I own a 1996 Bmw 328ic and the leather on the back seat was starting to pull apart. Val from Bernie's in Santee suggested a "cap" be put on so i started my research and found Mike at El Cajon Auto Trim Shop on W Lexington. I wasn't sure exactly what a cap meant, (if it was just a piece of leather draped over the back or what). The quote wasn't that expensive and so I did it. I was so impressed when I picked it up and now I'm going to let them do the front driver seat which is showing wear. I can't wait for my 10 year old grandson to see it. He loves the car more than me! He comes to CA to ride around with the top down. The only advice I would give is, they're really good and therefore their business is also so it takes approx 3-4 weeks to get it in, but once they get it, they go to work on it. Have an F-150 work truck with a one piece bench seat that was totally blown out on the driver's side. The vinyl was torn out or trashed all over and there was a lot of foam cushion missing and what was left was a crumbling mess. It sat so low my back was aching when I sat in it. I figured it wouldn't be worth it to get it reupholstered but called around to a few places just see what my options were. Mike quoted me great price so I took the seat over to him. I had priced several places to fix or replace the door liner on my VW EOS. Years of cruising with the top down eventually found it's way under the liner and slowly started lifting it up until it was no longer glued and was flapping in the wind. I got several quotes to work on it. One place near my office changed the price three times on me and a second wanted to keep my car for half a day or more. Although El Cajon Auto Trim wasn't the closest to my home or workplace, they came with a good recommendation. I called them up to see about getting a quote. Fortunately they were open on Saturday so I took my car down first thing in the morning and immediately, Mike came out, looked at my car, gave me a respectable quote in a matter of seconds and asked if I wanted them to get started on it. Wow, fair price, no appointment needed and only had to wait a little over an hour. They not only didn't have to replace the badly shrunk liner but fixed it to where it looks good as new. I got a referral for their good work by two different people, so I expected really good work. The price was reasonable, so I had my motorcycle seat redone. I told them I wanted the seat to look the same. The attention to detail was not up to what I expected. The original was black with white decorative stiching to match the passenger backrest. Mike matched the design but did it with black stiching, not white like it should have been. The original had a black grommet to mount the driver backrest. The had the seat for 2wks, but on the day they started the work, Mike said he didn't have black. They should have looked it over and could have gotten the black grommet to match during the 2wks it waited to get started. Mike also went over the four bolt holes on the side of the seat making it where I couldn't mount it. I called them and was told to cut the holes myself, but I told them I wanted to bring it back in. My wife took it in while I was at work. They where rude to her, but they are the ones that made the mistake. If someone brings something back, you would think you would take he time to make it right? Unfortunately, no. Two of the bolt holes where still covered on the underside of the seat. Not wanting to go back a third time, I had to trim the seat so the bolts could come through. In summary, the workmanship is great, but the attention to detail and customer service is lacking. read more

I was recommended to this business originally by a friend years ago who worked at a prestigious car dealership. My friend, a service rep, told me that this was where the dealership took cars that needed upholstery work. Recently when I had work done on my car at another dealership, the service rep there had noticed a tear in the upholstery. Terrible. I went in to get an estimate today and I was blown away with how poorly I was treated. It was as if I interrupted their lunch break or something. The entire interaction start to finish rubbed me the wrong way. I have no idea how good the quality of work is but I will tell you their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. They weren't busy at all. they didn't have a lot of things going on in the shop (in fact two of the three people there were laying down on the worktables "resting") which I think is a fairly accurate statement to their work ethic. I finally took my Jeep in to have the passenger seat cushion reupholstered. These guys never cease to amaze me! This is the third time I've been to them over the years (driver's side seat cushion about 10 years ago and headliner about 4 years ago) and their work is impeccable. Their price and quality cannot be beat; don't be fooled by the storefront, these guys know what they're doing, they do it very well, and they stand behind the end product. I dropped the Jeep off in the morning and had it back by mid-afternoon, wishing I had asked them to redo the entire interior (Yes! Even the driver's seat again, although it still looks good.) The leather and stitching are beautiful and soft and puts the rest of the original interior to shame. I will definitely be back to have the other seats done...sooner rather than later. read more
