Not on the main stop but right on the 510th Ave headed South out of Ames you will go right by it if you are not paying attention. Parking is plentiful in the gravel parking lot. We made our way inside and its set up as you would expect a pub. Lots of people inside. Group off to the side and most the tables were full. We snagged a seat and a waitress came over pretty quickly. She got our drinks and we spaced out with whatever was on tv. Hubby has been here before but this was my first time. The menu was limited. He said they used to have burgers, but from a photo on their website it looks like the menu was updated in 2022 and no burgers anymore. Fried food and Pizza are your options. Yes there are a few other things, but it appears simplified and makes for quicker turn around. We were not really up for pizza but I wanted to try the fried tenderloin sandwich. We decided to split it and get a side of cheesballs. The sandwich came out hot and with a side of crinkle cut fries. It was really good. It wasn't too thin and the batter was really good. The individual that was with us got a salad. The salad was huge! it was so big she had to take most of it with her. I would probably go back for another Tenderloin. Had the Italian chicken sandwich , it there was absolutely no flavor . No mozzarella, and it looked like they just plopped a big spoon full of marinara sauce on the bottom bun. All that sauce made the bun super soggy, couldn't even pick it up to eat it. The marinara sauce tasted like tomato paste mixed with stewed tomatoes. read more

Off the beaten path, we made a pit stop on our way from Ankeny to Jefferson and sat at the bar for one drink. Bartender was very helpful, and gave my Husband a Jell-O shot for his birthday. Love this pizza!! Thick or thin crust, they do it right! We've never been disappointed.

We were here in Kelley at R Place Pub & Pizza for an event with a larger group this afternoon. There were probably close to 30 of us and they knew we were coming so prepared for the hungry hurd. Our waitress was very polite and did a nice job taking care of all of us. Surprised they didn't have at least one other staff member out helping with things. I was here when this was called "Crossroads" before and they're redone the inside completely. It looks really nice now! They have a ton more seating than the previous tennants. It has everything a smalltown bar/restaurant should - cool things on the wall, friendly staff, a jukebox and plenty of things to drink. The menu is small but the food is good. I really enjoyed their pizza. That's definitely their big thing there. I had the Tesla with Chipotle Ranch. This pizza has grilled chicken, ranch, bacon, white sauce and either chipotle ranch or garlic flavoring on it. It's a tad on the pricy side at $15.99 for a 10" pie, but totally worth it because it's really good. You can get a larger pizza for just four bucks more that feeds 3-4 easily. They also have some nice appetizers (fried corn nuggets, chicken strips, etc.) and do a tenderloin, which I will try next time I'm here. The beer menu is pretty big, but the beer on tap is limited. They have about ten beers on tap, most of them being cheap domestics. They did have Exile Ruthie, Boone Valley Roxie and Des Moines IPA on tap but the rest was other domestics. They do have quite a few bottled beers too and a full bar. Overall, I have a positive view of this place. I won't give it five stars for only one reason - the kitchen was a tad slow bringing certain people's orders and they even lost one of the orders in the process. Otherwise, I have only good to say about R Place. I recommend giving it a try! read more

Went on a recent bike night with 8 others. Drinks were fine and reasonably priced. We sat inside to eat. I ordered boneless wings and do not recommend them. They were soupy and lacked enough breading. Our food did not come out together. One couple had to wait over 90 minutes for their pizza and was only partially cooked. The bartender and waitress were very apologetic but the owner (who was working the pizza oven) was despicable. He got angry that they griped about the pizza and told them to choke on it. Other words were spoken and then he tried to fight one of our group. His actions will prevent me from coming back to what I felt at first impression, was a decent place with a good atmosphere. I used to love coming here regardless of the bad things I've heard about the owner. I finally got to experience Troy last Saturday and will never be back. He is rude, a drunk, and completely disrespectful for no reason. I've been in the service industry for 10 years so I always give grace. But I'm not giving you my money for you to be a jerk to me for no reason. He can never hold a staff, I know multiple hard workers who have quit there because he is inappropriate, intoxicated, and takes their tips while he's getting drunk on the job and DISRESPECTING CUSTOMERS. It's a shame because this bar has potential, he's just doing it a disservice. Food is good, has gone down hill recently though (bc he can't keep a staff). Drinks are fairly priced. Fun events. Waiters and waitresses are always good. RUN if he is your bartender. read more

This place has a great atmosphere. I really like the feel of this bar. We have been there twice now and have had great service both times. We ordered pizza because we were told it was their specialty. The first time we got the Goodyear which has sausage, pepperoni, garlic and bacon. It was excellent! The crust thin and crisp and sauce had a light tomato flavor that didn't overwhelm the taste of the toppings. The next time we decided to get Canadian bacon and mushroom. We were not as impressed the second time because the sauce was a little heavy but still a good pizza. If you haven't tried R place you should give it a shot. read more

Consistent staff turnover due to poor management. Seems like there's a new bartender every time I go in, so drinks will either be incorrect or inconsistent. Pizza is mediocre, but pulls in business due to being the only place in the area outside of Casey's, even with slower than normal wait times. Cheese curds tonight we're discusting. A group of us rode about an hour to attend bike night last night. We grabbed a drink and headed to the patio to listen to the band. After about 20 min we decided to go inside to eat. There was 9 of us at our table. Service was a little slow but forgivable since they were pretty busy. Six of us ordered 3 pizzas and the other three ordered other items off the menu. After about an hour to hour and half all the food arrived except one pizza. A few min later I walked to the bar and told our waitress we were still missing one pizza, she said it would be right out. Another 20 minutes go by and pretty much everyone is done eating and we inquire again as to where our pizza is and we're told it would be right out. This goes on several more times! Finally 2 1/2 hours after ordering a guy brings our pizza and kinda throws it on our table and walked off. It is 1/2 cooked and looks horrible but we're just starving so we dig in. On his way back by he says " I hope you burn your mouth on that pizza". Then proceeded to loudly yell at us for being upset by the 2 1/2 hour wait and that he gave us a large for free and we only ordered a small. (We're on motorcycles and can't take it with us) After a few min and a few words being exchanged the waitress comes over informs us he's the owner and tells him to calm down and walk away! She then asked us if he threw anything at us or hit us? WHAT??? Is this a common thing? He did not so I guess there's a bonus! Had this been an employee we might have returned with the hopes that he no longer worked there but this was the OWNER!! We will not return! read more

Have meant to go to R Place during previous visits to the area, finally got there. As previous reviewer said, it looks newly renovated. Our waitress was great, on her recommendation we shared a large salad and thin pizza. Both delicious! We'll be back and will bring family with us next time. read more

Fantastic place for a fun week/weekend night! Typically there's trivia Thursday or live music Saturday night. If you want a more quiet experience, avoid those times. Prices on drinks are competitive, but the staff is very quick. Smaller menu serves your typical bar food; pizza is the main attraction. Highly recommend the chipotle chicken! Definitely would consider making this a weekly spot. read more
