I cannot say enough about the service we received here. You just don't find people like this very often nowadays. We first heard of R&S from my mother who while in Rexburg had her AC go out. It was in the upper 90's outside and my mom has health conditions that make her susceptible to heat. She was very panicked about driving home to SLC without AC. She called a bigger chain and they told her they did not have time to fit her in and that their waitlist was several weeks out. They called A&S for my mom. A&S fit her in that day and got her AC working for her drive home. She gave us their name and number and told us that if our daughter (attending BYUi) had trouble with her car to call A&S. Hardly believable, almost one week later my daughter had trouble with her alternator. She was able to coast it into her apartment parking lot and called home in tears. I remembered how A&S had taken care of my mom just a week before. I immediately called them. The service we received was impeccable. They picked up my daughters car that day. Diagnosed the problem and gave us options the next day. The following day we had a call that the work was all done. My daughter had no way to pick up the car, so A&S came and picked her up at her apartment and took her to pick up her car. Way above and beyond what would be expected. You just don't find people with this much integrity, kindness, and willingness to help nowadays. A&S is truly one of a kind. My wife called this shop to ask whether they could provide a rough estimate based on a description of the issue she was experiencing. The employee agreed to listen to the situation, so she explained the problem in detail. After listening, he responded by asking, "What color are my socks?" When she was understandably confused, he followed up by saying that she wouldn't know unless she came in and saw them. While we understand that an exact diagnosis often requires an in-person inspection, the way this was communicated came across as sarcastic and disrespectful rather than helpful. A simple explanation that the vehicle needed to be inspected would have been sufficient. My car wouldn't start for the second time and after getting the battery and alternator checked I decided to take it in somewhere else. I looked up Auto Shops and noticed R & S and have never been there before but showed up and Reed was very nice and immediately willing to help me and check out my car. It turns out the starter was bad and had to be replaced. He had the part ordered and in the next morning and everything fixed and done by that afternoon. I recommend coming to them for any problems! When ever I've had issues with my cars not working I take it in, I can usually get taken care of that day, and then when I get it back I don't have any issues with that problem again! Their website says "At R & S Automotive, we pride ourselves in repairing and maintaining your vehicle right the first time, every time. We work on every car as if it were our own!" My experience says otherwise. I brought my wife's Mazda in because there was a cylinder misfiring. He called me after I brought it in and quoted a $550 bill, which is fine, as long as it gets fixed right. Well, it didn't. Something blew and the car was dumping oil everywhere, and the guys at autozone told me the car could have burnt to the ground. Not to mention, it was giving the same error code as before (misfire on cylinder 2). So I bring it back in and they "fix it" right this time. Car runs fine, but the engine light comes back on, and it's giving the /same/ error code, with a prompt that the injector needs to be changed. The mechanic anticipated and told me that might happen, because the injector does need to be changed, but they wouldn't have the part until next week (now). So I take the car in, anticipating another call with a quote or some sort of communication over the price. I do get a call, but about some covers that he'd like to order and replace. "That will be about $250, on top of the $650 we discussed before" "Uh, I don't remember anyone saying anything about $650. Are you referring to the $550 I initially paid to have the problem fixed?" "No, $650 for the injector and labor" Not to mention he already had the car taken apart by the time he made this call. So I had to make another humiliating call to him a few minutes later and tell him that my newlywed wife and I cannot currently afford $900 in car repairs, and that we would have to wait. "Well then everything I've done has been for nothing!" He also said he had already ordered the covers, and I offered on the phone to pay for them, but he just said he'd put the car back together. So, this morning, I go in to pick up the car, and as I'm walking out with the keys, this is the conversation we had: "I need to understand why you think I work for free." "Oh, I... didn't think that, sir. But no price was communicated to me." "I keep going over our interactions a thousand times in my head, and I'm failing to see how you misunderstood and thought I work for free." "Sir, I didn't-" (As he's storming away) "You know, at least I can go to my bishop and tell him I'm honest in my dealings." (Points at me) "I'm not sure you can." At this point, I'm just in absolute shock. I'm already humiliated at having to tell a mechanic we can't afford what he wants to do, and now he's bringing faith into it? Had he done what he did before and called or communicated a price, I would have turned down further service, without question. I left with a "whatever, man" and I never intend on stepping foot there, again. A tip for the owner, and the guy who this was all happening with: if you work on people's' cars for a living, it pays a little more to be personable and not condescending. Stay away from this place. Autozone recommended them to me, saying "He's a grumpy old man, but he does good work" and at this point, the "grumpy" part is kind of outweighing the "good work" part. read more

We were in a bind and needed a quick service before we heaved all our stuff in a Honda CRV across the country. The owner listened to me patiently about a odd noise I kept hearing. Every other mechanic I told about this noise brushed me off and told me it was just the radio. He didnt, he treated me respectfully and told me he would do his best to figure it out. He changed a belt, checked my fluids, brake pads and replaced a few worn nuts and bolts. Not only was the strange noise taken care of but whatever he fixed improved my overall gas mileage! Oh, and he also worked his tail off to get it all checked over and done within the day so that we could get on the road as scheduled. Have taken several different vehicles here over the years. Reed is real nice and easy to work with. I won't go to any other shop! If you need mechanical work done this is the place. If you need they will explain what's going on with your vehicle. Just recently had the shifting cable switched on my Taurus. They even cleaned out the engine vent for free just because they saw it was looking really sticky inside there. I highly recommend them if you don't know anything about cars, even if you do this place will always treat you right and never over charge you. read more

This man has a terrible temper. He told us over the phone to bring our car in so that he could take a look at it, but once we got there and asked him what was wrong with it he started yelling. When we just asked him to explain what the problem was with the car, he accused us of not trusting him, and kept ranting and yelling. We just took our car away and we'll get it fixed somewhere else. read more

Do not take your car here! The main mechanic (and I think owner) tried to rip me off so bad. He was extremely rude to me as well as very condescending. He checked out my car and wanted to charge me an extreme amount of money to replace a part he said was broken. My father is a mechanic so I knew better and took my car elsewhere for a second opinion. When I told the mechanic that I was going to take my car somewhere else he practically threw my keys at me. It turned out that the part he wanted to replace wasn't even broken and what needed to be fixed was a much smaller and cheaper issue. I couldn't even believe how I was treated and it made me feel sick. I will never recommend this shop to anyone! read more

My son is in college and told me that the car we let him use just died and said he only got a click, click when he tried to start it. I called several places and their quotes seemed too high to replace an alternator which is what I thought it was. So I called Les Schwab to ask if they recommended any particular repair shop. The lady who answered, recommended R&S and said they had always been good to her. I called them and they where very helpful. I told them That I was out of town and that I from what my son had told me that I thought it was the alternator. They gave me a very reasonable quote and said that they would make sure that that was what it was. A day later the car was ready and has been working fine until two days ago the battery light started flashing on and off. I called them and they told me that if it was the alternator they would fix it because it was under warrantee. As it turned out it was only a loose wire. He told me that if I had any more problems to let me know. I told him that my son was in Salt Lake City and he told me, to my surprise, that if he had any problems with it to give R&S a call and since it was under warrantee he could have it authorized to be fixed in SLC. What a deal. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

R & S Automotive is by far the worst place I've been to! From the owner yelling and arguing with me to R & S doing damage to my car from lifting it, and not fixing it. At the Beginning of the Year I took my car to R & S Automotive because my car was leaking anti-freeze. R & S came back to me saying I had a huge hole in my radiator and needed a new one. They said that my car would be ready in a week. A week later I called them back to ask if my car was ready. The owner told me that they found another problem; that along with the radiator I'd need a new head gasket. I said okay, but he never explained to me what happened to the head gasket. I called back and try to ask what caused the head gasket to be replaced and the owner went on to yell at me stating that it was caused by something that I did. Three weeks later from not hearing from them, I called again to see if my car was ready. The owner again yelled at me stating that I needed to give him more time to fix my car. I told him that I'd been going without a car for three weeks and needed a car to get to work. The owner said he'd let me use one of his cars. He gave me a really crappy car that I had to take back to them to be fixed for the window being stuck down. Once again the owner yelled at me saying that I broke his car. I told him that I just rolled the window down and it wouldn't go back up again. It took this guy two in a half months to finally fix my car. We paid him and swore we would never go back. Unfortunately, 6 months later my radiator started leaking again. The one good thing I have to say is they honored the 12 month warranty on the radiator. We took it in and they replaced it and 3 days later they called and said my car was ready. As soon as we got our car back it sounded way different, it sounded like it didn't have a muffler on it. My husband and I were so sick of dealing with them that we decided to take the car to another establishment to get it checked out. Turned out that whoever worked on my car at R & S lifted my car under the exhaust system and bent a bar against the exhaust system. If I continued driving on it could have damaged the exhaust. So R & S damaged my vehicle and they knew about it; they claim to test drive the vehicle when they fix them. They would have heard that my car sounded completely different. My husband and I were so sick of R & S Automotive that we'd rather pay another mechanic to fix it then go back to them and have them break something else! So I recommend never going to R & S they have horrible customer service and don't take responsibility for mistakes they've made. So dishonest and such a headache to deal with. read more
