I don't know why it has taken me this many years to get my review up. I took my son here when he was about 6 years old and that was it, marked by his tummy as his favorite Chinese restaurant for noodles. Now he is almost 16 and I don't even have to ask him what he wants for dinner because I already know. Quick Wok, chicken chow mien extra spicy. I have to say that I'm not bothered by it because when I get a craving for Chinese it's usually their house chicken, spicy as well! Specifically their lunch deal because I enjoy the smaller portion with the side salad. I tend to be a creature of habit and order the same dishes at different places, so I have ventured to many others ordering the same meals. Yet here we are, still coming back after 10 years! For $10.03 cents I got, a salad, pot sticker (chicken, gave it away), entree, and half noodles/half white rice. My coworker loooved the kung pao sauce. I thought it was aiiight, but that's because I wanted it spicier.. All coworkers really enjoyed their food. I called at 10:55 to place pick up order, and it was quick. Ok, so the food was definitely fresh. But, it was missing that flavor that I've been desperately seeking since moving to CA, 5 years ago.

I used to love this place back years ago. The orange chicken had an after taste of bitterness. The egg rolls had a bad smelled after bitting into it. Like the veggies inside the egg roll were expired. The restaurant does not offer normal plates anymore, we ate on styrofoam. My first impression over the phone wasn't great. Whoever answered sounded nice but had to put me on hold initially. Then whoever picked up after that did not speak very good English and I had to repeat my delivery address at least 4 times. Once I ordered and paid, the initial English speaker got back on the phone to verify my address again and let us know that normally they do not deliver to addresses more than 4 miles outside their radius (we were 7 miles away) but they would accommodate this one time. Mind you this is the first time even ordering from this place at all so we were grateful but it came off a little rude. The lady that brought our food was very sweet and wished us a happy new year. Overall the food was very good. We especially appreciated the wontons, which I feel lack in flavor at most Chinese restaurants I've been to. This is one of my boyfriends favorite places, I thought orange chicken would be a safe option, but the chicken was in a puddle of sauce and it was over saturated and soggy like it had been sitting in a bowl of sauce all day. I miss the days of living in Long Beach and my short time in Artesia with good Chinese food spots just an arms reach away. I love North County San Diego to death, but one thing that it's missing here is a strong Asian food scene along the lines of Chinese food. So whenever I am craving Chinese food, I will try the random spots I find via Yelp, even if the reviews aren't the greatest. And that is how I have ended up at Quik Wok twice. I needed to satisfy my Chinese food cravings and needed something close by. Walnut Shrimp: My biggest weakness is Walnut Shrimp, however terrible it tastes. The first time I got it, the shrimp was over battered. This time around, it was not as over battered, but it still wasn't the best. I actually might prefer Panda Express' Walnut Shrimp over this place. It's actually not as pricey here for the dinner entree compared to Panda Garden, I think it's around $10-11 here. Orange Chicken: Another American Chinese dish I cannot stay away from. I think it's more batter than actual chicken here and I find it not saucy enough here. Noodles: I got some sort of flat noodles the first time and remember them needing more flavor. I wish there was better Chinese food in North County! But I will keep eating the mediocre stuff until I get my butt to LA County for the real stuff. read more

There are some places you just don't review on Yelp. That doesn't mean that people shouldn't, just that my own sense of shame prevents me from doing so. I don't want people sorting through my reviews and seeing my thoughts and experiences at Burger King. "Two Stars! The cream sauce I was given to dip my chicken fries in was delightful, and the bucket of onion rings just melted in my mouth (because they were made from a properly formulated chemical paste injected into a ring mold and fried). But there was a chopped toe cooked in with my hamburger patty! It wasn't even painted pink!" I, for one, was appalled!" And yet, here is a review for Quik Wok. This review is made in conjunction with, of all places, Bentley's Steak House. This is not because they are similar in anyway, just that they both made me realize something I really should be doing in my Yelp reviews, and that's that the rating should reflect the kind of place I expect the restaurant to be. For Bentley's Steak & Chop House, I expect it to be an upscale steak restaurant. It was, and nothing much passed that, so three stars. For Quik Wok, I expect to get cheap and disgusting Chinese food that I could enjoy. And by that standard, I was disappointed. Kinda tough given the loose criteria, but there you go, two stars. The portions are fair size, though I remember getting much more years ago when I first came here. The prices seem a bit excessive; again, especially given what they were years ago in relation to the newer portion size. My girlfriend and I ended up spending over $30 and had leftovers, but neither of us wanted them the next day. You can get better for about the same price at Chin's. But the taste, I know I want cheap and disgusting, but I'm looking for that salty and greasy disgusting that you end up on the couch moaning in satisfaction at a stomach cramping with all the excessive MSG. This shit just makes your back hurt. I know that Chinese food in the states isn't really Chinese food, we've taken a healthy cuisine, battered and deep fried it, then coated it with sugar and, to appease health nuts, toasted sesame seeds. There's no shame in that. What there is shame in, however, is the sauce that congeals into chunky and oddly 'not-quite-liquid' glop on everything. Our sweet and sour chicken felt like it was dipped in melted lemon life-savers and my orange chicken, when it cooled, kind of had a candy apple crunch and stickiness to it with its own coating. Needless to say, that alone is off-putting, but the taste is very sickly sweet and it just lowers that bar to further depths. Still, the fried rice wasn't too bad, we ended up getting an extra box of that to take home with us, so there was that. So, yeah, looking for nice, cheap and disgusting Chinese food and came away very disappointed. read more

I'm not usually a Chinese food fan and have to really be craving it. This place is so good!! The black pepper beef is delish! Cream cheese wantons are so yummy! And I love the fact that they have plan chow main. I can't stand hot cabbage but always loved the noodles. 1st place I found to have just noodles so that was awesome! 5 STARS!!! 5 stars cause they have good sesame chicken. The people are GREAT. We come about once a week. The Kung Pao Chicken is probably the best around. The Orange Chicken is good. They probably have the best pot stickers I've had...they're not the true pot sticker you know, they're better! Place can get quite full at certain times of they day. You want good Chinese food? Go here! I went out and bought my own wok and learned how to cook with it because of this place. My fiance and I come here all the time, because the proportions are great. We are able to order one entree item and share it. We love the Garlic chicken. My family and I LOVED this place it was our to go spot every week. We went so much that the owner knows me. But unfortunately today on 11-20-22 at 8:15pm I order a 3 meals for my family and I I was missing a streamed white rice. I called the restaurant when though they where about to close I still called. A women answered and she said "sorry we closed" I said " i know im sorry I'm calling to tell you that's I'm missing a rice " told her my order and she's starts telling me she put it in there. I explained to her what items where in each bag and it wasn't there at all. She gave me attitude and started easing her voice and said " what can i do everyone went home" (when it's 8:57 and they close at 9) I said "that's fine I'm telling you know because I'm missing an item and wanted to see if you can do something for the inconvenience" and she said no sorry okay bye and hangs up on my. I told my husband she really just hung up on me ( the conversation was on speaker so he heard everything). My husband said she's really rude we are not going anymore. I'm upset because I go there a lot the owner is nice and friendly but that lady was very rude mind them we used go to 1 to 2 times a week spending a bit or 100 it's there lost now. Really love their food here, I wish they delivered. But it's worth driving to go and pick up. Their paper wrapped chicken is my favorite little appetizer.
