Funny thing, when my husband took a similar pair of work boots to the Shop over a year ago, the husband(owner) took a look at the boots and stitched them up on the spot in 15 minutes, and my husband was out the door at a fraction of the cost. I brought in my favorite pair of boots, the leather sole had worn through. They ended up fixing the damage and added a rubber sole that is a lot more durable. I took my old (at least 15 yo) Ariats in which were barely holding on and I probably could have pushed my foot straight through the sole. The heels also needed some TLC. I was quoted $150- that took me back a little bit. But I love these and Ariats are definitely worth it. I picked them up about 2 weeks later and they look amazing! Until this morning I would have highly recommended this shop. Despite the fact that it is always filled with cigarette smoke, the guy does good work. This morning, however, I brought in a pair of birkenstocks that need new soles. He quoted me at $75. Since new ones are selling for less than double, I said, "Thanks, but for that price I'll just get a new pair." Then he started yelling at me about how I wasn't supporting small business and that whatever I would buy for less than $170 would be knock off trash. That might be true, but this guy just lost a long time customer. I'm a time when most people just throw shoes out, I've had my Allen Edmonds resoled twice by him. I've also brought in a pair of my partner's heels, and my Danner hunting boots. Now I need to find another cobbler. I suggest you do the same. I have been going to Quality for many years. Im not sure when the new owner purchased the business but I have been a customer of theirs since they took over. Although they we were a little overpriced and and a bit "rough around the edges," I had no complaints, until today. I arrived around noon. No one was at the counter and the lights in the shop in back were off. I thought they might be closing early. I yelled back "Hey, is anyone here." Soon thereafter, the owner emerged from the back and lauched into a tirade. "Who the hell are you coming into my store and yelling at me, what am I your fucking n-word" Yes. He said that. Jaw drop! The owner of this establishment is rube, loud and argumentative! Not only is this business unorganized, good luck getting back your shoes the way you wanted them repaired. He doesn't follow instructions and will repair your shoes as "he" deems fit. His pride, arrogance and insecurity are so big he will not honor your complaints when he is "clearly" at fault. Dropped off a pair of 3 month old Danner boots to have some cut threads replaced (cut while working but no damage to leather). Apart from the threads on the one area of the boots, they are in good shape. Without even looking at the boots the owner originally said they were just worn out and junk and I should buy new ones. After I handed him the boots and he actually looked at them, he said he could replace the threads and for an additional $15 would clean both of them. He said he would need to remove the lace eyelets to stitch them which I said was fine. I agreed to his price and paid upfront (big mistake). A week later I went in to pick up the shoes. I grabbed them, he sold me some leather conditioner for them and I left. Later that day I took the shoes out and actually looked at his repair. It was absolutely horrible. There were now holes in the leather where he apparently attempted to stitch it on his machine without removing the eyelets and completely missed the seams he was to be repairing. He must have ripped out those threads and attempted to stitch it by hand. Those stitches were loose, uneven, and missing in some areas. There was also glue all over the shoes. Upon seeing this, I decided to return to the store. I walked into the store and he obviously recognized me and asked how he could help. I told him that I was disappointed in the repair and attempted to show him the issues. At this point the owner proceeded to call me a mother f**ker, said that there's only 3,000 cobblers left in the US and it's because of f**king ass holes like me. He then told me that he wasn't giving g me anything and to get the f**k out of his store. I told him that I didn't want a refund and that I just wanted them repaired correctly. He then told me that he had been in jail 3 times and that guys like me would get f**ked in the ass in jail. Not sure where that came from but I guess he's just mad at the world. At that point he picked up my shoes and threw them out the front door onto the sidewalk and threatened to kill me. During this entire exchange, I never raised my voice. I never yelled at him. I never insulted him. I never threatened him in any way. This is the most unprofessional establishment I've ever been to in my life. I thought I would help out a small business in the city but this places deserves to go out of business immediately before the crazy owner kills someone. The police were contacted due to the death threat. Since he didn't actually touch me, theres nothing legally they could do but they said they are already aware of this owner. Drive by shop but closed for the day. 1/12 take stained boot early before work. MR- what now?! ME- the spot from yesterday is worse. I attempted to tell him if spot was there originally I'd asked and paid to clean it (said it a couple of times, he kept talking over and berating me). Hastily grabs boot from the counter to clean it, gives me blue ticket, "come back in 3 days!" ME- don't clean if its going to be even worse! MR- I'm cleaning the whole boot!! ME- I only want spot treated (had to raise my voice because he's towards back of shop, there's a tv on wall near front counter and kept talking over me refusing to listen). MR- you just wont shut up..nobody can do what I do.. find someone else". ME- I'll gladly find someone else..grabbed my phone to record (audio, no video). He can be heard speaking rudely to me saying he doesn't care about my review (I never mentioned anything about a review.. BUT, here it is). ME- wow, talk to all your customers like that ?? THEN! He admits to it.. "I do talk to my customers rude because no one can do what I do!" (shows me random shoe with a worn heel).. "you wanna fix that?!" Before recording he offered me my money back but he had grabbed it and started cleaning. I stated I don't want it to turn out even worse. He repeats he's cleaning the whole boot. I said ONLY the spot (neither of the boots needed cleaning, in fact, Mrs never suggested it when I first dropped them off.. actually the heels could've waited another couple of seasons since I wear only thru wintertime). His argument was me telling him how to do his job! LOL, nope, just wanted the spot that happened while in his shop to be cleaned. Told him if it turns out worse I want my money back, he said he wouldn't because he's a liar (recorded). Finally got the boot back. He yelled, cussed, and insulted me as I walked away (also on recording). Funny how there's several other dissatisfied customer reviews with similar experiences. Smudge/spots that weren't there when items were dropped off, plus rude yelling and berating customers who point out a problem with the service.. a serious, unreasonable hot head! You explained that it was dry rot, and that you could fix it. Again, a display of expertise! I was stoked. So when I came to pick them up, I was shocked to see this black smudge along the sides of my boots. It looked like the repairman haphazardly sloped on the shoe goo. I didn't know what to say. I mean, they are hiking boots, after all. They're mean to get dirty. Still, something didn't feel right. I mean, shoe goo was all over my boots. I'll simply say I had a DANGEROUS experience while picking up something for someone else, and the workmanship was defunct. They were supposed to call before doing any work with a plan and cost, and the female owner forgot and admitted that. That's fine, I get that. However, The male owner verbally assaulted me. And that's putting it mildly. I didn't even say anything to him, he kept putting words in my mouth and making assumptions. He knew nothing about our conversation(s) but acted like he knew everything. He was literally screaming at me, calling me names, spittling/frothing everywhere. He called me a 'fucking idiot' even though I didn't say anything to him. He was just on a rant. Accusing me of trying to rob a poor cobbler for $35.00. His wife kept telling him to stop and go in the the back, but he just kept on. They were both screaming at that point. I know she was extremely embarrassed by him. All I could do was gape at his psychotic episode! The wife tried her best to be helpful. I feel for her. She refunded me and I appreciate her efforts. It's a long one, but definitely worth the read before taking your items to this shop. In January of 2023 I brought in a pair of leather soled cowboy boots to be re-soled, I was told it was no problem to have them done and I picked them up approximately a week after dropping them off with no issues. About two months after that I brought in a second pair with a split on the toe and asked for a cap to be placed on the boot but they told me they could repair the boot without the cap and it would hold up just as good, so I agreed and I picked up that second pair again about a week later. Sadly, after 6hrs of wear they were split open again, very unfortunate. At the same time, we noticed the soles were beginning to peal off the first pair that was done back in January. After some messages back and forth with the owner they agreed to re-fasten the soles to the first pair and place caps on the second pair with the split for a discounted cost. All was well and good until I walked into the shop with the boots, they said they would fix. The lady recognized me and the boots from my previous visits and we greeted each other kindly, I went over our concerns with the boots and referenced the message exchange she had with my boyfriend. Then she began looking over the first pair of boots claiming that the soles were not peeling so I held up the second one and showed her where the material was separating from the bottom of the boot and genuinely asked "is this not considered peeling?" the new leather was separating from the bottom of the boot to the point where the was nearly a 1" gap beginning to form. After asking the question she began raising her voice claiming that they did not do this work, even though just moments before she had acknowledged remembering me and the boots. Then her husband came into the store and began yelling at me saying it wasn't his work and I politely reiterated to them that it was in fact their work and that I had not taken these shoes anywhere but their shop. The man took those boots to the back all while yelling at me from there that this was not his work, at this point his wife then began to yell at me calling me a liar and a f**king b**ch. She started to threaten to call the cops on me because I would not leave the store while they were still in possession of my boots. I told her I was not leaving the store without my items and that is when she got in my face continuing to scream at me for being disrespectful and that I was lying about them doing the work. Her husband then came back up to the front counter with the boots that he went to "reattach" the soles on, I use that term loosely because all he did was dab a few drops of what looked like super glue on them. He then stood there continuing to scream at me, getting in my face calling me a liar, a fat ugly c*nt, and a f**king b**ch. The wife all but threw my boots back at me across the counter and the pair of them continued to scream and call me names chasseing me out of their shop then slammed the door on me. They were screaming at me so loudly that people had come out of the bar two doors down to see what was going on and several people on the street stopped to check on me. I have never been so disrespected in my entire life, I worked in retail for several years and had shoplifters speak to me kindlier than these business owners. She had used the bag daily for years and it was all scratched up, one of the anchors for the shoulder strap had fallen off and the other was coming unstitched. Decided to dye to cover the ink. It is now a GORGEOUS shade between cobalt and indigo. I can see a tiny speck of the ink if I hunt really hard. If you do this, remember that you will likely get some staining on the lining. I knew that going in, and was told that by multiple places. I really hate to write this review because the owner and his wife are so very sweet. I've used them a few times in the past to repair my heels. They do a good job with these. I recently brought in 2 bags for zipper repair. One was a Tumi bag the other a retro Coach purse. They require that you prepay. I paid $120. The quality of the work on the purses was sub-par primarily because of the stitching. I've attached pics of the workmanship so that you can see for yourself. Again, I regret having to leave this review because he said he spent a lot of work on it but with that type of stitchwork on leather the bags are permanently damaged now. This owner is insanely CRAZY! Before the Christmas holiday, I took 2-identical pair of my favorite Italian business shoes ('Cable Car'/1-black pair, 1-brown) in for some minor refurbishing to include a patch on the inside heel, a little glue for the sole and a good buffing. I paid $70.00 which I almost questioned as a little steep. Told to pick up after the holidays, no problem I said. The woman (guess his wife) hand wrote the ticket. Came back, picked up both, wore only the black pair once to work in DC/after taking metro in (beautiful day). Noticed both soles at toe slightly coming apart. I took back without original receipt (BIG MISTAKE!) the cobbler made a snide comment, "I must have worn them in the rain" but said don't worry about the receipt (like he remembered me) Few weeks later went to pick them up. I walked into his shop, noticed my shoes on the shelf. The guy came out from the back with fire in his eyes, instantly calling me a "THEIF!" I said, "what the hell are you talking about?". He threw the shoes at me and proceeded to say, "I never paid to fix these shoes!", he continued to state, "these weren't his brand of soles that were on the shoes". I said, "YOURE CRAZY!! "I know they're not your soles you idiot!" "I never asked you to put new soles on either pair of shoes". (I had these shoes over a course of 15-yrs and had them resoled at previous establishments/again my favorite Italian business shoes) I asked, "Where was the lady who wrote up the original ticket for the 2-pair?" He insisted there was no other repair and screamed, "Get out of my store you thief!" (as he followed me out to the street) "How could I be so low as to steal from a lonely cobbler?" then he saw my BMW parked on the side street and proceeded to throw that in my face in front of all these pedestrians on the sidewalk. I became so unnerved about this whole situation; I just couldn't believe this guy was accusing me of stealing from his business. My day was completely ruined. I yelled back, "You need to find a more efficient accounting method because obviously this one isn't working, and you just lost my business" (and I hope others who are reading this) Ps. DANGEROUS-STAY AWAY. Had a bag fixed incorrectly when I tried to explain I was given as attitude by owners wife, I asked for a refund when she refused to let me speak to cobbler about how to fix it. When I asked for a refund the owner came screaming at me. I left store slamming door behind me to get away from him yelling at me and he followed me onto the street threatening to "kick my ass"-I am a 34 yr old female and was alone. I immediately called the police from the street and made it to my car... as I sat in my car owner continued to scream at me about kicking my ass. Dispatch heard his threats and yelling and I was told to lock myself in my car with windows up until the police arrived and to call back if he came near me. Absolute A-hole on the phone. Called to see if they would be interested in restoring an old Brooks bike seat. Guy told me I was wasting his time and mine by being on the phone. All I was trying to find out is if they were interested and able. Tried to give me a guilt trip about there only being 5,000 cobblers left. How do people like this stay in business. I called and inquired about whether they were able to secure taps to tap shoes which I was assured they do as long as I supply the taps which is customary for all show services. Upon receiving the shoes, the taps were positioned incorrectly and unevenly. The heel taps especially were extremely loose and the screw heads having been stripped were impossible to screw in any farther. The heads were also left popping out too far which would no doubt ruin any floor I would be tapping on. Although the service was quick and the price was low, this was not quality. And quality is the name of your business. The end product was overall unacceptable and unusable. Very disappointed as this was my first time using your services. read more
