I decided to establish a scale for rating hotels and motels. I apply the same scale for "luxury" hotels as well as economy motels as I stay in all types depending on where I am traveling and the purpose. After cleanliness there is no particular order. 1. Cleanliness YES 2. Comfort of bed. GOID 3. Comfort of pillows. Are there both firm and soft available. GOOD BOTH ARE ON THE BED 4. How new is the room decor and fixtures. FRESH 5. Quality of room. This includes size, temperature, smell, lighting. THERE IS A SLIGHT ODOR OF CIGARETTE BUT OTHERWISE IT IS GOOD 6. Quality of bathroom. This includes size, lighting, ventilation. THE VANITY IS OUTSIDE THE BATHROOM AREA AND THE TOILET AND TUB FEEL CROWDED 7. Bathroom amenities. These include magnifying mirror, presentation, quantity and quality of toiletries. Softness of tissue and towels. AVERAGE 8. Friendliness of staff. PLEASANT 9. Noise. Road noise, adjacent room noise, air conditioner noise. QUIET 10. Price. Was it worth the price I paid all things considered? This includes proximity to conferences and activities. YES The pool was closed for the season. The breakfast was average. It included hot options and a few cereals. One of the best things about the room was that the window opened so we could get fresh air!

Checking in was easy and quick. The front desk people were nice. We got to our room and the air wasnt on, so it was pretty warm. The sink was outside the bathroom and inside the bedroom part. Which was right beside one of the beds. We did find a bug on one of the beds, there was a roach in my coffee from the night before, there was also a dead roach on the dresser under the tv. Which was disgusting! The pool was nice and outside. Not many people out there. There were tables and chairs around the pool. We went to breakfast which came with staying at the hotel. It was packed and the one cook couldnt keep up with the food. There was NO hot food the whole 30 minutes we waited. They did have oranges and apples, and three cereals. The orange juice, apple juice, and water were all out and needed refills. They did refill everything but the water. But only when we asked. I dont recommend this hotel and am very disappointed.

The bed looked like it had been slept on.

Came to this hotel for just one night. What a mess. This is an old dingy, and not kept up Hotel. The minute we walked into the room. You could smell a nasty musty odor. The bed looked like it had been slept in. The sink was cracked and needed repairs. The entire room renovation. I would not recommend this hotel. See the pictures

This is the best economy lodging of our vacation. Rooms are big, beds comfortable, and breakfast buffet the best of our trip. No styrofoam and plastic. Lots of food selection; precooked waffles and pancakes. (No waiting for the waffle iron). Real scrambled eggs. Hash browns, sausage, biscuits and gravy, large choice of pastries, and cereals. On top of that, there is a full service restaurant for dinner

    The essentials !!!!

No frills, dated older place which smelled like mold each time that I walked into the building. Room was clean.

The hotel is updating their furniture and the staff were very accommodating to my family. The breakfast buffet was outstanding.

Love this place! The staff was friendly and it was a great stop on the way to Steamboat Springs. Would definitely stay here again.

Horizon Drive is the main access to the Grand Junction airport north of I-70 and an almost direct access south to downtown. Rates are always reasonable. This time, I reserved thru Expedia and got my room with a queen bed for $88 each for 2 nights and my 3rd night for $63 + the various taxes. They accept pets, but charge a stiff deposit I have never needed to change rooms. All inside doors to the rooms. The breakfast space is simple, but several local restaurants are nearby.

We were given room 101 which was right on the corner and so there were three doors that constantly slammed right by our room door as people came in and out. The vending and ice machine were right outside our door too so things were loud. I'd ask for a different room next time. There is no carpet on the first floor and our large dog is afraid of hard flooring so we had to keep his shoes on the whole time so he could get around the room and in and out to go to the bathroom. The room looked to be an accessible room. It was spacious. Though if someone uses a wheelchair, I could see some obstacles - The opening between the toilet and the sink is slim so it would be difficult to fit a chair between them. The toilet paper is hard to reach from the toilet for anyone. It's a tub so you'd need a shower chair. There is a railing in the shower. We had a king sized bed that was really very comfortable. There was a fridge and microwave and coffee pot. Some things in the room looked updated. Newish paint and floors. We liked the decor on the room walls. (See photos). The room was clean. Great water pressure in the shower. Water leaked out past the shower curtains onto the floor way too easily. The floor was soaked. The bathroom drain made weird noises on and off. Not sure if it was the shower, the sink or the pipes. The air condition worked well and helped to drown out the door slamming sound a bit. Which happened all morning long. We didn't check out the Continental breakfast because there is rarely anything we can eat at hotels. We eat healthy, plant based diets. You'd think it would be easy enough to offer sourdough bread, fresh cut fruit, dairy free oatmeal, potatoes without butter. I'd stay again if we passed through. Love that they are dog friendly.

A Surprisingly Cool Spot in Grand Junction…read more We decided to stay at The Melrose on a quick trip to Grand Junction--and I'm so glad we did. Everything is keyless (no front desk!), and you use your phone for entry and concierge contact. Super modern and smooth from check-in to checkout. The first night felt almost eerie... like I was the only guest! It was that quiet. I wandered around downtown, grabbed dinner, and when I came back, I started seeing a few other people. The outdoor area was a gem--relaxing by the firepit under the glow of the neon rose sign was the perfect way to unwind. Parking is conveniently located in the lot to the left of the building. It's paid, but easy to use through the app--averaging about $10 a day. By the second night, the energy picked up a bit. The bar onsite had opened--but closed before I could make it back out. Thankfully, on my final night, I caught the last 30 minutes and got to enjoy two fantastic cocktails served in these fun, festive ceramic mugs. The drinks felt handmade, and the bartenders were super friendly. Lots of guests and even locals seemed to enjoy the outdoor space with drinks in hand, which gave it a relaxed, social vibe. Inside, I stayed in a double room--huge, clean, and very comfortable. The bathroom was modern, and I appreciated having a fridge and coffee pot. The only tiny hiccup: it took me a bit to locate the outlets, but once I did, all good! We're actually heading back over the 4th of July weekend and booked a smaller room this time to compare. I'm hoping we can make it back in time to enjoy the cocktail bar again--though I do wish their hours were a bit longer. It closes pretty early, and it's definitely a feature worth lingering over. All in all, The Melrose is a fun, stylish stay with a great location and one of the better vibes I've experienced at a boutique spot like this. Would definitely recommend!

We arrived late afternoon on August 2nd after driving all the way from L.A. in one day. Strike #1 - When we pull into the driveway it looked like a guy on drugs was playing on one of the parking lot security gates. The ones that raise and lower for you to go past. We told the clerk at the front desk, but we were concerned about my car after that. Strike #2 - Located right next to the Convention Center. If they have big events there it will be really loud if your room is on that side of the hotel. We could hear loud noise until late at night. Strike #3 - The hotel is dingy and really needs to be renovated. It's a step up from the one in Cherry Creek/Denver, but still bad.

Fairly quiet, decent breakfast, great staff with awesome customer service. Love the location too, easy access to all the Main Street restaurants and shopping. The pool and gym were small but clean and we had an opportunity to use both this time when we stayed over the Labor Day weekend. Love the dual waffle makers and two different waffle batters as well. Overall the food was ample and tasty. Nothing super fancy but definitely checked all the breakfast items. The only thing was that this is not a newly remodeled location so some items might be a little bit worn down. The mirror in our bathroom had some rusty spots in the corners, the bottom of the door frame in the bathroom looked a little bit puffy, like the plywood had moisture damage... We stayed in a double queen and one of the beds is slightly lumpy/uneven, we got the same feedback from another couple who stayed in a king room. The linen smelled and looked clean, no hair, no dust on furniture... overall I think the cleanliness was there, just need a refresh with maybe an update/remodel order from HQ. All the employees were kind and easy to work with. We had a situation with another couple in our group where their door battery went out, they were able to open the door and provide another room in a jiffy, and helped them with a little discount due to the inconvenience where they didn't have to do that. We're grateful for the overall experience and will definitely be back again when staying in GJ next time.
