The prices are fair, however simple things require a Dr visit which is a $ pricier visit. Example: anal expression requires a Dr visit which shouldn't in my opinion, since it's done as routine for some doggies. The Dr is knowledgeable but try to be mindful that this is still a business and will recommend you to do things that are not 100% needed. For example, my dog got skunked and his tail was down for a few days. Instead of telling me that this would go away on its own, they recommended a shot. We didn't realize it was just a few days until his tail would start feeling better and it would come up on its own. read more

Hank, my 3 lb 8 month old teacup chihuahua. I never met the doctor in person, I know when Covid it was ok...we would pass our pup back through the receptionist window or door...then the vet would call my cell from inside without ever talking to me in person... it's located in the back of a pet store and their services are too expensive for the quality of the office.... Since day one , Hank was one month old when I bought him. He's 8 months now- I've been telling the vet he doesn't drink water and I can't get him to take fluids- the vets reply "just make sure he has accessible water bowls".......yeah obviously- 7 months later the vet tells me Hank is dehydrated and now I have to get him a daily IV to prevent dehydration....thanks doc when I told you this 7 months ago...... So my main problem as to why I WILL NEVER BRING HANK BACK TO PUTNAM ANIMAL WELLNESS AGAIN is because: I took Hank to get neutered. As they just neutered him, they asked if they could extract all his baby teeth too at the same time. My 3 lb puppy you want to cut his balls off and rip his teeth out for no reason? Just seemed liked they wanted the money and didn't care about Hank. When Hank returned from his neuter- they didn't have an e-collar small enough for him- I don't approve of e collars anyway and they charged me for it of course, they could have called me and asked me. They also charged me for his micro chip which I didn't even fully understand what a micro chip is? It's not to track him which I thought it was for.... The big e collar they put on him traumatized him and caused him more pain then the neuter. It was tied on with medical guard that was cutting into his skin and restricted his breathing and crushing his esophagus. By the time we got home from the vet- his breathing became rapid and tears and snot were pouring out of his eyes and nose. I had to cut the gauze off with scissors and Hank quickly slipped the collar off his head. Immediately you could see the life return in him. He was slowly suffocating and they told me to keep it on him for two weeks. He would have died because the collar was too large for him he could even reach food or water besides how they tied it on him. The surgical site looked a mess! I couldn't tell where his stitches started or ended. And one stitch looked so tight there is a tiny hole in the side of his penis now. It's been 9 days since his neuter and the hole where the tight stitch is, is very red and irritated. I will be taking him to another vet for now on. I will have them look at hanks neuter and fix whatever you did to my poor pup. I will also have hanks neck examined to make sure you didn't cause any major problems with his throat by strangling him with gauze. read more

They hand u a price list of 300-450 and later make u go and look for any reason to make the bill go to $1000+ (any excuse, vaccines, thyroid blood word, cut the nails, etc). Their prices r more expensive than any other local vet after all with the difference that scheduling here or the process takes u a month bc they make it difficult (so the can charge) while in other vets at that price u get it done in a week. All of my dogs and I love Dr. John and Becky. We have been going there for years. Everybody is very professional but also friendly, and really seems to care. They could not have been nicer when one of our pups was at the end, and we were also able to be there and hold her even tho we usually speak over the phone at appointments since covid. I have a lot to say about this place...I brought my kitten there for a pre-surgery (spay) check-up and was told to bring her vaccination/medical records (she had gotten everything she needed and just needed spaying). I get to the appointment and check in, and they tell me it will be about 30 minutes and that I'll get a call when my kitten is done. Not even 10 minutes later they apparently called, but my phone didn't ring so I got an attitude from staff about not answering my phone. Then, the vet working with my kitten came out and asked about different shots/vaccines and if she needed them or not, to which I responded I wasn't sure because I had given them all the paperwork. They ended up doing blood work and administering one shot (with my consent) and I ended up paying over $100 or a visit I was expecting to pay less than $50 for. IT GETS BETTER THOUGH. I booked Chai's (my kitten) spay appointment for January 2021 and was told the fee would be $100, plus the $35 microchip fee. The week of Chai's appointment on Monday, I get an email with an estimate of $326 for the procedure, with a breakdown of added services that I never asked for, and a spay fee that increased from $100 to $150. I called for three days, multiple times each day, to speak with someone about it, and got no response until Wednesday (2 days before the appointment) informing me that their prices increased on January 1st. SIDE NOTE: Their clinic is located in the back of a pet store, and I had to call the pet store on Tuesday to figure out if the clinic was even open, to which the employee responded, "Yeah...they come in at weird hours and they're here now but don't seem to be answering the phones." *The clinic had put their answering machine to "Our office is closed" for the 3 days I tried to contact them, even though they were open.* I thought about the price change after I hung up and called again to ask if they could honor the $100 fee since that's what I was told when I booked. It took them 5 hours to respond to my text (after getting an automated text that they were unable to answer the phone) saying they weren't able to do that. When I expressed concerns and disappointment regarding their lack of communication and willingness to do the right thing, they canceled my appointment without my authorization...at 9:30pm, two nights before Chai's surgery. Long story short, this clinic is unprofessional, unwilling to help customers, and extremely rude. If I could give it 0 stars, I would have. I would absolutely not recommend this vet for several reasons. But to start off, I do see there are many positive reviews but most are from several years prior. Today I had an appointment with my cat and the practice was late seeing her. Prior to being called in for service I was questioned by the Receptionist and asked if my cat wanted additional treatment even before being seen by the vet. Finally when my cat got called in I was told she would go in to see the vet and not myself. This is not an emergency visit but a routine visit so why can't I be there with my cat when she's being examined? This is after all a stressful situation for your pet. If the reason is for COVID precautions then shouldn't staff and visitors alike be wearing masks. No one was. When I called back to speak with the office manager I was told to send an email. I have been going here for years with my rescue animals and my last experience was so bad I will never go back. I let it slide that every time I brought in a dog to get altered they would get kennel cough. I figured having all the rescue animals in at once was the reason (even though mine were quarantined appropriately.) This was the final straw. He wanted To charge me more (over $900) because he said the dog was aggressive. He wasn't even there he was on the phone and the dog was on meds, muzzled and acting perfect. He was just afraid. Vet policy is pet parents do not see the vet, Dr Lesloe John. Covid protocol still in effect???? Receptionist asks reason for visit, asks the symptoms, then takes your pet into the office. There is a sliding window where 1 to 2 staff members sit. You wait outside of the office while your pet is supposedly being seen by the Doctor.. he calls your cell phone and confirms the symptoms. Twenty minutes later, I am given back my dog, given an invoice for $376, which I paid and medication-a probiotic and equivalent of imodium for dogs. I am told (this was Friday) I would receive a call back on Monday with blood and fecal test results. Suffice to say that I did not receive blood results until following Wednesday, never received fecal test results (which I paid for) and finally received a call back from the vet 8 days later. He asked how I was and I politely answered that I was annoyed that it took 8 days for a vet call back (not at all unreasonable to be upset at that juncture) ..Yet the vet, Dr John, told me that I "sounded 'angry' and should call back when I was no longer upset" I asked for the diagnosis and test results of the stool test and he replied..."Dogs get diarrhea... that's just what happens with dogs"... I wish I were kidding... No diagnosis! The degree of unprofessionalism is totally unacceptable, the amount of time spent calling the office multiple times with no call back along with the whole cloak and dagger behind closed office door policy is ridiculous... If the vet is covid concerned, why can't he speak to the pet parent thru the sliding window as his staff does? This whole experience has made me doubt that there is even a vet on premise... and are the examing rooms sanitary? X-rays we're never produced. Went to new vet and in fact my dog has hip dysplasia which Leslie said he never had. Love the communication at this location especially compared to the last clinic I went to. There's options to either call or text to get any questions or concerns needed at this clinic. Apon arrival, I checked my cat in & sat a few minutes before getting called in. The nurse came out & said only my cat can go & not the owners. Then minutes later I got a call from the veterinarian with him asking me questions about my cat's concerns over the phone. $400+ later I received a bill stating what the doctor did to my cat. My concern is, I wish I was able to explain everything to the doctor in person instead of over the phone over a quick call. I felt very rushed. After two shots, an ear cleaning & his vaccines, my cat was good for about two weeks then after that his ears were back to normal. Itchy & irritating him all over again. Dr Leslie John took care of my cat. My son brought my cat in and dr John was honest from The beginning saying that the cat would have to be sedated to be treated. I knew this from the beginning he also checked with us about whether or not we wanted additional bloodwork because he told us right up front that it was getting more expensive for the multiple problems that my cat had.
