I called the vet and they referrerd us to VCA Shoreline emergency center. I called them and they told us to come right in. When we got there they took Gracie out of the car and immediately assessed her. Unfortunately she had Hemangiosarcoma a very aggressive cancer which shows no signs or symptoms until it's to late. There was a tumor in her abdomen which burst that afternoon. Unfortunately we had to put her to sleep. VCA Shoreline Veterinary Emergency Center made an extremely difficult situation a little easier. Thank you, The Zacchia's

We were concerned that our cat, Molly, had been losing weight and eating less. When I found…read moremultiple piles of foamy vomit, we brought her in (around 6pm). We waited for hours in the waiting room, during which they took her vitals and told us they were normal. They finally took her away from us to be examined (which we didn't like), and then suggested bloodwork. Again, they took her, saying bloodwork would take a couple of hours. We went home for something to eat and called them back to check on Molly. They wanted to hold her there until they had the bloodwork results, but we told them we'd prefer to take her home while we waited. They resisted until my daughter called them to reinforce that we wanted to bring her home. When we picked her up around 11:30pm, we were only allowed to meet with a nurse, not the veterinarian. We were told that nothing on her bloodwork seemed too concerning, but there was evidence of infection and they'd give her an anti-nausea injection and fluids, and gave us antibiotics to administer at home. From the moment she crawled out of her carrier, Molly was a mess, walking unevenly, zombie-like, staring straight ahead. Her demeanor had been normal when we took her in. Called back to ask if she'd been sedated, they said no. Research indicated other people's cats had a bad reaction to the anti-nausea (Cerenia), but that it usually passed in 24-48 hours. We waited all the next day. Her condition did not improve. Got in to Oronoque Animal Hospital in Stratford at noon the next day. The veterinarian gently examined Molly in front of us, walked us through all of Shoreline's bloodwork results in detail, then performed an x-ray that showed a mass in her chest plus intestinal issues. She then arranged for us to immediately get an ultrasound at another hospital and called us before we'd even left there to explain the findings. Our cat was very, very sick with multiple internal masses. We brought her home and she died at home that night, less than 48 hours later after being discharged from Shoreline. If Shoreline had done any imaging (we asked about it, they didn't offer it to us), they would have found that she had severe issues and we could have spent the next two days making her comfortable and arranging euthanasia at home. Instead, we spent one day waiting for the Cerenia to leave her system as she declined, and the next day driving around to get a proper diagnosis. She died at home that night, before the euthanasia appointment, and it was a terrible death that my family will never forget. $1,100 worth of charges for an exam and bloodwork from Shoreline and we got sent home with antibiotics from a discharge nurse. Not even allowed discussion with the veterinarian when we picked her up. "That's not our protocol." They should be ashamed of themselves.

What an incredible group of people!…read more My dog is susceptible to pneumonia and when he had a wet cough on a Sunday, I knew it couldn't wait for his primary vet on Monday. In the past we went ton other emergency vets and unfortunately it was always a long wait, you were away from your dog the entire time, and they wouldn't release your dog to you until after you paid. VEG is different than all those places. We were seen immediately and while they do have an open concept ER, they gave us a private room just in case. The nurse (Diana) and the vet (Dr. Schwartz) were all incredible. They took such good care of our dog and us! They allow you to be with your pet during X-rays which I found amazing. No paying first then waiting for your pet to be discharged. You're as hands on as you're comfortable being. Amazing place.

What is there to say besides don't trust this place with your pet, your time or your money…read more To say we had a negative experience would at this point be an understatement. The behavior this practice has exhibited has been avoidant, evasive and disappointing. I called distressed after my dog was having complications healing from surgery after a lipoma removal. We arrived on a busy Sunday and were taken at the end of a triage. During our time there I voiced to MULTIPLE techs that my dog was bleeding through his gauze. 2/3 responses were a deadpan stare and the words "ok". It took 3 times of me asking/ pleading for someone to listen to me. Even then I was armed with loose gauze and a wee wee pad. When we were finally seen I was so relieved i let this all fall away. I was so happy my pet was taken care of I went home following their orders and protocol. The next day I realized all the sutures at the site had fallen out and we were back at square one after spending hundreds of dollars. Naturally I was upset and placed a call to the location. I was placed on an infinite hold 3 times with no answer until i called from my friend's phone to which they picked up immediately. I have been calling every day since Monday with not a single person giving me a call back or without any financial compensation for the negligent job they did. I have given them since Monday to give me a call back and fix this. I've called every day without a call back. So if you don't care about your pets or spending unnecessary money this is the place for you!

We had an extremely unacceptable…read moreexperience at Central after bringing our dog in three times within 24 hours for persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, and refusal to eat. Although he has IBD, we knew this was something much more serious. During our first visit, we waited over five hours while our dog continued vomiting without treatment. We repeatedly had to ask staff for medications and fluids. Dr. Chen diagnosed him with pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, and colitis, and also discovered a pancreatic nodule that we were told could require monitoring for cancer. Despite these serious findings, she stated our dog was stable enough to send home. We later discovered he had not been given the pain medication we were told by her he would receive, and his discharge paperwork was never finalized by her, creating confusion about his medications due to discrepancies. Sending him home with an extremely painful, time sensitive condition without any pain medication was beyond negligent. Our dog's condition continued to worsen, so we returned later that night for pain management. We were again told he was stable enough to go home. Only a few hours later, he woke up lying in blood and feces. When we called, we were told this was "normal" with pancreatitis, but we knew something was seriously wrong and brought him back for hospitalization. During our third visit, we were told there was a critical emergency causing delays and that we would likely be seen around 8 a.m. While waiting, our dog continued vomiting and leaking blood in the waiting room. Later, the front desk informed us there was no ongoing critical case and that staff had instead been told we had agreed to wait for the morning team--something we never agreed to. A nurse then acknowledged that the bleeding "wasn't good," directly contradicting what we had been told over the phone. Then there was our interaction with the third vet, Dr. Wells. After waiting all night while our dog's condition continued to decline, she entered the room and asked us to explain what had happened. As I began answering her question, she abruptly interrupted me and repeatedly said, "Stop, stop, stop. Stop complaining," before I had even finished explaining my dog's condition. Instead of listening to a concerned pet owner whose dog was experiencing a medical emergency, she immediately became confrontational and dismissive. When I told her not to interrupt me, the interaction escalated further. Rather than focusing on my dog's care, she argued with us and created an unnecessarily hostile environment. When I told her if she could not handle our conversation and just wanted to keep arguing with us that she needed to go get another vet, she denied allowing us to deal with another vet. Instead, she placed a treatment estimate of more than $3,000 on the table and left the room after telling us we needed to "talk to her civilly," despite her own unprofessional conduct throughout the interaction. She really seemed to be having a serious mental health episode. Dr. Wells demonstrated a level of unprofessionalism, poor judgment, and lack of empathy that was completely unacceptable for someone caring for sick and vulnerable animals. Her communication and demeanor destroyed any confidence we had in leaving our dog under her care, which is why we made the decision to take him to another emergency hospital instead. Before we left, a nurse called us in another room to apologize for Dr. Wells behavior and we have since heard more terrible experiences people have had with her and this hospital. I strongly advise anyone seeking treatment for their animals to avoid this hospital and particularly the mentally unstable Dr. Wells at all costs. I also asked repeatedly to speak to an office manager. It has been over a week and no one has contacted me. It is evident to me by our experience as well as reading how they respond to their google reviews, this practice demonstrates a complete lack of care, concern, or accountability for how it operates and treats its patients.

Unfortunately, my dog was diagnosed with a heart murmur which I was unaware of, so they did not feel comfortable giving her the sedation she needed to take proper X-rays of a possible hip or lower back injury, which was a bit concerning. We did have a long wait, but to be fair, it was a rough night there and there were pets there with more significant injuries, so I appreciated their prioritizing them. They were able to administer pain meds though, which helped my dog feel much more comfortable overnight until I get her in to see her regular vet the following day. The bill was a bit high for just a preliminary evaluation, a basic cbc, and one shot of pain killer but it was worth having some peace of mind that my dog was seen and in far less discomfort overnight. I would definitely go back if I needed to, as the care she received was prudent and they were honest with me about their concerns about the risk of sedation for my particular dog.
