We're into our third year with our fence from QBE. We are on a corner lot and people are always asking about our fence. A year in we started seeing things that needed small repair; gapping, closures and caps all needed adjustment or repair. Meeting the owner did not reassure me that our issue would be resolved and they still are not. There was a lot of misdirected blame and no follow up. I will follow up and provide pictures. We have been waiting OVER TWO MONTHS for these people to fix the crappy fence they put in. They were supposed to be out here this week and the only thing they did was make a hole exposing a cracked pole. Lose panels everywhere, holes in panels, unlevel gates, hinges on gates are on upside down, it goes on. Terrible company all around. Period. 20 grand for this piece of crap fence! I asked QBE to give us a quote on a roof repair (some shingles had previously blown off). They sent Lloyd Johnson out to survey the area. Not only did he give a very thorough explanation of what to expect, he actually found a different issue (a verified leak!) and fixed it that same day. His knowledge is incomparable. His word and work ethic are beyond reproach. His crew was out within 3 days to do the actual repair. He guaranteed the leak would be fixed. Several rainstorms later and, trued to his word, NO LEAKS!! I was so impressed, I asked him to check out my house in Franklin, VA. It needed gutter replacement all the way around and had a heavy leak over our sunroom. His crew replaced the gutters around the entire house (including gutter guards!) and he, himself, climbed the roof and fixed that leak over the sunroom that no one else would touch. I can not offer enough compliments about Lloyd Johnson and how he represents QBE! His 38 years of experience shows! read more

QBE just installed a nice vinyl fence for us to replace the "vintage" wood fence that came with our house. The guys were polite and courteous and they finished a little early. They also knew we have dogs so since they can't attach the vinyl to the house and there were gaps in a few places that our little dog could get potentially escape from, they took the extra step and screwed in some leftover plan to cover the gaps and also to extend the gate closer to the ground. We intend on hiring them for our future work (redo siding, trim, gutters, and exterior doors). This was the second job they did for us and both times they've been impeccable. We got several quotes and they weren't the higher ones either. We're extremely satisfied with the finished product, quality, and value. Can't recommend them enough. read more

We decided to replace our very deteriorated wooden fence. We made the best decision by going with Quality Built. Tom gave us an excellent quote, and as always (since I've used QB for another home improvement job), he was very nice and remembered our family, even from 4 years prior! John is also wonderful to communicate with. Danny and his team did a great job putting our fence up and they were quick and efficient. They always cleaned up after themselves. BY NO FAULT OF DANNY or his team, our gates 'settled' into the ground, and Danny is set to come out and give a quick repair (but that was from normal ground settling, and not from improper installation). I had my roof replaced by Quality built exteriors. The work is great and the people are great, when you get to talk to them. Th crew showed up early on the day scheduled (awesome). The crew even plugged my pool pump back in after they were done using the outlet. My only complaint is that it seems impossible to get someone to call back after a message is left and the voice mail box attached to numbers given on business cards must never get checked because they are full. I've used Quality Built Exteriors years ago for my new roof and that experience had me coming back for more work. I just had a full fence installed with a beautiful Arbor. There is "NO QUALITY" about this company. We hired this company to build our fence on Oct 2022, the price is reasonable and the installer came on time to get the fence done. But less than 3 months later, one end of the post was wobbled and lose panels in multiple spots. They sent the technician to fix the issues. We met him on the spot and told this technician to redo the other end as the hole wasn't dig deep enough to withhold strong wind. But he insisted it was fine and won't fix if there is no issue. One year later the other end of the pole is now wobbling and we called Tom the Project Manager to come in to fix it. Tom said since it is out of one year warranty period, they won't come unless we need to pay his company at least $2,200 based the pictures we sent to them. We insisted the original installation wasn't done correctly but Tom refused to accept. Tom claimed this is the way they do business. They don't care much customer satisfaction or negative customer review posted online. This is the way Quality Built Exteriors to do business. We are upset but we learned the lesson by not study hard to find a quality builder. read more

Time for an update because a lot has happened since original review. First, it turns out Quality Built was using a sub for the work. Turns out the sub was dirty (his name is T.J. Hooker and he's in NC just in case). I've just found out my fence never had a permit so there's some trouble there. Then, T.J. Hooker - who had told me when building the fence to contact him directly with all needs as the "admin office is a mess" - came out to build a roof over my deck. The minute he built it, it was clearly a bad job as a hint of rain and it just pours through the roof. Trying to get TJ out to repair was problematic at best so I called QB office and they sent him out. He literally said "I'm going to fix this for you" brought a ladder and two cans of sealant to my back - i went back to work (wfh) - and the guy literally took off (leaving the ladder and unused sealant). Jump cut to me bringing other contractors out because right now it's unusable and I discover a) it's a major safety hazard b) it's not salvageable and has to be torn down (very costly) - I try to get Quality Built involved (where I've not discovered they never got the permitting for my fence) and QB says "well you contracted with him - not our problem." And btw - this is after they sent out a guy who - when I asked if he was vaxed he said "no" and I said oh ok you mind wearing this mask (I keep spare paper masks) and he said very rudely "I'm not wearing your mask - I don't think you're right for QB" - I was right for QB when I wrote checks for 10K but now I'm not right when asking THEM to make RIGHT the COSTLY MESS I'm dealing with. NOW - QB literally - with a straight face - delivers a 27K estimate for (wait for it) building a 3ft deck around a shed, siding on a chimney and pouring a concrete slab for a hot tub - $27K. Sheisters - and now i have to hire a lawyer. What a train wreck. Shameful - COVID exposed who to work with and who not - If you care about Quality, Honesty, Accountability and Concern for fellow humans, Find someone other than Quality Built. read more

Horrible experience! Avoid Russ at all costs! The worst part about this guy is that we wasted over three weeks waiting for him to start the work. He always had 'something' going on where he could not start on a fence (He got into a car accident, his son was in the hospital, he had to fire 3 guys, etc, etc,) If you are having family issues, one should take care of those and get someone to fill in. Their management should be communicating to the customer that one of their employees cannot do the work at the very least. Or he just would not reply at all until 3-4 days later. He came over to do the contract and became only existent in the ether after that. Oh, get an ipad or laptop-something professional. Don't have people sign documents on your crusty cell phone. It would be nice to get courtesy updates every now and then. Weather was a small issue-I get it. But there were plenty of days when the weather was fine. I almost want to keep on calling him to see what story he comes up with next. He actually texted me pictures of his injured face that was from supposed car accident. I do not need to see that. If you tell me that you were in an accident, I would have believed you. Either he has the worst luck on the planet, or he is the flakier than a box of Frosted Flakes. Started a contract for fences, for two houses, with them in May. Already having communication issues, as well as quality of work, and follow through. First house was not finished to their own satisfaction. Second house now pushed into another week. I will update this review at completion of work, if that ever happens. I have paid for the work, in full, up front and the work was scheduled to be done on July 5th, 2018. July 5th, 2018 came and went with no one showing up to do the work and no one from the company communicating with me any reason for a delay or not showing up. Side note here, when you call the main number it always goes to an answering service that takes your information and indicate that they will pass it on to the office and someone will call you back. No one EVER calls back from the company when messages are passed through this service. The only way I could get someone from the company on the phone is if I requested that the answering service connect me directly with someone in the office. So, I get someone on the phone that works in the company's office and they tell me that the job was never scheduled in their system. I ask them if they'd like me to forward them the email that I received that confirmed that the job was scheduled for July 5th, 2018. They say yes, and I send it. They apologize and tell me they are going to schedule the work and call me back. Here we are 5 days later, July 10th, 2018, and no one has called me back to schedule the job. Remember, I've paid, in full, for the work to be completed and was emailed a confirmation of the date the job would be done. Not good! I called the company and, got the answering service, I described my experience to the understanding person on their end and they connected me to someone in the office. This person indicated that the person that was supposed to schedule the job was not in the office they would have to call me back when that person returned. Update July 10th, 2018, 5:13 pm, the company closes at 5 pm and I received no return phone call regarding the job being rescheduled. I'll try again tomorrow. I'm thinking at this point I may be out the money that I paid to have the work done. I surely hope not. I will update this review when and if the job is completed or the company decides they don't want my business and just wants to refund my money. Seems that all of these bad reviews are after the year 2016. Only one good review during the 2017 through 2018 years to date. So owners of this company, what transpired at the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017 that has resulted in your company taking a turn for the worse? These less than stellar reviews are going to take a toll on your company if they haven't already. I just want the work that I paid for and was scheduled to be completed done as ordered and paid for. We had to had some roofing repair, flashing repair, drywall repair, and painting done. I would say the roofing and flashing repair are probably suitable. We shall see. The painting and drywall remain to be seen. So far, the painting is substandard. The painters have only shown up 2 out of 4 days of full work time (Day 1 showed up around 10, Day 2 no show until I called, Day 3 - no work, Day 4 no show until I called and then showed up at 12:55). They have painted over wall outlets and over light fixtures. At the baseboards, some areas are not painted at all. One room still requires an additional coat because you can still see the previous blue paint showing through the new paint. They started painting before they even started repairing one full wall of drywall repair. I have no idea how they think that is going to work, but we'll see. The owner is fairly non-responsive to complaints about no-shows. And absolutely non-responsive to requests for an invoice for submitting for an insurance claim (related to the need for the flashing repair and drywall repair). I've never seen such indifference to customer concerns. It is almost a talent of epic proportions. read more

Job: Sidings Job scheduled to start October 30, 2017. Job started on Dec 1, 2017. Ruth always called to delay the work with different excuses (reasons: bad weather, 3X; running behind on other project before starting mine; trying to complete other project before finishing mine). Insufficient material was ordered due to wrong estimate. Wrong size shutters ordered. 2 month after telling them about the shutters, still haven't placed the order for the right size. No visibility of the project from the management. Not even a phone call. Travis came over on the first day..... 2nd contact was on Feb 26, 2018 to tell me that they just placed the order for the shutters....after more than 2 months. At first, I was thrilled. They started the job way before I was expecting and the two people that I dealt with were personable. However, they did not stay true to the contract and my complaints and concerns were not settled. As far as I know, they are still trying to collect more money for work that wasn't done. We paid an initial 1,000.00 down before any work commenced. I am still currently unsatisfied, but my roof does look so much better than it did. I ended up doing further work that we probably would've hired them to do if we had been satisfied. read more

I had them replace a fence for me. First, they sent some drunk off the street to do the job. Then they used the lowest quality material for the job. Two months later the gates were out of alignment and would not close properly. After three attempts the problem was not resolved. One and a half years later the fencing is pulling away from the posts and the top pieces are popping loose. On two occasions Ray Carter told me that someone was coming to make the repairs and no one showed up; no phone call or nothing. They do poor work, use low quality material and customer service is lousy. I would recommend that you not even let them build a dog house for you. read more

I had over six estimates done for a new roof installation on my house. I went with QBE because they had wonderful reviews, and Rich was personable and friendly. I was assured that we would receive the best service possible, and was nervous as this was our first big purchase after buying our home. If I did it over again I do not think I'd hire QBE again. I'm not sure where the disconnect was, but there were major communication issues. The team that arrived at my home was very sloppy and unprofessional. They threw cigarettes in my yard, trampled my garden, removed tarps after my family left the property, and left a massive amount of nails behind. Apparently, they did not alert Rich that they ran out of shingle which resulted in an extra day on the roof. Then, there were the damages incurred. They cracked the trim on my cape cod windows and on the porch. They somehow bent the gutter and it was partially hanging off the front porch. They left shreds of the roof hanging from the sides. Amber, who was very very responsive, called from the office and that seemed to set a bit of a fire. Rich came out and fixed the damage, but this took a few more days. Overall what should have been a simple job turned into a drawn out and discouraging process. Does my roof look awesome? Absolutely. But I feel as though it could have been managed in a more professional and efficient manner. I highly suggest that QBE send out a manager to oversee the jobs so that this doesn't happen again. read more

My husband and I decided to take on a big project to fully re-side the outside of our house. Quality Built Exteriors offered us a reasonable quote and as soon as we signed a contract, the work seemed to start rolling. The crew that came over to work on our house was efficient and professional, working long hours to finish the job. We had a lot of rotted original wood that got fully replaced and wrapped with vinyl. We also got all new gutters. This whole process was relatively quick despite all the work we got done. When we noticed some minor problems along the way, Ross worked with us to find a way to fix them, which is the main reason I'd recommend this company. The house is now complete and looks amazing; practically like a brand new house! read more

If you are considering Quality Built Exteriors I would advise strongly against. They did a deck for me three years ago which is terrible. I am having to repair multiple issues such as cupping, poor craftsmanship, incorrect fastener usage. I reviewed them as terrible then and now that I am spending more money to replace, I am reminded of how bad the crew was. These guys are terrible. I do not recommend. Garbage!!!! They started charging me before the fence was installed, no communication was established to inform us of our install date until I tracked the company down, thier workmanship sucks, the installers are not as knowledgeable as they should be, and my fence was not built according to the lot survey that was provided. During the installation process thier was a lot of miscommunication. They have already been out to my house to fix numerous issues already. Now I have the Homeowners Association breathing down my neck about my fence being 14 feet over the property line. Per Ms. Ray the lady who sold us the fence, she stated that the owner is not responsible and will not be fixing the fence. They built my neighbor's fence and they had similar issues. I will not use this company again and I do not recommend them to anyone unless you want a big headache!!!!! read more

They installed a privacy fence for us and the installer accidentally severed our internet cable causing me to lose time from work and I work from home. So Rich came out June 14th, and was a couple hours late to start with because he forgot he had an appointment with me. After a quick discussion and course of action was settled on, I never received a quote at all. I contacted him June 21st about it and he said he had been busy but would get back to me that day or the next. After still hearing nothing I called the main office to find out what was going on. Supposedly, the lady who answered the phone said she would pass on the message to one of the managers. I still heard nothing after several days and tried to call again, and got the same response. Here it is, 5 July and I have heard nothing in response still. Obviously this company doesn't care if they get my business or not. We shopped around for new windows for our over 60 year old house and landed on Quality Built Exteriors to do the job. Our salesperson, Jesse, was very knowledgeable and willing to work with us on the price. We ended up replacing every window in the home (most had to be custom cut) and could not be happier. The windows came out looking fantastic and the whole process went very smoothly. QBE uses Soft-Lite Windows for its replacements and they come with a lifetime warranty. That combined with an excellent price made this one of the best renovations we've done to the house so far! I would definitely recommend them if you are looking to replace old windows or modernize exisiting ones in the Chesapeake area. read more

The prices on both quotes were extremely reasonable. After signing the contract, materials were delivered and work started within a week. Larry did a great job replacing the skylights, chimney siding, chimney cap, and roofing over the sun room and even took pictures during the process to explain the repairs made. In April, I contacted QBE to get a quote to replace my backyard fence, install a small 11' x 12' brick patio, and build a small four-step staircase to descend from my house to my existing patio in my backyard. I had no referrals and basically decided to use QBE because I was impressed by their marketing team, who had visited my place of work with a few well-made brochures. Little did I know at the time that a simple job would turn into a months-long fiasco with some of the sloppiest work and worst communication I have seen in my life. The person assigned to my project initially, DJ, arrived at my house by jumping his pickup truck onto the curb and popping a tire, after which he sauntered into the backyard and took some measurements (which later turned out to be completely inaccurate) and made some recommendations regarding my fence material. I told him exactly what I wanted and he said it should be no problem. That was the last measure of assuredness I received from this company. After several weeks of ZERO followup from QBE- I had to consistently call them to check in- we finally scheduled the fence replacement. The day they were supposed to begin, nobody showed. I called them to ask why no one had come. They said they were "waiting on materials." The material in question were red cedar pickets and basic 2x4s, which were unceremoniously dumped by a HOME DEPOT TRUCK AT 11:45PM several days after the work was scheduled to begin. Yep, a Home Depot driver literally dragged the materials onto my driveway with a dolly, dropped them in the mud, and took off. They didn't even offer to take it to the backyard where it would be kept safe. A few days later, after at least two more no-shows, the fence guys arrived and started work. They were supposed to build a shadow box fence with the red cedar pickets. Not rocket science. However, what I ended up with was 16-18 split/cracked pickets, huge clumps of dirt and concrete mixture left lying around, nails everywhere (I had to actually go into my backyard with a metal detector to find all of them lest my kids step on a nail in their bare feet), and there were about 60 cigarette butts thrown all over the yard. To compound matters, they didn't even build it correctly- there were pickets that were unevenly spaced, damaged from the nail gun, exposed 2x4s all over the place, and the gate they installed literally DRAGGED on the ground and stuck when trying to open/close it. I would have had a better installation hiring teenagers with no fence experience than these clowns. After the work was done, I called and asked the lady who handles their calls what the heck was going on, and I was given the run-around. TJ hadn't made the correct measurements, nobody knew who these installers were because they were new hires, he hadn't ordered enough materials, etc. A few days before, after having tried to reach them several times to find out what was taking the patio guys so long to schedule, I was told that their patio guy no longer worked there. I'm actually glad that happened because the $3460 they were going to charge me for the patio was quoted at $2400 from another company who did excellent work. At this point, I was worried that they would also fail miserably putting together the steps, but hey, stupid me, I had paid them in advance... Their carpenter came to my house while I was at work (after many postponed days too numerous to mention). From what my wife told me, he completed the steps in two hours. Since I had given particular directions to TJ about how I needed the steps to be built (portable staircase frame, lattice on the sides, closed steps to prevent animals from getting into the crawlspace which would be located directly underneath where the steps are positioned), I was really worried... Sure enough, when I got home I saw one of the most absurdly unprofessional carpentry jobs I have ever encountered. There before me were floating steps, unusually wide and creaking even though they had been vigorously nail-gunned together (the nail gun must have been set to HIGH VELOCITY because they were driven so hard into the lumber the boards were on the verge of splitting), the lattice was haphazardly cut and pasted onto the sides and didn't even match up flush with the stair angles, meaning giant splintered shards of wood were jutting over the edge of the staircase for anyone to step on and cut their feet open, the railing was literally a 2x4 nail-gunned to two posts, without any resemblance to the beautiful railing that had been there before, and the balusters were scrap-wood 1"x2" planks that were just slapped on rather than inset. I was bewildered at how incompetently this job was handled. Thankfully, the master carpenter came out a few days later and completely reconstructed the steps to my specifications, but even after he left I still had to marvel at the sloppiness of the overall work. QBX did a fantastic job on my home. I needed new roofs on both my house and my shed, as well as a new rake board and flashing on one side of the house where a chimney used to be. Their quote was not the cheapest, but they did so much extra small work that the extra cost was worth it. The roofs look great and so does the rake board. The worker was very apologetic, because he couldn't find flashing that matched the existing color exactly, but from the street, you can't even tell! It looks superb. The only gripe I have is that the work crew either wasn't told about the shed roof replacement, or they forgot to do it once the other work wrapped up. In any case, I had to call QBX the next day to have the work crew come back out. Once they did, they finished the shed job quickly and with care. read more

I Contacted company on behalf of Home Owners association for new roofs. They seemed incapable of just putting together a quote. It was weird like we were trying to scam them out of a quote. Spoke to one person TJ and then had to repeat to owner Mike. Mike stared at me like I had 3 heads. I had to follow up with them a week later and TJ claims he misplaced my email but Mike had seen it. The entire interaction was bizarre. I called other companies for quotes and the process was much smoother. read more
