We had the Irish Guinness beef stew, a smoked salmon open-face sandwich, and crispy calamari. Seafood was so fresh and done perfectly. Service was fast and staff were helpful. This has been a family owned business on Main Street in Waterville on the ring of Kerry for the past 60 years You really can't miss the big lobster holding the Guinness in its claw Given its location it is indeed a draw for tourist buses piling in in boluses so don't be surprised if it gets crowded all of a sudden and then empties out again You can enter and walk into the speech g area where they have a cafeteria style serving system (tray, eating options) and you pay at the end of the line The drink orders come out on the bar side in a minute or two so you can find a table set your tray and then come get your drinks We tried the seafood pie which was quite heavy with cream and cheese and the Desi curry chicken with the white rice which was a welcome and interesting addition to the menu. I visited with my partner on a Wednesday at 4pm and we lucked out because the kitchen was just reopening. We weren't super hungry and instead wanted a snack to share. We settled for the fish and chips. I have to say, it's probably one of the best I've ever had (the other being in England). The fish was flaky, meaty, and not super oily. The chips/fries had the right level of crunch. As for the tartar sauce, well, I LOVED it. I could tell it was home made, which our server confirmed. Paired with a few rays of sunshine and a Guinness, this was a fantastic stop as we overlooked the harbor. (Tip: avoid coming during lunch rush as there are tour groups that make a stop here. We were on the Ring of Kerry Tour with Paddywagon and stopped in Waterville for lunch. This place had been recommended for lunch so we stopped in. It was semi cafe style as you went through line and grabbed a tray. If you didn't fancy the items already prepared then you could order from a menu. Already prepared items included soup of the day, seafood chowder, beef and stout stew, seafood Pie, and cottage pie. I ordered the cottage pie and a Guinness. It was delicious. Since we chose already prepared items we had plenty of time to explore the walk along the ocean before getting back on the bus. The water was beautiful. read more

Was on the Ring of Kerry Tour with Paddywagon Tours, and the suggestion of lunch here was made, and we all agreed to give it a whirl. Walked in and bellied up to the bar, my favorite thing to do. Got served very quickly, as they try to accommodate the bus time. I ordered the soup of the day; roasted cauliflower soup and cottage pie. We also ordered the ham and cabbage meal. The soup came out first....wow! It was a beautiful tan color served with fresh brown bread. The taste was so good, I found myself lifting the bowl to get every last drop. Then lunch was served....and my eyes were on overload. Our dishes were abundant in looks, smells, and flavors....delish! The ham and cabbage was drenched with a creamy sauce that sparked your taste buds up and the cottage pie was "stick to your bones" good topped with creamy mashed potatoes. There was nothing left on our plates, and sure wished I had ordered a takeaway too.... I have told everyone I know about the Lobster, and if I am ever in Ireland again....I WILL be eating here! read more

This is the perfect place to stop for lunch if your traveling the Ring of Kerry. The service was fast and friendly and the food was even better. My boyfriend got the fish and chips and devoured it all. I had the vegetarian burger... I could write songs about that burger. Veggie burgers can be a huge hit or a huge miss and this my friends is a hit. The view from right across the street can't be beat either. I would highly recommend! read more

This is exactly my kind of pub. I was recently in Waterville for a weekend break, and on our first evening, my partner and I decided we'd try this place for dinner. We were late arriving into the village, and showed up at The Lobster around 9.15pm or so. Despite that they had officially stopped serving food, the staff were happy to take our order, and the food was amazing. We'd the crab claws to start (best thing I ate all weekend), followed by pasta and stew (both were of a very high standard, and generous portions). Around 9.30 or so there was a duo starting playing music--they banged out all the usual sing-along-songs, leading to a great atmosphere. In terms of selection of beer, they have a good range, including some of the best craft beers from Cork (my home city), so I was pleased with that. They had Chieftain and Rebel Red on tap, as well as Stonewell cider. The second evening, we showed up to watch the hurling (and have more crab claws), and the staff were kind enough to stick it on the secondary television so that we could view it from the available seats at the bar. It was already on a big screen out the back, but there weren't any seats in there. Again, they were very accommodating--we came in the door and the minute we asked about the hurling they were just like, "sit down there and we'll stick it on for you!" Very, very welcoming, genuine, and professional people. The place never got too crowded, and seemed to attract a nice mix of locals and tourists. There's also a nice seating area out front for warm days / smokers. A great place to eat or drink. I cannot reccommend it highly enough, and I have to say it's one of the nicest pubs I've been to in Ireland (that's saying a lot considering I'm Irish). And as far as Irish restaurants / bars go, it is *very* reasonably priced. read more

On the western end of the Iveragh Peninsula, if you're rounding the Ring of Kerry on the N70 Road you'll come through the small & pretty seaside town of Waterville, or An Coireán, which means in gaelic "little whirlpool' In the centre of the village, noticeable because of a big Lobster holding a pint of Guinness outside, is a very popular pub that comprises of a front & rear with an all sides bar in the middle. Oh and I think there's a restaurant as well. Despite being crazily busy, well it was a Friday night, the trio of barmaids were amazing, not ever keeping anyone waiting really, I positioned myself to the side of the bar with my guinness in hand watching with respect & wonder one particular very petite girl repeatedly taking 4 seperate orders at the same time, and never getting it wrong. She was truly a little whirlpool! Not once did any of them look remotely hassled or seem unhappy, far from it, nice smiles and witty banter. Proof if it were needed that barwork is a real skill. Waterville was a favourite with Charlie Chaplin, who stayed with his family at the nearby Butler Arms Hotel. There's a statue of him along the seafront. Although I'm sure you get the tourists in season, The Lobster seemed very definitely a locals pub the night I was in. Bit on the pricey side mind, and felt as cramped as a lobster in a pot, (looked as red as one by the end of the night too), but the excellent & friendly service from these three brainy-bar girls compensated. We went to the Lobster Bar for lunch, it looked busy and bustling. Very polite service, My husband ordered the steak and Guinness stew which was passable with lovely and not too buttery mashed potatoes. The rest of us ordered the fish and chips after determining that the fish was not pre battered we asked if they would grill the fish, which was not on the menu, the staff kindly agreed. The fish was obviously pre battered and they washed the batter off and then did something to cook it...not sure if it was grilling. Extremely dry and not at all edible really really past terrible. We saw others who had ordered the fried fish and the batter looked crispy but if this tasteless bland fish was on the inside I cannot imagine it was much better. If you have to the buffet looked like it might suits the chef's cooking abilities better. read more

we recently had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful village of waterville co. kerry.. the village was very quite on the day we decided to lunch in the LOBSTER BAR . all four of our party decided to have the fish and chips which is usually amazing in any seaside town or village in Ireland.. we didnt have to wait long for our meal which looked plentyful and we were eager to tuck in after a little while one of our party commented on the amount of bones she found in her battered fish and within seconds an other one of us was actually choaking on a fish bone we all became very concerened for her but thankfull she managed to swallow it down after a while when our waitress/owner asked us if we were ok we brought it to her notice that one person almost choaked on a fish bone and that battered fish should be fillited she simply replied 'well there shouldnt be any bones in it , it comes in fresh and we batter it' my god any kind of a semi trained cook/chef knows you should never batter or bread fish unless its deboned first..we all left our plates unfinished and was charged almost €60 for the pleasure, we felt we were not treated well by the staff the least she could have done was apalogise and ask how the person who nearly choaked was.. we will never again eat in the lobster waterville... if you want fresh fish in co. kerry go to any restaurant in DINGLE or the MOORINGS portmagee, u will always get a warm welcome and the food never disappoints and the price is reasonable.. what a shame for waterville, if the businesses are treating their own(irish) like this can you imagine how the tourists are treated read more
