They've got all the typical stock you would expect to find such as board games, TCGs, D&D, etc. They also have a large room setup for Warhammer and MTG. Really well laid out comic book store. A BIG selection with everything clearly displayed and a collection that goes WAY beyond the most popular series. There is even a pretty large selection of local comics and zines. There is also a gaming space upstairs with tables for game nights and other community events. read more

Stopped here to peruse a board game store while visiting Vermont. This store was really nice. Very clean and the gentleman working there was very nice and helpful. The space was really big with what looked like an adjoining room that was used for a gaming space. The store had a good selection of big box games, card games, and minis/painting supplies. We purchased Piepmatz, a card game we hadn't seen before that looked really interesting. If I were a local I would visit often. read more

When I was younger, my family and I came to Stowe every summer for vacation, and once on each trip we'd come up to Burlington to go shopping and wander around. Every time, my brother and I would demand to go to Quarterstaff. It was cooler than cool, full of games to be played and dice to roll, and the huge wooden bar and the weapons hanging on the brick walls made it feel like I'd walked into one of the Dungeons and Dragons books that were for sale on the racks. Today the huge wooden bar remains, and the weapons are still on the wall, but there isn't as much D&D played here. You can still get a copy of the 4th Edition, but Magic the Gathering, Warhammer 40K, and Settlers of Catan are the popular games of the day. Every week, across the hall, there are tournaments and open play for card games, miniatures, and board games, which also comprise the majority of the shelves in the store. Quarterstaff may not be the perfect game store for everyone, but it's one of the best stores I've seen, and I've been coming here for over half my life. The staff is well-versed in all forms of gaming, and willing to help. I've had no problem with special orders or requests, either. Burlington is well-served by such an excellent store. read more

Located in the Church Street Marketplace (upstairs from a comic shop), the store was quite nice, with beautiful wooden shelves that were very well stocked and organized; unlike many other hobby game stores I've been to, I'm almost certain that every expansion I saw also had the corresponding base game in stock, and the layout made everything easy to locate and identify. In addition to the board and card games I look for, the store had a lot of CCG packs and singles in stock and a sizable minis section. Service was great as well; someone on the floor directed me to a brand-new game I was looking for and engaged in some friendly chit-chat, while the clerk was similarly friendly and skillfully managed to redirect the group of customers browsing through Magic singles away from the front of the register so I could make my purchase. If I ever find myself this far north again, I will DEFINITELY make a return visit! read more

Quarterstaff is my go-to for Warhammer and TTRPGs, and I'm rarely disappointed. They don't go in a lot for indie games, but their supply of accessories is fantastic, and they're always well-stocked. Been a regular customer for years now, highly recommended. read more

I love Quarterstaff Games. That being said I do have a few issues with this place. One is that though most of the people that come here usually come for Magic or other TCGs, however most of the merchandise is made up of miniatures and wargames. I happen to be a miniature gamer, but the collection takes up more than half of the store and I feel the space could be used better. That's really my minor complaint. My major complaint is the staff. I'm going to talk directly to the staff for a moment. It's not really good for business to act like arrogant elitists. When I come into the store I've never once been greeted. There are times where I've been ignored completely. There have been numerous occasions where I've asked a question and been given a snarky answer because the staff considered it stupid of me to ask. In general the staff is condescending, with the exception of one or two. I'm not saying you should go here, they are really the only gaming store in the area, what I am saying is don't expect to be welcomed with open arms. read more

Quarterstaff is everything a local games shop should be: clean, well-stocked, and well-staffed, with frequent community events and games nights. The staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable. War-miniatures games and CCGs seem to be their primary market, both in terms of product and community events. They also have an excellent collection of board games, quick card games, and roleplaying materials (e.g. source books, battle mats, etc). I mostly come in every once in a while to check out new boardgames for 5+ players. The most impressed I've been by Quarterstaff so far is when one of the staffmembers hesitantly recommended a game to me, then amended, saying that the mechanics were awesome but the concept incredibly sexist, and that he was kind of embarrassed that they carry it. This attention to quality of product *really* impressed me: while I of course didn't buy that particular game, it does mean I'll be back to buy others. read more

Staff is well versed in all kinds of games and are happy to give their 2 cents on a particular game should you be looking for some opinions. Quarterstaff is one of my favorite little gaming communities in Burlington. Tucked away on the second floor above Earth Prime Comics, they offer a delightful haven for all things game related -- from your board games, trading card games, to your table top & minis -- they have got you covered. I first started going when a couple of friends were getting into playing Magic (total gateway, btw) and then attended some Friday Night Magic events as well as a couple of pre-release events several years back. Many a booster pack later, I am still excited about my visits and can say that this is a great place from your super casual player (me) to your expert level players and complement the staff on their welcoming and inclusive attitude. I have been to several other game shops and sometimes they can be awkward or uncomfortable, but not here; the community is welcoming of all ages, genders, and skill levels. On a personal note, I'm looking forward to getting back into MTG but have been really enjoying their selection of board games (Pandemic, Dixit, 7 Wonders -- all which I highly recommend!) A pretty average game store, but so much cleaner than a lot I've been in, and well-lit. The area for customers to play games is separate from the sales area so there is room to move and noise is minimal. A lot of board/card games (and an overwhelming amount of Warhammer 40k accoutrements) but not a ton of roleplaying books. Employees looked kind of bored. read more

Have purchased Magic: The Gathering booster packs here a few times in the past; the first time, it was Modern Masters 2015, and the cardboard packaging was bent slightly in the corner where they are meant to be opened. Too trusting for my own good, I both figured this was a mistake and stopped by last Friday to purchase packs again. Two Aether Revolt packs; both, I would later notice, with fine slits at the middle of one end, opposite the seam. All packs I have purchased contained bulk rares, no foils, no competitively-playable uncommons. It's a small sample size, but considering my most recent experience combined with what I've heard from friends about the management and owners, I am never returning for any reason. Buying packs may be a gamble in the first place, but one should be able to at least trust that they are being sold a product with which the sellers have not tampered. Perhaps others have had a better experience, and perhaps this only extends to the sale of individual MtG booster packs, but this has only backed up the stories of greed that are consistent among all the acquaintances with whom I've spoken about this store. I wanted to like this establishment, because it has an excellent atmosphere and I would enjoy spending time playing Magic in such a nice space, but this has ruined it for me. I will say this; the prices of their products, from what I've seen, are better than fair. This, again, matches up with the stories that the owners can afford to undercut any competitors in the area, and if you don't particularly care to whom your money goes, maybe you can get some decent in-person deals on whatever games you're into. But anyone looking to buy individual MtG packs-- for themselves, for friends, for one's children, whoever for whatever occasion-- please take note of this and at the very least buy with caution. Inspect the packs beforehand. read more

Over the top mad. They do not back up thier product. My son bought his game a month ago to play while visiting VT. Bad product ( Risk Legacy) and they told us to contact the manufacturer when we brought it back the next day. The manufacture has sent us different packs of cards, and both were wrong. My son doesn't want this $60.00 game anymore but the manufacturer can't return what they never received! So this store DOESN'T back up what they sell and the manufacturer doesn't back up the store! As a consumer - you're screwed. read more
