I've been wanting to try an escape room for some time now and it did not disappoint. I did "The Path" room with 4 others and we had a blast. Such an awesome brain teaser and while we didn't finish in time we came oooo-so-close and I can't wait to come back and try another room. What fun! I happen to be visiting Colorado and planned to spend my days hiking. It snowed and rained for three days so I had to find indoor alternatives! After checking out their website and great reviews on Yelp, I booked the Crimson Storm for the five of us. This is my first escape room experience and I think I'm hooked! After a brief explanation of the rules and some helpful hits we were on our way to try and escape the clutches of the Crimson Storm and find the Crimson Heart before it was too late! Boom, we did it! Because I'm such a competitive person I may have had a different opinion if we didn't make it. I'm a horrible looser and probably would have "stormed" off and gave the Crimson Storm the finger on the way out (OK, probably not). DO IT...you won't be disappointed! read more

By far the best escape room we have ever done. The production quality was insane and we were shocked at some of the mechanics in the room. I had a little hiccup with my booking and their customer service was AMAZING. They emailed me back the same day with the issue fixed. We had such a great time and are already anxious to go back. WOW! Puzzle Effect (Formerly Denver Escape Room) is a WONDERFUL place to do escape rooms. I am a veteran. After the first time, I was hooked and couldn't get enough. I've probably done like 40+ rooms in my life (probably more if I really did track it!) and this place is top notch. Rooms have clever clues, and are really detailed and look very much like a scene in a play. The staff seems excited and ready to help. I liked Puzzle Effect in that they will chime in and help when you are running behind or look completely lost. So you get more or less help depending on your abilities. I've tried three rooms recently and all are super SUPER fun and clues make sense to what you need to use them for. I would go every day if I could... my least fave puzzle room is one in the Flatirons Mall (very basic) and this one is one of my favorites if not my favorite in the Denver area. I've tried Puzzah, Puzzle Effect-Denver, Themescapes, Boulder Escape Room, Enigma Escape Room, Conundrum, etc and this one is tops! OHHHH and my favorite thing is that you can secure the room for your group only. I hate being with strangers and just want to play with friends. The Grim Stacks room was awfully fun with my 16 year old nephew and 13 year old niece. It was challenging. We ran all over the place looking for clues, finding them but not understanding them, and missing obvious ones, but once we got into a rhythm and remembered how the clues offer themselves, we started making thrilling discoveries. With a whopping eight additional locations throughout the western United States, Denver Escape Room is presented in a highly branded and professional format. Their rooms and props are solidly built and well-maintained. Here, you don't get the option to ask for clues; rather, they give you clues when the gamemaster feels you need them. "If you don't hear from us for a while, you're doing just fine," our gamemaster told us before exiting the room. We divided our team into two and played against each other in the head-to-head game, Pipeworks. This setup is truly unique and makes for an especially fun time for competitive types. Denver Escape Room definitely has a commercial vibe to it, right down to the teenagers taking care of you, but it's a quality experience nonetheless. They often run deals on tickets and have special events, so it's worth subscribing to their newsletter and socials to get deals and win contests. read more

I came to Colorado just to play escape rooms, and out of the 15 games I played there, Denver Escape Room was the worst experience. First of all, they charge the same amount as other escape rooms in the area, the difference is that their games are completely outdated. There's little to no technology, mostly padlock based, and falling apart. We had to use force several times to get items open, and puzzles did not work properly, resulting us to loose time. And the rooms are just plain gross, grease on surfaces, dents scratches and stains on everything. The worst part was that all the rooms we played were singular, and they still charge a whopping $29 per person. I played rooms for $25 and got several rooms, and great technology and immersion. Overall, I think they should charge $10 for the experience they bring to their customers. The staff wasn't any better either, it seems like a bunch of kids on recess. We had to wait for them to finish talking about online streaming video games for them to even talk us. During the game we also were getting clues to things we have already had solved and opened,so it didn't seem like anyone was paying attention to our game. Unacceptable. Do not waste your money here, Denver Escape Room is comparable to $10 escape rooms in the area, but they charge double. read more

Denver Escape Room was a blast! I went to Denver Escape Room this past weekend with five other thirty-something friends to celebrate a birthday. We had a fantastic experience. The staff was gracious. They were not too intense or in our face either. They let the room do the talking. We went for Grim Stacks. It's the fantasy room where players need to break into a dark arts practitioner's book shop and free a magical creature locked away therein. This sounds somewhat cheesy, but once inside all preconceived notions are quickly forgotten in the intensity of the puzzles held within and the sixty minute clock on the screen constantly taunting players. Occasionally we got stuck and clues would be flashed on the time clock screen. My group finished the puzzle with 37 seconds remaining on our timer. There was some serious tension brewing as the time ticked down to the final couple of minutes. There is no way we would have completed the room had it not been for the game master's clues. This did not negatively affect our experience whatsoever. However, I can state assuredly we would have been very disappointed if we did not complete the task. Regardless, we still still would have enjoyed it. Necessary disclosure: Denver Escape Room is not in Denver. It's in North Glenn. This was actually more convenient for my party, but I could see people from Denver Proper taking issue with this. I cannot expect each room has replay value once players learn how to solve the puzzles, but luckily Denver Escape Room offers several constantly changing options. I do believe I will return for another room sometime in the future. read more

I played Pipeworks today competition style. It was a team of 3 friends against me. It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the theme and the decor. The puzzles were fun. It was mostly locks on boxes, but the actual puzzles were quite creative and unique. It is a very logical game. The way they structure the competition aspect is different than any I've seen before. It was a bit confusing at first and one moment was a little uncomfortable since it was a group of strangers. However, it would be a perfect game for a large group of friends that know each other to compete against each other. SO FUN! GO DO IT! Well, if you like puzzles. I honestly have not had that much fun in a long time. I felt like a kid again! Except for the fact that I would not have been much help as a kid. We got there and the place was a little difficult to find. They had signs posted everywhere but we went at night and the signs are black. We did see it though so we got there! The staff was very nice and answered all of my random, obnoxious questions because I always have some. While we were waiting, we were messing around with some brain teasers. I heard lots of yelling and banging so I was kind of freaking out but it wasn't scary. We did RESCUE which has a 3.3% success rate. We thought we were smart and were going to get out just fine. Even if it was our first one. NOPE! We technically did escape and saved the girl. Just 20 seconds after the bomb went off...as ghosts. This is definitely a fun puzzle game and I can't wait to do another one! Our whole groups loves thinking outside the box so I think that helped up out and hindered us as we were thinking too outside the box sometimes! read more

First let me start by saying that the guy at front desk was super nice and very helpful. He was awesome- I think his name was Caleb or Cody. I'm giving them 3 stars for a couple reasons- the room was fun but it was only 1 room. I've been to escape rooms where you get to escape to multiple rooms and it makes it fun and challenging. I only did one room so I am not sure how the others are constructed but mine was only one area. The second reason is that the office is so far from Denver proper and so we booked the room assuming it would be in downtown Denver only to find out that it's 30 minutes away in North Glen. If you're willing to drive that far, then going would be worth it if it's your first experience. read more

This was my first escape room and I had such a fun time we were pirates trying to get the treasure and we made it with two minutes and like 6 seconds left on the clock they give you about an hour 2 find all the keys and solve all the clues and it was so epic!! Had a blast with my group of friends! Signed up to do pipe works and ended up staying to try grim stacks. The six of us all had a really great time and both rooms were challenging in their own ways. Grim stacks was definitely harder than pipe works and we didn't use any hints for pipe works but received two hints for grim stacks. We solved both with about 13 min to spare in each. The gentlemen working were friendly and helpful and dealt with my group who were possibly a wee bit tipsy. Their WiFi was down so transactions took some time which slowed everything down but they were friendly and patient with their system. You receive a colored bracelet for each room you compete in which is cool as a keepsake. The location is a little difficult to find but if that's my only complaint than they are doing something right. Would definitely recommend! read more

There was ample opportunity for all four of us to contribute. We did escape but with only 2 minutes to spare! Renee was our escape helper. Rampancy: We booked this room after completing the super awesome Crimson Storm at the same location earlier in the day. We were told this was their hardest, and boy did it live up to that expectation. We learned a lot about escape rooms here that will be put into practice elsewhere (unfortunately, we cannot share it because it would give away some of the puzzles). But this was an enjoyable time and really we think if we had gotten a better start and used clues more wisely we would have finished this one. A neat thing they did here (which some we've lost didn't) was come in after and give us the hint where we were stuck and let us finish it quickly with their help. It gave a good idea of where we got stuck, and how much more we had to do. Theme:The theme in this was good and added to the confusion felt. Quality:Very well done room and everything inside worked as it should (even if we didn't like it not working how we wanted, it was as it should). Difficulty:OMG this was hard. There were several difficult puzzles that took some time, and just some great puzzles. Fun:This time we were paired with some experienced escape artists and it was nice that everyone could dive in and get to work. We had fun from start to finish, even though we also got frustrated. ======== Crimson Storm: The theme of this room was outstanding and really made the story come to life. Puzzles were fun and really drew on the theme. Our fellow captives also helped make this experience fun. As far as the puzzles, they weren't the hardest we've seen, but they were fun and really drew on the theme and there was something for everyone in the group to do at all times. I don't think I can say enough how much of a great experience this was and I'm sad I won't be back to Denver any time soon to do some of the other rooms. Theme:This theme was fantastic - really well designed and all of the props and puzzles really fit with the theme. This was one of the best examples I've seen of puzzles using the theme and not adding extra things just so there could be puzzles. Quality:Everything was well made, worked well, and made it easy to figure out what was next and to not get distracted from the experience. Difficulty:This was one of the easier escape rooms we've done, but had enough challenge to not be a gimme. Fun:We had so much fun here both because of the room and the other group that we were joined with (they were super positive and this was their first room so it really made it fun). A great escape room should sell you a memorable experience. My fiancé (I'm still having fun getting used to saying that) and I have done many rooms around the metro area and Denver Escape Room has been one of our favorites...and that was even before they gave us an experience of a lifetime. I was trying to come up with a fun way to propose to my girlfriend and called Denver Escape Room to see if they would be open to me popping the question at the end of an escape. I would have been happy with permission but they took this idea and made it something truly special. I was put in touch with Jack in Marketing and he developed an idea of shooting a "fake" commercial to promote the Crimson Storm room, creating an alibi on why we had the room to ourselves on a busy Saturday evening. In actuality, it would be a real "commercial" that Denver Escape Room could use to share our experience and that we could have as a keepsake. The day before our escape, I met with Sebastian, the Director at the Northglenn location, and he helped develop a plan of action, from getting the ring into the treasure chest to orchestrating how to sneak family into the conference room for a post-proposal surprise. Sebastian and the rest of the staff were amazing; it was clear that their priority was to make this as incredible and memorable for my fiancé and I as possible. They put in a massive amount of extra work to help me pull off this surprise and they asked for nothing in return. The plan went off without a hitch. The room was incredibly fun and the time flew by (which is saying something considering how nervous and distracted I was at the time). The puzzles were diverse and innovative and the room was immersive in its design. My fiancé was completely blown away by the entire surprise and says she couldn't have asked for a better experience. I am grateful for all the work and effort that everyone at Denver Escape Room put into making my under-developed idea become something that my fiancé and I will cherish forever. You guys are the best and we will definitely be back again and again. read more

My daughter's team went to this place for team bonding. We were able to call and get a same-day reservation for a large group. My daughter said the room was incredible. I don't want to give away too much but each room has a theme. My daughter said she truly felt like they went back in time because the room was so authentic. They not only had a great time finding clues to solve the mystery but had a nice debriefing after about teamwork and communication. It was a very positive experience. They have a comfy lounge area if anyone wants to wait around. They took payments quickly and overall went off without a hitch. So what is an Escape Room? An escape room is a kind of locked-room mystery combined with game-like puzzles and minor role-playing elements that puts you in a scenario where you and your friends try to work against the clock to solve problems and puzzles in time to either "Escape" or achieve the objective of the scenario. Note that at no time do they actually lock you in the room. If you want to, you can open the door and walk out. We played the "Rescue" scenario with some people from our board-gaming group and it was a big big hit. For gamers and social folks, this is a great evening out. Much more interactive than a movie, ballet, concert, or play and a good value for the money. The rooms are professionally assembled and explained. The one and only niggling detail that bothered me was that the music that was being played during our introduction to the session didn't match the scenario. Perhaps some dramatic music (maybe from a movie score) played at a relatively low volume would fit better than the country songs that were playing. That being said, my wife didn't even notice, and once we were into the room, that was long forgotten. All in all a great experience. We will definitely return. We have planned two more trips back to play the other scenarios being offered with different groups. Hopefully this time we can beat the challenge! read more

My son had talked about escape rooms before, but we didn't get around to trying one until he asked if we could go to celebrate his birthday. There are a few in the area, but he had heard great things about Denver Escape Rooms so we booked 'The Path' and 'Grim Stacks.' Both were excellent and quite different from each other. I was amazed at the complexity of the rooms and the puzzles. What a great evening to spend with my son! So much better than sitting in a movie. We went here last night and I thought the place was well laid out. The people who met us at the door were very friendly and they were helpful to get us started. The main problem we ran into was not knowing that we would need reading glasses, so we didn't bring any. That would be a disaster because you have to be able to see the dials on the locks to put in the combos. However, the people let us stop the clock and go to our car to get a cell phone to help magnify the numbers, but it didn't help much. That wasn't their fault, but the next time I will bring my reading glasses. Otherwise, I have 20/15 vision, but no good when you need to read small numbers. Having said that, I would recommend the experience and we will probably go back again in the future. read more

My crew has attempted escape rooms all over the country, and the room we completed at Denver Escape Room is easily one of the best we've ever seen. We completed the "Curse of the Emerald Seas" room, and we were very impressed by the overall narrative as well as the ingenuity and attention to detail present in the room. It's definitely a unique experience but one that you won't want to miss out on if you enjoy puzzles and/or mysteries of any kind. My boyfriend and I went and had a great time. We were with a group of four others and we escaped with 11 minutes to spare. We appreciated that the website told us beforehand what kind of challenge to expect if we wanted to enter the Hall of Fame - for the one we were doing (White Lie), the time to beat was something like 38 minutes, but of course it was a challenge just to finish the game at all. Our adult kids took us to Denver Escape. Our first time in one of these places. Daughter & her hubby had played in a different one in Denver and in Hungary. WHAT GREAT FUN! We managed to complete the escape with 8 minutes to spare; total group effort. They told us that only about 25% of players manage to successfully complete the "White Lie" game, so we all felt MUCH better about the time it took than before. (Gotta admit that I had thoughts of banging on the door with my fists yelling "Let us out!!", at least until the last few clues came together. Definitely recommend this to a group if you haven't played before. They have 2 other scenarios & tell us that they re-write the games about every month. Terrific concept! Helpful tip: get your GPS ready. It's in an office park near housing subdivision, and the signs on the street are tiny... could be easily missed. read more
