaint is not about the roof itself. It is about a duplicate payment issue that took more than five months to resolve, required me to contact the Minnesota Attorney General's Office twice, and was ultimately resolved only after I opened a dispute with my credit card company. I initially sent Firebird Exteriors a $1,500 cashier's check as a partial payment for my roof. I was later contacted and told that the cashier's check had not arrived. Based on that information, and believing the original payment was missing, I paid the full amount due by credit card. I subsequently worked with my bank to determine what had happened to the missing cashier's check. My bank confirmed that the $1,500 cashier's check had, in fact, been cashed. More concerning to me, the date on the negotiated cashier's check showed that it had been cashed BEFORE I was contacted and told that it had not arrived. I want to be very careful about how I state this: I do not know what happened internally at Firebird Exteriors. I do not know who knew the check had been cashed or why their records apparently did not reflect the payment. I can only state what my documentation shows: the check was negotiated, and afterward I was told it had not arrived and made another payment based on that information. Once I discovered the duplicate payment, I contacted Firebird and provided documentation. They acknowledged the discrepancy and agreed that I was owed a $1,500 refund. Unfortunately, getting that acknowledged refund back became another lengthy process. On January 5, 2026, I received written confirmation that a $1,500 refund check would be issued and mailed to me that week. I did not receive it. I continued following up. On January 27, I was told that the refund check had in fact been mailed but apparently had not reached me. I was then offered several electronic alternatives for receiving my refund. At various points I was offered Cash App, Apple Pay, Zelle, and Venmo. I was uncomfortable receiving a $1,500 contractor refund through a peer to peer payment service and requested a conventional electronic bank transfer instead. I was told that their bank did not offer the requested ACH transfer option. Meanwhile, I still did not have my $1,500. By this point, I had contacted the Minnesota Attorney General's Office twice regarding the unresolved duplicate payment and had spent months following up, documenting communications, and trying to recover money that Firebird had already acknowledged was owed to me. I finally contacted my credit card issuer and opened a billing dispute concerning the duplicate payment. After I initiated the credit card dispute, I was contacted by Firebird and told that another cashier's check would be sent. This time, at my request, I was provided a photograph of the cashier's check and a tracking number. I ultimately received that cashier's check, deposited it, and it cleared successfully. I did get my $1,500 back. I am glad this was eventually resolved, and I want to be completely transparent that Firebird did ultimately return the money. However, I do not believe recovering an acknowledged $1,500 duplicate payment should have required more than five months, repeated follow-ups, two contacts with the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, multiple proposed payment methods, and finally a formal credit card dispute. The experience was enormously stressful, particularly because this was an insurance-related roof replacement and $1,500 is a significant amount of money for my household. Again, I was satisfied with the speed and apparent quality of the roofing work itself. My experience with the payment and refund process, however, seriously damaged my trust in the company. If you choose to work with Firebird Exteriors, document everything. Keep copies of every payment. Keep your cashier's check records. Save your emails and texts. Verify that every payment has actually been credited to your account. I am extremely glad that I did

But that's not all - I was in a protracted battle with my insurance company, which denied our claim. Phil was confident that we would win an appeal of the initial denial and explained the process to me, assisted with submitting all the required documentation, met with the insurance person and the neutral "arbitrator" handling our appeal to look at the roof, etc. And Phil was right! We won our appeal and, as a result, the insurance company had to pay for our new roof. Without Phil and Ashley's guidance, I wouldn't have even known how to handle that process. They knew WAY more than my own insurance agent and were so dedicated to helping me find a resolution. They were so ethical and transparent and reasonable throughout, and Ashley was so patient with me. They even helped me get our ceiling repaired due to the water damage that came through the roof. In short, I enthusiastically recommend APK Restoration. I don't think I've ever worked with a company in this industry (home improvement/general contracting) that I trust more than APK.

We live in a wooded area, and at some point a branch had damaged part of a 28 foot section of the gutters, bending the gutter and gutter guard which keeps debris out. I noticed this when clearing leaves and debris off the roof. I gave them a call, hoping that I could get by with just replacing this one section. One of their guys came out (forget the name), started inspecting flashing and other things and I started to dread the list of all the wrong things he was going to find. After a few minutes, he told me that everything else looks good, and that he could straighten the gutter, straighten the guard, and secure it better. He did this.. took maybe total of 20 minutes. When I asked what the cost was, he told me no charge. Cannot even tell that the gutter had been damaged. Can't get better service and care than that. Highly recommended

This is a complaint for siding issue that I filed with the installer July 28th of 2022 for what are called nail pops on my siding. They are visible on three sides of the house. East, West, and South. No nail pops on the North side of the house. When I contacted the installer, they told me that I needed to file a warranty claim against the maker of the siding. (I also sent Elk River exterior photos of the siding.) Elk River Exterior claimed it was a problem with the siding. So I filled out a warranty form and sent pictures to the manufacturer (PLY GEM). Also the owner of Elk River Exterior came and took pictures of the problem and sent to Ply Gem. After much time of going back and forth with the manufacture (Ply Gem) and the Installer (Elk River Exteriors), the manufacture of the siding (Ply Gem) finally sent a Technical Service Representative to inspect the siding in April. His response to the (Nail Pops) was found to be the direct result of improper installation techniques or practices. Some of the discrepancies noted but not limited to include *Nailing at end of nail slots *Nails protruding * Nails from nail hem causing heat buildup/water retention between the panel and fastener. * Nailed to tight, nails at opposite ends of nails, and /or panels that were not given proper clearance to expand as temperatures varied. Ply Gem encouraged us to contact the company that installed siding. But Elk River Exteriors still insist that it is a manufacturing issue with the siding and as of June 19th, 2023 I received a voicemail from the Owner of Elk River Exterior that they will not be correcting the issue.

We'd taken care of the demo and landscaping to prep the site. Chad and his crew took it from there and did a really fabulous job. We have a challenging site because of heavy clay soil and large tree roots. They carefully set the posts and quickly got to work - late in the fall - on putting up the structure. The deck went up quickly and they did everything - including the horizontal privacy cladding, a custom bumpout to integrate the new deck into the 70s house, a custom double swing door to access the storage space, and a custom railing using wire panel - exactly to spec and with a high degree of craftsmanship. Chad and his crew were always timely, courteous, and did a great job cleaning up the worksite each day. We really appreciate the great work they did and have already been so thankful to finally be able to store some unsightly items out of the way and can't wait until spring when we paint the house and stain the deck. Finally, as a female homeowner, I really appreciated that they recognized that I was the person in the equation who cared most about the outcome of the project, who had the strongest viewpoints on the design decisions, and who needed to be consulted as the project went along. This is not always the case and it's refreshing to work with a crew who doesn't ignore "the wife."
