How in the world does this place have more than a 2? The banh mi, was quite possibly the worst thing I've eaten in a while.. The bread was hard and stale. The meat was heated up in a microwave. The vegetables were dry and sour. And the whole sandwich itself tasted like something was rotten. Had to spit it out because I was scared I'd get food poisoning. We got 2 roast pork Bahn Mi's and they were not good. The pork had a really weird flavor. And the sandwich was almost completely void of that amazing flavor profile that makes a bahn mi so loved. The sandwich was on the dry side (they didn't even put mayo). They don't use the iconic pickled daikon and carrot which I really like. They did have carrots but even the "pickled" carrots had such a light pickled flavor that it was hard to even discern if they had seen a brine for more than a few hours. It was like the veggies they used had no flavor, even the bread was mediocre. It just wasn't good, in my opinion which is upsetting when you see all the good reviews for the bahn mi's. Initially came here for some donuts and kolaches and to be honest, they were just alright. The service is great though, super welcoming and super friendly. But I would skip the breakfast foods here, the kolache wasn't as soft as I liked and the donuts were just okay. But - go for the banh mi! The banh mi is definitely worth it and delicious. I never knew Quoc Bao Bakery has good sweets until today. In the past, I've came to Quoc Bao Bakery for the Vietnamese baguettes and on occasions egg rolls, which one should because Quoc Bao Bakery is known for their Vietnamese baguettes. This small bakery on 24th and Classen is solely operated by the owner, Mr. Bao, himself. And let me tell you, it is a HARD job. Unlike Lee's or other bigger bakeries, the ventilation system at Quoc Bao Bakery is non-existent, meaning Mr. Bao has to endure the heat of an OVEN year round. I've forgotten how HOT it is inside until coming back today. He is a hard working man and deserved much more. With Mochinut across the street, Quoc Bao Bakery does not offer much varieties of donuts anymore. There was just one type when I came in, blueberry. The donuts and muffins are delicious at Quoc Bao Bakery, better than one would've expected at a Vietnamese baguette shop. In terms of the Vietnamese baguettes, I have to give an edge to Lee's Sandwiches for having better quality overall. What I love the most about Quoc Bao Bakery is the bread, much softer than Lee's. I feel like the quality of the ingredients inside the baguettes is not as good as Lee's. Quoc Bao Bakery does offer buy 3 get 1 free which is a great deal. Having stated the above, one has to wonder why I am giving Quoc Bao Bakery a 5 stars? I feel like besides the criteria of food critics, there should also be humans compassion and understanding. I'm new to the area but have had my fair share of banh mi over the years. Mr. Bao is a very friendly man and his banh mi was very flavorful and fresh, all the ingredients were absolutely delicious. I had the char siu banh mi and the char siu was actually breathtaking. I am part Chinese and have had lots of char siu, this was up there with the best. I had only come here for Egg Rolls in the past because they are time consuming to make at home, but also because his are great and at an amazing deal. Until his most recent shut down and learning about it, supporting local during this pandemic is more important to me than ever. His Banh Mis are definitely some of the best in the Asian District and offer so much in that little sandwich for under $5. It's definitely a full meal. Haven't yet tried the donuts here, but with the time of day and as empty as his trays are, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say they're pretty damn good. Be patient with him. As much exposure as he's gotten, finding good help is difficult, and he is sometimes alone. But when you come by, know you're supporting a father as his young son is often seen at the store when he's not in school. I remember going to Quoc Baos a couple of years ago and the banh mis were delicious (my favorite was the grilled pork) and I recently visited again when he reopened after closing for a while. First, get the egg rolls if you can. I kept hearing great things about the egg rolls and I finally got to try it for the first time this weekend and I understand why people keep talking about it! The egg rolls appear to be double wrapped so they are extra crispy. He does sell out of the egg rolls relatively quick so you have to come early if you want to get some. I tried the grilled pork banh mi and the breakfast banh mi this weekend. The grilled pork banh mi changed since the last time I got it but it's still good! He used to use a thicker cut of pork but now they are thinly sliced, but I think I prefer the thinly sliced pork because it has a nice crisp to the edges and isn't too fatty. The breakfast banh mi has bacon, eggs, veggies, ham, and cheese. It was definitely something different, but I think I'll stick to the grilled pork next time since the egg made eating the sandwich kind of messy. The bread is made in house and it's soooo good. The bread is very soft and fluffy unlike the bread at other banh mi places which have a harder crunchier exterior. I prefer QB's bread because it doesn't tear up my mouth and the banh mi microwaves pretty well without getting hard. Note: please be patient if you decide to visit! The owner was the only one who assembled the food and handled the cash when I went, so expect a little wait when you go. However the food is totally worth the wait! I'm so glad my friend showed me this place. The Egg rolls are incredible and the bahn mi is the best I've found in Okc. I also had a mochi donut and oh my goodness it was absolutely amazing. I ordered the #4, the grilled pork sandwich and it was hands DOWN, 1 of the BEST sandwiches I've ever had in my life. The banh mi is buy 3 get 1 free at $3.50/ea which is an amazing deal! I'm a sweets person and I'll tell you I made a huge mistake by only buying 2 of their vanilla muffins. I took one bite of it while we were in the car and said aloud "damn it, it's so good and I only have 2!" Yeah buy a lot of the muffins. It's a little greasy and oily but that just adds to the wonderful flavor. The bread is always fresh and the veggies on it are always absolutely delicious. You can't really go wrong with this sandwich. And considering that you're only paying $3 for something that will probably fill you up you can't really get any better than this, although Lee's down the road (a chain), totally different but just as delish, will totally give it a run for its crusty bready money. I loved this place, it has everything: it's fresh, flavorful, locally owned, and reasonably priced. I didn't think you could get all of that in the same place. We just got a bunch of banh mis and some egg rolls. The BBQ pork was the star of the show - flavorful pork with fresh jalapeño, cilantro, and carrots with some kind of light, incredible dressing.
