Very efficient in helping to find a family, making sure things went well. Communication is also great so there is clear understanding.

@CulturalCare I…read morewrote this on the main page...which of course got deleted immediately... Since I'm getting no replies to my multiple emails and I'm frustrated since no one returns calls, I'm going to post on here and see if anyone will help me. I'm feeling extremely let down by cultural Care...for a variety of reasons. I think the company needs to address concerns and have better means of communication...and return money when money is due... I feel like I've just been scammed...and it is entirely the same thing when you are promised something (an au pair) but what you get is a neglectful child who borderline abuses your children...so you ask for a new au pair and try to re-match after 5 months but you get no support during that process so you decide to take a break and hire a nanny. During this time you are finally able to reach someone from cultural care, who assures you that you have two years to use the unused money in your account towards a new au pair or for a credit (they only give you 40% back...don't forget to read the fine print). So fine, 9months later we try again only to find out that if not taken as a credit in the first 6 months you apparently lose all the money you paid for an au pair. It's a scam...and I'm not ok with this.

Think getting an Au Pair will solve your childcare issues? It might work, you may have great…read moresuccess. You also might be a Chinese jet pilot, win the lottery, or find some nice warm candy in your pocket...But when life with your au pair goes south, you'll wish you had given it a second thought...and cultural care won't lift a finger to help you! My wife and I moved to Northern Virginia last summer. We had a 6 month old child at the time...we both have an adventurous point of view and our fiscal assessment of nannies vs. au pairs was good (au pairs seem way cheaper) so we jumped right in! We got hooked up with Cultural Care and started screening au pairs. Our au pair arrived in June of 2014 and everything was great for a few months...then things started "getting real." 1. Be warned - Families have NO advocate in the resolution process! Fast forward to the end of the au pair arrangement for our family. In the first year, we took our au pair on 3 all-expense paid vacations (Lake Tahoe, Bermuda, and a Christmas road trip). We took her other au pair friend with us on one vacation when her host family went out of town. We also sent our au pair home to Brazil (bought her an airline ticket for $1500) for two weeks. We worked hard to treat her like a member of our family. Our Au pair said she was enjoying her time in the U.S. so she agreed to stay on for an extra year. After all, at only $200 a week, once the "buy in cost" is paid, au pairs are relatively cheap. She then spent all of her vacation time and took an advance on her pay. 3 months into our extra year (a $6000 renewal cost with cultural care) my family and I planned a trip to Barcelona, Spain. There were 6 adults and our child going, so we did not take our au pair. This pissed our au pair off as she was expecting a trip to Barcelona. She subsequently left while we were in Spain taking with her a $400 tablet we left at home. She left with little more than a note telling us how we mistreated her by not getting her enough food. Home we come after a 20 hour plane ride with a screaming baby...we arrived home to a stolen tablet, an empty house, scrambling to find child care. There are three elements of this au pair process...the company that facilitates finding the Au Pair (in this case Cultural Care, but there are other companies), the Au Pair, and the family requesting services. The only one of these three that cares about you and your family is YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. When we called cultural care to tell them that our au pair had vanished like a fart in the wind they were very conciliatory "ohhhh wow, I've never heard of that before" and "ohhh that is so difficult". They did nothing to help. They offered to "re match" us with another au pair...a process which takes weeks (best case scenario) and leads to another lazy au pair showing up and leaving town with our electronics...so we passed on a re-match. We told Cultural Care "no thanks, just give us our money back." Of the $6K we paid for year two, we got less than half back. This was after promising us $4700 back, the company changed their mind and looked at the contract and decided we rated $2700. I asked cultural care to get the money from the disappeared au pair at her home in Brazil...they refused. The au pair broke the contract, not my family and I, and we were still the ones to pay for it. 2 Our Au Pair was okay with our daughter, but Au Pairs can be VERY lazy. Our au pair was from Brazil, so maybe it's a cultural thing...but we were constantly on her to do the simplest of tasks for our kid. Keep in mind, these were things she signed up to do, they were in the job description. She would blow them off routinely. This made for a difficult home life with a live in nanny that doesn't do her job. This required us to constantly stay on her to do the simplest of tasks like "fold the baby's laundry" or "empty the overflowing diaper bucket!" She didn't do much unless we harassed her because she knew she couldn't be fired or kicked out of the house...she knew we couldn't withhold pay because that was written into the contract. With any issues between a family and the au pair, a mediator is required to step in and adjudicate the issue BEFORE pay is withheld. News flash, the mediator works for the company, and the company makes money on au pairs...so mediators don't side with the family very often. Hence, the au pair mafia is strong and the au pairs all talk to one another. Its common knowledge in au pair circles that you don't have to work hard because a host family cannot hold out on pay. Don't think it's possible? Ask yourself this...Know any 18-25 year olds? Do they work hard? Do they work hard when they have guaranteed payment, room and board, and a giant stable of other au pair friends? The moral of the story: Au pairs - When it's good, its great. But if an au pair relationship goes sideways you will pay for it with every second of your day!
