We really love this place. The owners Roger and Ann have finally retired. I do enjoy here their story and how they started the orchard (ask someone and they will tell you). The apples are crisp and delicious - nothing like the mushy and bland ones at the grocery store. You can even try each variety of Apple on the farm In the store before you buy. We go back and let the kids pick what they want and then go buy another bushel for cooking at home. If you go early in Apple season you can get peaches. They also have strawberry u pick during the spring. No admission fee, no nonsense just great apples. read more

So, I may come back and revisit this review since I didn't go to this ORCHARD during prime apple season and I also didn't go to this orchard for the apples. I went in to grab some fried pies. I guess this review is all about the fried pies then, eh? There are lots of cutesier orchards - the ones that cater to parents who want to take a billion pictures of their kids next to pumpkins or fruit or the decor that implies that the goal is to make it into Southern Living at some point in time. This place isn't that, although very pleasant and clean. I can say that this is one of the friendlier orchards I've been to and that alone will probably get me to return. As for the fried pies. I am on a mission. I am still searching for my favorite fried pie place in the area. You know. The kind that make your toes curl and the car gets really quiet except for the occasional nom, nom, noms? Didn't love theirs. I liked that the filling wasn't overly sweet - and they did have blackberry which you don't see that often. The crust was underwhelming and out of proportion to the amount of filling. read more

The employees here are super unfriendly and not welcoming. I've stopped in multiple times now hoping that would change. Not even a simple "thank you" for supporting their business when checking out. Also, stopped in to get the homemade strawberry "ice cream" and was super disappointed. More ice and not really creamy. Go up the road a bit to Mercier for friendlier people and better products. Wonderful, family fun location not only for great fresh produce, but lunch or dinner and bakery selections that are amazing. Staff is super helpful and friendly, making you feel like family as they help with your choices. I never knew there was so many different types of peaches! The staff is extremely friendly, the store is clean, and everything is fairly priced. There's a small restaurant located in the store and the food smelled really good. I really enjoy this market...they have apples all year around and they offer moscadine icee among other fun snacks and foods. They sell homeade fried pies yummy and fresh local amosh jellies and pickes as well as local hoop cheese...and fresh bil penuts... they have a large array of flavors on the jellies and pretty much on everything else they also sell some local produce while in season and popcorn kernels and sesonings it do it at home...they also have moonshine flavor taffy n jellies as well as freshly tosted penuts from the region...prices are not that bad and service is great. Was in Ellijay this past weekend for some relaxation and apple picking. Stopped at R&A Orchards to take my boys apple picking. Unfortunately, there picking season stops the first week of October but they readily recommended another orchard up the road. I was very impressed that they were so nice about sending us to a competitor. After we went picking we returned to R&A to purchase pumpkins, apple cider, apple cider donuts and a few other apple flavored items. At check-out they remembered us and asked how the other orchard was - because they wanted to make sure they were sending folks to a good place. Great place to get apple related items and, if in season, my guess is a great place to go apple picking. read more

I visited this orchard for the first time recently, and it is now one of my favorites. I went for their u-pick, and really liked the setup. They have a couple of tractors that run almost continuously for a short ride back to the u-pick area. There's a tented area and also plenty of picnic tables in this area. A very friendly lady gives you a good introduction to the various apples that are available for picking. They have several different varieties, all in easy walking distance. All the trees were clearly marked The quality of the apples was excellent. I got some Mutsus that are the biggest I've ever seen. They had some good quality Stayman Winesap and Red Delicious. The store is really nice, with a large selection of apples, a bakery, and plenty of apple related products. It was nice to see a no-sugar added apple pie that I tried. The pie was warm and fresh out of the oven and quite good. I found some half bushels of small apples that they sold for $10. That's a really good price for a load of apples, and the small ones are just as tasty as the larger ones. Those apples, plus the ones I picked myself, should keep me going for a while. The orchard was also not overly crowded like some others I have been to. It was overall a nice, friendly place with good quality apples and apple products in the store. read more

This place was different than expected, but not in a bad way. We thought you could pick your own apples, but it was more if a fruit and veggie stand. They had 6-8 varieties of peaches. We each tried several of them. I decided on the white peach, Georgia bell I believe. By looking at it, it seemed like it was just an unripe peach, but tasted so sweet and delicious!! I tried the peach ice cream. It was pretty good. Much lighter than actual ice cream, refreshing. My husband tried the apple turnover (dunt think that is what they called them but you cannot miss them) and wow. All it needed was to be heated up and topped with ice cream. He also bought a blueberry one but hasn't dug in yet. The ladies in the back were very sweet. The lady that checked us out with the peaches was odd. I felt like she was giving us a weird look. My friends and I went to R&A Orchards to pick Apples, and I love this farm! Besides their delicious apples, they also have a great farmer's market and AMAZING CHOW CHOW. TRUST ME IF YOU COME HERE GET AS MUCH OF THEIR MILD CHOW CHOW AS YOU CAN POSSIBLY TAKE IN YOUR CAR. I don't mean for the caps to yell but its more to show my excitement about their CHOW CHOW. It's just cabbage and peppers but the way that they make it with just the right amount of spice and sweetness. Its great for and on everything. We eat it on top of everything (salad, burger, hot dogs, pizza, lol. I literally mean EVERYTHING!!!) If you are ever in Elijay, you MUST come check out this place! Second trek this year to get apples- Granny Smith Gaylas are in! Beautiful apples- best quality in these parts. Had the fresh cooked, warm fried pies- the apple ones were delicious. We ate them on site in the dining area then check out and left with a bushel of apples. Staff is always friendly and they go all-out to ensure a safe shopping experience. You-pick is available for those wanting to select their own from the orchards- lots of fun for the kiddos. They are generally known for their great choices in apples, yet they also have a nice selection in peaches too. Other smaller ticket items such as beans, sweet potatoes, and onions are found here too. You can purchase local jarred jams, salsa, salad dressings, and ciders. I am not a pie person--at all! I have tried "world famous pies" and people's grandma's "famous pie," but most of the time it is just bleh... Well, not until I tried the fried pies from R&A! I love the variety that I saw; strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, chocolate, pumpkin... the list goes on! I settled on a no sugar added apple and a sweet potato. The crust was surprisingly light and flaky--not heavy, not buttery, not overly sweet. It was perfect! Both fillings showcased the natural ingredients and were not overly sweet and seasoned--it was just right! The next time I'm in town, I will definitely be stopping by and trying more flavors. THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE STORE ONLY! As we are driving through Ellijay, I see this cute little apple store and I have my husband pop a U-turn so that we can check it out. I am not really interested in the apples because we have delicious apples at home, I prefer small apples and I like to hand pick my apples, (which means I don't purchase them in a bucket or container). However, I am interested in an apple dessert so I look around to see what is available. They have a large selection of fried pies, (not an option), baked apple cake and apple bread and fritters. My husband decides to try a fried pie and against my better judgement, I go for the small apple cake. Now, this was against my better judgement because fruit products should be moist and soft to the touch, but this was dense and hard and not wrapped properly. Some breads can have a hard exterior but still have a soft and moist interior, so I decided to give it a try. Also, there was no smell of fresh baked desserts, (although it was early in the morning). Anyway, I was excited to try an apple dessert because although I have never eaten a baked apple treat outside of my own kitchen, I was willing to a take a risk this time. After getting into the car, me husband decides to try his pie right away. The filling is very nice with bits of perfectly seasoned apple. The crust on the other hand was way too heavy and tasted as if it had been fried in lard. It also needed salt added. Later as I proceeded to try the apple cake, it was so DRY that it just crumbled on contact. I pinched it and it was like a mini implosion! I have never heard of a dry fruit based product. That just never happens unless it has been sitting around for a while, is poorly executed or poorly sealed. Check out the photos! Another thing, I really take issue with sticking a "Homemade Apple Cake" label on something that lists more than 30 unrecognizable ingredients. When I bake a cake or special breads, I use less than 10 ingredients and that includes the spices. HMMMM? You may just want to stick with the fresh fruit and produce. The tomatoes, onions, cabbage and potatoes all looked very good and ready for purchase. There were some packaged items, (jams, sauces, popcorn, batter for fried green tomatoes, and a variety of other products for sale. Choose wisely! And remember, If you don't smell it baking, think twice! read more

I love going here with my kids. They are the perfect excuse.... The orchards are picturesque and the apple house is perfect to try all sorts of tasty foods. There is an eating area where you can sit down to eat the fresh apple pies and they also offer a sample table. There is a caramel apple pie they make that I try to smuggle home for the holidays. We just bought a bunch of peaches to try to make jam. Prices were good and checkout was smooth. Also, try the frozen apple cider slushie. It's always a hit. read more

Visited this place based on the reviews and it was just okay. The orchard is very beautiful and the women at the bakery in the back were very sweet. They had apple pies, bread, apples, sweet potatoes, plenty of jam, jelly, honey, and boiled peanuts. The slushy was good but was a little too icy (you needed a spoon to "drink" it. We love coming to this orchard each fall. It's gorgeous, never too crowded and always fun for our family. The tractor ride up to the orchard is free, when you get up to the orchard you can buy bags to pick your own apples but bring cash because the pick your own bags are cash only. This year we paid $8 for 1/2 a peck bags. The store is always filled with apples to buy if you choose not to pick your own. But a pie from the cafe area, I highly recommend the chocolate pecan, the blueberry cream cheese was not very good though. The muscadine slushies are amazing. We always stock up on their jarred jams for Christmas gifts. This orchard doesn't have all the Bella and whistles and pig races like other orchards in the area but we prefer this orchard because of that. We come to just pick apples and enjoy the beauty of the orchards and save the pig races and corn mazes for October pumpkin patch visits. read more
