This place is a joke. The doctors are very one sided and don't care about what works for you or how you feel. They will treat you as a lab rat and have you trying 6 different medications at once. I tried for 11 days to get a call back from "Deb" who was the doctor ( I guess), that took me off my medication that I had been on for months that was working great, to try a concoction of dangerous meds with crazy side effects. I had been calling because the medications she switched me to were not working for panic and anxiety attacks and I just wanted to go back to the prescription I was on before I went to see these quacks. She avoided my calls for 11 days even after I had told her secretary that I was having chest pains with panic attacks since she started switching my medications. They don not use Xanax or Ativan at all no matter how long the patient has been on it, this says a lot about how one sided and bias towards the drug company reps they work with are. Stay away from this place, find a real behavioral health specialist who actually cares and listens. read more

Firstly, I want to say that I have been seeing Dr. Kisch for over 15 years and he is hands down the best psychiatrist I ever had and saved my life more than once. He runs late a lot but the fact that I am functional because of him makes him worth the wait and I have followed him to every office he has moved to. If I were reviewing him it would be 5 stars but since this is a review for QBH itself, I feel a 2 is generous. The waiting room is extremely cramped, I don't need people knowing my business when I'm there but it's hard to not overhear everything. The staff at check in are usually very nice to me so I don't have a problem with them. What I have a major problem with is getting the people who handle refills to actually do their jobs without me and my pharmacy having to contact them multiple times. It's funny to me how they never seem to get the pharmacy's faxes but manage to fax the same number with the refills when I call after waiting a week and multiple faxes. Taking 9 medications makes this is extremely inconvenient and they are always very rude about it. I'm a veteran at this, I take my medication, I make all my appointments so there is no reason at all that I should have to go through that. If I lose my patience with them they feel that they can speak to me like I am a child when I am simply a frustrated person with Mental illness, and if they can't learn how to speak and deal with people like me than they need to find a new job. I'm doing what I am supposed to do, they need to do their part. If you love your Doctor and they happen to be at QBH than I say it's worth going there, if not maybe research some more. read more

This office is probably one of the worse I have ever seen in the medical field. Most people work in the medical field because they care about people and want to help others. Dr. Mailhot was so rude and the most uncompassionate "doctor" I have ever seen. The office staff is rude as well and could care less about the patients. I am a nurse myself, so to see an office this horrible is embarrassing to my profession!! My children were in need of their professional services and they did not provide any help or concern. To even see a psychiatrist here you have to do an intake with a therapist. It is an annoying hoop to jump through but I made the appointment anyway. I showed up to this appointment and they had cancelled it!! They said they cancel all first time appointments if you don't call them back to confirm. I rescheduled but, unfortunately, couldn't get a babysitter for this second appointment. When you walk in to the office there is a sign that says "no food or drink" and another sign that instructs you to keep an eye on your children and not let them run around. I also noticed that the books were located behind the desk and you had to ask to borrow them. None of these things are a big deal, but that's when I started to see that this office expects you to bend over backwards for them but they won't lift a finger for you. Quality Behavioral Health also requires you to be in therapy to see their psychiatrists. It seems like a racket to make more money for them because there are a lot of psychiatric illnesses that can be well controlled with medicine and don't require ongoing therapy (ADHD and anxiety are two examples). The therapist and the psychiatrist both seemed annoyed that I brought my one year old, saying "this room isn't child friendly" and "Is he going to be able to make it the full hour?" I got a lot of the same questions from both of them, which, to me defeated the point of doing an intake in the first place, wasting my time, but making them a little more money. The psychiatrist was 15 minutes late for my appointment but I'm sure if I were 15 minutes late they would have canceled my appointment. While in the waiting room I overheard the receptionist tell a patient that they were being charged for their missed appointment. I was also informed that patients have to fill out a long survey every single time you come in. So, if you have to keep an eye on your child I hope you know how to multitask. Or if you just want to relax with a magazine, you're out of luck too. I doubt they actually read the surveys because if they did they would not treat their patients so poorly. There were a surprising number of children there. Maybe there aren't enough child psychiatrists in the area. Neither the therapist or the psychiatrist were warm or friendly. In fact, I felt slightly interrogated. The icing on the cake was at the end of the psychiatrist's appointment when I was told that they do a drug screening on all their patients. Trust is so important for the relationship between mental health professionals and their patients. I don't think they realize how damaging that act is. It starts the relationship off with the statement that they don't trust you. At this point I had decided that I would not be using their services but I provided the urine sample because, when put on the spot like that, declining is as good as saying you're guilty. If they will drug test their patients I am sure there is no limit to what other impositions they will come up with. read more

When i first started there the practitioner i was seeing asked me about 10 questions then loaded me up on meds i didn't need....she put me on zyprexa risperdal lithium geodon...after feeling worse than before and gaining 40 lbs i requested a different dr wich was a huge hassle.they finally switched me to dr ruggiano who abruptly stopped all meds previously given to me and put me on welbutrin wich directly contridicts what the practitioner had done.next time i saw dr ruggiano i complained of anxiety.his answer was to take me off all meds and said that i look normal...whatever that means.then he said and i quote"says in your chart that you use to drink alot...why dont you go drink for your anxiety"blown away i said some rude stuff and left.when i called to complain they blamed me amd and said nothing would be done.and the secretaries do indeed act like they are doin you some kind of favor by being there.the counselors come out late and end appointment early and im sure they charge the insurance for the full hr.i believe they do more harm than good. read more

I had two appointments only for therapy at this place. I used to be a manager at a counseling facility so I am well aware of mental health patients and how they should be treated, nevermind being on the receiving end of treatment. The front office staff are terrible and they treat you like a number, not a patient who needs help. They made an error with my nurse practitioner appointment, and rescheduled my appointment for the following day. I had to cancel due to being in the hospital with my elderly father and was told I would be charged$75 for a late cancellation unless I provided a note from the hospital. I should've charged them the same fee when they cancelled my appointment the same day! I was then told if I did not pay or reschedule with the NP, that my therapist appointment was going to have to be cancelled as well. This facility needs to fire all staff at the front and hire competent staff who have an understanding of how to treat people in general nevermind mental health patients. I don't have enough time invested to rate the clinicians except to say mine was not great. read more

Hate the office itself. Way too many nonsensical rules and policies signifying that the practice is engineered by a sick control freak who prohibits patients from drinking water while on premises. In addition, on one of my biweekly visits over past few years I once forgot to bring my healthcare card (they need to see it every time you come). As a result they cancelled all my previously scheduled appointments with my therapist until I went home, got the card, and showed it to them. They wouldn't just let me bring card to next appointment (and no information had changed on card over past years)! Another time the office in error charged me incorrect copayment for several weeks running (even though I told them I thought they were mistaken), then out of the blue told me I was over $200 in arrears and had to pay up before seeing counselor. Fortunately I had the money and could pay them but they were "shocked" that I was angry at being treated like a deadbeat. Some of the people who work at QBH are perfectly nice but others are just plain rude to the patients. Last but not least, I once consulted with one of the psychiatrists in this practice, Dr. Kitsch ? (Not sure of spelling of name). After one consultation with him during which I explained that I had been taking medications that worked for me for over a decade ( after years of trial and error) and that had been prescribed for me by psychiatrists far more experienced than he in the Boston area and in Providence, he seemed somewhat angered (for reasons that completely escape me -- I didn't tell him my previous doctors were more experienced-- I was just looking for a doctor closer to home). He then said he would take me off ALL the medications that had worked for me for over a decade and start anew. His only reason for this plan was that, in his opinion, I was on too much medication. I decided he was an unqualified hack and that he was far too eager to mess around with success and my mental health. Bear in mind that the medications I still take have permitted me to return to work as a professional after several years of complete incapacitation from severe depression. In addition the medications have resolved with no side effects chronic and eventually disabling insomnia developed in my teens. read more

Absolutely the worst 'medical care' in the entire state of Rhode Island and beyond! A virtual factory like atmosphere ensures that your appt with a 'health care provider' will be rushed, with no attention to the details surrounding one's ailments. After waiting six weeks for an appt, I was greeted by a rude, condescending, and inconsiderate physician, who spent 7 minutes with me, handed me a new script, and rushed me out the door! I will never go back, hope you never do either! read more

I work in health care and this is the worst office I have ever been to in my entire life. All the secretaries there act like you owe them something or like it's some big task TO DO THEIR JOB. Fax something, ask the doctor to fill my script, make an appointment. That's their job!!! Yet, somehow they can't seem to do it. It's like they sit around and scratch their butts all day. Seriously, when I had waited a week to get my script filled and called everyday to ask if they sent it to the pharmacy all they could say was that they would call me back (which they never did!). When I finally got to see my doctor he told me he knew nothing about it. I couldn't believe it. They need a whole new front desk staff and a competent office manager. They're all divas who are too good to do people a service. I'm a secretary myself and when a patient calls and asks if I can fax something for them... I fax it! It literally takes less than a minute. They're awful.. Never go here. Mind you I've waited an hour in the waiting room for my appointment many times. It's not worth it. Save yourself the trouble. I'm currently looking for a new doctor. You're stressed from depression and anxiety and you leave there with even more stress, depression, and anxiety. read more

This place is by far the worst place I've ever dealt with!! They only care about their money, not about their patients. The woman at the desk wouldn't let me see my therapist until I paid $100. She told me I had to keep paying $100 until I reached my deductible of $750. WRONG!! When my EOB came through, it said I was only responsible for $5 for a mental health visit. The next few times I went, they kept charging me $10 and REFUSED to let me see my therapist until it was paid, even though my copay was only $5...when they finally realized I had a credit on my account for overpayment, they stopped charging me and the same woman that forced me to pay $100 was so rude when I told her I have a credit. Now I am fighting with them for my money back because I refuse to be a patient there! This is a mental health facility! They should not be forcing you to pay more than your copay just to talk to a therapist or see your doctor!! Now they have my money and won't give it back to me! read more

This office generally does not care neither the desk staff nor the psychiatrist themselves. I went to this practice for 4 years and a lot of times the psychiatrists would joke about the patients with the desk staff all out in the open. They treat patients with mental illness as people they consider less capable to function in modern society. They have patients use and ask for a bathroom key because they do not trust them to use the bathroom for themselves. A lot of times I would sit with my psychiatrist and he would listen to something serious I had to say and respond to it with laughter. I assume all the psychiatrists there have way too many patients on their hands because of the lack of care. The doctor/therapists would also tell me about patients' that had a session before me, mocking them because of how emotional they are. These doctors forget why they became mental health attendees in the first place. Overall, without me ranting on and on, this is a terrible practice and is what is wrong with the mental health business in America. They will try to convince you there are people who care here, but the majority just want to make money, end the work day and get on with their lives. read more

I have no complaints about the majority of the staff, but "Doctor" ruggiano is the most closed-minded physician I've ever seen. After 8 months of seeing various specialists for various symptoms stemming from a hyper responsive central nervous system, and having that diagnosis confirmed over and over, John diagnosed me after 5 minutes with bipolar based solely on family history, not personal history and symptom expression. He wanted to treat my anxiety and panic attacks with lamictal, a mood stabilizer used for people with bipolar. Sadly, he fails to understand that anxiety is not caused by one single mechanism, and therefore cannot be treated with one single treatment. There is a major difference between anxiety caused by a hyper responsive central nervous system, and mood instability, and if that is not recognized, then it cannot be treated properly. It's the equivalent of trying to treat a viral infection with an antibiotic. The mechanisms are entirely different, and cannot be treated the same way. Central nervous system depressants such as gaba agonists and benzodiazepines are the only way to chemically treat severe anxiety and panic attacks caused by a hyper responsive central nervous system, and someone that has chosen psychiatry as a specialty and practiced it for over 45 years should be able to understand and acknowledge that. Some doctors are just not meant to practice medicine and don't deserve the power and responsibility that comes with it. It's time to step down, John, and be replaced by someone more capable of properly treating the people that put their life and well-being in your hands. read more

So I was seeing a counselor for a few weeks for some mood issues, and i liked her! we clicked well, a good person to talk to and i found it helpful seeing her. One day after like the 4th session, i went back out to the waiting room to check out and the secretary was like " yeah she's no longer available... so we'll have to set you up with someone else." ... UM excuse me? no termination??? there was no talk of anything coming to an end. SO the secretary was like "okay well i guess we'll just call you sometime to set up another appointment with someone else" YOU GUESS??? alright. so a month goes by... no call. until 2 days ago (on a monday) i get a call from the office calling to confirm my appointment for the upcoming wednesday with someone new... um what? i never made this appointment or agreed to it... so i didn't call back to confirm it. SOOO wednesday rolls around and I'm in class and i get a call saying that they canceled my appointment for the day (good) AND they canceled my future appointment with a psychiatrist...... an appointment that is 2 weeks from now, that i made 2 MONTHS AGO. I've been waiting 2 damn months for this psychiatry appt and they cancel it for no reason??? yeah I'm out. not even calling back to reschedule. clearly no organization when it comes to scheduling, they don't know what they're doing. read more

Quality Behavioral Health is lucky I HAVE to give them at least 1 star because they deserve NONE!!!! I had a psychiatrist for 3 years until she passed away unexpectedly and this practice was the only one that didn't have a lengthy waiting list (I now know why). On my first visit, the psychiatrist dropped my dosage on one medication and then my second visit, refused to fill said prescription as she accused me of filling 2 of the same prescriptions on the same day from her and another doctor, which never happened. She was awful from the start with accusing me rather than explaining to me what she was talking about and wasn't allowing me to defend myself. On top of refusing to fill a prescription, she also did not write me any scripts for my anti-depressants, anxiety meds, or even mood stabilizer when those can have seriously negative affects stopping without weening off. The following day, I filed a complaint with my insurance company against her and they also confirmed that I did NOT fill two of the same prescriptions from this wacky dr and another dr. The way she went about it was offensive, unprofessional, and cold-hearted. Especially when her position is to be concerned about my well being and mental health, not negatively affecting my mental stability. read more
