What a gem. Selfishly, I almost don't want to leave this review bc we want to keep this place all to ourselves! Spectacular handcrafted cocktails, served by a knowledgeable and welcoming mixologist. The Southside Sour was absolutely perfect. Love the vibe, the care taken to create outstanding cocktails, the beautiful glassware, the slap to the mint leaves to open them up. Chef's kiss.

What an awesome find! The drinks are excellent! Bartenders were very welcoming and amazing at their craft!

Took a distillery tour with a few friends and had a great time! It's a small place, so our group (of 4) and another group of 4 filled the tour. The tour was incredibly full of information, from Quincy Street's processes and history to local and regional distilling history in general, all well presented and engaging. After the tour and lesson in the production space, we sat at the bar and sampled a few of the spirits, learning more about each of those individually and what makes them unique. And then AFTER that, our group stayed longer to do some extra sampling, learning, and trying some of their delicious cocktail creations. The biggest 'problem' was that there were so many interesting options to choose from when I wanted to buy some bottles to take with me - a good problem to have indeed (helped somewhat by the fact that some of their products are sold in smaller bottles)

The selections of spirits you have at your disposal.

Been meaning to come in to the distillery for awhile. I'm glad I waited! It was a fairly cold night when we came in. Tucked into an old fashioned building with the face of the distillery facing the street, it gives you the vibe of a cheers environment where you're walking in. I had the pleasure of titillating my tastebuds with a couple of drinks they had to offer: the retro/metro and the buck. The ginger beer effervescence and after taste of the ginger was delightful and warming to stomach. Hopefully I'll be able to talk to the speakeasytenders the next time!

Super smart, interesting guy, take the tour, you will not regret it! Located in downtown Riverside. Be sure to give yourself time to explore this magnificent area!

My first distillery tour and man did I get the right one. Derek gave me the entire history of American Whiskey and the steps they made back in the day before prohibition in making Whiskey. This distillery has a deep respect for the historical process and does it's best to make an authentic whiskey they way it was originally made. You learn how to differentiate between different whiskeys and how not to get scammed shopping at Binnys. I recommend this to anyone that wants a bit more than basic knowlege of whiskey straight from a dedicated passionate professional.

Unplanned stop here but what a welcome surprise on a winter evening at this neighborhood pub that hits the sweet spot somewhere between "watering hole" and restaurant . Lively and cozy, "Livozy" (oh yes I did just coin that) is the best descriptor for this cool little pub right across from a commuter rail stop. Very decent selection on tap. The crowd is mostly local and very friendly. The tenders crushed it in terms of friendliness and efficient professionalism. Zubar has figured out that if you deliver a satisfying experience at very reasonable prices--good value, you will ensure return customers--again and again. (As an aside though, it is a bit of a shame Zubar has not "claimed" this Yelp page projecting the "we're too cool (they are) who cares" vibe but there's a lot of good vibe coming there way...I'll bet they peek anyway.)

Even those not going to the zoo can enjoy it. This is right off the Metra zoo stop, and I'm wondering how many times I can mention the zoo in this review, maybe 20 times or so. A convenient stop along the Metra gets you here. It's almost seriously there as soon as you get off. This is obviously located on the way to the Brookfield Zoo. It makes a pretty good stop when coming back from walking around. This is pretty much just a little bar with drinks and slots. It's about $5 for a simple cocktail. There's basic liquor. Good place to hang after walking around the zoo and needing to get a drink. It doesn't seem to have food anymore but you can bring some in. There's also entertainment like a jukebox and pool table.

I think if it was charred & maybe a little less lime juice it might be a more satisfying bite. In its current form, i couldn't taste the avocado at all. Miller Lite was the only beer they had on tap, but you could get a bucket of it for like a nickel. Hyperbole? Maybe. A 60oz pitcher of the classic domestic swill cost only $5, which is pretty damn tough to beat if you ask me. Liz behind the bar was super friendly and introduced herself not long after I sat down. Once my +1 arrived, Liz was nice enough to make a bag of popcorn that she gave us to munch on. Talk about being given a warm reception! They don't accept Discover and have a $10 minimum on credit card purchases, but for a small operation like this it's to be expected, so I can't fault them for that. Some of the barstools are a teensy bit ripped-up, although in a dive bar setting like this, I find that they truly 'complete the look'. Great homey feel and a jukebox loaded with tons of tunes for 50¢ or a dollar per song. They've got billiards tables and a few slot machines that I imagine get a lot of play from their 'regulars'. They also feature Karaoke on select nights of the week. There's a very tasteful piece of nude art behind the bar, which I'm told is a painted portrait of someone who works there. Being a big fan of all things naked people, I found this to be a nice touch amidst the cans of Old Style and half-empty Smirnoff bottles. ....and unless I'm mistaken, I definitely met/talked to/received free shots from *the* Jimmy of said namesake bar. His taste in Huey Lewis & The News (along with his great taste in hats) didn't go unnoticed. He was hilarious and insisted that I stick around for a while [keep in mind this was at 11pm on a Wednesday], but I had to decline. Lyons is generally off my radar, but for the way I was greeted and taken care of at this establishment, I'd not hesitate for a second to stop back in, if I were to be in the area again.

Posto 31 is located in Lagrange Park which is just slightly outside and west of the city. Their restaurant week deal is $45 per person for dinner and every adult in the party is required to participate. We tried the following: 1) Pork belly with a brown butter sweet potato mash and apple slaw - This was a delicious and refreshing appetizer. The fat isn't excessive and there is a good sear with the pork belly. I think it was different in a sense that it didn't exactly go with the Italian theme. 2) Arancini with chicken, parmesan, mozzarella, and marinara. This is the standard fare and you can't go wrong with this selection. 3) Faroe Island salmon with squash puree and Brussel sprout slaw. The salmon was well executed and I loved how it was paired with the slaw. 4) Arrabbiata with squid ink linguini and jumbo shrimp. This was the star of the night and what drew our attention when we first reviewed the restaurant week menu. It is rare to find squid ink linguini in the city and neighboring suburbs. The portion was huge and the flavors were absolutely delicious. We are already planning a return to order this again. 5) Tiramisu was the standard fare and once again, the portion was huge. We demolished it though. 6) Cookie skillet had a square of chocolate chip cookie topped with candied pretzels, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream. We did not get to try it because our girls just took it to town. So needless to say, it was thoroughly enjoyed. We also ordered the kids' an eight inch pepperoni pizza. It was more than enough for our two girls to share.
