On Dec 8th i received a consultation for sisterlocks from Sabrina Davis at her salon "Queen of roots" located in Orlando, Florida.  She told me my 12" -14" hair was too long and she didnt want to lock that much hair.  She told me to cut my hair to 6" and told me the cost at 6" is $1,680 and charged me $150 for my consultation. The deposit was $300 to reserve my days for install. On feb 9, i cut my hair for an undisclosed price of $70. On February 15.  Sabrina was late and we started 1hr late. she measured my hair and told me my hair length is 8" now and it grew 2" in 2 weeks.  She completed 1 quarter of my hair and told me the remaining balance is over $1400.  I told her that wasnt the agreed upon price. With an attitude sabrina explained that the extra 2 inches of hair growth cost additional. I let hwr know i was upset. I left her talking about me, negatively, to her assistant. On the second day Sabrina told me that my session does not include a sisterlocks starter kit despite what i heard and i have to purchase the products.  My hair was installed, with a 4 pattern.  she told me i need sisterlocks shampoo and she has no choice but to improvise. She gave me a starters kit as a favor and said to use this until my order is delivered.  She left 1 to 1.5 inches of loose hair at the ends.  My hair was in a fro. On February 23rd, I did my first wash. The front of my hair immediately came out. I text Sabrina, who told me to come in that same day to retighten the front. On March 9th, I return to Sabrina to do my first retighten.  She accused me of sabotaging my own hair and pulling out the locks.  I explained to her i followed thr maintenance as i was taught but my hair continues to unravel.  On March 23, 2 weeks after my retighten i met with another consultant in Orlando and immediately she was concerned.  She explained to me that my grid has been lost and most of the locks has slipped out completely.  i learned that my locks were too big and they were beginning to bunch and i had a mixture of brother locks and micro locks and that my ends are too loose and this will cause unraveling/ slippage.  I showed her a picture of my locs after install (advocating for sabrina) and she said the picture shows that they were not install correctly.  She stated that she does not feel comfortable retightening my hair because they werent sisterlocks. She told me some rows contained different sized locks and many locks had enough hair for 2 locks.  She said my hair density can hold about 600 locks and not the 400 that were installed. She installed tester locks throughout my hair, and noted that my lock pattern was not a 4 but a 3 because the 4 already showed signs of slippage and distortion the moment she installed the tester.  they were significantly smaller and Tighter. She told me that these were a large, and i noted that they were smaller than the medium locks sabrina installed. she told many more things. I am beside myself.  I am hurt.  I paid for sisterlocks but what sabrina installed was a combination of brother locks and micro locks.  She showed me how to maintain my locks that eventually caused them to unravel within a week and then tell me she has to charge me for repairs.  She accused me of sabotaging my own hair, scolded me for not caring enough to maintain my locks, and had an attitude with me.  I made multiple remarks about the loose ends, the large locks, the uncontrollable fly aways, the inability to part my hair and the afro look i was left with and her reply was "its supposed to look this way", "who is the professional"? I made diligent efforts to prevent, slow, and manage the slippage including braiding, twisting, bunning, and sleeping with a bonnet.  I was losing hope that my hair can lock and whether sisterlocks was really for my hair type.  When the new girl first saw me and my hair she immediately told me "by the size of those curls at the end of your hair, i can tell this is not your fault...but the fault of the consultant".   She discussed how healthy, and strong my hair is, and how my "beautiful" curls will lock with ease and still have a curl to it.  I requested a refund as i didnt receive the sisterlocks i paid for and sabrina told me to take her to court. Sabrina (my #1 stylist for my natural hair since 2009) will reply with her usual response to dissatisfied customers; blaming me for my hair and saying i should have returned to her and pay $300 for her to fix it and be in this biweekly/ monthly cycle of me paying her $300 to fix her mistake and her scolding me for not being able to manage her mistake at home. I get it, she has an image to uphold, but we know the truth and these pictures cant lie. Would anyone look at these and say these are sisterlocks and this is how they are supposed to look after biweekly maintenance? read more

Sabrina knows natural hair! After living in Europe last year and straightening my hair so much I have plenty of heat damage :( I really want my curl pattern back and have been looking for a natural hair stylist to start my journey back to healthy hair. I made an appointment on her website and the morning after I saw her. She taught me so much about what I need to do to take care of my natural hair, we talked about everything from different tools to products that better suit my hair needs. She washed conditioned and gave me the cutest hairstyle that I have been rocking all week. So happy I found Sabrina and I am confident she will get me back on the right track to healthy hair. read more

Sabrina was wonderful. No more sitting waiting for your turn; your appointment time is your appointment time. As soon as she looks at your hair she's analyzing what she can to help you hair feel and look healthy. And she's good at it. She gives a great wash also, which is important for me. I loved the way she tightened my hair. My hair is not thick. She found a way to enhance it to make it look fuller. She's not in it just for the money. Most of all you can trust her with your locs. To update the review in response to her post... In all fairness, she did say that she would retighten my hair for free. However, she refused to band my hair before washing it AGAIN which is what caused me to look like a wet dog and forced me to have to comb out my investment and get a new installation after she touched my hair ONE TIME. So, of course, I declined because she clearly didn't learn from her mistake the first time. She never offered a refund for her error. Anyone who has done 5 minutes of research on Sisterlocks knows that banding your new locks is the standard of care which she refuses to do. That catastrophic reti with her, her pompous attitude, and bad customer service justify my 1 star review. read more

I have been seeing Sabrina for about a little over 5 years now, and I would not go anywhere else at this time. I got my locks started prior to Sabrina, and I saw people while I was seeing Sabrina, but so far I have not met anyone that makes my hair soft as well as treats my scalp the way that Sabrina does. People may have their doubts when they come to see Sabrina, but people need to know that it takes more than just one or two visits for your hair to completely make a turn around depending on how somebody else's work may have affected your scalp. Sabrina takes her time and she reads your scalp and your hair for what it truly is treatment after treatment. I would not trust anyone else to do my hair because she knows what she's doing and she's confident at what she does. If you want somebody to do a good job and get your money's worth she's the person to count on. read more

Ok so first off let me say how warm and friendly Sabrina and staff of Queen of Roots are. They welcomed me, a first timer to an American hair salon with open arms. The service from the time I walked into the room was phenomenal and she detangled my hair like a dream. My hair has never been so soft and manageable. She explained fully everything that was going on with my hair and even gave me an after care lesson on how to undo my two strand twists properly. I'm blown away and you can be assured she has acquired yet another loyal customer to the fray. I will be referring EVERYONE I know to her and I know A LOT of naturalistas who just want to find someone who knows what she is doing and will look out for the very best interest of their hair. Now that I am embracing my natural roots, I have finally found a natural stylist that I believe can take care of my thick hair. I have used a variety of products via recommendation of Youtubers -and with just a simple wash and the right "type" and correct "usage" of products Sabrina achieved the soft texture that I have tried months to get! Lol Throughout my appointment, Sabrina took time to educate me on the do's and don'ts to manage my hair on my own between my appointments with her. She is very neat! Knowledgable! Patient! Just got my hair washed and braided. Sabrina has such a great personality yet she keeps it professional. When I started with her my hair on the crown of my head was bald. Now I am excited to say that I actually have enough hair for her to braid. I also recommended her to a friend and she is satisfied. Her hair grew back enabling her to go natural. No more wigs. Just called asking how much do they charge for a RE-twist and they told me 85$ over the phone. I mentioned that i'm visiting from NY, hoping that didn't make them charge me over. I've never seen a shop ask for more then 70 to START twist. Way to pricy or gipping price. Not recommended! read more

Sabrina is the queen of natural hair! I really did not know what I was doing before I met her and wished that I had met her 8 years ago when I stopped using the creamy crack. I would have retained all the hair I grew since then. My hair has never been happier or healthier than it is right now, and I am thrilled that I finally know how to treat my hair now that she has taught me what I should be doing. Forget what Not H is saying. It is strange that someone would sit in Sabrina's chair and not speak up about anything they didn't like when her style of dealing with clients is one of collaboration and consultation. It's the first time I have had a stylist that understands that once I leave the chair I am on my own and need to know exactly what to do and not to do. She will tell you the way that it really is without pulling any punches. Her candor is refreshing, her advice is priceless. Anyone who understands biology (ahem) knows that you lose about one hundred strands of hair from the root daily. The amount varies with the phase of hair growth and from person to person but hair is constantly dropping out. If you do not remove those strands you're begging your hair to form locks. As the most tender headed client Sabrina has, I can tell you that no ripping of strands was happening. Instead she was trying to remove the four and a half years of dead strands from your tresses. Her special shampoo process is amazing yet quick. Your hair will feel like you just grew new softer, pliant strands. Yup, unlike your typical vid bloggers operating only on what works for them, Ms Sabrina understands the science of it all and has the benefit of working with many different clients and tons of experience. For natural hair care Sabrina is one of the best in Orlando. She is a master sister locks consultant and travels annually to train other Sisterlocks providers, including internationally. A typical service includes a luxurious shampoo and conditioning, then a brief dry before a comfortable retightening. If your locks are getting fuzzy or bogged down with product buildup, Sabrina will soak your tresses in a homemade natural clarifying solution. After the retightening, she massages a moisturizing balm into the scalp. Optional services include braidups, loc-loops, loc petals, and a variety of lock styles. She also does color, cut, and updos. A session with her is invariably relaxing due to the nature of the I-Studio salon. At an I-Studio, each stylist has their own private salon! This means that you will never be left to rot under the dryer while she tends to another customer--this is a one on one appointment. I cannot recommend her highly enough. read more

I found queen of roots ( one person named Sabrina) on Google and decided to make an appointment to have my hair done. As soon as I arrived I regretted this decision. I had to wait an additional 45 minutes before I was seen even though I was on time for my appointment. While doing my hair I had to correct her several times. It was as if this was her first week doing hair. After she was finished I was not pleased with my hair style. The prices are also different than what is listed online. She is not the friendliest person and has a really bad attitude. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!! read more

It is one thing to go to a salon and get a pretty style, but to go somewhere when your hair needs restoration and re-strengthening, and to have that stylist go there with you is AMAZING. I could not have asked for a better salon. She is truly heaven sent. My first time going, I remember her asking me to bring the products I use on my hair, and she went through all of them and gave me a succinct regimen for using them. She explained what everything does and how it should be used and in conjunction with what. This is not someone who just wants to give you a cute style, get your money and be on your way. I wish I didn't have to select any stars to post this, because I'm extremely disappointed... I'm a person with very afro textured, shoulder/ armpit length hair, who has done very well with caring for and growing out my own natural hair over the past four and a half years through educating myself on other successful naturals who have achieved hair length goals with great success. I explained to Sabrina that I was looking to do the same, thus expecting her to handle my hair with care. She may sound very knowledgeable to someone who hasn't spent years educating themselves about their own hair, but I didn't agree with even half of the stuff she was telling me, and that should've been my first sign. Also, I was her last client of the night and that was a huge mistake. Because she was rushing, she carelessly ripped through my hair with a rat tail comb, combing from root to end, snapping through all knots and tangles, the entire process of a two strand twist style; even after I told her I only finger detangle my hair. Her reply was, "the comb is our friend." That contradicts all the long, kinky hair naturals that I've followed. I saw combfulls of my hair being removed from her comb several times. In addition, she left the ends of my twists loose, which is pointless for a protective style that's supposed to last me two to three weeks; the ends are the oldest and weakes part of my hair, thus needing the most protection! She used inferior, cheap products (Design Essentials), there was nothing impressive about the shampoo/ condition, there was no deep conditioning with a cap under a dryer included in the $127 price (plus a passively suggested by her tip; when it's always been my understanding, you don't tip the owner of the salon unless they've done something really out of their way for you.) SABRINA EITHER DOES NOT KNOW OR DOES NOT CARE ABOUT PROPER HAIR HANDLING TECHNIQUES FOR SOMEONE TRYING TO GROW LONGER HAIR! I feel she's set me back six months in my hair length and now with severely broken and ripped through strands! Be forewarned!!! The experience is NOT as described on the website if you're not a dread, but instead, trying to handle your hair with care! And booking an appointment on her website requires a credit card, so even if in the middle of her ruining your hair, you consider walking out, you think back on her cancellation policy and fees and wonder "should I save my hair by walking out or do I sit here and hope she redeems herself for the amount of money she's probably going to charge my card anyway?" My suggestion: save your time, money, and most of all, save your hair! read more
