How do I reconcile the boutique and nicely curated offering in the store with the actual experience? I totally get the low ratings. This is not a luxury experience even though the price tags and brand names tells you it should be. The obvious first frustration is the parking lot. I understand that free parking is very nice perk but I rather pay $2 on the street compared to the insanity that can be found on that asphalt. The clientele that uses Pusateri are very scary when it comes to driving... a lot of them are unaware or selfish. They drive their car like how they drive their carts in the aisles... completely vacant of their environment or people near them, super slow and blocking everyone, they do 25 point turn because they're super careful to not scratch their old Mercedes, and they are unable to park nicely without going over the line into your spot. I would suggest parking on the road. As for the store itself... it's quite nice but it feels extremely crammed as there is so much in the aisle ways and shelves. Plus its a low ceiling compared to most modern spots. I would say that if it's busy, just don't bother with a carts as you can barely maneuver around the place. Just go with a hand held basket ... even then you'll still stand around waiting for most people to stop in the middle of the aisle for their personal convenience. It is clean and there are a lot of staff just taking care of each detail. That's a good thing. I do find this store has many great brands you can't find in most common groceries and it's meat, fish, and cheese section is very very comprehensive. For such a small space, it has more selection. But you pay for it... possibly because it's imported and higher quality but it still stings to see your favourite imported chocolate bar from USA be at $10. Or that balsamic vinegar at $40. As for service, I'm not sure if they're so overwhelmed that they dont see everyone or that they cater to the reoccurring favourites first. More than once I've been passed over for service. Sure... when you have their attention, they can be very nice and thorough. But for me, I walked out empty handed after waiting for a few minutes to only see other people get service. Oh well... I saved my money and used it to get great pizza next door. I dont think this place is really wanting everyone to shop there. With the lack of awareness of price numbering (no 4s!!), it's clear they dont care about the Asian population and their dollars. I mean, even Loblaws and Costco is in that cultural awareness space. Also, I dont think they really think young people should shop there too... I saw more catering towards the older generation. I wanted to visit this place since they renovated but I didn't have a chance until now. This supermarket is located at the busy corner of Avenue and Lawrence. It has a free parking lot at the back/side but space is tight and it's very busy. Inside, the place is clean and upscale. Each aisle are packed with specialty items that you probably won't find at Loblaws or Metro. The meats, fish and seafood, desserts and hot food prepared sections are very well done. They even have a very comprehensive cheese section. Then why the 3*? It has to do with the prices. Unless one is very well off, there's no way one can afford the prices and use Pusateri's as their everyday supermarket. I almost want to give up...it was a nightmare! The Parking of this Pusatreri's was so busy even on a weekday afternoon. I know it is free parking. The spots here were all so tight, and you have to squeeze through all these big delivery trucks blocking the lane ways. The store itself was great. I like how they have quite a few cashiers opened so there's no line at all to cash out! Good selections of gourmet condiments, tea and the hot table does have fantastic choices. If I could give 0 stars I would. Do NOT order anything online. I preordered pastries for Mother's Day and when I showed up they did not have them... the MANAGER told me to come back later. When I came back a few hours later, I was told that they cancelled my order - yet I had no email, phone call, text or refund. It's a beautiful-looking store, and I used to regularly shop at the Avenue Rd location. I now only shop at Pusateri's when there's a product I need that I can't get anywhere else - and that is rare. Today was one of those few and far between days when I popped in for something and I was reminded why I almost never go there anymore - absolutely terrible service. When I checked out today I gave a friendly hello to the checkout person. They barely acknowledged me and after I paid there was no "thank you", no eye contact, nothing. I've found this to be a common occurrence at Pusateri's and that is unlike the friendly interactions I experience at their main competitor and other grocery stores I frequent. read more

Prices are ridiculous here in a store that doesn't offer everything you're looking for on your list. Non GMO? Sometimes... But be ready to pay double for those items. The shopping experience here is always unfulfilled and too often you are forced to go elsewhere just to complete your shopping list and nobody should have to pay 25 percent more for an item you can get a block down the street. A sale price on something would be nice to see once in a while which seems to be a mere fantasy at this place. Go elsewhere. read more

I'll skimp on some things in this life, but groceries is not one of them. I love Pusateri's (Yonge/Lawrence location) and I'm not ashamed to admit it! Here's a tip: don't buy your household "staples" here...paper towels, detergent, potato chips. It's true they're more expensive than getting the exact same things down the street at No Frills. But come here for the following: -Above-average quality fruits, veggies and herbs, year-round -First-rate butcher with many beautiful cuts of meat, fine steaks and pre-marinated yummies -Excellent prepared foods: soups, salads, good chili, tomato/meat sauce, fresh and frozen pastas, mac n cheese, awesome ready-to-eat BBQ chickens, other hot dinners/sidedishes that change daily, sandwiches, etc. The prepared section isn't nearly as extensive as Summerhill Market (the south of st. clair location) but quite suffiicient and all of it is good quality, though expensive for sure! -AMAZING bakery/dessert section with a dedicated chocolate shop and a nice selection of coffees and teas as well -Awesome selection of sauces and high-end olive oils -The best fresh-squeezed OJ and other fresh juices -Great deli counter, cheese section, breads (Ace, Harbord, Thobors, yum) and crackers/flatbreads -Fun things you simply can't get at regular grocery stores! I hope everyone that shops here knows that they charged 30.00 for lysol wipes during a global pandemic. This was also the same week that massive layoffs and closures occured all over the country. If that is the type of store that you support , that is on you. When this pandemic is over I will make sure I won't step foot in this store again. We do not go to Pusateri's often. The selection of gourmet cheeses, coffees, chocolate and exotic fruit seems quite breathtaking. Unfortunately, on three of the last four occasions we have been to their stores, we have found that some of the food we purchased was stale or mouldy. Yesterday, April 10th, we purchased some trail mix at their Avenue Rd. outlet. It was already slightly stale when we served it to company despite the high price. Previously, we have twice purchased a soft French walnut cheese, and found it to be mouldy. On the first occasion, staff at the Bay St. store in Yorkville gladly gave us a refund. On the second occasion, I had no time available to return the food. I wrote an e-mail, but did not receive any reply. Not all prices in the store are clearly marked. I was therefore surprised to discover that a 100 gram El Camino chocolate bar which is routinely sold for 4.49 at Loblaw's costs 6.49 at Pusateri's. It is to be hoped that the management reads this review and others like it, and take some action in response to criticism. read more

No. You can buy a little takeout thingy of sushi here for over $20. Why do that when you can buy like four of the same thing from Loblaws for the same price? Ok ok, so Pusateris is high quality or whatever. Big deal. I might actually be convinced to like this place if it weren't for the fact that someone I know worked here. At the end of the day, every day, she was instructed to throw away all of the bread they have. None of the cashiers can take any of it home. If they don't sell it within the day, they're discarded. Something is Seriously Wrong at Pusateri's I was checking out at the Avenue Rd. store location and noticed that an item scanned $6.49, instead of the price of $4.99 posted on the shelf. I brought it to the attention of the cashier, who told me the price is $6.49, because it scanned that amount. She spoke in a rude and condecending manner. She didn't offer to have the shelf price checked, so I had to ask her. She sent a clerk to check the shelf and of course it read $4.99. She never apologized, but told the clerk to change the price. I told the cashier that the customer is not always wrong. To which she said sarcastically, the customer is always right. I wrote a letter to the president, which was intercepted by an employee at head office. She emailed me back with the usual platitudes about how they take my comments very seriously. I will not shop there again and now shop at McEwan's. Better food and better attitude. read more

Before venturing to Pusateri's you need to know 2 things about it: 1. The North location is the real location 2. It is expensive That said, I don't care if I have to be waved in by a police man (this is true by the way, the place does have a police man on Avenue road stopping traffic for the place), or if I have to wait 3 hours for a parking spot while some Louis Vuitton vixen chats to her pool-boy on her cell phone before pulling out, or if some precocious princess yells at me for taking her mommy's number at the deli, I'm going to Pusateri's and I'm going to like it! Part of the Pusateri's experience is hating every, single moment that you're there on one level but at another level being absolutely amazed by their goods. Not to be confused with Whole foods that tricks you into believing their food is actually tasty and of good quality, Pusateri's is far and away the best fine foods store in Toronto. Their deli is spectacular (try their homemade turkey breast it's incredible), their produce is beautiful and their meats are Grade A. I have yet to try a disappointing prepared food from that section of the store. Pusateri's also has an extensive and intricate bakery, interesting cheese department, and everyday grocery section. The store is amazing! Even for those on a budget it's worth going shopping for that extra special night or if you are in the mood to splurge. read more

They have a few good things but they have an addiction to selling you stale rotten foods you can never trust what you're buying is edible.

The good - large and specialized selections of everyday food (anything from peanut butter to different types of oils to salt and spices... the list goes on -*note - if you need to buy a specialty item for a gift, this is the grocery store you look to), really good and large variety of prepared foods (sandwiches, salads, meatloaf, pasta etc.) The bad - price is RIDICULOUS (for regular items the price is sometimes double what you would find at a regular grocery store), store layout is a crowded messy maze, stale items as they carry so much random inventory, and worst off is the clientele - avenue road and lawrence is filled with a lot of rich housewives with absolutely no tact or etiquette and they all think they run the world. The stop in the middle of aisles in their yoga gear and bleached hair while they yap on their cell phones, run you over with their carts while they yap on their cell phones, cut into line at the deli/fresh food/dessert counters as they yap on their cellphones... you get the point. Usually wouldn't be so annoying, but this place is so crowded and small and rammed all the time you may have the urge to trip someone while you are there :) Service is decent and friendly most of the time. Not worth coming to buy your regular groceries at but if you are close by and need a specific rare item then go in and out as fast as you can ~ read more

That's right-- instead of spending 2 hours of your valuable time cooking from scratch OR dropping six figures on a nice meal in the neighborhood, strike a balance. example: prepared Smoked salmon Fritatta with goat cheese & asparagus served w/ rice-wrapped rhubard and ricotta rolls. Reheated in the over 15 minutes, happy fiance all evening. Total cost $14. if you are claustrophobic or grumpy, i don't recommend shopping here as cart wars could ensue. read more

I used to work here, DO NOT GO. The owners (the pusateris) are basically con artists. They take a lot of low quality ingredients and mark them up. They treat the employees horribly and take huge cuts for themselves. The quality of ingredients is not that good. I remember I had a cookie from subway and a cookie from pusateris. This location was my favourite when I used to live at Yonge and Lawrence. Once walking in you immediately need to grab one of their CUTE shopping carts! This is the reason why I kept going there.. they are the best thing thats ever happened.. if you shop here you understand what im talking about. PLUS! The store is so small, and the isles are so small these carts are very handy! :) Also, alot of the food at Pusateries is imported or even made infront of your eyes! I used to buy mini pizzas and they make them custom for you and seal them and you can put them in your freezer or put them in the oven right away when you get home. They also have a WICKED chocolate/bakery section with TONES of yummy treats! The pre-made food in the deli? isle is AMAZING TOO! They have seasoned Salmons, Steaks ect which are pricey but VERYVERY worth it. Typing this now makes me want to go buy a steak and grill it right now!! Mmm.. Even the cashiers are EXTREMLY friendly. There is always someone bagging your grocceries for you and can even help bring them to your car for you. I swear, people come to Pusateri's just because they think they are celebrities.. you will always see people with their sunglasses on acting like big shots. Lived right next door for years. I got really tired of being able to carry my 74$ groceries on my pinky. EXPENSIVE. And the pushy west of Avenue lady's... The parking scene is awful. So bad in fact that a cop is there on busy days to keep tempers from flaring up. I go only when desperate for high end ingredients. Once every other year I forget to plan ahead. I would rather bake my own cake than wait to by one of these. Hey! if someone is doing the shopping for you and you have lots of dough then this may be the place for you. But not me. read more

Putting price aside for a moment, what i love about Pusateri's is the breadth and depth of options. You just don't get 15 different types of mustard, or 10 different types of proscuitto at other regular stores. But where Pusateri's falls short is in the obvious over pricing of certain products, balery freshness issues, and really terrible store layouts - jam packed. In the end, Pusateri's will never be my neighbourhood every day store, but will definately remain a store i go to, to pick up particular items. read more

Its a great store...eye candy for gourmets and gourmands. There are actually customer who do all their shopping there. I guess it depends on your bankroll and how much you value a deal..... The displays are beautiful, especially the fresh meats. They have a large assortment of packaged good much like Jensen's in Palm Springs. Its beautiful to look at. The meat is well aged, but really no better than at a good quality meat store. The packaged goods are fine but they are found elsewhere, and in quantity in the many ethnic stores in Toronto, and 'burbs. But its a nice snooty store, a window on the good life. In our current economic conditions one must wonder if it is as busy as in previous so-called "good times". The one item I recommend and that I use for all my other shopping elsewhere is to purchase the black re-usable shopping bags. It's claustrophobic, and you may faint at the price of the organic mangoes, but it's... nice. Really nice. I love going in. New store looks great. Ideal grocery store for specialty foods. Like Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar. Their frozen pre made products look good but I've never tried them. Mainly because I cook my own from scratch. Very helpful staff on the Oils and Vinegars. Parking is always tight. read more

So this is the flagship store for Pusateri's? I hope it doesn't set the standard for the rest of the stores, because it was shut down temporarily in 2011 (I think) over health violations. There could not be a more prime location for a grocery store, high-end or otherwise. There is just zero competition at this scale anywhere nearby. Across the street is Havergal College, an all-girls private school, one of the top in Canada. The surrounding neighborhood is an affluent location in Toronto, this store was set for success. I never had any trouble with parking even with my truck, but must mentioned that despite the small space allotted for vehicles, still there are people who insist on waiting with their cars by the entrance, which blocks off an significant amount of space for flowing traffic. It always seems that it is a Benz or a Continental GT too. The store manages to appear small, despite being rather large. Dimly lit, there seems to be more staff servicing the prepared cook section than any other. The arrangement of the isles doesn't make much sense, and I always forget where what item are located. I have never came here with the purpose of buying fresh vegetables, thus I can't recall ever seeing that section. There is an excellent selection of fresh juices, in fact; the juices here even tastes better than any other locations. I have no idea why this is. Maybe because they have teenage girls to sell to thus more sugar, most likely this is not the case. Just a random guess. Problem is, this is location is SO boring. There is nothing that would attract me to this store in particular. I travel all across the GTA to experience different grocers, and I only come here when I am in the area, and without any options. I can't imagine any reason why I should travel specifically to this Pusateri's. It is among one of the most unremarkable grocery stores within the GTA. If I am forced to think of one reason to come here, it would be for the comedy. I always get a good laugh at the framed painting of Gale Weston at the check-out. read more

Used to be awesome, but since they moved into their renovated store, not so much. To start on a positive note: at awfully high prices, their bakery selection (mainly brought in and marked UP) is very good, with scones, patisseries, cakes, pies, cookies and the like. Fresh meat and produce look fine. I am not a fish eater. So for me the real change and disappointment is notable in their prepared food counter - AWFUL. Example 1 - juicy looking slices of flank steak: tough and disgusting, had to throw it away, not having a canine to serve the dog's dinner where it belonged. Example 2 - boneless breaded chicken "nuggets": AWFUL: refrigerator taste even when heated, you can taste the oil in which it was fried, nasty breading, un-crisp and blah in your mouth, and not even well trimmed inside with horrid little bits of fat and/or gristle. SHAME on them - Popeye's or KFC infinitely superior for half the price. Other examples of prepared food that used to be great and now are NOT: EX 1 - Meat Lasagne: used to be best in city, now sort of a nasty harsh tomato sauce, doughy-tasting pasta, same tomatoey flavour ground (and I mean GROUND) meat. Blah cheese. Price way up. Nasty. EX 2 - They used to have a great quesadilla - chicken and cheese. Some "consultant" got them to add jalepeno - no option offered. Well, some folk like jalepeno flavour, fine. I don't mind it. But what's inside the quesadilla now are NASTY STRINGS/SHARDS of UNCOOKED RAW jalepeno, UGH. Anyway, their cashiers are really nice; their managers somewhat helpful but obviously have no real control over what's produced. I ain't going to go out of my way any more only to have the privilege of obscenish prices. when I can go to Summerhill Market (for example) and pay merely high prices for home-cooked-tasting foods, Don't like everything there, but it seems consistent, and their cashiers and carry boys give exemplary service, as do their floor people who insist on taking you to what you're looking for, not just pointing at it. Ida, you should be ashamed of what's happened to your flagship store. And a PS: the much-vaunted Pizza Joint charges on the other side of the parking lot charges Pusateri prices for at best indifferent pizza. Not worth the trip either. read more

I have continued to be disappointed with Pusateri's over the years and stopped in last week just after their grand opening following the devastating fire that they had. Sadly, nothing has changed. Customer service is still not very good. I waited in line at the butcher counter, and once my number was called, asked the butcher if he could cut me a rib roast of about 3 lbs. He looked me straight in the eye and said "no, I can't cut one that small." I was floored. There was a huge rib roast there and one section was already cut off (it was too small for me as it was only 2 lbs) and yet the butcher said he coudln't cut off 3 lbs for me. At $16.99/lb I am astounded and insulted. Bruno's has no problem cutting a rib roast to order and Loblaws, Metro and Longo's always offer to cut to order based on the size of roast I want. Sadly, it appears Pusateri's isn't interested in someone buying a small (3 lb) roast at a premium price. I've had other issues over the years -- dry, crumbly cake that is not supposed to be dry and crumbly is a most recent issue and I've always let their customer service dept (via email to info@pusateris.com) know of any concerns and never once have received an acknowledgement or reply. I was hoping things had changed now that Pusateri's is back on Avenue Road but sadly the lack of customer service is still evident. Prices are very high as well -- well above other high end grocery stores in the neighbourhood (for example Summerhill Market) and while they offer lots of choices of different types of foods, they are still falling short in my opinion. Hopefully they will put a focus on customer service and freshness of products going forward. Having milk and some other perishable products (cream cheese) displayed with best before dates a day or two ahead is unacceptable. Parking is no better than it was in the past. If you do decide to go, go early in the morning or later in the day -- 3 pm seems to be the worst time during the week. read more

Was looking forward to the reopening, but was very disappointed. Feels like the same old place with a fresh coat of paint. And to make it worse, the hot table is not as good. Now the "old location", which had issues but was at least better than the others, is just like the other locations. Nothing special. Although you wouldn't necessarily do your groceries here, we were picking up basic saltine crackers. You wouldn't think you'd need to check the expiry date, but I did. Store opened November 18. We were there November 19. Cracker's expiry date was November 4. 2016. All of the boxes. If you cannot get that right, how do we trust other things? This place is off. It's not what it was. Fruit is poor. Looks nice but doesn't taste equally as good. Veggies lack. Nice on outside but sometimes rotting inside. We all know it's overpriced. Ok a dollar or two more for quality but when I find the same for exact product for $5 less?? The meats are excellent. That's about it. Since that Sam guy was bought out the produce is not the same. Since the infestations, it's gone downhill. I shopped there all the time. I wanted quality. One thing for sure. The kids that work there are so polite, friendly & helpful. I've had enough. Ok, I'd admit it! Part of me actually goes into this place to humour myself and the other goes in to oogle the raw meat section. My hair salon is down the street and since it's a nightmare to get up there via transit I take advantage of my time when I am there on a Saturday. There's a cop directly traffic into the parking lot, a parking lot FULL of Mercedes Suvs mind you. You will never see another store that can sell pasta for 15.00 a bag. If you have ever been there in the summer you may see the display near the cash register of $100.00 square watermelons. Impulse buy anyone? There's a huge deli counter of prepared foods and it's rammed with people who are willing to pay. I stood there one day and watched girl-with-too-much-money flip out on the girl behind the counter because she coudn't just buy HALF of a dill sauce topped piece of salmon. We're talking about an itsy bitsy piece! They have your normal grocery items too although priced higher than your standard Loblaws or Metro. They do have a great bakery section that I have succumbed to on one occasion or two. If you're ever in the area, pop in for some cheap (or not so cheap, depending on how you look at it)entertainment. read more

Challenges with traffic and parking, crowded dark, narrow aisles etc. Clearly they have so many patrons who love them that management is not concerned about customer experience.
