We selected R B Queern to install a new mini-split system in our house. I interviewed 5 different companies in total. RB Queern's proposal was clear and they spent time explaining why they chose the equipment outlined in their proposal. It was the most comprehensive of the 5 that I received. They had the best value in terms of total cost. They actually had the lowest bid. They reccomended an electrician for that portion of the work and they were prompt to respond and gave me a very solid bid compared to others. The installation took 3 days and I have to say that their technicians did nothing but a first class job. They were prompt, answered questions, took care of our house and cleaned up every day. I called R.B.Queern to come out to my house to tune-up my central AC system. My experience with them was both positive and negative. The PROS: The technicians were professional and friendly. During the 2 hours they worked, they were efficient and did not waste time. Because they charge by the hour ($165 per hour), this is important. The techs found an error in how the AC unit was installed, and they were able to fix it that day. Their fix prevented a big problem of water leaking into my ceiling. Also, when I reviewed the work order, I do not think I was over-charged for the parts they needed to fix my unit; the prices I was charged for the PVC parts seemed reasonable. The CONS: I was never told when I booked the appointment (as a new client) that they charge the travel time from when the tech leaves the previous job and drives to my house. As a result, I was charged $82.50 (30 min) for the tech to drive to my house from the previous job. This is an excessive charge. I understand that gasoline costs money, but to charge $165 per hour for travel time is too much. If they charged something like $30 per hour for travel time, that would be reasonable, and I would be leaving a 5 star review. read more

Called to get a ballpark (key word) figure on an installation (if this was the best choice) a Heat Pump and or some options as to what we could do for a home I may purchase - so I can use in my figures when renegotiate a price; home has electric heat. I was told I had to close on the home first, because they need to come out and see what's out there? I would think you could BALLPARK a figure off of: 4200 Sqft. Central AC already in the home Location of the electrical panel How many AMPS in the home I'm glad my doctor don't have to cut me open every time I go in for a cold or not feeling good. read more

I was in a real crunch to get a combination heat and hot water unit going for my tenants. My usual plumber was unreliable and did not know enough about the heating system. I called one of my reliable plumber in Bristol for a referral in Newport area. I called RB Queern based on his recommendation. They showed up the same afternoon and solved the issue that was left undone for over 6 months. Wow. Why didn't I call them in the first place is what I am wondering. On the Sunday morning after a burst pipe in our home in Newport, RB Queern was able to come Sunday morning to get us up and running. A return visit on Tuesday and our broken pipe was repaired. I just received the bills and all o their fine work was reasonably priced. I was impressed with this company about 5 years ago when we converted to gas. They have been servicing our air conditioning system for years at our business. This was the worst experience we have ever had with them. They put freon in our system which they stated has a big leak and charged us $500 for the job which only lasted a few hours. I was out of town and they did this job without consulting me first with them knowing about the leak. I also have always had net 30 payment with this company but today I received a call from them asking for immediate payment, which I explained we don't usually do. Then I received a call from Richard Queern and he was very short with me, he asked me "if I had a problem with the bill". His tone when speaking with me was sarcastic and rude. I explained the situation that they had charged me for work that they knew was not going to fix the problem and it was broken again within hours. He asked what I thought was fair for the job, so I asked him what he thought was fair and he said $500. After this he abruptly hung up on me which I felt was unprofessional. We need a new system but we will spend our money with a company that cares about their customers. read more

Then when they got here, they managed to strip a part and then charge me $700 to fix it. I want to give these guys more as they did a sound job, but I don't feel great about the experience. We received a furnace cleaning for what was quoted at $120. The woman claimed they rarely go into overtime. Well, the young guy who did ours DID. I went down to check in on progress sporadically. Towards the end he was simply sweeping around the furnace. I asked if he was just about done. he said yup, but would wait for me to leave the basement before he would continue...so I left (my fault, i know). I was charged $45 extra for 1/2 hour of extra "time". He said there was a lot of "dust" to sweep out.($165 total) The good part about this is that a rotten water pipe to reserve tank sprang a leak as he was about to leave, still in his van. I ran out and got him and he was able to replace it on the spot, emergency job. The bad part, is that he quoted me 120 for a new water reserve tank, then when billing came he said "oh I was wrong" and charged me $140, plus all the labor and add ons. ($310 later...) I don't know. I liked the lady who i spoke with on the phone. The kid seems to know what he was doing. But I felt like they bait and switched me with the over all charges. And THAT will keep me from using them again. When you have a spurting leak, you kind of don't have a choice. :/ Any recommendation for a trustworthy/affordable plumber on the Island, gladly accepted. read more

Had service call technician didn't clean heater and stated he did. Took a total of 15 minutes he fudged the co2 numbers and combustion numbers also. I know this because I phone to complain about not cleaning it probably they sent another technician and I saw him pull it apart and clean. His findings on Co2 and Combustion numbers were different. The receipt that I received had the false numbers from the first technician which are wrong. Would think twice before calling this company again if I would've checked after the technician left I would have never known that I just paid 145 dollars for 15 minutes of him fudging paperwork. read more

I've had 2 experiences with this company, and both times qualified as emergencies. The first was several years ago, in my rental, when a part in my Hot Water Heater failed, it was starting to snow, and I couldn't get anyone else out, they came and fixed the problem. Then there was tonight. While providing care for someone on vacation, their furnace stopped working. We are about to get a nasty storm, the house temperature was down to 32 degrees. After lots of back and forth the homeowner call RBQ, and they were at the house within 20 minutes. Immediately got to work, diagnosed the problem , replaced the part, and fixed it. Yay Heat! Yay No Frozen Pipes!! Was it expensive? My personal experience was reasonable, and I don't know about tonight, as I didn't handle the bill. Either way, quick and efficient service, at night, 3 hours before it's about to snow... It's worth it. P.S. A little known fact people don't seem to understand... If you are calling for emergency service, or after hours, you have to pay first... which seems obvious, but apparently it isn't. read more

Several weeks ago I lost heat. I couldn't figure out the reason. I called Queern and an employee was at my home within 45 minutes. Within 15 minutes, he figured the reason which was a frozen heating pipe. This has never happened to me in all of the 30 plus years that I have lived here! Luckily it never burst. i had a New oil burner installed by RB Queern. They got paid and completed the installation. But they never cleared the permit that they took out. This was done over a year ago in March of 2020. When i called them to clear the permit they told me it was my responsabilty! I had to call the inspector and answer his questions on how it was installed?? Have been using RB Queern for several years now for my rental property. They are always timely and reasonable. Had a recent issue where heat wasn't working after they came out for annual maintenance and they came out within the hour and waived the fee. Overall very honest company and easy to deal with. I had the same rude, pushy, pompous experience that Jonathan, Larry and others had with Ron Bowler a couple years ago with the same threatening language so I quit R. B Queern. My wife mistakenly called them this past weekend and we had an equally Rude, deceptive, overcharge situation as many others have experienced but my experience was with the owner Richard Queern which explains why Ron Bowler has a job still. I had the audacity to ask him to explain some of the upcharges added to my bill. He freaked out on the phone after he could not explain them and now I have been banned once again from RB. So funny. My charges: $237 for less than 15 minutes at my house to confirm with me that yes you have a bad valve. No work done. $190 of that charge was because I was billed $190 for an hour of driving??? Wow. The second day the tech Rodrigues (who was excellent) passed me an incorrect bill for $650. $200 over my estimate which is when I talked to RIchard. He openned the conversation with "what is your problem now". He couldnt even be bothered to look at the estimate he sent me before accusing me on the phone then he started making up fake numbers to extort as much money out me that he could. After 13 moves across this great nation in the militarty this is the worst experience with an HVAC company I have had. I cant believe with so many terrible reviews that these guys are still in business. read more

This company charged me over $650 to NOT Fix my AC. In addition a sales person called me on a thursday to book an appointment for noon the following Monday. he confirmed on text and sent me his contact information. Ron Bowling. I called him after he didn't arrive .. he never called me back and the office said he has no record of this meeting and he can't get to me for over a month. I need new units and this stupid company lost my business. Horrible service and cost me an arm and a leg. read more

The technician was thorough and patiently explained the technical issues. RB Queern had been servicing my furnace since 2008 between 2 places I lived in Newport. Because I thought they had done a good job of it, I reached out and invited them to quote on a new boiler. They came in high compared to other bids. When I didn't go with them, they responded back that "my account is closed" and I really didn't know exactly what that meant until I called for regular service, they accepted the appointment, and then this Ron Bowler emailed that they would not service my boiler as, again, my account is closed. When I tried to reason with him both by email and phone, he hung up on me like a little child because he had no reasonable answer for his infantile behavior. I haven't had the furnace replaced yet, but guess who is not getting the business? Further, my emails to the owner have gone unanswered. Guess they don't care about their good customers, so don't think they'll care about you. read more

Normally very reliable for servicing my HVAC systems and when my hot water tank blew overnight, they sent someone out quickly who told me they would be able to replace the unit the next day (as it was a Sunday that it blew). Monday came, I took the day off from work to get it done and I got a call saying they couldn't do it until Thursday... Great, I took the day off to find out I wouldn't have hot water for 4 days... Went with someone else who did it the same day. Very disappointed that Queern though it would be fine to leave a customer stranded after offering to do the work the next day. I tend to fix most home issues except HVAC systems. Unfortunately our furnace went on the fritz at the worst time as Winter Storm Grayson was hammering our area. Jason came out with no questions asked and was able to identify our problem in less than 10 mins and had the replacement control assembly already in hand. Extremely knowledgeable and even provided some pointers how to effeciently heat our house during the winter. Service was outstanding and prompt.
