I met Mike at a healthy Home Inspection on behalf of a buyer I was representing. We did have to reschedule due to a conflict, but we got the results in time for our deadline. I called him on New Year's Day and he was able to go to Sonoma County the next day to test my rental unit. My tenant had a leak and said she had a "mold sensitivity". The results were good news. This is a response to Michael's apologies offered on Yelp in response to my one-star review. Apologies are great, but empty if that is all that is offered for wasting a client's time. Not only did Michael reschedule my initial appointment several times because the previous client's job was taking so long, but he then ghosted me the following day by not showing up to our new appointment. He also didn't get in touch, either that day or for some days afterwards.. When I finally texted him few days later, he said he was "so sorry" and explained that he'd not felt well but later felt okay and that he'd "gotten held up at another appointment." Hmm. I was his only appointment for that day. I gave Michael a chance to make it right with me by asking for a reduced rate. Completely ignored. Only more apologies here on Yelp (oh, he was in the hospital and couldn't communicate). I wonder if Michael realized that not only did he waste my time, but perhaps I might have a health issue of my own, which is why I'd hired him in the first place? My review has changed, I still don't know source of moisture in my home. Moisture Drips forming hitting ground in attic few weeks back. I hired Michael to find the answer of cause of moisture so I can remediate. Needed someone to dig to find answer. Filter was horribly dirty. He said this was source of poor indoor air quality when results came back as no mold on filter. When I email to question the mold inspection results aren't making sense as to cause of mold, I didn't hear back. Nice guy. Just again even with added attic inspection fee, dirty filter wasn't the answer to cure my sick home so my body can begin to heal. I wanted hvac system tested, when M said let's test filter instead. I agreed when I shouldn't have trusted the suggestion. My fault there. Enjoyed his friendliness, but I hired to determine moisture source which is still occurring. read more

tl;dr: Michael is extremely knowledgeable, has good prices, quick to respond, and is not trying to upsell you or sell you any products. I highly recommend using Michael for any air quality issues you have. I was having an issue breathing in one particular room of my new home. My wife didn't have much of an issue, but I spent the most time in there and am generally more sensitive. I got Michael's info from my realtor and he came out very quickly. He performed multiple measurements and sent out samples to a lab. He also provided us with detailed information and recommendations for how to have the best air quality in your home. He isn't trying to sell any services or products, which is great. So, you know his advice is just based on his knowledge and experience. The tests showed everything as normal, but Michael suggested replacing the insulation in our attic as upon visual inspection it appeared quite dirty and could be causing problems or the problem could be hidden underneath the insulation. His theory was completely right! When a contractor removed the insulation, they found a previous leak that was fixed left wet insulation that grew mold right above that room. After removing the old insulation and adding back new insulation, the problems are all resolved and I feel great working in the room all day. I'm so grateful to Michael for his work in resolving my issue. Without his guidance, I absolutely would have had a really rough time trying to figure out what was going on. This review is long overdue. I rarely write reviews nowadays unless something extraordinary takes place, good or bad. A member of my family became gravely ill seemingly out of nowhere almost 2 years ago that had doctors even at the Mayo Clinic mystified. While our family was searching for options and looking for answers, I decided to have their house inspected in March/April 2020 to check for any bad pollutants in the air. I was experiencing headaches in my rented office, and I had no idea how to determine the cause. I contacted Michael on Friday, and by Monday he was inspecting the space. I recently hired Michael to do a mold test on a home I was in contract to purchase. Michael did an incredibly thorough job of testing the home for mold, including doing both air and swab samples. When the tests came back positive for mold, the sellers of the home hired a mold remediation company to eradicate the toxic mold. Michael then came back to do further tests and he found slight traces of more mold in the air ducts. The remediation company came back to do more work and then Michael came back a third time to run a final test which came up clean. Throughout the entire process I was extremely impressed with Michael's professionalism, communication, and willingness to explain every detail. I would definitely hire Michael again and will likely bring him back in 6-12 months to do another test just to make sure all is still clear. read more

A while back we used Q Indoor Air for air quality testing on a 2nd boat owned by a non-profit sustainability group. He previously tested our first boat. He set the appointment to do the work and failed to notice us of any price changes from the fist boat testing he did. When at the job site he then proceeded to negotiate with our non-profit organization in a non-transparent and duplicitous way telling us his prices had gone up and tried to switch the requested service to a far lesser service at nearly the same price. Realizing he was running a bait and switch service type scheme on us we canceled the job. We directly confronted him on this tactic and he got very defensive. As he was leaving he arrogantly commented how he was the only one doing this work and we would not be able to find anyone else to do the work. Also as he was leaving, in a very unprofessional manner, he said we would get our Karma for saying we would let others know about of our experience with him. After this second dealing with this company I now have to wonder if the first set of air quality readings he did for our non-profit were even properly taken, valid or really even accurate. I have to start off by stating that I have a child who has multiple allergies and also suffers from asthma. After moving into a new home, I wanted to make sure the home was safe from any mold or anything that could trigger my son's asthma. I am in the middle of my second indoor mold issue. This can truly be a nightmare, And it's hard to know where to start and what advice to follow. I find Michael to be the most practical and well-informed of the opinions I have received. There seem be many ways to view the mold issue. I find many in the profession at large are not necessarily versed in what a major health issue this can be, Michael gets right down to business with a calm and reassuring manner and gets the job done, at very reasonable cost as well, which as we all know can be a big part of the stress. I have used Q Indoor Air to help with severe allergies and environmental issues in two different homes, over a 4 year period. Michael has been highly professional and prompt in every communication and home inspection/testing he's done for me. He is extremely knowledgeable about the source of allergens/contaminants and freely shares *tons* of simple, inexpensive tips one can immediately implement to make a difference in your health. Be prepared to take notes, as he may have a lot of suggestions, but trust me, make them, and the cumulative effect with be a huge benefit to your health and home environment! He may also recommend some pricey solutions (e.g. air cleaner), which with some providers can make me suspicious, but he doesn't actually sell them, so I feel very comfortable with his recommendations. My most recent need to consult with him involved water intrusion into my home, which was greatly complicated by shared responsibility with someone else who hasn't been so cooperative. Michael's knowledge of construction practices, the dollars/cents of construction, corners builders often cut, and the better performing level of materials specifications in rebuilding/mitigation has been invaluable to me. More than anything, I am happy that Michael "gets it" about allergies and sensitivities, appreciates the value of doing something properly the first time, and has the expertise to help improve one's health and home. Mold testing is only a very small part of what Michael can do, and in my opinion, just a first step of what we can do for our own health. Edit: I didn't think to use Q Indoor Air for a pre-purchase home inspection, but wish I did. Michael's level of inspection far outweighs the inspection that was done by the company my realtor recommended. Next time, I'd probably do both inspections to cover all the bases - learnt the hard way as the realtor inspector missed a *huge* issue that lead to the water intrusion that Michael saw ASAP. :( read more

Michael is one of the few honest and trustworthy Inspectors that I trust enough to send my patients to for evaluation of their homes and businesses. I could not have had a better experience than I did with Michael. A few years back I was noticing some black spots on a wall in our condo. Michael came in and did a really thorough evaluation. It turned out water was getting inside one of our walls due to a window not being sealed properly when it was installed - which led to the mold. After sending the mold samples to be tested, Michael indicated it was nothing serious - but I was happy I had Michael check it out and identify the cause. Michael from Indoor Air and his crew were just amazingly great to work with. Michael is very kind, professional and knowledgable, During our mold inspection Michael explained in detail what the issues in the house were, and what we could do ourselves to prevent them. We wish we had hired him to inspect our house when we bought it, then we could have prevented actually lots of the damage. After the lab mold reports came in, we wanted to get a lot of work done on the three story house to get it waterproofed and the air quality back to normal. Michael is also a contractor so he knows how to fix the damage, but he doesn't advertise it, due to a conflict in interest. But I asked him to give us a quote anyways for all the work that needed to be done, which was an overall windows siding repair, replacing an entire corner wall and studs, adding vents to house, fix roof damage, clean and replace gutters, replace an entire deck, and a lot more. We did get different quotes from other contractors to do the different jobs, but we ended up going with Q Indoor Air because they still ended up much more reasonably priced, and we just felt just much more comfortable working with Michael then with the other contractors. We're so happy that Michael made the time to basically fix our entire house, he ended up being a one stop shop for us. And during the entire process Michael stayed in conversation about what was going on, and his workers always cleaned up after they were done! makes a big difference over months of work. I told him I needed to get the results the next day. He then offered to drive the samples down to San Bruno and guaranteed I would get the results the next day.
