OMG! How have I lived this long and never tasted Uygher cuisine? We had an amazing server who gave solid recommendations. We started with the lamb kavap and shared the ginormous chicken stew, and finished off with the honey cake. Every this was so flavorful. The lamb is served on skewers with 23 different spices. Definitely tasted cumin, paprika, peppercorns, garlic, and so many other spices! The chicken stew was so delicious. Be warned that it's big and spicy! Definitely a kick of peppercorns. I believe it's a full smashed whole chicken so each bite has bits of bones. But the chicken is stewed in a rich, spicy broth. The stew has hand made noodles, potatoes, and peppers. We finished off with honey cake which helped cooled down the spices we just ate. Lovely slice of cake with a scoop of coffee ice cream. This place gets busy but they have a digital waitlist. I had been here a long time ago but wanted to expose my friend to something new and unique. It was a Saturday evening and we luckily found street parking close by. We checked in with the host on the first floor, but she escorted us to the second floor to be seated. I overheard another table ask for paper menus, so it appears there is that option. For a starter, we ordered handmade lamb dumplings and for entrees, original meefen and lamb on dry land with a side of white rice. It all ended up coming out around the same time and the tables are a little small so it felt like an overwhelming amount of food, but it was actually the perfect amount for two people. The lamb dumplings were flavorful, albeit, the wrappers were a tad too soft. The original meefen was very tasty, especially the minced meat. However, the uden noodles don't do a great job of absorbing sauces, so it felt like a lot of the oils and flavor were left behind. The lamb on dry land was good, but it was difficult to eat especially two people. We didn't realize it would be meat on a stick, similar to a turkey leg but less meaty. We ended up eating the easy parts, but took the bone home to finish out of the public eye. The crispy potatoes on top were my friend's favorite. The total was about $50 which was fair. Our waiter and other staff members did an excellent job of getting us all we needed and clearing plates as we finished. Saw raving reviews for this place and decided to order via Uber Eats. The food was well packed and hot when it arrived, but my cake & ice cream was packed with the hot items so my ice cream was slightly melting. The food overall was good and hit the spot. The lamb skewers were tender, light seasoning and little gamey but not overly. I really enjoyed the meefeen, it definitely has a kick to it. The rice noodle was nothing I have had before. I was expecting the typical thin rice noodle from a package but these were the real thing. They were thick and the perfect texture. It's like the thickness of udon but texture of rice noodle. It is a tad oily which makes sense because I think the sauce is made with chili oil. I also tried the honey cake. The cake is moist, and paired well with the ice cream. I've been on a hunt to find honey cake ever since I leaned about its existence and had been struggling to find, and then stumbled upon Jahunger while at a Wickeden Street Market. Was so pleasantly surprised. NGL based on the name I always assumed Jahunger was Jamaican but it is indeed a Uyghur restaurant. I got the Jahunger Noodles with tofu and I really liked it. Good flavors and love that they have tofu / are accessible to other diets. I did think the dish was a little too oily but I still would get it again and have since I first tried. I went here with my friend for the first time a few months back and I really wanted to try the Meefan or Original Meefan but was talked into the chicken stew- it was so flavorful and delicious... when we were both full it still looked like we hadn't touched the food- TONS of leftovers for me- yay! When I saw Jahunger while researching Providence, I knew we had to stop in because I've never tried Uyghur food before. I love all the Asian food and being able to try a subset that I've never had before was really exciting. Amazing meal--one of the best we had in Providence. The lamb was flavorful and tender. The chicken stew had a complex flavor profile that went well with the juicy chicken, chewy hand pulled noodles, and potatoes. We spent $18.50 per noodle (2) order and everything totaled to $85, Based on posts and reviews this noodle spot is supposed to be a Michelin contender hence why I chose to spend our hard earned money here. So why the disappointment and dissatisfaction? Taste= noodles were rubbery and the taste is ordinary, nothing special, I wish it did. Dumplings= Store bought dumplings taste waaay better and much cheaper Green beans= it's just spicy and a little soggy Pancake= bland and that's it! Portion - The servings are so small for the price. I love Jahunger and it's a place I always want to come back to. The restaurant itself is unassuming but the staff are very pleasant and always accommodating. The real hit is the food of course. I love the Jahunger noodles and have had many of their other noodle dishes as well. They're always flavorful with a great chew and the meats they use are great as well. After trying Jahunger for the first time, I can totally understand what all the hype is about! We went early on Sunday night in anticipation of a potential wait because the restaurant does not take reservations; as a table for 2, we were able to walk in and immediately be seated. I had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, and we really enjoyed the lamb dumplings as an appetizer. They were perfectly seasoned and moist. For our meal, we had the Meefen and the Jahunger Noodles. Both were amazing, but I personally preferred the Jahunger Noodles since the hand pulled noodles without excess broth were more to my taste. I'm very happy to have finally tried out Jahunger. Long overdue. Fresh, house made hand pulled noodles, little hole in the wall type place and overall decent service. I got the Jahunger noodle. Since it was my first time here, what better dish to start with- the one named after the restaurant. The good: the noodle was fantastic. Thick, chewy, and unlike any other noodle I've found in Providence. An opportunity for this dish is to bring some more freshness. It's got some deep flavor but it's not particularly complex and there frankly wasn't enough sauce to sop up with those nice thick noodles. Also, there was hardly any beef. A handful of thinly cut beef and that was about it. If I recall, it was $17 and I feel it was worth that but I wish the ratio of ingredients was different. The ding ding noodles my wife got.. Now that dish was a standout. The flavor was absolutely amazing and instead of noodles they were hand cut into little bit sized chunks that still had the same chew as mine. Loved it. The cold chicken was.... Something to skip. It was a plate with 1, read, ONE chicken drumstick topped with an overwhelming amount of raw red onion. The sauce was okay. And the Sichuan seeds were fun for a few bites, but I paid for mainly onion. The bone and the skin should have been removed from the plate prior to serving and there should have been double the meat. Chicken drumsticks are insanely cheap. Giving 4 stars because I like their home made noodles that much and having made this exact type of noodle, I know and appreciate how much work it takes to knead and work such a difficult dough. I could have made some better choices on the sides. I think I'd come back if I was in the mood for a stir fry and a thick chewy noodle. Is it a must visit? A converted house serving mostly authentic Uyghur and western Chinese fare in tight quarters. Get there early or get in line. Meefen: Thick rice noodles with chili bean paste and celery, along with a choice of protein (I chose chicken). More wet and strongly spicy. I received a sticker for managing to eat it all despite the high spice level. Jahunger Noodles: Ordered once with tofu (can choose from a number of different proteins) and once without, these were faintly coated with condiment and somewhat smoky. Not very spicy, but REALLY nice flavor. Nice chewy texture to the noodles, which had a tagliatelle-meets-udon feel. Long strips of chive added some crunch and herbal punch. This should be a must for any first time visitor. Leek & Egg Dumplings with fresh chives and minced shrimp: Clean, bright, simple, and well done. Nothing noteworthy but a nice, pleasant dish that can serve as a foil to the spice of spiced up as well with the dipping sauce. Ding Ding Noodles: This claims to have "Beef and homemade noodles painstakingly cut in small chunks by hand," and they live up to that claim. No squiggle, no jiggle, and harder to eat with chopsticks, but a nice mouthfeel with the thicker, chewier texture. Hot sauce, not discerned, so flavor lacked oomph, but clean and pleasant, with tender beef. I'd get it again and ask them to make it hotter. Samsa: This pair of savory buns stuffed with tender lamb meat didn't come with dipping sauce, but didn't need any, because it was very juicy and vigorously gamey, offset by some herbal components. A great bite and the runaway hero of the second visit. Scallion Pancake: Pretty ho-hum, light and crispy with mild scallion flavor and way too little dipping sauce. Skip this unless you have a vegetarian to accommodate. Stir Fried String Beans: A little limp, lukewarm, and perked up with dry chile. I liked the spice treatment, light oil, and lack of saltiness (which I do like but try to avoid) and lack of gloppy sludgy texture found in too many renditions elsewhere. You can order this ginormous spicy chicken stew if you're dining in person, which is suppppeerr spicy but so good with rice. The scallion pancakes are a yummy crispy appetizer. The homemade yogurt dessert is pretty good as well! The food really is so good; there is a reason their chef was nominated for a James Beard award in 2023! The vibes are very relaxed. They have booster seats for kids but no high chairs. The service is pretty standard - it can get crowded but they are pretty fast overall. I would say the prices are definitely on the higher side (especially in more recent years) but it's worth the treat for those delicious noodles with the best bite! A gem! First visit and I expect I was one of many first time diners that have not eaten Uighur food (and New England's first such restaurant). It is Chinese but spices are different. The owners have faced many obstacles (a fire, COVID) but are succeeding. We were there on a Thursday and the place was full and lively and we saw many take out orders. Saw what we expect were many Brown students. Although modest - don't be concerned when you see the space downstairs - there are many tables upstairs. The service was superb, food delicious, and entrees were huge and clearly too cheap (smaller portions or raise prices a bit!). Unless you are super hungry - you might want to skip an appetizer (as noted above - large entrees). See pics for our choices. Damages with tip was $85 but note that $20 went to two sakes. First time to Jahunger and it was a solid meal. I thought this was going to be a small restaurant, but it actually has an upstairs that I didn't know about! It is still small with not that many tables, but they turn over quickly, so I'm sure patrons wouldn't have to wait too long to be seated. The service was also satisfactory, our waitress was friendly, and the food came out quickly. I will say, however, that this location was not the cleanliest upon further inspection - there were sauce splatters on the wall next to us, and the bathroom was unpleasant. I went with my husband for an early dinner around 4pm, so it was pretty empty at that time, but it started to fill up as we neared the end of our meal. I ordered the Ding Ding Noodle, my husband ordered the Jahunger Noodle, and we both split the Cold Chicken. I felt very differently about each of these dishes because, yes, they are all unique from one another, but for me, they had varying end results in terms of ratings. I give the Ding Ding Noodle 5 stars all the way! It was so flavorful, had a little bit of heat, and it was just such a comforting bowl of goodness. I loved the cut-up noodles, they were cooked perfectly and retained their chew. I have to give a 4 to the Jahunger Noodle dish. While the noodles are seriously some of the BEST you can find out at a restaurant, I feel as though the dish didn't have enough beef, the portion was a little small, and I expected just a tad more from the flavor. Don't get me wrong, it was a tasty entrée and beautifully presented, but it just left me (and my husband) wanting more out of it. The Cold Chicken was sadly only a 3/5 for me. The chicken was quite tasty, and the Sichuan peppers are always a fun addition, but there were a lot of raw onions, like, more than you would want, and to be presented as a main chicken dish, there wasn't too much chicken in there. It was also plated with the bone so there were a lot of bits that weren't edible. Overall, Jahunger was a sound choice, and I would visit this restaurant again either for dine-in or takeout. It's not at the top of my list, but I would still recommend it for unbeatable noodles and reasonable prices. read more

--Location/Parking-- Located east of RISD along the popular Wickenden street with many cute shops and pubs. Parking looks to be street parking. --Ambience-- Cute restaurant with limited number of tables. I sat on the 2nd floor which can manage maybe 7 or 8 parties if well organized. Minimal and modern décor with clean white walls. --Service/Staff-- The staff was friendly and pointed to an all-digital menu, which required internet connection. When I explained my phone ran out of batteries and needed to be charged, they looked confused on what to do as far as ordering. I asked for paper menu, and none were available. I don't mind the upgrade because of COVID, but the staff were not trained on how to handle this situation. Overall the service was great, and the staff was friendly --Food/Products-- I originally wanted the Original Meefen, but they ran out by the afternoon. The Ding Ding noodles were perfection and was not a disappointment. One of the best noodle dishes I had in a while. I also recommend the Stir-Fried String Beans which were crunchy and tasteful. Usually when I order them, it comes out soggy, this was in contrast when I can tell it was fresh from the wok --Capacity-- I sat on the 2nd floor which looks it can handle a party of 7 groups of 2-4 people. I am unsure on the 1st floor seating since it was unavailable during the Saturday afternoon --Overall-- I will be back to try to get their Meefen which is a unicorn for me since it is made in limited numbers. read more

DO NOT HESITATE TO TRY THIS PLACE!!! It's always a winner! We love the Jahunger noodles with tofu, green beans (which I like to pair with the white rice) and the scallion pancakes. Not sure you can go wrong with anything there though. I do have to be honest - there's a pretty good spice level in most of the dishes. Wow, this place brings the heat! Foods great. Interior feels like a cozy home. Service was a little disappointing, more on that later. On to the food: The cold chicken had the best flavor of any I've ever tasted. The tingle on the lips and mouth are intense. I didn't see any Sichuan peppercorn but they must blend it in the sauce and strain it because it was extra tingly. They also add Thai chili peppers to up the spiciness level. If you like spicy, you will love this! It's not uncomfortably spicy, don't worry. The jahunger noodles on the other hand were not spicy. The noodles are thick and have a really nice chewiness to it. The bottom of the dish is a bit oily though. For service, it felt hard to hail down a waiter. When I was finished, my card got swiped for the table next to me on accident. My waitress also forgot to pack my leftovers the first time I asked. It honestly felt a bit disorganized but the food was good. I'll most likely be back when I'm in providence area. read more
