I'm putting a one-star for numerous reasons. This might be the only review, but there might be…read moremore. I did enjoy the part about starting to live independently. However, CLE is a joke. They are trying to scam you into several thousand dollars to get all the independence you need, but keep reading. You will regret paying an outrageous amount of money. Don't stop reading this review because this will "rethink" your decision to apply to College Living Experience. Their staff is so disrespectful, dishonest, and rude. Like, I'm NOT kidding. They don't have the proper certification to take with individuals that have intellectual disabilities, and their budgeting class that Chris Sheppard is teaching is a joke. His LinkedIn specifies that he's not a major in budgeting, and his major is sociology. Look at the pictures. It says right on there that he's a sociology major. He should be a social coach, NOT budgeting. Chris was so mean and disrespectful when I had him for budgeting class. Every time I saw him, I wanted to run away from him. He said when I forgot my mask, I asked him, "should I wear a mask since I forgot?" He said, "I can't make you wear a mask like you are lying." Like, why would I lie about this?! Does he think I'm not adequately educated?! Also, Jennifer Golden is not a good social coach at all. I'm super disappointed that I didn't NOT get the help that I needed. She cursed at me when we had sessions together and felt very violated and disrespected. This is not how they should do business, which is NOT okay. In all honesty, go to Austin Community College and see Samantha Thomson, the Success Coach. She is way better than the people at CLE. They are honestly ripping you off. Samantha Thomson is a better success coach and is CERTIFIED with individuals with intellectual disabilities. She has a master which proves that she wants to work in the field. The company must be strict about getting certified to work since they are all intern practicum students. STAY AWAY FROM COLLEGE LIVING EXPERIENCE and find some resources at Austin Community College. They are a lot better and hands-on. DON'T SIGN UP at CLE; you will regret your decision.

Listen. I feel terrible for doing this. I've never left a bad review. But I feel like it needs to…read morebe said. Good concept. (Some) absolutely incompetent staff. The way I was treated here gave me emotional damage that took me upwards of a year to recover from. I really do believe in the good of human beings so I don't think it was done with ill intent but what poor handling. If you really want this experience for your kid, go to Denver or something. I'm sure it's better there.

API is insensitive and inconsistent. Their directors are abrasive and misinformed. During the 6…read moremonths leading up to my program, API did a TERRIBLE JOB at providing us participants with the needed information. They waited until the ABSOLUTE LAST SECOND to answer emails, phone calls, ect. In addition to this, my program director in the United States was indolent and while my director on sight in Granada was engaged, she was extremely forceful and impatient with me. I will never recommend this program.

I went to the API program in London this past Spring and it was everything but safe and fun. I was in a co-ed flat with two guys and three girls. I ended up being raped by one of the guys. When I opened up to the program to let them know that I felt unsafe and traumatized, they didn't care about what was best for me, a victim of rape, they only cared about what was best for their program. The only thing they did right was move him out of my flat, which was a given anyways. Other than that they said and did things that have haunted me everyday since. They moved him to another flat in the complex with a shared gym, lobby, and laundry room. Since we were living in the same complex I feared everyday that I would see him. I never wanted to leave my room and when I did do simple things, such as, laundry, I had to always have someone to accompany me. Things that they said were "we have to think about his mental health too, he's very distraught from this." This was devastating as they were acknowledging his "mental damage" for getting caught, but not mine of having my life ruined. I'm not trying to be dramatic when I say that. I get sharp flashbacks everyday of the situation to the point that I can't function and uncontrollably cry. This happened 5 months ago and it will be something that will stick with me for my whole entire life. Their lack of empathy and action towards the situation was repulsing. They covered all of their bases to make sure that they weren't legally in the wrong, but they were. They kept him in the program and verbally invalidated my experience so much that I questioned the goodness of the world. I was supposed to have a positive life changing experience as I was abroad. However, I can only say that my experience was negatively life changing. They said so many invalidating responses to me that I have tried to block them out of my mind as they were so damaging to my mental health. Every now and then their statements will creep back in and I will regress from my mental progress. I never went to the police because I thought "if this program doesn't believe me because of the lack of evidence then why would the police?" I want people to be aware that their code of conduct does not line up with their actions. I suggest that if you want to feel safe, find another program, or at the very least, do not agree to a co-ed dorm.
