Stopped in on a whim to pregame with friends for a birthday celebration. We had dinner reservations elsewhere, but we were walking around West Chester and decided to enjoy some cocktails, a snack and air conditioning. The drinks were beautifully prepared and they included an espresso martini, a dirty martini and a refreshing spritzer. My friend that had the dirty martini noted that the olives were just the right size..... little bit smaller than other blue cheese stuffed olives she's had in the past. I decided that we needed to try the bacon wrapped dates .... those were absolutely delicious. The menu was extensive and it's a place that I would definitely love to come back and try for dinner next time I'm in town visiting friends. Our server was exceptional. I went here last evening for the restaurant week. You get an appetizer, entrée, and dessert for $45. There were a few dishes that were an up charge of 10 bucks but everything was completely delicious and worth it. This bar is way bigger than you think with so many different rooms throughout. The staff was incredibly friendly and bubbly. A lot of the sauce is made in house and was so delicious. It was a great experience and every dish was worth the order. Love this place! Our server, Rayna, was the best! She really went above and beyond. We didn't order dessert but she knew it was my friend's birthday and lit a candle for her to blow out. So sweet! Also, the hostess was so sweet and the bartender makes great drinks! Apps- roasted long hots were sooooo tasty and the margarita pizza, I couldn't stop eating. Entrees- cutlet lemon and crab. Delish and a crispy cutlet. I want to get chicken parm next time. My friend got the chicken and filet tips which she loved. Another happy hour trip here and i have to say the HR apps and cocktails are well above average. I suspect we're not the only ones that feel this was as the bar was packed at 4pm on a Friday and thinned out only as it came to a close around 6pm. It was pretty good! I liked the bar experience. We went here in the evening and the drinks were really great. Kyle was a really good bartender and took care of us. We came back the next morning for brunch with my family because we had such a good experience at the bar. It was pretty good overall. We wished they had more breakfast options as the brunch menu was limited & a ton of lunch/dinner food like heavy pastas, chicken parm, etc. My mom's eggs benedict was cold so I felt bad about that. My food was also cold. I had steak & eggs and aside from the temp, the food was good. My dad loved his french toast, my fiancé really enjoyed his burger (he added an egg on it to make it a brunch burger) and my sister and her husband enjoyed their pasta & chicken parm. Always a great time here at the bar, great happy hour specials, food and drink. The bartenders are nice and the bar is always quite lively. I also enjoy the parties the bar throws. First I want to say that I'm don't give out stars easily. I am hard to impress. We ate at Avalon for dinner. The service was good, the food was great, the atmosphere was ok. Scratches on chairs and old thermostats on the wall kind of stuff. They will bring you butter in a plastic cup instead of a real dish, things like that is why I could not give them 5 stars. Portions are fair, food quality is very good. I can't complain about the food, very good. We had the spicy shrimp and it was delicious. Only 4 shrimp though. We also had the sausage and ricotta dish. Very good. Not like typical restaurant sauce, it was definitely made homemade. I would definitely recommend and go back, but if you're looking for a more upscale bougie type of place it's not. The food is subpar. Not worth the prices and has fallen down significantly. They used to have such great options, but recently nothings been impressive. The ambiance is nice, however I've heard and seen the owner screaming at his workers. I don't support companies who disrespect and verbally abuse their workers and customers. The staff was so friendly and attentive, the space was so much larger than I originally thought it was so there are plenty of tables. A friend and I went for their Sunday Brunch and we each ordered a Mimosa Board! The absolute cutest idea for brunch and I've never seen it anywhere else. It would be great to share if you are planning to get other food or perfect to enjoy yourself if you are having that as your meal (which you totally can). It is such a good deal, for less than $30 you get two mimosas and a huge board of delicious food (French toast, beignets, cheese, parfaits, fruit- it also came with some salami/meat, which I do not eat so I gave that to my friend). Took my best friend here for her birthday! We both got a drink off the cocktail menu and started with the fried cauliflower! The cauliflower was amazing and so are the drinks. We were obsessed with the whiskey, sour with a red wine floater on top for my meal, I had the chicken Melanese that had a beautiful piece of Barata on top and a lemon aïoli sauce on the bottom. I have never felt more humiliated or disrespected in a public setting. What started as a peaceful outdoor happy hour with friends quickly turned into a disturbing experience that I can only describe as discriminatory and profit-driven. A manager came over to our table--unprovoked--and told us we had to leave because we had been there for an hour and a half. There was no signage or mention anywhere of a time limit, and we were still ordering drinks and waiting on another guest in our party. Then the owner stepped in and escalated the situation further, speaking to us rudely and demanding we leave unless we agreed to move inside. Strangely enough, no other table was asked to leave. But here's the part that can't be ignored: our group was the only one that was racially diverse, with several African American guests at our table. It felt targeted--and intentional. To make matters worse, they had removed a chair at our table before our final guest arrived, as if trying to prevent him from even joining us. It's hard not to see this for what it was: a calculated decision based on both race and revenue. It's clear that the manager and owner were prioritizing profit and appearances over fairness and decency. I can't help but believe that money and prejudice were both factors in how we were treated. I will never support a business that tolerates or enacts racist behavior, whether overt or subtle. If you value equity and dignity, I urge you to take your time and money elsewhere. read more

We came here for a date night. To be honest, we've been following this place on Instagram for a while, and we came here because their Instagram (particularly the owner) is pretty entertaining. We arrived at about 8pm on a Saturday, and didn't make reservations. This place was packed, but we were able to be seated at a high top in the bar area. The restaurant itself is bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside. And the atmosphere of this restaurant is awesome - gives me European vibes. We started with a fingerling potatoes/pork belly appetizer (I forget the specific name of the item on the menu). The menu said that if you were going to try an appetizer, this is the one to try. They are correct, and I second this. It combines ingredients that (most) everyone loves - fingerling potatoes, pork belly, melted cheese, avocado, and sour cream. The Lil Miss JBL drink was delicious and refreshing. The Avalon Margarita was good too. They have a good selection of beers and wines too, with an emphasis on the latter. The menu has something for everyone, but given my wife and I are suckers for risotto, we tried the two dishes that had a risotto base. We really liked our dishes. The seafood parts of the dishes were cooked perfectly. As for the risotto, it had a little bit more of an oily texture than we typically like, but it was still good! The waitstaff was great and attentive throughout the entire dinner. We will definitely be coming back here. read more
