Such a beautiful area! Came for company retreat. Enjoyed riding the electric bikes, UTV's, axe throwing and archery. The UTV experience could have been at a better pace for us, it was pretty slow/uneventful but had beautiful views. Archery and axe throwing were fun. There are 2 restaurants, Old Tom's pub was okay. Service was hit or miss and we had to send things back a couple of times. Arrington's on the other hand was absolutely fantastic. I wish I could have tried everything on their menu! I considered the breakfast buffet overpriced for the offerings. Staying at Pursell, the walls are thin. I could hear everything from the floors above me. Some parts of my room were not cleaned adequately enough. I brought this to the attention of the front desk and they listened to my concerns. Rented a meeting room where our items got pulled too soon before our reservation was complete and we could have used more assistance on the technology side when we arrived. Every employee was kind and personable. Seeing the cows was fun. Next time I come by I would love to check out their shooting range and play a round of golf. Recommend for a nice weekend getaway. I had never heard of Pursell Farms. Then a great family friend was having a wedding there and most guest got a room for that evening. We live about an hour drive time and simply did not want to drive home after the wedding and drinking. The room rate was higher then I expected but figured it was because this was such a nice place. The wedding started at 5:00 PM. The day before the event, I called to ask when check-in time was. I was told 4:00 PM. That was a little late especially if you wanted to have a nice day at the pool. Let's start there. The Pool: This was an unheated outdoor pool. Kind of small. No servers for drinks or food. I expected much more service than that especially at these prices. The Bar: Was two flights up and that was were you had to go to order food. The boxed it and you brought it to the pool area. The fries were cold even before you left the bar. It took several minutes at a bar that had people seemingly doing nothing simply to pay. Later I went in for a drink still waiting for my food and it took 5 minutes to even have someone ask what I wanted at the bar. The Bar again was not busy. My Room: Other members of the wedding showed up. Their rooms were ready as early as 2:00 PM. We were still waiting at 4:00 PM. The front desk was nice and all but I had two woman they needed to get ready and now they only had 40 minutes or so. The Wedding and Catering: All done by outside professionals. Best wedding I have been to in years. Prior to going to Pursell Farms, I was hoping we found a place for a long weeks end. We did not. Darn shame. Has all the bones to be quite a place. Came here for a managers work retreat and I have to be totally honest, I never knew they existed. As you drive through the entrance and embark on the approx 5 mile drive to get into where everything is located, you're greeted with a variety of different views, from wooded areas to golf course from streams to shooting range area... they keep their grounds in top notch condition and take a lot of pride in overall appearance. Staff great you at the Inn and are probably the best/nicest I've ever experienced at any hotel. Very accommodating at any time day or night. We kind of hand the run on the place being the off season, so both restaurants, Tom's Pub as well as the one downstairs (forgot the name) were set up just for us the first day. Great food, full of flavor and large portions. Wait staff was equally friendly and took pride in their work. Onsite amenities include a workout room (didn't go in), an outdoor pool (not sure if heated), free WiFi, in room fridge stocked with water, direct TV...and much, much more. So glad we had our retreat here, I would have never known this place existed. Would very highly recommend for a great getaway location. read more

Just got back from the two day wingshooting school at Orvis Pursell Farms. Great experience! Learning shotgun skills is something I've always wanted to do and this was the perfect entry. I arrived as a complete novice and Chuck Baker was an outstanding instructor. He completely met me at my knowledge and skill level and took his time to make sure that I was learning all along the way. He zeroed in immediately on my learning style and adapted to what was working best for me. I expected to do well initially and then falter some (normal for me), he saw this and worked to help me advance beyond what I expected by the end of the weekend. The shooting facility and staff are outstanding and I got a tour of the entire farm. Food was great and everybody there was welcoming. Great entry to the sport and already planning a return trip for the upland hunt event later this year. read more

Attended a birthday dinner this weekend. What a beautiful place. I was in awe of its beauty. Free valet. We dined at Old Toms Pub. The menu is nice but very limited in my opinion I had a hard time choosing what to eat. Went with the Marinated Balsamic Chicken w/ Roasted Potatoes and Brussel Sprouts. Kese ordered Pig Candy for an appetizer. I'm not a sweet and savory mixed kinda person so it was the most awful thing ever. Bacon cooked in brown sugar and serviced in a cup of brown sugar. It took us over an hour to get our food. I had to eventually ask other servers to give me something to drink and they were refilling our cups with no ice. Everyone had several errors with their food so some of us didn't eat with everyone else. My First chicken was over cooked and dry. I was starving so I just tried to deal but for $21 I sent it back. The second one came out pretty quick and was cooked better but I just didn't enjoy it. The skin in the chicken was rubbery and I expected it to be crispy since it was roasted. The Brussel sprouts and potatoes were perfect. Checkout time. Another extremely frustrating moment. The server asked us how was the check split and it's mainly couples. He comes back with everyone on separate tickets saying the machine wouldn't let him ring couples which we know is a complete lie. That was 30 minutes gone. We just figured it was so the service charge would be more. Well everyone else's service charge was $4-$5 mine was $51.20. Talk about a charge. My meal wasn't even more than that. A few others were grossly incorrect as well. He blamed the computer again and went to fix them. By the time we got a correction and paid everyone one was gone that we came to dinner with. Literally an hour to pay and we ended up flagging and girl down and asking her to take the payment for us bcus we just felt awkward sitting waiting on him to return with an hour long drive ahead of us. read more

My cousin had his wedding here this summer. Everything was beautiful and everything was taken care of very well except one very big thing. 9 days before the wedding my uncle, the father of the groom, tested positive for covid, he had a fever that broken 4 days prior to the wedding. He planned to wear a mask and socially distance during the ceremony and stay in a corner during the reception. Minutes before the ceremony, however management informed him and his wife, mother of the groom, that he would have to sit 20 yards away during the ceremony and that he would no longer be welcome to stay for the reception. He was not allowed to come in contact with anyone, including direct family members who lived in the house with him and out of town family members who had already had the virus previously. He was threatened to be escorted off of the property if he did so. If management was so scared of Covid they should have cancelled the wedding all together in May when it was originally supposed to take place. According to the CDC, the virus is spread prior to symptoms showing and when you are symptomatic, not after. All in all, my family handled this horrible experience very well, but personally, I hope that this lack of understanding of how viruses actually spread and hostility of the management and how they run their business discourages you and anyone else from booking this venue for your wedding. read more

I cannot say enough good things about our time at Pursell Farms. They take Southern Hospitality seriously and went above and beyond to make our time special. We had an absolute blast on the electric bikes and had a wonderful experience at the spa (thank you Crystal and Melissa). The front desk and hospitality/transportation staff were absolutely incredible (special thank you to Miss Misti, Mr. Steve, and Mr. Jimmy!!). The food was delicious and the staff in the restaurants were extremely kind and helpful. By the end of our stay we felt like we'd become friends with some of the staff and hate to say goodbye. We sure hope to come back someday! If you're looking for a gorgeous place to stay with top-notch service and Southern Hospitality, look no further! read more

I'm not sure why the poor reviews... must have expectations that can't be met frankly. Came here this weekend for my birthday. Took the UTV ride (highly recommended) and ate at Old Tom's Pub twice. Food was excellent and service was on point. Want a fantastic waiter? Ask for Jesse (he's the real deal). Couldn't have asked for a better visit. Fabulous grounds and golf course. The beds in the Inn are wonderfully comfortable. Come see this place.... you'll be glad you did. read more

The hotel was fantastic. Extremely good construction, roomy and luxurious and quality furnishings. A great place to bring your +1. Very comfortable and cozy with fireplaces, historic photos and views of the golf course. The size of the property is impressive and it's simply a delight to just soak it all in. The golf course blew me away. There's nothing forced or hidden ... it's all there and it's a game in course management more than anything else. The condition of the course was magnificent and WAY better than similar RTJ courses. Plus, no houses or other structures to interfere with your walk through nature. I'm a fan and will definitely play again. The food was a disappointment. For the prices charged, I expected more. My meal was marginally better than a Cracker Barrel version, despite costing about 4X as much. The wine? You'd do better randomly picking ANY four bottles of wine at a Publix. What the Inn offered was undrinkable. (Amazing ... considering the clientele who frequents.). The drinks? There's a big sign saying "Alabama Law prohibits more than 1.25 oz per drink". The standard pour is 1.5 oz. You only pour less to max your profit. I had a cocktail immediately after I left and the pour was ... 1.5 oz. Regardless, my advice is to bring your own and make your cocktails in your room and enjoy the view from the balcony. It's spectacular. The service was exceptional. Not only was it good, it was FRIENDLY. The staff were all so approachable and hospitable ... almost like staying with family. I will definitely be back. read more

I went here with my cousin as I was visiting my home town of sylacauga. The grounds are beautiful driving up to the restaurants. Pursell farms have three different restaurant. I chose the newest addition, Old Toms pub. As my drink of choice, I had a sex on the beach from the bartender. I was not the best tasting one I've had, but she tried. As an app, I had the opportunity of trying the bacon with brown sugar! OMG! A pleasant combination of sweet and savory taste in your mouth you'd ever want to try together. Genius move! So good I bought a second round! I had the burger with and egg on it. Good choice, cooked as I order medium well. I want to go back again. read more

The place is beautiful and for several years we have had Thanksgiving lunch there and it has always been too notch. This year is was well below average in taste and selection especially considering the prices level per person. For starts, the k options changed from Hamilton Place to the Inn - there was no indication of this change on the website, when we called to make reservation or when they confirmed reservation two days in advance. The new space was extremely crowded with no accessible place for a Buffett. I assume they overbooked as they spent the first 20 dragging in folding tables to shove more guests by bathrooms and corners where there was really no space to start with. The selection was not even close to menu posted online with far inferior products. Most of the food was poorly prepared - reddish was raw, shrimp over smoked and the quail was so over cooked it was inedible. The turkey was excellent and the kids portion of the Buffett was the best dishes available which was max and cheese frozen tater tot's and frozen pizza. For the price this was a completely unacceptable meal after years of previously fabulous food and an array of choices. The service was excellent though. read more

We attended a wedding here. Which was absolutely beautiful and the food was delicious. A complaint I have is that the room was over $300 and they were the most uncomfortable beds I've slept in. Several people from the wedding party said the same thing. We also had to deal with our room key not working. We had to go to the front desk on three separate occasions. That was an inconvenience. Especially when it's the end of the night and all you can think of is going to sleep. Also, beware, we had no WiFi! So it was difficult to contact other people attending the wedding to meet up. Everyone had the same problem and each of us had different cellular providers. read more

Had a recent, spur of the moment, stay at Pursell Farms. Stunning views from our balcony, the pool, and the upstairs restaurant. Had some difficulty with our room being clean and a delay in response but the young lady at the lobby counter took it upon herself to come and clean where needed. Have stayed on masters weekend every year for the past 6 years. Every year while checking out I make sure to reserve a cottage for the next year. This year I began calling and leaving voicemails 2 months in advance to ensure my reservation was held. The Monday of masters weekend someone finally transfers me to a lady who informs me they are at 100% capacity and my reservation is no good. 11 friends are unable to attend their annual golf trip which is in remembrance of a friend lost along the way to cancer. All due to terrible customer service and the inability to return a simple phone call. Very upset with the way this was handled. read more

I'd love to give this place 4 stars or better, but I just can't. Conceptually, PF is wonderful. It's fresh, new, and a great piece of property. I came on a golf weekend with a few buddies. We're pretty low key, but we spent a lot of money and tipped well. But, ultimately, the service was subpar. I understand the Inn is new. They're growing into it. During lite stay, they appeared to be way understaffed. The service is friendly, but painfully slow. On the turn at the golf course today, it took 20 minutes to get 2 coffees and 2 hit chocolates (cold day). At dinner at the Pub, the service was simply unacceptable. PF appears to want to be a resort destination, but they have a long way to go. Despite our best efforts to engage the staff for good service, they left us completely unattended to work a local wedding crowd. That group was 20-somethings - jeans, boots and flannels. There is nothing wrong with that - I prefer the casual atmosphere. The Pub has no music, poor service and and very mixed crowd. Not a great scene. Not for high-end resort money. That said, the pub-style food was outstanding. PF is a great place to visit. I hope they make it. read more

Stayed there for a company event. Pros: beautiful setting and fluffy towels. Cons: Too expensive for what you get ($330/night). Comments from my coworkers included too many stray hairs in the bed sheets and in the shower, only one towel in the bathroom, bed area not vacuumed, and no supplemental security lock on the door. Checkout process way too long. No business center on site. Breakfast for our group was a challenge - not enough chefs and the food was ill prepared (over cooked bacon and biscuits, runny eggs, undercooked grits, etc.). Ideal spot for a golf outing. Go later in the fall if possible to soak up the better weather. Food was good (I recommend the fish tacos) and golf was really nice. Love the extra touches like watermelon and cold apples at the turn. Iced towels were infrequent but still a nice touch. If give the chance to play in the area or schedule your outing, I highly recommend. Accommodations are nice as well. read more

Great destination place for shooting clay targets, golf or fishing. We enjoyed the clay shooting with an Orvis guide and then had a wonderful dinner.
