This place is ridiculously good! Their food is so fresh and they have vegetarian options. We ordered the calamari and mussels to start both of which were seasoned perfectly and fresh! We all loved our mains. I got the vegetarian Malaysian style curry and it was delicious and surprisingly authentic. The only thing I didn't love was the espresso martini as it was a little too sweet. The service is also great. They gave us blankets to sit outside as it was a bit chilly. I definitely recommend stopping in at this restaurant on your trip to Cahersiveen! read more

We were heading from cork to dingle and was lucky to find this place was still open. We came to Ireland early June and the evening sun sets much later. It would feel like 6pm for 3-4hrs. Just like everywhere in Ireland, the folks were so friendly and service was quick. The restaurant was beautiful and the locals were so nice to talk too. Staying in the Townhouse, we had dinner here the first night and were eager to eat here again our second night! The soups are awesome! Particularly their crab & lobster bisque. I could survive on that stuff! The salads were good, the steaks were good and the seafood was fresh and delicious. The staff is very friendly if you engage them, otherwise they leave you alone. So it's really up to you to set the tone. Internal ambiance is a bit less than formal, a bit more than casual. Book ahead, they get busy and the special you want may be gone! Love this restaurant. EXCELLENT food!!! Don't drive the Ring of Kerry without planning to stop and eat here! I would allow 7 hours to drive the Ring of Kerry (Kenmare to Beaufort portion) including stops, and including an hour to eat here. Might allow 9 hours if going from Killarney back to Killarney. Melt-in-your-mouth fish in the fish & chips. Perfectly cooked deep fried squid, not chewy at all. Amazing sweet chili sauce. The chips (fries) were just ok. The service was just ok. But the food was so good, they deserve 5 stars. Best fish & chips ever. Best calamari ever. Anywhere we've eaten those things, not just Ireland. read more

Very nice eating house. Lovely décor, clean toilets and a nice looking smoking area out the back (from a quick glance). Staff were nice too. Fitted us in when we didn't have a reservation. Plenty of Kerry accents amongst the clientèle too, which was a good sign. The bread provided after ordering was top notch. We shared the tasting plate starter of ham hock, cured meats, cheeses, bread and hummus. It was very nice, especially the hummus and the cheese. Most of the cured meats bar one was smoked, which I am not a fan of, so I think they could do half and half perhaps. For a main I went for the Pan Roasted Wild Salmon and it was delicious. It came with asparagus and hollandaise sauce - yummy! There was a side of three small new potatoes also. However I did find the dish to be quite expensive for what you got, it was 27.50 EUR. I was full by the end, so that was not an issue. I just thought the price was a bit high for the amount of salmon that came with the main course, so I dropped a star for that. I guess wild salmon is expensive, it was very tasty. My partners main was the Thai red seafood curry and mentioned by the end of the meal the one distinct flavour in the sauce was a little too overpowering for the fish. One final note, QCs is a very nice seafood restaurant, but I do not agree with what Nick S says, its not *possibly* better than Fishy Fishy Cafe. read more

Another great meal in Ireland! This time in Cahersiveen, about a 20 minute drive from Portage where we were staying. We had misjudged our timings and ended up in Cahersiveen about 5.30pm - the restaurant didn't open until 6pm, but the owner kindly welcomed us in to have drinks and browse the menu. QC's is a cosy little seafood restaurant and pub, with some interesting art and decorations. I understand there is also accommodation available, but we didn't stay. I had the crab and prawn bisque - again, another recommendation from Yelpers! And wow - hands down one of the best bisques I have ever had. It even came complete with prawn and crab meat pieces - yum! My husband had the deep fried squid - another delicious dish, which my 2 year old loved. We each followed up with a main course - I had the turbot with crab croquettes, which was really tasty. The prawns were really sweet, and good balance with the veggies. I could have done without the crab croquettes, but overall very tasty. My husband had the deep fried cod, which he rated in his top 3 fish and chips in the UK - lovely light, crisp batter, with very sweet and juicy fish - a perfect pairing! Unfortunately, by this time, we were all too stuffed to have any dessert (apart from our daughter, who happily tucked into some ice cream!). Highly recommended if you are in the area! read more

The best mushroom soup I've ever had on the Soup of the Day menu. We also had great fish and chips! My husband doesn't normally like mushy peas, but he ate the entire serving at QC's Seafood Bar and Restaurant because they were so fresh and much less salty than most mushy peas. You can never go wrong with recommendations from the locals. QC's is a family run seafood restaurant and all the seafood prepared is caught fresh and brought in on their own boats. The preparation is absolutely top notch and everything from the appetizer to the main course was absolutely delicious! I am not a fan of bleu cheese. However, when I ordered the three course dinner special it came with a first course choice and I selected the mushroom pasta with bleu cheese. I was wary. I know it seems silly to select something you already don't like, but I chanced it and was blown away with how it really pleased my palate. The main course choice was a Thai salmon that was incredibly moist. The sauce had expanding flavour and depth. I'm going to post pictures as soon as I can! I must say that the owners are really great and really love what they do. As we were only stopping through we were looking for a place to stay for the night and she called friends that had a hotel to check into rates and availability for the night. She said that QC's was starting a small guest house and we could have stayed with them, however the rooms wouldn't be ready until summer 2011. There is more information about this on their website. Was here for dinner and expected top notch seafood as indicated by other reviews. However, the food were varied in quality and generally disappointing. The crab was decent enough and came with a tasty cream based sauce. However, the bisque was too salty, and needed washing down with a drink. As stated earlier, the fish dishes (including the fish and chips someone else posted) were average at best, and surely not worth the trip. The service was also found wanting, surprisingly even though the restaurant was not near full. In sum, I've experienced better, would not recommend or come back here. read more

What a surprise - we had no idea of this place's existence until we happened by, and after we left we couldn't stop talking about it. All the staff were super friendly and very chatty. They were happy to give us recommendations and just to make small talk. The food was excellent - if you're looking for fresh seafood, this is the place! Wow what a great place to stay and the restaurant was amazing! We stayed here as part of our Vagabond tour and we would go back to this place on our own. The rooms are big and they appear to have been recently updated/built. Bathroom and shower a good size and again all updated. They have a nice patio and rest area for guests which is just outside of the pub so its really accessible. The really cool part about the rooms is they have a small refrigerator in the room! Yup, I think that was one of the few in Southern Ireland - really nice option! The staff was so nice, and everyone was very welcoming. I am a vegan, and they really hooked me up! The chef made a vegan dish which was amazing! I really enjoyed it and was stuffed. Guinness was on point and tasted great. They also hooked me up for breakfast with multiple vegan options and they even appear to went out and bought soy milk - so so sweet of them! We had dinner in their restaurant at the bar and really had a nice time chatting with the bartender and we think the owner - again all very nice and they make you feel comfortable the entire time. Really like this place and would stay again anytime we are even close to this town. read more

We'd heard rave reviews about the fish, so maybe our expectations were too high, it was good, but not life-changing. The squid appetizer was probably the highlight of the meal. It's a bit of a surprise when you check into the bar to get to your room, but a very pleasant surprise when you arrive. Clean, modern, and well appointed, we fully enjoyed the room and stocked fridge with juices, fruits, yogurt and muffins and croissants in the morning. The only drawback was no A/C which made it a noisy night trying to stay cool. Exceptional food served in the greatest atmosphere you will find anywhere. High quality at about €25 per person for two-course meal. Do yourself a favour and don't miss your chance to eat and enjoy here. Seven of us adults were staying overnight in Caherciveen in August at the height of the tourist season. Still I didn't think it would be necessary to pre-book a table in a restaurant in a tiny town on the edge of the world. I was very wrong, the restaurant was crowded. Luckily others in the group do not suffer from the same lack of foresight and our table was waiting for us. One of our group was unusually quiet for a long time before announcing that he had just finished the BEST bowl of soup in his life. Now that is quite a claim. I had the fish and chips which were excellent. The hake had been freshly caught that morning by the owner of the restaurant whose family also runs a trawler business, fishing in the atlantic. read more

The food here was delicious and there was a great early bird menu. But the service was slow and spotty, which put a damper on an otherwise excellent meal. The seafood pie had large chunks of shrimp, crab, and white fish. The spinach soup with nutmeg was lovely- smooth and quite tasty. Southern Wisconsin where I grew up is probably the fried fish capital of the U.S. With great spots but I can honestly say this haddock blew them all away. The Light airy batter was perfect as well as the portion size. I would also recommend the seafood bisque and the spring salad. We were told the owners had their own fishing business so I assume this was fresh caught daily and not frozen. Regardless I would highly recommend this place as a perfect lunch or dinner spot if you drive the ring of Kerry. read more
