After years of looking for a mechanic and only taking my Subaru to the dealership for all repairs…read moreor maintenance over the life of the car (8 years), I decided to take a chance here. I had a great experience with Alex at Value Auto Repair. I originally reached out through Yelp, and he was responsive and answered all of my questions. His pricing was significantly better than what the dealership quoted me, but what really stood out wasn't just the price--it was his honesty. I came in with a humming noise that I believed was a bad wheel bearing but was unsure. Alex was upfront from the beginning after making the same diagnosis and even encouraged me to get quotes from other mechanics if it made me feel more comfortable so I could make sure I was getting a fair deal. That kind of confidence and transparency is hard to find. When I arrived, he was able to get my car in within about 30 minutes to diagnose it. While the part was being delivered, I went to lunch, and once I came back, he had the wheel bearing replaced in about 45 minutes. Before I left, he took the time to show me both the old and new wheel bearings, explaining how they worked and letting me hear and feel the difference. I really appreciated him taking the time to educate me instead of just handing me a bill. One thing I noticed while I was waiting was how many customers came in who clearly knew Alex. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to see him, several appeared to be repeat customers, and there was an obvious level of trust between them. After my own experience, I completely understand why. Alex also has a great sense of humor, which made the whole experience much less stressful. Most importantly, the humming noise is completely gone, and my car drives perfectly again. If you're looking for an honest, knowledgeable mechanic who charges fair prices and genuinely cares about his customers, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alex and Value Auto Repair. I know I'll definitely be back.

I wanted only recommended Subaru oils, antifreeze, spark plugs, etc. Value followed the manufacture's recommendations, which I was very happy. The maintenance was done in a few hours. The prices are competitive, but the trustworthiness is superior. This a great company.

I still believe that Autoport has really affordable gas, but man...those Chipio Auto Glass people…read morecan really put a damper on the gas pumping experience. They are the only reason why this place is not retaining the 5 STARS I previously gave them. When I'm pumping gas, all I want to do is lean against my car, slowly die inside as I watch my grad school savings drain before my eyes, and compromise with myself that it's okay to NOT eat for the rest of the week. But instead, you have these guys who always happen to pop up out of nowhere as my mood starts to sour, put their fingerprints all over my windshield, and insist that I have a crack - which I don't - and tell me to contact my Insurance company so I can get it fixed. It REALLY doesn't help that the card readers are slow because whenever I'm there I pray that they move faster so I can make a quick escape out of there before one of those guys can spot me. I do have to give credit to one random Windshield fixer guy who saw me at the Air Station. He took one look at my car and saw that my windshield was fine - which it is - and instead asked if he could put the air in my tires for me. So...not all of them are complete day ruiners. Other than that, I still stand by everything I said in my last review of Autoport. Even though they've hired some new people, they're still really friendly.

He did a quick preliminary diagnosis and gave me a fair quote for the alternator parts and labor. A few hours later, instead of just doing the expensive repair, he called me and explained that the alternator was actually fine -- the real problem was a wire that was shorting out and causing the symptoms. The repair ended up costing significantly less than expected because they were honest enough to fix the actual issue instead of replacing parts I didn't need. I also had them change the fluids and filters while it was there. He said it looked like my spark plugs needed changing as well. Everything was completed quickly and professionally. It's hard to find shops that are this honest and transparent these days. Highly recommend Total Care Transmissions for their integrity, communication, and quality work.

To make matters worse, I'm currently dealing with a custody battle after catching my girlfriend cheating with my cousin, so my stress level was already at about a 12 out of 10. Finally got my car back and started driving home. The car started shaking. At first, I figured it was just my stomach because I'd been battling diarrhea all day. A few minutes later I realized it wasn't my stomach--my car was dripping fluids everywhere like it had just signed a sponsorship deal with Tuli Drip. Then the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. Every warning light imaginable was on. At that point, I was convinced my Envista was preparing for liftoff. I couldn't drive it, so I called a tow truck and got hauled back to the dealership. Of course, by the time I got there, the shop was closed. The next morning they inspected it and delivered the shocking diagnosis: "It was just your gas cap." Apparently, I didn't have it on properly when I started driving. So after 5 hours at the shop, a panic attack, a tow truck ride, an overnight stay, and enough dashboard lights to decorate a neighborhood, the culprit was... a gas cap.

Oh-oh, it showed Throttle Position Sensor. The part listed for $350 at O'Reilly, and I requested a referral to a repair shop. It was Formula Auto Repair, nearby on Highland Avenue, right next to KFC. They charged me over $100 to do the same test, then told me exactly what I had told them, it needs a new TPS. I authorized the repair after determining they would charge me $359 for the part, a fair price. The waiting room is dismal. Unmatched, uncomfortable chairs placed around the perimeter of the room, up against plate glass windows. Months old automotive industry magazines, and one several year old AARP magazine, very well thumbed. No vending machines, nothing. A star off for the total lack of customer amenities. The repair was completed, but the car did not perform to my expectation. After a phone call, I returned several days later to have a different new TPS installed. The car ran better, perhaps the ECU was communicating with it better. Bottom line, it was a successful repair. The service manager was very patient with me, and the new replacement part was installed as a customer service. Except for the waiting room, it was a good experience.
