I was super excited to find this bakery on Yelp as I grew up on old school Chinese cakes from LA Chinatown / SGV and my family prefers them to Non-Asian cakes (i.e. Costco/supermarket/Porto's, non-asian bakeries). I called in a few days ago to order an 8" strawberry cake for my husband's birthday and requested no almonds on the side since my kids are allergic. I went to pick it up today and found the bakery in an Asian shopping plaza next to the Asian market. They had a few buns in the shelf as you walk in, so I picked up a coconut bun to try (only $1.50! Yay!). The interior is bare bones, with a few dusty fake cakes for display. The bakery shelves are covered up since they don't seem to sell anything besides cakes and a few buns. We ate the cake tonight but I was silently crying tears inside. While the sponge cake itself was nostalgically good, I noticed that there were barely any strawberries in the cake. It's summer and full on strawberry season, so to see that they were so skimpy on the strawberries was a major disappointment. This has got to be the saddest Asian strawberry cake I've ever had. In. My.life. All of our slices of cake had a sliver of strawberry hiding in a massive amount of cream (I guess to make the cake look bigger and taller). I ordered a strawberry cake, not a cream cake with a strawberry garnish. I added an extra star for the cake quality, but am not a fan of the excessive cream-to-cake ratio or the lack of strawberries in the filling. There are better Asian cakes available on the other end of the 10, so I won't be back. Cash only. When I was there, were were no baked goods on display as you would expect other bakeries so that means everything is freshly made when you order it. I called the same day in the morning and was able to pick up in the late afternoon. Cash only. I ordered my daughter's Quinceanera cake here. I ordered it a month in advance, and they didn't have the cake ready because they forgot. So they said they would deliver it to my venue w/o charge, and the cake arrived and was placed in the refrigerator. When we put it together because they don't do it for us. We noticed that the 3-tier cake had each their carton under each layer, and it was bigger than the cake. When we put it together you can see the carton under the cake for each layer. the model was not supposed to show the carton between layers. They said it had to be bigger because it might slide off but when we looked at it, it was already tilting. So, I called them to come back and fix it... they had to cover the carton with frosting which was not the color of the cake, but neon color and they had to put more support, so the cake was standing up straight. We had to decorate it with roses to make it look nice... and once we did it was decent after the carton being sort of hidden. The cake tasted great no complaints there, but I will not ask them to do the 2, 3, or 4 tier cakes again. I will stick to only a single tier cake for birthdays or just because. read more
