Make sure you don't leave Montreal without trying a queues de castor (beaver tail). They are pure goodness and you can modify them just about any way that you like. This location is in the tourist trap zone but that added to the fun of it all. You will see cars cruising in front of the store and all sorts of stories to go with it. Service was rather quick so no complaints there. I was surprised that they close kind of early (10pm, 22:00) considering the area. The pastry is chewy and soft like an elephant ear plus the topping. I was walking down old Montreal and strolled in here on whim. The menu has a good variety and I did not know what to expect. It was my first time not only trying a beavertail but in Canada in general and like I said, the person working the counter was extremely helpful and super welcoming to me! He suggested I try the original, since I never had it before and I got the Oreo one as a side because it's the flavor I like naturally. We had the Beaver tail with cinnamon and it wasn't too sweet, which was perfect for our liking. Note that they accept cash, at least that's how it was when we went. If there were tables or seats available, the tables were at many times dirty. People should definitely clean up after themselves better. Can you believe l never had a beaver's tail pastry before? What was my problem? We stopped there on our walk back to the car. It is really hard to judge the store as it is post-covid, so nothing was set up and we needed to follow a line to the counter. The good: The pastry is good. The staff, although young, is great and works hard. They are also very kind. They gave us napkins with our pastries, even though we already took some (and l suggest you do too). It is VERY popular. Wheelchair accessible. The bad: Without the table set up, the place looks... odd, especially with their white/pink cow in the corner. The person mentioned that they may start taking them in June or July, however we noticed reviews from up to two years back mentioning that they don't take credit cards. I would assume that you're going to have to pay cash. After hitting up the ATM to an exorbitant fee of $2.75, we ordered our two beaver tails. I thought mine was delicious, the chocolate with Reese's pieces. My wife was disappointed with hers, which was essentially a glorified funnel cake. A signature Montreal dessert to try in the old Port- you get your choice of fried sour dough shaped as a beaver tail topped with cinnamon and sugar, Nutella and banana, butter Scotch and chocolate. Prices start at 7$ for one beaver tail. There are also combos available.This particular location had spacious seating and was clean compared to other locations as in six flags. The sad part is the management - all micromanaged by early inexperienced university and cegep students. I wish there was older more experienced supervision. I took the time to talk to my server who was stretching out tails-he is doing a major in biochemistry at Concordia - these students work hard for minimum wage and sometimes have to deal with arrogant staff. So next time you do get a beaver tail- pass on a smile or a few words of positive affirmation- these kids are the next generation of professionals. read more

While I do love beaver tails (to the extent that I'd be okay with getting diabetes from them), this is not what I remember it was. I ordered a 5 "Avalanche". Basically a cheese and nuts beaver tail. While it was good, it seemed rather expensive for 6$+Taxes. The beaver tail itself seems much thinner than what it used to be a few years ago. I also remember more toppings were added before although the length is the same, surely so it LOOKS good from the top but feels like a disappointment in the mouth. Also it was served to me almost cold... that was not really appreciated. The only reason I didn't make a scene to get a hot one is because my friend was with me at the time. Prices are disappointing for what is being served to us. Selection is OKay. Time to prepare is a bit below average for just a piece of fried dough with a topping squeezed out of a bottle. Mine was served almost cold on top of it. On a Saturday afternoon by the waterfront, you would think that there would be more than two employees working. The line was long and steady, in the wait for the food was a little longer than expected. My Beavertail was supposed to have cheesecake and candy on it, but it tasted just like vanilla frosting.
