We went…read morelast year because we read that they keep them in water which is different than what we've purchased before. This year the beautiful tree we purchased did not have any water in it. I thought maybe they had skipped it when adding water and when I mentioned it, he assured me that it was not dried up. It did not seem dry and it was beautiful so we went ahead and bought it. I don't believe they cut enough off when they gave it a fresh cut. I did notice that it wasn't much. We went straight home (10 minutes away) and put it in water but it never took any water even after a few days. Usually they take a lot if they've not had any and had a fresh cut. We took all the decor off and gave it a good 3-4" cut but it was too far gone...still not water taken. Make sure you buy one that is in water and/or also give it a good cut when you get it home. We paid too much for the tree for it to not last through the season. Lesson learned...the fresh cut matters maybe more than it being kept in water.

To get good results, you have to pay attention to the details. Just like a quality thermometer to pull that brisket at the right time, you need quality clean burning dry wood. I have a box of Smoak Firewood cherry, white oak, hickory and pecan at the ready at all times, if I get an urge to grill out or smoke on my PK360 or Cookshack. Every box appears to be hand picked, and clean and fresh but most importantly it's kiln dried. Having several boxes at the ready allows me to pick and match the wood to the thing I'm cooking. The owner Amy and staff are incredible folks that can answer any questions you have and even provide appropriately sized pieces. I'd much rather give my money to a local small business like this. If I'm remembering right, I believe they also supply several restaurants with cooking wood. This wood is even packaged so nice, it would be a great gift for a foodie! If you need some on a Saturday or while in Newnan or Sharpsburg it's also available at Cleaver & Cork.

It was a little more expensive than some, but the quality is better than anything I've had before. Why does that matter? It starts easily but burns much longer. The pieces aren't from a trash tree, no rotten sections, perfectly split and clean. My full wood rack will last much longer than the cheaper products I've used in the past. I am a huge fan.

I just had my first experience with Hickey's Tree Service today. I had a huge tree that came down,…read moreknocked down my fence, and extended most of its length into a neighbor's backyard. I called Hickey's Tree Service on the recommendation of a friend, and in less than an hour, Gene Hickey was here. He checked out the job and gave us a quote which we accepted. Today, he and one of his crew came to remove the tree from the neighbors yard. They did it within 30 minutes. And it was a very large pine tree. Then there was another small tree that had fallen on the fence as well, and they removed it without me even knowing it. Then, when I went out to give him his check, he said that he and his guy were concerned about a dead cherry tree close to my fence which would threaten my daughter's car if it fell down. We had discussed that the day before, but we weren't ready to afford to have that tree taken down as well. Gene said that the job went so well, that he would take that tree down for free. Who in the world does anything for free these days? Talk about Honorable! Talk about someone I would totally trust! Hickey's Tree Service has my business for as long as I have trees, and I have probably 25 or more on my own property, plus all my neighbors are very timber-wealthy as well. Such a cool place with all sorts of pickled goodness, jams, fresh veggies along with burgers and brisket sandwiches for sale. I didn't partake in the burgers/sandwiches this time but they smelled delicious and I will be back to try them. I did pick up a few pickled items an and few fresh veggies all of which were phenomenal - great quality. The people were super friendly and helpful. A little hard to see off the road and parking can be tricky if there are a few cars in the lot.
