The seafood at O'Neills blew me away! I order the hot and cold seafood selection which included an array of different seafood all so fresh. The location has a gorgeous view of Valentia Island as it's right on the water by the ferry. When we arrived there was a large spread power outage, but they were able to make do and as it was nice out it provided a cozy atmosphere inside. Kudos to the management for working through the outage and providing great service! read more

Suggestion from a colleague and I am so glad that we came before we took the ferry over to Valentia Island. The food was really fresh, the service was fantastic and location is off the beaten path but so close to the ferry and there is car park as well! If you're driving the Ring Of Kerry and need a bite to eat for lunch, The Point is a great choice. I recommend showing up after the lunch rush because you can sit outside if the weather is nice or in one of the window seats in the front room if it's a little cold/raining. The place itself is a jumble of rooms and knickknacks. I saw concert tickets, license plates, empty bottles and lots more mounted on the walls and sprawled out on shelves. A kind of charm. The food itself is simple, fresh and good. We had open faced sandwiches of crabmeat and salmon on Irish soda bread. You'd swear it had been caught earlier that day and chances are it was since the fishing boats come into the harbor right next to the restaurant. Fresh caught daily seafood located in Knights Town just after you depart the car ferry from St Valencia in County Kerry. Run by a local family, this pub is always busy with locals and tourists alike. The Hot and Cold is the most popular main dish with salmon, shrimp, fried squid, fried hake, and cold crab salad, it's a bit of everything. Best meal of our trip! We savoured every bite of the hot crab au gratin and the crab claws! Everything was the freshest it could possibly be. The service was wonderful too! A perfect dinner in a cozy environment right on the water! The Dingle Gin and Tonic is a beautiful cocktail served with a zesty orange slice and juniper berries with high quality gin. Just happened to stop in for a drink and the hospitality that we were treated to was second to none .As soon as we arrived you felt the friendliness of the bar staff.We soon got into some great conversations and were given great advice on the local area and some great spots to see the unbelievable scenery that this area has.A special treat was to see a 1903 All Ireland Gaelic Football medal that was won by the great grandfather of the bar men. We always make a point to dine at The Point, when we visit family in Cahersiveen/Waterville. Their seaside location is charming. The place has a nice energy about it at night. There are many fresh seafood dishes to choose from. Their wine list is nicely put together. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Albariño on our last visit. They have good Irish and international beers to choose from. Service is always casual and friendly (this is a family-run spot), no fuss. We've always felt right at home here. read more

One of the best meals we had in Ireland. First off, the room: right on the water, somehow simultaneously full of light and crammed with knicknacks: license plates, old booze bottles, hats, uniform patches, concert tickets, anything you can fit on a shelf or tape to the wall. The decor plus the servers plus the bumping local crowd made for one of the warmest rooms I can remember. We sat at the bar, and both the bartender and owner were attentive, conversational, and charming--yet we never felt rushed. Now, the food: we chose the place on the recommendation of a local fishing guide whom we asked about seafood. He knows his stuff, both on the water and at the table; the eats were fantastic. We started out with fried calamari, charmingly called squid on the menu. Unlike an ordinary fat fried ring, this dish comprised slim slices, lightly battered. Some of the best I've had anywhere. For our mains, we both had baked local salmon fillets, which were juicy and deftly seasoned. Though the chef did plunk down a plain, unseasoned boiled potato on the plate (for the locals?) she or he also included an awesome potato salad with a bright white-pepper spice that I will be trying unsuccessfully to replicate, probably, until I step into the great beyond. The food was just OK. I had the crab claw entree which came highly recommended. The claws were fresh and sweet, but the sauce was a little too oily for my taste. I know it's supposed to be melted butter but still. The dish came off a little too greasy. If I lived in the area, I'm not sure I would go back. Crab claws and pickled raw salmon directly from the freezing waves of Atlantic with Irish brown bread and butter were my favorites. Fantastic kitchen here. Tried the crab claws with chili, garlic and olive oil. Also the Roman style hake is worth getting. Lightly breaded mostly egg coated and then pan sautéed. Definitely not fried fish. This was tender and light and delicious. The salmon platter with three types was fantastic. Some of the best and freshest seafood in Ireland. Me and my wife eloped to ireland for our wedding and got married on valentia island. We came across this really awesome local bar / restaurant at the ferry port that takes you over to the island. We thought it would be a great place to have our reception after the wedding. The food was amazing the ambience was perfect. Birdie who I think owns the place was incredibly accommodating. The people were amazing even though it was only the two of us we felt like everyone there was part of our celibration. Birdie if you ever see this thanks again for everything. An amazing combo seafood lunch and wonderful staff. Stopped in on a cold rainy day and had a simple but excellent meal.

This was the finest seafood I have ever eaten. We were four and shared an order of fresh crab on brown bead and prawns in a spicy garlic butter. Absolutely outstanding. Two had the monkfish - a house specialty. One had the lobster caught that afternoon in the bay outside the front door and one had the hot and cold seafood plate. That had two kinds of smoked salmon, shrimp in a cream sauce, crabs legs, calamari, hake, boiled potato, potato salad and green salad. All of the work had been done on the lobster which also had a crab salad to replace the "stuff you can't eat". Served with a small amount of mayonnaise and a side salad. All four meals were beyond delicious. The staff were exceptional- the owner and her son spent a long time chatting with us even though it was quite busy. We arrived in town after 9pm in August and our B&B host suggested The Point, calling ahead for our party of four. We were welcomed like old friends! The Point is a warm, neighborhood, welcoming restaurant that also offers terrific seafood. As it was after 9:30pm, our meal choices were limited, so we opted for the hot and cold seafood platters.
