I am trying to be constructive here and not use profanities. Anyone who gave this company a 5 star rating must be paid by them. I had a misfortune to trust some presentation years ago, got myself into this mess and now, since I am not an active investor, I am not able to close this account and they keep charging me some maintenance fees for non-existing properties. The most unhelpful customer service who keeps saying the most annoying phrase at the beginning of the call, "how can I make your day" which is truly aggravating, given the circumstances. Unless you know what you are doing with investment/retirement accounts, I would say, STAY THE EF AWAY. read more

"How May I make your day?" Quest Trust became my self directed IRA company after the confusion of another one in the business. Purchasing and maintaining notes for real estate is an education all in itself. I have had to get my mind framed into the proper stance as they steer clear of any capacity of advice on taxation or investment. I have been a customer for years. When a deal went south, they showed just how unaccountable and inflexible they are. They were unresponsive and inflexible. The issue related to the fair market value of a non-performing asset. They took arbitrary action without proper notice and insisted upon an impractical solution-hiring an outside attorney to respond to the legal issues in dispute. Of course this cost would quickly exceed the value of the impaired asset. The result- Quest sent out a 1099 on a non-performing IRA asset, thus reporting income not received. I have also heard from one investor that Quest will refuse to close an account (and cease assessing quarterly fees) until they say the asset has lapsed. If you use them, do so with your eyes wide open. read more

I would give 0 stars if this tool let me. Quest IRA, now known as Quest Trust Company, is AWFUL! They do not have standard processes for working with account holders. Requirements change from day to day, person to person. You never know what they are going to ask for. You can use an approved template, but then the next person to look at it wants something completely different. Is this really what makes an investor feel their money is being handles properly? It is terrifying, but also a huge waste of time and completely frustrating. I am moving my IRA to another provider. And trust me, the hoops they are putting me through to do so, as with all things Quest, are changing every day and wasting a ton of time. In the end it will be worth it. I highly recommend that you DO NOT use Quest IRA, or Quest Trust Company! Find another company to partner with and ensure that your money and assets are being managed properly, and save yourself the wasted time and headaches. read more

Let me preface by saying I consider myself a savvy real estate investor. Self Directed Retirement Accounts are definitely awesome to invest into Real Estate. However, if you're considering using Quest IRA I would urge you to reconsider. Besides having to deal with UBIT(Unrelated Business Income Tax) for leveraged investments, they will nickel and dime you at every opportunity. They will not only charge you high fees when the account is open but also charge you more fees for closing the account! As a previous customer I have had them drag their feet on funding my investments and have frequently had to make it to the finish line the very last minute. Overall a very unsatisfactory experience. Getting charged closing fees was truly the icing on the cake! Any IRA even with checkbook control will incur UBIT if the investment is leveraged. You want to do leveraged investments because your ROI is much higher with leverage than without. UBIT rate is high and will eat into your returns big time! Solution: Setup a Solo 401K or QRP (or eQRP) instead and be your own boss! Write your own checks for your investments, pay flat yearly fees and don't get nickel and dimed and don't pay UBIT. read more

Customer service is horrible. Just getting through to speak to someone is a chore and a half. When you do get through you are bounced around and can't simply call back and speak to the last person you spoke with. I had issues with PII (personal identifiable information) being sent over email and they scoffed at my concern. I tried to purchase a rental property once and was told incomplete and contradictory instructions. I submitted requested form for purchasing a note, they never executed it. I tried both by email and phone to rectify the situation, nothing ever happened. They kept asking for the same form I provided multiple times. I expressed these concerns and they were indifferent and refused to make it right or even waive any portion of their fees. They are expensive. I would recommend anyone looking for an SD IRA to run far far away from Quest. I have found a happy home elsewhere where I'm charged a lump sum, not based upon account value and I'm not nickel-ed and dime-ed for each individual transaction. read more

Very very incompetent Organization. Please look elsewhere. I applied online and supplied all required info within a day. Went through the verification process and identity was verified. The agent got back to me early the next morning saying they did not get complete info about beneficiary so I supplied the info through online application and which they said they did not receive so I supplied it again through email. Agent told me that she has everything to open the account *Thank God It Was Not Opened*. Fast forward few hours I called for an update and talked to another agent and she told me that copy of ID for beneficiary is needed???. But then when I talked to original agent was told the the application is good. Six hours later I got an email requiring copy of passport so I asked whether she need my passport or my beneficiary's I never got a response. Fast forward after weekend and some guy calls and he tells me that he needs my beneficiary's info which he did not receive from the new accounts agent. I supplied all that info days before. Then the agent got back to me saying my personal verification was not good enough and I should supply a copy of passport which I do not have plus I supplied my drivers license which was good enough. Plus the first step they do is verify your identity. So I ask you, if they are very incompetent at opening new accounts, would you entrust your life savings to them? BEWARE!!!! Maybe this company was good in the past but from the reviews I do not think so. read more

I've used Quest for a few years now and I really wanted to like them as they were referred to me by a good friend/Investor. (Who has now moved their money elsewhere) There's almost always something that's done incorrectly and every staff member has a different solution, which has recently taken over a month for my current situation to be resolved. Ridiculous. Right when I think it's handled I'm given a different instruction followed by "Sorry." I've had to follow up far more than I should just to make sure things are moving along. Their follow up is horrible. I never leave bad reviews, but this experience has been a bad one. And as an investor, time is money. read more

I will never recommend Quest IRA to anyone. We have a self-directed IRA with Quest and over the couple of years the account's been open, they've billed us for over $1k in fees, with no explanation as to what the fees are for, and they do not provide statements unless we beg for them. So we don't even know they've charged us a fee until they call asking for payment, but then the caller can't tell us why the fee was charged in the first place. Now that the investment property has been sold we plan to move the funds to an IRA at another financial institution. read more

Quest company is a BULLY! Majority of the 1-star review is ACCURATE! Quest IRA ripped customer off with outrageous fees. Plus, their customer service is terrible, unprofessional, arrogant, and rude. They over charged me just on fees alone by $1500 to $1550. When I asked them for credit or refund, their EVP Nate Hare, first had no show for our pre-scheduled phone call, totally unprofessional. Then, wrote me a very rude letter which had nothing but false accusations. Don't waste your precious time and money and energy with this company! I am amazed at the negative reviews. I moved several accounts to Quest because of issues with one of their major competitors. My experience with Quest has been nothing less than stellar and I have done a very large number of transactions with them and their competitors. There have been occasional issues that come up as in all relationships, but I can honestly sat they have always been dealt with professionally and promptly. I currently have an account with a competitor, but I've been referring investors to Quest IRA and have had nothing but great results. They were able to get two accounts opened in a short time frame allowing two associates to invest in a multifamily deal we were doing. I have been to several of their free training classes and meetups. So far, I'm very impressed and just wish I had learned of them before opening the account with a competitor. Now it will cost be over $1.5k in termination fees and reclassification of my assets imposed by the other company just to leave them! I wish to acknowledge there has been a big trend to invest your IRA money in self directed investments. You need to be warned that this is quite often not a good idea or way to handle your money. First you need to be aware that Quest will do very little if anything to verify that your investment is a good one. They basically do nothing to help you evaluate or maintain your investment. I have experienced numerous problems with this company - for example when I was caught in a scam - I requested they provide me the backup copies of my investments and they could not locate all of the files. There are some very good people who work here and some that are not very good - regardless I have had to followup and check that almost everything I request to have done - credit card payment, deduction from account, close account, transfer money, interest payments received in the account, adding investments - you name it -- you almost always have to follow-up and verify it happens correctly. It is your money not theirs so you need to constantly stay on top of it. Say for instance that your contract is loaded into their system and it is not signed by one of the parties. They do not care and do not track this. Every year they will ask you to have a certified person re-value your account and you will have to pay an accountant $$$ to get this form filed out. So here is how this works - First you will open your account with Quest and they will charge you a fee. You may have a fee for every type of investment you do depending on the type. You will fill out all the paperwork and transfer your IRA funds to invest. The transfer may cost you money and there may be a percentage charged to move the money into the account and out of the account. Next they will charge you a quarterly fee to hold your investment. Initially this amount sounds harmless ($400 to $500 a year) but it adds up over time to the tune of $1000 to $1500 dollars if you have $250K or more invested. It can be 5 to 15% of your investment over time. By the time you add in the account fees, the interest charges, the transfer fees, the overhead of time to get the money to and from the account, and overnight transfer fees it is a big deal. On my IRA 5% interest investment I made very little. Do not invest in unsecured investments!!! Remember most IRA investments are not FDIC insured nor are many IRA investments SEC licensed investments. Contracts are just a piece of paper and our court system makes it almost impossible to collect. I have only been paid back by good friends. I spent $33,000 to get a judgement and then the lawyer told me to go to a collection agency. In another case the DA and defendants lawyer made a deal with the judge in my opinion, Mllions of dollars was stolen, but only 6 months in jail because our jail systems are over crowded and the justice is distributed inequitably. For example If you own the first mortgage on a property you are good as long as you can buy it from the bank. Oh and it may cost you 6 to 9 months house payments plus legal fees to get it back. If you are the second or third lender good luck - do not believe anyone that tells you this is a good investment. The US legal system is a justice after the crime system and justice occurs only in some cases. The defendant has all the rights and you will be a victim over and over. For investments the gov't encourages people to steal by providing loss write-offs on taxes, insurance companies that pay 10 to 20% on the dollar, and first time criminals get off easy for white collar crime. Everyone is a liar --- the defendant, the DA, and the judges it just depends on your point of view. Integrity only exists between family and friends sometimes. When I lost my money Quest was very quickly done with me and they continued to collect quarterly fees until I could absolutely prove that my investment was lost. This company is not your friend. I loaned money at 5% and got stock options for every dollar investing in a startup. The value of the investment was $80,000 for example. When my monthly check for $5000 came back to pay off my loan - instead of maintaining the value of the account as $80,000 they added funds received to the principle - thus the first month my account was now $85,000 then $90,000 the next month. In a few months my investments went over to the next higher quarterly fee charge and they started automatically deducting another $100+ dollars a quarter for the fee. . Thus every month I had to call them to get the value of my account set correctly. When you invest in anything - search to make sure the person or business has no past or current legal cases, check their previous businesses, verify if they have been bankrupt, check their credit, search the superior courts where they have lived. Make sure all contracts are valid and call the businesses and people who have signed to make sure they are valid. Self Directed IRA accounts are not for me. read more

Don't follow their own contracts, refuse to provide documents proving their own company policies that they purport to follow (even though the terms of the contract is different). President told me if I didn't like their policies then I should take them to court. Charged me for a valuation they didn't actually complete (later refunded it, but still). For all the 1 star reviews...It is possible they simply didn't do their homework in advance to know the ins and outs of IRA investing. Quest hosts many free training events in my area (Central Texas) to get you familiar with what is involved and what to expect. I primarily use IRA's for investing in Real Estate. It's really not hard using and IRA to do this but it's certainly more complex than purchasing in an LLC or individual name. I have used Quest IRA for a Roth for my Wife and I, a Coverdell ESA for our Son and an HSA for our Family. We also have several inherited IRA's with Quest. We have never experienced anything but top notch customer service when completing transactions and requesting docs / info. Again, I think it comes down to knowing what an IRA is, what it can be used for and how to use it that others have had bad experiences. The idea is to minimize tax liability which of course comes with it's own complexities but ever experience I've had with Quest is that they make it easy to understand and fun to attend. I strongly recommend Quest IRA for anyone considering opening an account but can't stress enough that you should first attend at least one event and do a good deal of due diligence before committing so that you know exactly what your signing up for and the rules associated as one bad transaction can blow up your entire IRA no matter who it is with. read more

I previously had my account with Quest but I did not think that they handled my financial transactions correctly.I had a wire sent it but they did not credit it to my account in a timely manner instead choosing to reject my bill pays even when they had the wire for 3 to 4 days while not notifying me they had a problem. They never sent me statements and when I requested a quarterly statement they didn't know what a quarterly statement was. I would request bills to be paid but if the checks were not cashed they did not return the cash to my account until I asked. I would never use this company again because their accounting practices were not to an industry norm. When selling a house even though they knew there was a deadline they told me they didn't know if they could review the paperwork in time until I went over their head. read more

I sent my rent check to Quest via USPS priority express mail overnight as I have done so for the past two months since new owners of property I live at, have this ''company'' as their IRA investment reps. Needless to say I get a text from my landlord wanting to know where his rent check is, on the 3rd and Quest has had the check since the 30th of April at 3pm. This is dysfunctional business practice, to say the least, I would elaborate further, however, yelp is used by all ages & I love kids. Quest IRA has been going through some growing pains over the last year or two but the bottom line is that they do an awesome job. Unlike many other companies these folks are very helpful and they actually know what they are doing. I responded to a job posting for an Administrative Assistant position with Quest IRA. I received a call from the company in which they let me know that this position has been filled but there are others to be filled and asked me to come in for an interview. I went in and received a tour of the offices. I found it peculiar that most of the employees seemed to be women in their early 20's. I then was interviewed by 3 women who did not seem to have experience in interviewing. It was mostly awkward staring and questions that did not have anything to do with the position at hand. I thanked them for having me and left with an odd feeling about the similarities I saw between all the employees. I kept receiving job notifications about the Administrative Assistant job which I was told was filled, but had not been taken down. I then concluded this posting was made to attract answers from women. I thought this to be unprofessional and an obvious discrimination tactic. Basically, you have to be a young, pretty female to work here. To prove this you only have to visit their offices. I found this situation uncomfortable and did not wish to pursue a career here. read more
