Fantastic service, great food, and great cocktails. The ambience is very nice. Our first time and we will be back.

Hawaiian Burger with No cheese. I should have taken a picture when it arrived but I was eager to dig in!

This was the 3rd time to try Pyke's and to say it continues to impress is an understatement. This time I ordered the Hawaiian Burger and hands down the best burger I have had in East Texas. Juicy and absolutely perfect! The service is great. The owners are amazing to talk to and very attentive and knowledgeable. Previously my wife and I have had the pizza which was very good and Salmon which she really enjoyed. All things considered we will definitely return! The atmosphere is great. Lots of locals enjoying the great food and enjoying a drink.

This is a very good Steak. We each ate here separately but…read morerecently; we each had ribeyes, and we each thought they were very good. I was even visiting with a friend of mine who caters and cooks steaks for that and said 5 D is one of the few local places he will go and order a steak. We liked the atmosphere, the bread and butter, the sides, the service and all of it. It is much larger now than in the past, the venue, and we will be back.

First time ever coming here. Me and my wife made it a date night . It's about an hour away from us,…read morebut had heard people talk about it, so finally decided to come! It's in a very small town, hardly anything at all but it seems this is the best place to come. We came in on a Friday night at around 6 and it was just starting to get busy. We did not have reservations but they were still able to get us in with no wait. The hostess was very friendly and informative. It didn't take long after we were seated for our waitress to greet us and take our drink order. Soon after our drinks were delivered we were brought bread and our food order was taken. I ordered the Cowboy Ribeye which according to the menu is a "20-22oz bone in Ribeye". However, there was no bone in the Ribeye I received. I also added 2 quail medallions which are quail breasts stuffed with cream cheese, jalapeños and wrapped in bacon. As my sides, I ordered a side house salad and cowboy potatoes. Over all, the meal was very tasty, every thing I ordered, especially the steak (even though I think they gave be a regular ribeye instead of the Cowboy ribeye). You can tell they cook the steaks over an open flame, rather than just a flat top grill. A suggestion to the restaurant is with the steak knives. Both my wife and I got dull knives, which made cutting our steaks very difficult. My wife ordered the New York Strip. I won't write out my wife's opinion of her steak, but the only thing I will say from my perspective is that it was undercooked by about 2 temperatures. Overall, we enjoyed our date night here and are glad we came, but the in our opinion, although the food was good, there was nothing that just really stood out that we felt we could only get from here, that we would want to drive an hour out here again. If we are ever in the area though, we would definitely come back again, the food was good, just not extraordinary. The reason for 3 stars is that although my steak was good, it was the wrong steak. The knives were really dull and made cutting the steak very difficult. My wife's steak was two temperature undercooked and the bathrooms were very dirty.

I have an admission to make and it doesn't speak well for my character, but what else is new. I…read morewas enticed to try this place strictly by its name. this lead me to imagining how the place would provide yet another example of how silly texas stuff actually is in today's world. in short, i think texans take themselves much too seriously. they aren't riding the range, or having shootouts (well, not the kind that happen in a corral anyway) or (with air-conditioning everywhere you turn) have much need for a "10-gallon hat". but i had neglected to consider that, all that predictable claptrap aside, this place might actually be enjoyable simply because it's a good "steakhouse". I don't really care much for beef these days, it seems kinda unidimensional flavor-wise, differing mainly in tenderness, cut and age of the meat. there is something to the choice of how "well" you like the meat cooked, and in that regard it's much like lamb to me: flavor gets more complex with time and heat. I prefer lamb braised like the greeks do it, rather than grill-marked with red-pink inside. Likewise with beef, which needs to be carefully broiled or grilled to a point just before the protein begins to dewater from being overly done. well/medium well is a tough call to attain given that the cooking continues several minutes after the heat is removed. So here's the serious good about the redneck grill: go for the 16 ounce ribeye: the cut is about as tender as texas steak gets (don't know where peter luger gets their meat but at one time the old man personally selected the incoming hindquarters off the truck). 12 is mainly thinner and has a bit more fat. forego any additional seasoning on anything (french fries included) as there is more than enough salt and etc already. order it cooked to your taste, the kitchen will make a good effort to deliver it that way. this has been my best restaurant experience in this little town, for whatever that's worth. but of course there's plenty of the old texas-texas-texas claptrap to amuse you: the ever-popular cowhide on the wall, exposed brick behind broken terra cotta, creative use of corrugated metal siding as wall covering, expired texas license plates decorating the walls, antiquey kinds of lamps emitting low level light, etc etc etc. ok, i give up on this, texas is still mostly texas once you're outside the perimeter of one of the hopelessly overgrown metroplexes. if you're planning to relocate here to buy a cheap house and avoid state income taxes, enjoy it. i'm going home tomorrow.
