    Wine and snacks

What a wonderful addition to the borough! We've been several times now and have always had a great experience. The wines are from their estate in California and truly superior. This is not your typical Pennsylvania wine tasting experience. I love the you can purchase a flight, a glass, a carafe or a bottle. It allows you to try more of the wines. The snacks are top notch. Gourmet Pennsylvanian and California cheeses. Charcuterie boards feature some local products from Andiario. This is such a great place to start a night out in Downingtown. The sidewalk facing bar seating is a great place to sit, especially in good weather when the windows are all open. The service is as good as the wine and food. The owners are very friendly and informative. If you haven't yet, go check out this local gem.

Had a delightful time doing some wine tastings with my girlfriends. All the wines are high-quality, hand-picked wines from California and even though I'm not a wine connossieur (how do you spell that word?) by any means, even I could tell that the wines were good quality. We also ordered a platter with a variety of meats and cheese, some bread, and a cheesy dip that came with jam, apples, and sliced ham(?). It was a bit pricey for the quantity that we got, but I'm sure it was all high-quality ingredients used. Had a really fun time, our waitress was attentive and helpful, and I look forward to coming back.

Stopped in here for a date and loved the California imported offerings and the lively, wine bar feel. Enjoyed some wine flights and light pickings.

Another flawless, delicious meal at R Five. Everything we ordered was delicious. The wines were fabulous and our server was the best.

Our server was great and attentive, the food was really good! We ordered the Caesar salad, calamari, chicken with crab, veal saltimbocca, pasta with shrimp and crab, pasta with meatballs (the person who ordered didn't care for the meatballs but is very particular), baked salmon, and chicken parm dinner. Only issue I would address is that some of the parties food came out at least 5 minutes before the others (about 1/2 the party) which made it awkward. Otherwise, a great experience and all want to return!

I ordered the wild mushroom papperdelle. There was no evidence of wild mushroom in this dish. The papperdelle ate plain. The mushroom "ragu" was sliced button mushrooms that were barely sautéed in a watery/ milky broth (not creamy) as if they did not cook the water out of the mushrooms. The Parmesan was added on top at the table to both dishes. Was there a hint of truffle? Maybe in some truffle oil-maybe. The dish was grossly underseasoned. Not a dish I would reorder. I also ordered the octopus appetizer salad. The octopus was seasoned with harissa (not quite Italian but ok). Unfortunately it was slightly overcooked leaving it chewy. The greens were well-dressed arugula. Again not a dish I would reorder. Our waiter was doing double duty in the kitchen while the bus girl was bussing the table so fast she took our flatware before we could pack up our leftovers while tossing the dessert menus on the table. Just did not get a welcoming vibe and would not return.

We were a party of 8 and they were so nice to setup a table where we could all sit together even though it looked like they were full. None of our friends have ever been here so I let them decide what they wanted to order. We had many different tastes of wines to start from a Chardonnay, a pinot Grigio to a Shira. Everyone could not say enough of how good the wines tasted. The tables ordered charcuterie boards, a hot honey, pepperoni flatbread, margarita flatbread, pistachio pesto flatbread, two different types of french fries and a meatball martini. The group raved about the flavors of the different flatbreads. The pistachio flatbread was a great hit. No one would ever think of a flatbread with pistachios. Josh and Nick the bartender took care of us really great. We never had a wait for anything..

Prices are fair, especially given the location and overall quality. The wine list offers a solid selection of both red and white wines, available by the glass or bottle, and they also serve wine flights--three 2.5 oz pours, if I remember correctly. The cons: The menu isn't posted online (see my photos for sample menus), so you'll need to be comfortable going in without previewing your options. It's also not marked for gluten-free items, so plan on asking your server for guidance. Most of the wines feature grapes sourced from California, with a few selections from South Africa and at least one Malbec from Chile. Aside from some Oakville Cab Sauvs, I'm not a big fan of California wines--so if you are, you'll likely feel right at home here.
