In the middle of a rural area...a lovely roadside stand...where you can smell the baking smells coming from the house nearby. A great selection of fruit pies with various tops...crumb or pie crust, maple cream sandwich cookies, jelly/jams, and whoopee pies in seasonal flavors like pumpkin, and traditional Whoopee pies. A roadside stop not to be missed!

Is it okay to say that I stopped by four of the five days on our vacation? The cookie melt in your mouth. The whoopie pies were a huge hit with the kids. My favorite was the blueberry pie (and jelly). So good. It was fun to stop by a roadside stand - while I'm from Maine, my Tampa grandbabies have never seen anything like this. Venmo as an alternative to cash only made it super convenient.

What a gem on the side of the road!! You might be skeptical when you hear the best apple pie you'll ever have will be from this stand, like I was, but it's true!

You know what's funny, my SO and I drove in the Grafton Notch area for some hiking and we passed by this stand on the side of the road that sold baked goods. Me: "Ooooh hey, you wanna check that out?" SO: "Huh?" --pass by the stand-- Me: "There were pies..." SO: "Oh" 2 years later. SO: --shows me an article about puzzle mountain bakery on his phone-- "Hey, we should check this out!!" Me: --reads it...takes a moment to realize....-- "Isn't that the bakery stand we passed by 2 years ago....?" SO: "huh?" Me: --looks closer...recounts the story-- "IT IS! And YOU DIDNT WANT TO STOP FOR IT!!!!" --Continues to make him feel bad about something he doesn't remember....-- And lo and behold we were able to make it on a trip up to see the falls a few weeks ago this summer. Our first stop didn't show any pies, just jam and...maple cream cookies. Never heard of them and we only had a $20. It's an honor system and not like you can get change for a 1.50$ cookie. We were able to scrounge up change from under the seat and from all over the crevices of the cars... Hooolllyyy it was soooooo good!!!! We went for a couple hours of trouncing around the park area and on the way back saw PIES PIES PIES!!! Each was $12 and lots of different flavors. We went for the apple and got two more maple cream pies. Surprisingly, I wasn't a fan of the apple pie. The SO loved it. I enjoyed that it wasnt super sweet but I think I just didn't like how soft the apples were. I would probably go for a different flavor next time myself. But the crust...is so. Damn. Good. May you randomly come across this wonderful road side bakery....and search youtube for the bear who stole a pie :)

The CUTEST bakery! I can't stop telling my friends about this place every time I discuss my Maine trip... We stayed in a lovely B&B in Bethel and decided to explore some local hiking trails. We saw that Grafton Notch State Park was a good option and passed this bakery on our way over. We had no idea what it was but saw cars stopping and people walking around, so we decided to check it out on our way back! We met the owner when we were browsing and he told us how his family's been running the bakery for 20+ years. It's wonderful that they use the honor code system for paying--it really emphasizes the small town vibe. We picked up a raspberry pie, maple cream cookies, and chocolate whoopie pies. I'm a big-time dessert aficionado and enjoyed all of the pastries. More than anything, though, I can't get over the super cute bakery just sitting in the middle of the road! Definitely check out this unique gem if you're in the area.

The most adorable pie stand!! Run by the honor system, they accept cash and venmo. We came across this driving by so obviously we had to stop! Bought a raspberry strawberry pie and took it back to our camp site and heated it up over the fire...delicous!! The maple cookie sandwiches are soooo goooodd too!! Before going home from our camping trip, we drove 30 minutes out of our way back to the pie stand to take some goodies home for our families. What a gem!

A few years ago, we stayed in Maine in the Fall to take in the foliage. We drove all over and came across this roadside stand. I loved it!!! We bought whoopie pies and a couple of other things and I took a great photo of it, which I intend to post here. I couldn't figure out where we were when we came across it. Of course, now I know it is near Newry. So worth the stop and we will look it up again next time we go that way!!

Adorable little stand with reasonably priced baked goods. I saw maple cookies, whoopie pies, and lots of pies the day I stopped by. Everything was wrapped nicely or in a plastic container. I tried only the whoopie pie. It was tasty and moist, but a smidge sweet. I have been ruined by Two Fat Cats in Portland, ME. There was some confusion as to where to put the money. The metal can is about 4ft tall and to the far right, not very close to the stand.

This bakery-café…read morehas quickly become one of my favorite destinations I'd happily drive hours just to visit again. The breads and pastries here are absolutely outstanding. Their Anadama bread was rich and flavorful, with a perfect crust and texture that kept me coming back for more, and the sourdough bagels were simply too good to pass up ; crisp outside, chewy inside, and full of character. Every bite feels like a celebration: flaky pastries, artisanal naturally leavened bread, and thoughtful flavor combinations that make it a true bakery destination. The coffee pairs beautifully with the baked goods -- and they even sell locally roasted coffee from a woman-owned roaster in nearby Greenwood, which adds a wonderful Maine-made touch to the experience. Service is warm and friendly, and the cozy, welcoming atmosphere makes you want to sit down with a latte and savor every last bite. If you ever find yourself in Bethel, this gem of a bakery is absolutely worth the trip -- it's one of those places that leaves you already planning your next visit.

The ham and cheese croissant lacked the laminated layers we expect from quality croissants - and was almost overcooked. This one was a miss. The savory tarte was OK but lacked depth of flavor. Some herbs and acid would have helped offset the salty cheese. Overall a quality spot we'd definitely return to if again in the area.

What an adorable cafe!…read more We stopped in before we headed home to have coffee and breakfast. We arrived at a quiet point in the morning rush, but they do get very busy! Service is friendly and fast though even when they're packed. I had a turmeric maple latte which was unique and delicious. Along with that I had the Mountain Mama sandwich which had an egg, hummus, goat cheese, and vegetables on a super soft English muffin. It was delicious! My husband had a hummus bagel with cucumbers and tomato and it was a great light start to the day. We also tried a ham and cheese croissant which was good. It was the softer bread style croissant and had chopped rosemary ham and cheese which was delicious, I only wished there was more of it! I brought a maple molasses cookie and a butterscotch cookie home. They were both so delicious and chewy! My only criticism is I wish there was a touch more salt, but I'm nitpicking. Highly recommend stopping in for a light breakfast or lunch, and taking some baked goods for the trail!

The wedding we attended featured them, and after trying a few, I knew I had to visit the shop myself. They're perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and genuinely some of the best I've had. Their coffee is solid--definitely the best you'll find in this small town--and they offer a surprising variety of avocado toast options, all fresh and really thoughtfully put together. On top of that, the people who work here are so kind. It feels like the sort of place where everyone is happy to see you walk in. If you're passing through, or in town for an event like we were, this bakery is absolutely worth a stop.
