This place has that hot fire Sichuan food. I can only speak about the traditional/authentic stuff, I never eat egg rolls/wonton soup/basic Americanized food lol- but the fish in hot oil was as good as I've had it anywhere else, fried green beans were a bit soggy but still flavorful, this spicy fried chicken was great, and another fish and tofu dish that I had was great. Rice here is a decent texture, but kind of chunky/in blocks so I don't think it was made that fresh. Service here was fine, nothing exceptional, but they did good work to make sure that our large group of 15 was tended to. They also let us bring a cake for a birthday, which was nice. Ping Pong, where have you gone? When you opened the food was really stellar but over the last 3 visits things have gone downhill. A favorite among many is DanDan noodles. No longer is it a Szechwan red sauce loaded with minced garlic, red chilis and everything else it is known for but comes with a black oddly flavored sauce, looks and tastes nothing like the dish of old. When I questioned the server he said this is the new way it's being made? What? The tofu with minced pork was practically flavorless except for the swimming pool of chili oil that it was drowning in. Also this is another dish that uses the same sauce as Dan Dan noodles. Pork sautéed with scallions and black beans and chicken sautéed with dry hot pepper were disappointing as well. This used to be our favorite Asian restaurant in the area but the chef change has definitely hurt the quality here. Bring back chef Zheng! read more

We have just moved to the area a few months ago and have now eaten 3 times at this restaurant. We have eaten in the restaurant and have had take out. Eating in was not bad the food was pretty good but the 2 times we have had take out we were less than pleased. The egg rolls had nothing but cabbage and no flavor, the sweet and sour chicken was very little chicken and a lot of the breading, the general tso's chicken had no spice and absolutely no flavor. Each meal had very small servings compared to the other restaurants we have tried in the area. For the amount of food we got the price tag seemed very high. They currently have excellent chefs that cook very authentic Szhechuan Chinese food, very spicy but that's the original flavor. This place opened on 2/16 without fanfare, with the old neon sign for Tokyo Fusion yet to be replaced.. I found out about it from a friend of the owners' and went there for dinner that evening. Our table of 3 was the only seats occupied. The food was good. Chef Zhang is back in the area, saving me the trip I was going to take just to sample his food at his restaurant in Boston. I have missed his food since he left the area a few years ago. The next day, On 2/17, I sent an email out to some local Chinese friends/aquaintances telling them "Ping Pong is now open", knowing most of them are Zhang's fans. It turned out some already heard about it through the grapevine but could not find the place because they were looking for a big sign that says Ping Pong. Now they knew (it's sitting at the "elbow" of the lot). In the evening I went there for dinner again. This time our table of 8 was merely one of the many tables occupied. The news traveled fast. With more stomachs to fill, we ordered dishes to fill the tabletop and to stuff ourselves. My oh my, were we happy. Even the Sauteed Baby Shanghai Greens were yummy, better than what any of us could make. That's saying a lot since there were some good cooks and foodies among us. The Cold-Cut Chicken, one of their signature dishes, looked fiery but was tender, full of flavors and not too spicy; the thinly julienned Kelp Si tasted so fresh and subtle, the Pocket Tofu was divine. We tried the dried pork belly he cured, the sausages he made, everyone around the table was nodding his/her approval. When we walked out, customers were still streaming in. The place was by now full of happy Chinese customers. Hands down, this place offers the very BEST Sichuan food one can expect to find. Just so we set the record straight - a rating of 5 stars is saved for places like Per Se, I ate there once and probably won't go back again even though I love both the experience and Thomas Keller. This rating of 4 stars for a restaurant that offers Sichuan is a destination restaurant for my-working-girl-self if reachable by 2-3 hours' driving. The fact that it sits midway from where I work to where I live means I won't mind eating there every night at all. Seriously. Dead serious. This place is the HEAT. As in if you like spicy hot food, and you live around the area, you're set for some straight fire. I love spicy food, my issue is that my nose just likes to run like crazy so by the time I'm done eating I've created a mini mount pocono on the dinner table. My girlfriend can't really handle the heat so this was very beneficial to here. We both started out with dan dan noodles, made sure to take them home with me because they are all that and a bag of chips. Next she chose a vegetable dish, mushrooms and vegetables, she didn't how the mushrooms were squishy so I reminded her they had the same texture as unagi, that made it worse. Mental note, she won't be coming next time. I don't care what she thinks though she can right here own review, I liked it. Then I went all in with my dish, I don't recall what it was called but you will definitely know what I'm talking about once I talk about the ingredients of said dish. Just look for the one with pig blood, pig intestines, and beef stomach. YEA, I went there, and it was the greatest decision of the past two weeks so far. The waiter and the owner did a double take like I had just said the worse curse word in their native tongue. I assured them I was ready for the heat and they said okay with a slight grin. I tore that dish up too, It was funny seeing them all watching me eat it, looking for cracks in my armor. Half way through the meal the waiter came over and said that was the first american to order that dish and that I was handling like a champ. I then proceeded to tell him I was Puerto Rican and we love pig blood, intestines, (morcilla's), and all that good stuff so I had to try how they made it. I have been to this restaurant twice already. The first time I didn't think the food was very good and was way overpriced. I decided to try it again last night. I think it was even worse this time. The eggrolls have a strange flavor, the ribs are soaked with a sickenly sweet sauce and the fried rice was terrible. I think pf changs is so much better. The food at ping pongs is just really poor and flavor is missing. It bothers me too when a restaurant is very expensive with bad food. I definitely would not go back again nor would I recommend this place. I don't eat chinese food a lot, but I know when something seems fresh and appetizing. Do to limited chinese restaurent in chesterbrook area for Chinese, Hong kong in the China takeover, so we decided to give it another chance more than a year ago. Orders hot and sour soup, vegetable delight, and beef in a hot pot. The soup came in less than 5 minutes, it was fast and it was pre-cook sitting in the steam table who know how long. It was bad. For the vegetable delight cooked with can vegetables, the sour taste of the small corn and water chestnut was really bad. Finally the hot pot came in with full steam but the meats was not fully cook to tenderness that was needed. Flavor was flat. The soup was watery and lukewarm, and the chicken had a rubbery, chewy texture (curiously, the chicken portion was absurdly huge). The steady stream of Asian customers was a our first clue that this place was for realz. I went for something creative and new (to me), a spicy duck dish that was fabulous and REALLY spicy -- next time I will ask them to dial it back a bit. My husband, the creature of habit, tested the sweet and sour chicken and proclaimed it best of the main line. The dan dan noodles were very good as was the veggy fried rice. We will be back and I will try to get him out of the S/S chicken mode! The prices were very fair. This place is just what we need - not too fancy and expensive (aka Marg K. or Suzanna Foo) but a step up and much more authentic than a few other places I will not name. Strip mall gem. Authentic Szechuan in an unlikely location (next to Panera, Trader Joe's etc). Was here at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon - not full by any means but a fair number of native-speaking Chinese families. Is there an immigrant Chinese community close by? Go only if you enjoy sweating! Absolutely everything is spicy, even the non menu indicated hot items, such as vegetable tofu soup. Service terrible on Saturday night but good at lunch. We ordered 2 large soups and 2 pork dumplings and after 40 minutes dumplings finally came out and they were cold inside. After 20 more minutes the steamed dumplings arrived but had to wait 15 more minutes for the fried dumplings, both soups way too hot and spicy to taste or enjoy. Got a hankering for general tso's chicken after watching a documentary on it; not disappointed by this place. The chicken was very crispy with a great tasting sauce. The meat was actually whole pieces instead of reconstituted and it actually may have been white meat. The pork fried rice was tasty too and the spring roll had a great crispy texture. The spice levels are present but not overwhelming, which is fine. It was just okay. It was packed for lunch so I was expecting it to be amazing and it was just satisfactory. I agree with another review, a little pricey for what you actually get. Oh and the customer service was horrible. The cashier "reminded me to tip" I had to politely correct her and tell her I left the tip on the table....who does that? My waiter was also rude and hasty.
